Dr. Chau was very informative on the type of procedure it would be for this Cyst on my eyebrow and he even ask me what was my tolerance for pain so he could adjust my numbing shot. How kind was that..I was happy he asked because im scary as helicopters but im so grateful for them I look better & feel better. They work well together and Dr. Chau has gentle hands. He ask me if I wanted to see what came out of my eyebrow, He was just thoughtful and attentive. PA Heather is great. This Office is a different matter. I was billed for a "no show" fee of $50. The bill said "Product". I called to ask what this was and they said a no-show charge. This was for a second follow up to see how the healing was going from MOH's procedure on my nose. It was healing great and the PA advised unless it gets worse, just cancel the appointment. I tried to call and was either during lunch or after hours. No ability to leave a message. During hours I got the recording the staff "was assisting other patients" and placed on hold. I called probably 6-7 times and could never talk to anyone about the appointment cancel. I went online to "confirm" the appointment and tried to input a message to "Cancel" the appointment. When I advised her that I have been trying to talk to her for weeks, she told me she was busy and unless that issue was right in front of her, she doesn't get to it.... ??? After calling 4 times to talk to the "office manager" and asked for a call back that never happened, the 5th call, I was transferred to the Office manager. I was admonished for not following the proper procedure to cancel. Then accused for being a no show another time too, which is not true. The office manager told me she will wave one???, but I must pay the $50 fine. I've been going to see Heather for many years but I am never going back. WEST DERMOTOLOGY can have my $50 (I'm sure they would put collections after me if I disputed further). I told them to cancel all further appointments with them. I'm transferring to a new Dermo in Seal Beach and asking to have my records transferred over. Not sure if that Office Manager will transfer my records easily or not. My go to Dermatology office, I've been here several times to address some skin issues . The staff members are very friendly, helpful, and professional. The office is clean and organized. My dermatologist, Dr. Chao, is super nice, professional, compassionate, and patient. He addressed my issues and concerns. He took his time to address and explain to me my situation and concerns. This office is kind of a waste of time! Long ago, I called and asked them to schedule a biopsy for the skin cancer I have. The receptionist told me you can only have a chat session, not a biopsy. A chat session is where you sit and talk about things, but no actual treatment is provided. Of course, you still pay for a full office visit, even though you have not really received anything. They do this to make extra money. Personally, I'd rather skip the handshake and the "how am I doing" chat and just get right down to business, since I already know what is wrong and I know exactly what I need to have done about it. The lady on the phone said you get a chat session or else nothing. I chose nothing. Then, just recently, they sent me a phone message asking why I cancelled the last appointment and have not rescheduled yet. So, I called and tried again to schedule a biopsy. It must have been the same person on the phone as before, because they said a chat session was my only option. Honestly, since I am the patient and I am the one paying for this, I feel that I should be able to order what I need. You go in a restaurant and order the chicken. Do they tell you to eat whatever we bring you and be thankful that we even serve you at all? But, that's what you get here. You may be the patient and the one paying for the service. But, to them, you are just a nobody who needs to learn to follow orders and do whatever we tell you to do. Nobody really appreciates that. This costs hundreds of dollars per visit. It's not just a few bucks wasted. Here, lady receptionist! Give me hundreds of dollars out of your personal account and I'll give you little to nothing in return! I'll shake your hand and ask how your day is going. Perhaps, after a minute or two, I'll look at your skin while I have a puzzled look on my face and tell you how this could be almost anything. For this, you will be charged hundred of dollars. Satisfied? I would think, as the patient, you could order the services that you need and not be required to pad their income with chat sessions. I get that they wanna use a chat sessions to add extra fees and extra appointments, but to me, a chat session is simply a waste of time. I already know what I have and rather than chatting with some physician about the weather or how the world is doing, I would actually prefer to get started on removing the skin cancer. Unfortunately, the receptionist makes up her own rules and you either take what she offers or she will tell you to go elsewhere. Needless to say, I would not recommend this office, unless of course, you wanna go and chat with one of them about who-knows-what. "Gee, I've never seen this before...." the physician mutters. I did ask the receptionist if they would check with the physician and let them decide. But, NO! It's her rules and if you won't do what she wants, you are told to go elsewhere. So, I guess I'll go elsewhere then! Plenty of dermatologists here in southern California. Don't need to wait for one with a demanding person on the phone who insists on doing what she wants and ignores whatever the patient wants. Hopefully, after reading this, they'll stop sending me any more messages asking why I have not scheduled any appointments. "Uh, you refuse to provide the services that I need!" I would reply. If I was a physician there, I'd definitely wanna know that my phone staff is sending potential new patients elsewhere. But, if the physicians were actually involved with the patients, this would never have happened. "Uh, hey phone lady, we charge people a lot of money when they come here. So, let's try to provide what they want, instead of YOU trying to make them do whatever you want. You are just here to schedule appointments, and not to decide whether or not you feel this patient is worthy or not." the physician explains. I'm sure they have plenty of other patients, so they won't miss one more. This office may work for you if you are the sort of person who hasn't the slightest idea of what is wrong and you would feel comfortable chatting with a nice man or woman about it. Just call and tell 'em you would like a chat session, and that will get you started. These days, the internet has all the information anyone ever needs. It tells you the what, the how, and the how much. So, I already know what I have and what needs to be done about it. I looked it all up long ago. BTW, there's really not much sense in doing anything about basal cell skin cancer anyway. The dermatologist is just gonna cut it off, but they use an ice-cream scoop and take out a huge chunk of skin. Actually, they use a scalpel, but it still removes a large chunk of your skin. But, some cancer cells have broken free and already spread everywhere, so it's just gonna come back again in a new location. Remember, they sent me a message asking me to schedule an appointment. I gave up on this office long ago. They simply don't have what I want or need. read more

