We had such a restful sleep! And the next morning Jessica had made a wonderful breakfast! We enjoys talking about history and the area with everyone at the table! People ask we what brought me to move to this area 3 months later. I tell them the Walker Inn! It is truly a gem! And it opened the door to finding more about Happy Valley and Andrews! We were in town for a wedding, and I happened upon this lovely place by pure luck, after searching for vacancy in any hotel nearby. Well, we ended up finding the greatest spot of them all. The Walker Inn is a historic building as it was built long ago in the 19th century, run by the Walker family as an Inn since 1840. This place is an absolutely incredible find. Our evening began with driving along a scenic route through mountains to get to the inn. Once we arrived, we were greeted so kindly by the owner & host Jessica, who took us on a tour through the beautifully decorated and lovingly maintained inn, showing us all the amenities granted to us & giving us the details on the history of the building. We made it to our room to find a warm & cozy place where we felt like we fit right in. All bathroom items are provided down to even a toothbrush and paste. It wasn't cold quite yet, but the room came with portable heaters, an abundance of blankets & towels, etc. We had a great, deep rest that night. The mountain air & peaceful scape left us fully refreshed in the morning, where we woke up just in time for the breakfast call! At 8:00am Jessica and her husband Phil were steady at work in the kitchen, whipping up a full breakfast of eggs, meats & delectable pumpkin pancakes. The table was adorned with fresh fruit, fresh hot coffee, cream & sugar cubes! Along the perimeters of the dining room were tables covered in assortments of treats & fresh juice (including apple cider!). We loved sitting at the dining table with the other guests, having light hearted conversation about our travels. After breakfast it was time to be on our way, as all the other guests had left in a hurry to continue their journey. Feeling attached to environment, we couldn't bear to leave just yet! We wondered the property taking in all the views, when Jessica eventually joined us and offered to show us her other rooms available to stay in & further educated us on the amazing history of the buildings. We were headed out then, hoping to see a waterfall on our way back into town, and Phil chimed in to give us the inside scoop on the best waterfall in the area and provided directions to a route that would eventually show us even more amazing angles of beautiful Cherokee County. All in all, I could not have dreamed a better experience for our getaway. We are so grateful to have stayed here, & most certainly will be back again someday. Our breakfast the following day was pancakes, warm maple syrup, yummy sausage patties, & fluffy scrambled eggs. Hemlock Inn is conveniently located a short drive from downtown Bryson City and the Cherokee side of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Hemlock Inn is a nice little place in the woods with quaint rooms, limited technology, and good Southern food. I loved that they rang a dinner bell and had a blessing before each meal, served family style. We traveled with our 1 year old and I was glad I packed some of his favorite foods from home to bring with us (we as moms know our little ones can be picky). Hemlock Inn will gladly provide you with ice to keep items cold and some rooms even have a small refrigerator. The staff here at Hemlock Inn are so attentive and welcoming. During our stay, there were 2 families with children, a backpacking couple, the musicians that played the Saturday night show at the local brewery, and of course us (rafting/biking/hiking and a little bit drunk each night). Right from the start we were greeted by Rosa who immediately made us feel right at home with her warmth and humor. Chef Andrew is an incredible talent. Everything was just extraordinarily delicious! We started with a very yummy chili with cornbread followed by the best pork belly we have had with a yummy almond butter sauce (lord!!) and then finished it off with perfectly cooked flatiron steaks with yummy cowboy butter! Oh and Chef even brought us some crispy cilantro rice that was also just a masterpiece of flavors. I don't know how many times I stopped during our meal to exclaim "this is SO GOOD" ....but it was many. That was the food- the people and service were as if not more impressive. Taz, the innkeeper who served us was incredibly kind and friendly and even brought us a complimentary champagne toast, which was so nice and appreciated! Again Rosa was hilarious and so sweet to us and then we met Shannon who brought us our desserts at the end of our meal and also made us feel like old friends. The front desk girls were so sweet, welcoming, and ready to take care of whatever we needed and the Innkeeper/GM, Taz, wow! She seems to do it all and does it with such grace and kindness and pays attention to every guest - no matter how busy. We enjoyed speaking with her and learning the history of this little tucked away find. And what a find! What a location! Magnificent views and so peaceful, yet so many things you can do - especially nothing at all! Exploring was so much fun! They have an age limit of 13 years so keep that in mind if you have kiddos but what an escape and needed respite for us. They make fresh baked cookies in the morning - so delicious. Service overall was impeccable and we felt well cared for. Even better than warming up by the gorgeous fire and having our cocktails hand delivered was the food. The Chef most definitely has talent and the quail was perfection - also such creative presentation of his dishes! Who knew 5-star quality dining was waiting for us in such a perfectly remote location. It is so gorgeous up here as the weather turns cooler but we will definitely have to come back in the summer to take advantage of the water activities. We met beautiful people during our stay and if the fact couples make it a point to keep coming back years later doesn't speak to you about how special this place is, maybe the fact that you will witness hospitality at its finest and truly hard-working human beings who not only serve up an amazing experience but true kindness.
