Drs. Riley and Polizzi and Nurse Ken have all treated me with respect, and listened to and addressed my concerns. I called two times to have my prescription send to my pharmacy, the third time I called CVS and they said my prescription was ready to pick up. While I have always been very happy with Gary V. I have decided to move on and find another provider. The reason is the very poor staff in the office. They are unhelpful and not very nice to patients. I recently scheduled an appointment. I arrived on time and front office could not find my name, insurance information or the appointment. I had taken time off work and was not looking to have to reschedule. Twenty minutes later, back at work the office called and had in fact found my appointment and insurance information. The woman asked if I was downstairs and could come back up.??? I was back at work. She did not give me any sense that she knew what she was doing. She also had a major attitude until she realized she was at fault. Just not worth the annoyance and waste of my work time. read more

I will just say to look out for added charges. They are not forthcoming at this office. I was referred by my PCP to have a shave biopsy. I called to make an appt, got rushed off the phone, so I assumed that authorization from my insurance was taken care of. And it should have been. That's what you do at a doctors office. I'm in healthcare so I think I am pretty fair. I know both sides. That being said, I was not happy to take off work to get to an appt, pay my copay, only to be sent home to say I needed to come back for the shave biopsy that I originally called to schedule because authorization was not put in. They dropped the ball and didn't take responsibility for it. I am disappointed in the way the office manger handled it as well. She basically said she was sorry but I would have to come back, take off work again, and pay another copay. Make sure you know what you are getting while scheduling. read more

Called the office to make an appointment today and after having to tell the girl that answered the phone my name 4 maybe 5 times and also having to spell it each time I was pretty disgusted. I have been a patient in that office since 1987 and it is now 2017....Do they even care who the patients are? I did have a good experience with Dr. Gladsjo last year and did go ahead and make my appointment but honestly, train the front desk people. Last year the staff at the front desk had a problem with my billing and this year the girl said she couldn't even find me in the system. My husband had an appointment a couple weeks ago and said the front desk girl was busy chomping away on cashews. Really! Eating at the front desk should not be allowed. I placed a three star only because there was not a 2 1/2 star category. You may find it hard to believe I gave this office such a lukewarm review but made an appointment. Since Dr. Satur left the business, it is just not the same. Because I did like Dr. Gladsjo, even though I did not care for the office staff, I want to give this office another chance. read more

Gary Vanetsky is a quack who will not give you more than two minutes of his precious time - he is not even a doctor, so I am not sure why they sent him, when we obviously needed a real doctor who appreciates patients more and is more educated about skin. I guess he has a thing for eczema because he will diagnose you with it in a heartbeat. He was wrong and thankfully we knew we had to find another doctor and we did - dr. Piggott in Carmel Valley Scripps took care of us and we told the omnipotent Gary Vanetsky to shove the follow up appointment wherever he'd like. I've been living in N County SD for almost 4 yrs and put off finding a great dermatologist who wasn't dismissive towards those who have 'invisible' chronic conditions. I never thought my dermatologist in LA could be 'replaced' until I had an emergency with my skin last week and needed to find a smart, gentle, compassionate , private practice derm. I found just that in Dr Riley. I appreciated how efficient the whole office was run and how kind the front desk, nurse and Dr Riley were. I have never had inflammatory cystic acne but I think because my thyroid is off and I'm in a flare of my conditions, it set off painful cysts and stress about it. Dr Riley made me feel comfortable, her asst took what I'm assuming as pre treatment pics with iPad, the doctor looked over my skin and asked for a general overview of my health. She added a prescription lotion and retinol and wrote up a game plan if things don't get better by the time of my follow up. I appreciate they didn't try to sell me a bunch of products but gave sample to try and I appreciated that they did not make me feel uncomfortable given the way my face looks. She mentioned next step was doing labs and today I called to find out which labs she would do and a few hours later I got a call from staff with her recommendations so I could have my primary draw the labs. I am so grateful they got me in last min and overall a great experience. Thank you and look forward to my follow up and continued healing. read more

