Everything is over priced. But in a pinch they usually have essentials for boating. Semi conveniently located to the antioch marina.

Left a 1 star for the Alameda location so its only fitting I leave 5 stars for the spectacular service I received from the Pittsburg/Antioch location. In a nutshell, I needed an item that was to be ordered over the phone to be delivered to the store next day in Alameda. Because the item is in stock at their warehouse, it is possible to get it next day, however, you must order by 4pm the prior day. The person on the phone ( who I won't name or publicly shame) takes about 10 minutes to get all my information and proceeds to tell me that we missed the cutoff and would be delivered to the store on the 2nd day. I told him that I really needed it by the next day because I will be leaving on a trip on the 2nd day at 6am. He then asks me if I would be leaving at 6 in the morning or evening? Umm....last I checked AM means morning! He then tells me that the earliest would be the 2nd day since we missed the cutoff time to order. Frustrated at this point, I told him never mind and called back over to the Pittsburg/Antioch store. The very nice lady ( Michelle!! Thank you!!) apologized for the service I encountered, took my order and said it will be there ( in the Pittsburg store) the next day - usually late morning, early afternoon. Keep in mind that this is now about 10 minutes bast the 4pm cutoff time and she was still able to confirm it will be there. From her explanation, the warehouse makes all of these orders to their bay area locations daily so it could have made it to the Alameda store next day. You just have to ask the warehouse and driver to make it happen. I literally live 1 block away from the West Marine Alameda and would have liked to give them the business, being local and not having to drive up to Pittsburg/Antioch but hey, we do what we have to do. It just seemed to go against everything what customer support or customer success should be about. Pittsburg exemplified this, Alameda, not so much. From the outside it doesn't look like much, but this place is actually nice inside. I was looking for a floating strap for my waterproof camera. And although they didn't have it, the lady who helped me went above and beyond to see what she could find for me. She browsed throughout the entire store alongside me looking for something I could substitute as a floating device for my camera. Not only that, she even suggested other stores that might have them. WOW!! Eventually I settled on one of the floating key chains that she showed me, and as it turns out, it works!! And I even saved myself $20!! I always used to pass by this store not caring what was inside, but at the end of my visit, West Marine definitely made it to the top of my list. Their employees are helpful and really go out of their way to help you out. I was very impressed by their customer service!! BTW this is the only place in the area where someone actually went out of their way to help me and find other options for me. I went to most of the sporting goods stores in the area and not a single person EVER suggested other options for me. THANK YOU WEST MARINE FOR THE AWESOME CUSTOMER SERVICE!! This is a good place to go for your water needs I'm not sure what a good price for that kind of stuff is this seems a bit pricey. We weren't sure what kind of life vest to get our daughter and the guys working on father's day were more interested in the girls that had come in the store for a few minutes then helping customers they had. The girls stood outside the store after coming in for a minute and these guys were falling all over themselves to get another look but when my husband and I came to the register they had no problem helping my husband to some kind of membership. I said we didn't need it because we will find another store to shop. My husband had tried to get help but he isn't female and wasn't wearing shorts but once he had money out then they were willing to help. If you know what you need they seem to have a good selection of water stuff. read more

I've never been here before but I went in thinking maybe I could find some sunglasses but when I did find them and asked the man behind the counter ,whom I might add was just standing there playing on his phone, for some assistance he told me that the glasses were pretty expensive and that I probably wouldn't want them anyways. This review is mostly for the corporate folks that decided that the store should be far from any boat yard and close at 5 pm. 5pm???? The reason your store is empty is because most folks actually work.... and folks of the demographics that you need( rich yacht owning people ) don't get off work in time to stop by your store. You are competing against on line shopping now...... why may your store an inconvenience to shop at???. If it's trying to keep the hours down on your employees .... great job ..... look at who you attract to work 7 hrs a day. Your Pleasant Hill store was a morgue..... and it was because you couldn't stay open enough. And opening up at 10???? This is a great store. If they don't have what you want, then they find a store that has it, or orders it for you. The staff is always friendly and helpful. In some stores, you are ignored, but here, you are treated with respect. The only downfall are the prices - west marine has a tendency to triple what something should cost. read more

Went here today with my dad to purchase a fish fillet knife. We were greeted immediately by the two employees at the register and asked if we needed any help. The store always seems to be empty but they've been in business for a good number of years, so they must be generating business on the days when I'm not there. There's a fair amount of items to browse from, and everything seems organized and clean. In terms of price, I tried to do a comparison online with some of the items and found there wasn't much of a difference. read more

Went there today and spent about $200. The clerk Tristan was very unprofessional and lazy. He had a tooth pick in his mouth the entire time. When no one was checking out, he just sat there. I wanted to try on a couple of shirts and asked him if they had a changing room. He looked at me like he had never heard of a changing room and said what? Once he figured it out he said no, just use the bathroom. I went in the bathroom, no hooks to hang stuff on while I was trying on the clothes. Floor vinyl had big holes and floor mops and cleaning supplies laying everywhere. Very unprofessional place. I bought one shirt and he took it off the hanger and left it crumpled up on the counter and said have a good day. I understand no bag which is OK, but at least fold up the shirt so I could carry it out of the store.. I have been buying stuff here for a number of years and at the Stockton store. Stockton store is a thousand times better at everything. I only go to the Pittsburg store if I happen to be near there. I will drive to Stockton from now on. If they can not manage that store correctly, then they should shut it down. read more