This review is NOT for the doctors. I went in there at 9:45 for a 10:00 appointment. I knew this wasn't going to be good since there were already 5 people sitting there waiting. I checked in quick and the staff were friendly. After a few minutes more people came in. I was like man are they way overbooking? Well people slowly started getting called in to be seen. I sat there waiting, the worst part about this is that 30 mins in, the people who came in after me and that have appointment time AFTER me were being seen BEFORE me... that didn't feel good but whatever. I waited another 30 mins, 3 people came in after me has already been seen. So I said oh boy I cannot imagine doing this and waiting every time I have to come back here in the future. So I went to the front desk and ask to be cancel. They were helpful and told me I was the next own up.... After over an hr of waiting and seeing other people skip the line I said " I am good" they canceled my appointment and refunded me my co pay. I just cannot imagine going back to a well overbooked place. AGAIN this has no correlation to the competency of the doctors there. It seems they are just way too overbooked and overworked. read more

I had my 3rd visit 8/25 with PA-C Heather Patz and her assistant Emma. My 1st visit was a consultation for my itchy, growing keloid and red/purple bumpy patches on my calf. She was definitely ready to treat my issues except my I had to approve the next steps. I was fully made aware of what would happen and what to expect in the next appointments. She was able to prescribe an ointment for my calf that is resolving the issue. I'm going to have injections in my keloid. Heather was so kind, patient and thorough. Emma was kind, professional and followed up with me to make sure I understood Heather told me or if I had additional questions. The office made my future follow-up appointment and put in my authorization to my insurance. Appointment 2, yay! I was scared but excited to get relief from this angry keloid. It's thick/ tough like a car tire I was told years ago by a dr. Heather was so gentle. The area was numbed first. We waited 15 minutes and she was ready to inject the area. Emma gave me a squeeze ball and allowed me to hold her hand also (actually I squeezed it ) and Heather patiently and gently proceeded. She did a countdown of how many injections and I appreciated that so I knew when it would be over. She told me the next time it would be less painful due to the scar will soften. The itching subsided immediately and I already see a huge difference in the scar flattening out. My next appointment is in 6 weeks. 3rd appointment! I'm excited and scared! Excited because it's itchy again and I know after the visit it will be better. Scared because the process is painful for me. I arrived 15 minutes early for the numbing. Emma calls me back to the patient room, she is very welcoming and personable. I'm numbed and Heather comes in to begin. We chat about the progress and today's appointment. I take Emma's hand and the injections begin. I'm a huge baby! But as Heather told me at my 2nd appointment, the injections would get easier going forward as the skin softened. It definitely wasn't as painful as before. Scheduled for 6 weeks I'm sharing the details of my keloid because, i know others suffer with these itchy, thick, raised and unsightly scars. Ten stars if I could! I would definitely recommend Heather for dermatology and cosmetic services. She did my botox earlier this year. I was obsessed with everything that I went back for Botox and lip filler. Amazing work! I was nervous because I had a horrible lip filler experience elsewhere. First time patient. I was super late & they still accommodated me & welcomed me. Dr. Chau made me feel at ease even though I had to have a couple of biopsies & I hate needles. He knew what to do to make it comfortable working with my phobia & gave me a fan, stress squeeze, elevated my feet, and we were done in minutes with zero pain. I can't fault them for not being able to figure out how to treat my itching because I understand you realistically cannot solve everyone's problems. So I will just comment on what I noticed about my experience here. I've had 3 appointments. On my last appointment I was told only Heather, PA, was working. They called two patients at a time so looks like they double book their appointment slots (When I sign in at the front desk, I also notice other patients booked for the same appointment time as I am). I watch the clock and I notice that each patient is already done after 5 minutes. My appointments usually consist of 2-3 minutes talking to the MA, the MA walks out the door and seems to be relaying the info to the PA, then the PA walks in and I basically reiterate the stuff I said to the MA. The PA looks at my skin for 1-3 seconds, make diagnosis, prescribes something, explains other possibilities for why I'm so itchy, then walks out the door. The PA did seem professional, but I always felt she was in a rush. So if you like quick appointments that get you in and out, you may be fine with this office. Your experience might be better if your condition is more obvious and just want treatment, or if you already know what you want out of a dermatology office. However, I cannot say I am satisfied with my experience here. Spending a total of about $300 for 3 appointments that lasted about 5 minutes each and prescriptions that didn't even help is not something I would say is worth it. read more