If you appreciate factory processing and not being treated like a person, then this place is for you. Pretty much all of health care is a dismal experience these days, but this group is particularly bad. I needed a new dermo after my prior provider retired from medical treatments to focus on cosmetic $$$$ treatments. My dermatologic needs are simple, being for routine annual check ups. I got the name of this group and made an appointment with a two-month wait - I will not return. Unprofessional reception crew dressed in sweatshirts and sweatpants: no one greets you, smiles, or looks you in the eye - very unorganized and while I was there apparently the corporate office of this group was conducting a training session for software smack dab in the middle of office hours, so the front desk team had the training session on speaker and were more focused on that instead of patients. Then came the appointment, which was rushed (seemingly patients are allocated 6.25 minutes for an appointment) and the PA was talking to an intern with an ipad instead of to me and ordered a facial cream prescription without any info to me as to how/what/pros/cons/cost and/or alternatives - got to the pharmacy and it turns out the cream is not covered by insurance and costs $365 for a two-week supply that would need to be repeated (I opted to pass on the cream since it was cosmetic not medical in need). Definitely looking for a new dermo. read more

Had a lesion on my scalp I wanted looked at. I've gone to the San Clemente office before but found myself in Encinitas this week. I called and got in the ​same day. They cut it off and sent for biopsy. My appointment was at 2:15 and I was out of there by 2:35. I also have been going to North Coast Derma for years and have always found Dr. Gladsjo to be very professional as well as friendly. Unlike many dermatologists I went to before her, she is not trying to push a cosmetic procedure on you. I have never felt uncomfortable with her. My husband had years of skin rash and had been to several GPs as well as dermatologists and all they did was throw creams and pills at him. I finally convinced him to see Dr. Gladsjo and she took her time with him and did lab tests before prescribing anything. His skin was improved within DAYS. While my practitioner with this group was great and I was pleased with his professionalism and kindness, I probably will not continue coming here for addition dermatological treatment bc the staff of nurses and those at the front desk are pretty much a nightmare (not that personable, quite huffy and overworked, as well). Although Drs. are never exactly on time, this place certainly takes that assumption up several notches--- just assume you'll be seen at least 30 mins after your scheduled appointment and you'll have no schedule conflicts. If they re-evaluated their mechanics here, they might get a better review, but this will be my last visit to this practice. read more

Dr. Gladsjoe and her staff are phenomenal. I was referred to her when my ophthalmologist found basal cell skin cancer in my lower eyelid. Dr. Gladsjoe performed Mohs surgery the following week. It took two rounds, but she got all the cancer and removed a minimal amount of tissue. I have since seen her for a full-body check and will continue to do so annually. My only complaint was that while I waited between rounds of Mohs, the waiting room was over crowded and I had to go outside. It would not have been a big deal if the cancer was not on my face. When I expressed my discomfort, the nurse allowed me to stay in the procedure room while the second round was being evaluated, which was a tremendous relief. read more

I was going to wait to post a review just to see the results of my prescriptions and recommendations for my adult acne - but I couldn't. I had a terrific experience at North Coast Derm. I showed up a few minutes late and it was no big deal - the gals in the front were so sweet. The nurse was just adorable - I forget her name but she was understanding and talked to me thoroughly about my skin issues. She was so nice and kind and I didn't feel weird at all. Next and last stop, Gary, the PA, helped me out. He was fantastic. So understanding, empathetic and his recommendations were exactly what I was hoping for (I'm a skin care nut and I can talk about products all day long). Another added bonus was they really understood my hippie needs - I don't like excess chemicals in or on my body! That's really important to me and other "holistic" dermatologists in the area was not like that. Kudos, NCD! Can't wait to see my clear skin in a few weeks! read more

Customer care was terrible. Not only did I have to wait well past my apt time I was also left "lingering" in the hall as no one showed me where to go after telling me to head towards the back. I paid my copay, I also paid additional fees above my copay .... after multiply phone calls I still don't know what for. I also checked with them to ensure they were in network turns out "they don't actually know and couldn't do a verification" then I had to call several times due to an additional bill mailed to me... just to make things more annoying they didn't call with my lab results I had to call them and after two phone calls for the referral I was supposed to leave the office with I got tired of doing their job and gave up. Will not go back nor will the other two family members currently using west dermatology services. read more