It was my first time coming here. The front desk people were very nice and professional. What I did not like about this visit was the price for consultation that only lasted 2-3 min. Within those 2-3 minutes, the doctor spoke very professionally which is a good thing as long as they are able to explain it. Unfortunately in this case, she only confused me due to the lack of explanation. Towards the end of my consultation, she only seemed to be in a hurry and leave the room. Came here multiple times to treat a large pimple on my son's arm that wouldn't heal. No result, cost a lot of time and money. The PA gave a wrong diagnosis, wrong culture lab, prescribed 2 wrong and ineffective antibiotics, injected him multiple times and when nothing improved, she wanted to cut it and do a biopsy. This went on for weeks. Went to see an actual Dermatologist, MD for second opinion before letting her cut out my son's skin. One visit, he gave a different diagnosis, prescribed 1 antifungal medication and he healed, just like that. Won't come back here again. Its March 2025 and I again needed to visit with PA Heather Patz. I had a facial skin problem that I neglected for many months due to other health and work time conflicts, but I needed to see the dermatology specialist PA Patz because I waited to long and experienced discomfort. And again PA Patx immediately knew the treatment required and performed the skin drainage and extraction so carefully that I immediately felt better. The follow up directions to apply antibacterial medication with the samples she provided was extremely helpful before my follow up appointment. Her attention and response to all my medical questions was so professional and her bedside manners for me is what makes her so uniquely positive among medical practitioners. I do recommend anyone with common facial or body skin conditions to visit PA Patz and I am sure if the medical condition is more severe, she will advise what is the best course of action with other dermatology specialists. I don't recommend if you are having a rash problem and want someone to actually take your concerns seriously. Be ready to have someone look at your rash for 2 seconds and not care about anything you have to share about your actual lived experience with the rash. The person who screened me asked all the right questions including how uncomfortable my rash was from a scale of 0 to 10 which I said 10. The PA did not follow up on any of that info and I felt uneasy after being diagnosed after a simple eye check for literally 2 seconds, so I expressed that I felt uneasy about moving forward. The PA asked what I wanted her to do about it.. maybe she was having a bad day or something and that's why her style of communication felt condescending? read more

This is place is good i think for basic stuff but when I got a fungal skin infection everything they gave me never actually worked because the infection had gotten to spread but i found an actual way to combat it, anyways it keeps coming back and I was just trying to call to make an appointment or talk to anyone there and i called multiple times during business hours on different days and they literally only picked up like 1 time. they also never call me back after I left voicemails asking for help. Overall such a pain. Heather isnt that bad she is a bit rushed but overall decent you just need to make sure to advocate for yourself of she will be too rushed to fully help you. read more

Called their office, a gal answer the phone, didn't acknowledge me at all. She kept on with her conversation to another colleague, then I went on hold. She came back on the line and I asked if there was any openings for today. She right away said "no, no we cant, not today"--didn't bother to greet and maybe ask what is the reason for me needing to see a Derm. As soon as I got the lack of greeting...I just said "okay thank you, and good bye". The reason why I hesitated to even ask when is the next availability, is "attitude". I have a rash on my upper legs and was in urgent care on Sunday 7/10/22 and I wanted to follow up with a Dermatologist near my work. This place is a complete fraud. They previously persuaded my to take down my negative review but now it's back. I came in for a routine skin cancer screening and I asked the front desk to make sure it was covered by my insurance. Then, instead of doing biopsies, they asked me to come back on another day for a new type of biopsy that used stickers, called Dermtech. I came back, and they did the test, only to be told they want me to come back again two weeks later to test more moles. All in all, they scheduled 5 appointments for what should have been a simple annual screening. I declined to come to more appointments because it seemed really fishy, like insurance fraud. Lo-and-behold, two months later, I get a bill in the mail from Dermtech for $2,600!!! None of it was covered by my insurance. The test results themselves were also meaningless because I got a letter in the mail saying my Dermtech test was inconclusive. I will take legal action if they don't settle my Dermtech bill. This doctor should not even have a license. read more

I arrived early for my appointment and they still took half an hour to send me to an exam room. This is bad booking. The older Caucasian nurse with short blond hair saw me and said something to the other younger nurse who ended up assisting me in the exam room. Not sure what was said but the older nurse ended up letting a man in to the exam room before me when he got there way after I did. This was unfair treatment. When I finally did get to the exam room, the nurse didn't apologize for their lateness in seeing me. Now on to Heather. I had seen her before and she was nice but this time she was hostile telling me there's no way she can get rid of my oil glands which is a ridiculous thing to say as I'm aware that can't be done. I had simply asked that they laser the thing on my nose a little thoroughly so that I wouldn't have to come back for another visit like last time. I'm a patient and I'm allowed to advocate for myself. My treatment here was rude and I won't be coming back. read more