My first visit with Joanne Butler was 10/14/2013, my second visit was with my son on 10/17/2013. No doubt in my mind this is the best dermatology office EVER. Joanne is incredibly knowledgable and loves to share this with her patients. The front office staff are warm and inviting, also very knowledgable about the procedures and the product they sell. SkinMedica, Latisse and Botox are by far the very best product on the market and worth every single penny. Today we learned allot about teen acne. My 16 year old son was hesitant and nervous about his visit, not but a few minutes in speaking with Joanne was he relaxed and laughing. Joanne is incredible with kids and you can tell how much she enjoys sharing her wealth of knowledge. I can not say enough good things about this office and Joanne. I don't recommend this practice anymore. My husband was misdiagnosed by the PA. He said the mole he had was 99% not cancerous and even showed us pics of what it could be. He said we could return in three months for a follow up if we wanted but he doubted it was necessary. But we asked for a biopsy to be safe. It turned out to be SKIN CANCER and they didn't even even call us, the lab did!!! Needless to say, We went elsewhere for the treatment and switched our whole family to another practice. Very BIG mistake that could have been very serious if we hadn't insisted on a biopsy!! read more

I went in to North Coast Dermatology for the first time this week with an urgent concern that turned out to be truly urgent. I was, to say the least, extremely nervous because I knew the implications of the symptoms that brought me to that appointment. From the moment I walked into the office (harried and late because it took me far longer than expected to find a parking spot), the staff at the front desk professionally did everything possible to relax me. Back in the exam room, Lauren (not sure what her title is) was friendly, personable, and attentive. Gary Vanetsky, PA, came in soon and offered a totally direct assessment of my condition with gentle warmth and compassion. I opted to go with the most direct course of action, which included a totally unexpected excision of a large slice of my arm. The procedure was completely painless and non-traumatic, primarily because of Gary's demeanor and bedside manner. I intend to follow up, long-term, on the condition that brought me to this visit. And, I am going to pursue my continuing care with North Coast Dermatology. I give a wholehearted, four-thumbs up rave for this medical practice. read more

My son and I both see Gary Vanetsky and we like him and his nurse very well. The treatment seems appropriate, and since we aren't going for skin cancer but acne (son) and rosacea (me) we are perfectly content seeing a PA. Mr. Vanestsky and his nurse are both friendly and we have no criticism of our treatment. Other reviewers complained about the front office, but we've been okay with them. The biggest advantage is they get is in quickly when we want an appointment. My last derm place was booked out for WEEKS every time I tried to get an appointment. In all cases, we've been in to see Mr. Vanetsky within a day or so. While in the waiting room I did hear someone I assume is the office manager talk in a very demeaning way to the other office staff, and my thought was "boy, I wouldn't want to work here", but except for that I have no complaints. read more

More importantly, Gary V. has essentially become my personal skin care consultant. My other family members also utilize NCDMA's care. He does a great job of explaining various skin matters, and takes his time to insure my full understanding. At that point, we then work together on a treatment path to effectively mitigate my issues. I went to North Coast Dermatology today and I saw Dr. Gladsjo. The whole staff was very friendly and made me feel very comfortable. I had a few spots that I was worried about and a few other questions. I was very nervous because I knew that I was going to have a full body check, but the Doctor and her assistant (I forgot her name) made me feel very comfortable and at ease. They both listened to everything that I had to say and helped me with all of my questions. I never felt rushed or that I was asking silly questions. Today was one of the hotter days and they had a fan in the room to help keep patients comfortable. Dr. Gladsjo is the best dermatologist I've ever seen. Unfortunately, I have skin cancer history and I need to go in every 6 months for a full body exam. Dr. Gladsjo is very thorough and always make me feel at ease. I know that she will find a trouble spot. I have not had this confidence with some of my past dermatologists. The fact that she first earned a degree in research before becoming a physician gives me extra confidence. I really like the fact that she does exams and also mohs surgery. Basically, she's got skin health knowledge and experience covered from all angles. Add in her excellent bedside manner and I can't imagine trusting another doctor with my health. read more
