Super pleased with the very friendly and professional service here! They took care of my deaf 93-year-old mother with patience and warmth! We went in on Saturday morning, which my husband told me was a good time to go. We arrived around 11am, which proved to be the magic moment, as many people were leaving, and the waiting room was empty on our arrival. We COVID distanced, and so did the staff, who had prepared everything for no-touch transactions. We were called in to see the phlebotomist after a 15 minute wait in the large airy waiting room. All the staff was very patient with my mother, who has virtually no hearing left. I was able to stand right outside the cubicle while she had her blood drawn. The phlebotomist was efficient and the proceedure was quick, even though my mom has tiny veins, which are hard to find. The phlebotomist even complemented my mom on her pretty nail polish. We were very happy to get all good news results after a complete blood panel just one week later! read more

NOTE: WestPac (formerly Central Coast Pathology) HAS MOVED to corner of S Higuera and Granada (a few blocks toward Tank Farm from old location by Sherwin Williams!!!!!!! This review is for my last visit summer of 2022. Facility rating: ONE STAR Staff rating: 4 STAR: They need support staff for the lab techs. People waiting can still be quite a few resulting in long wait times, online appointments help with getting in and out faster, but still be prepared to wait longer than expected. But online appointment site make no notice of recent address change (I had been to previous location my last visit a few weeks ago). Appearance of dirtiness, 'clean' stains or not matters. Unfinished walls needing repairs and painting, tattered chairs, etc make you want to leave and skip having your blood drawn. They are now at their long time administrative building accessed off Granada instead of the S. Higuera St. address, as noted above parking lit is accessed from Granada, and can be difficult to find a parking space. Additionally parking and building access for the disabled is difficult due to distance and having to go around building for access on backside then once inside doing back to front facing S. Higuera. Handycap parking near the front door would be an improvement. Not all mobility vans are mini vans, there need to be room for longer mobility van in a full parking lot. Current handycap spaces are near front of building but a long way from the bldg entrance. Front desk check-in should be at first room you enter, and consider using first room behind it for lab draw checkin and admin via a new wall opening. There should be Draw rooms closer to front for the mobility impaired. This was a big fail, and I'm not sure if facilities meet ADA or not. They don't work for this disabled reviewer. Initial impression walking through door into suite 100 was quite good. Beautiful room, decor, and furniture, but everything goes to heck after that. You have to walk down a long dingy hallway with filthy carpets into a even more disgusting receiving room. They just moved the inadequate 'check in' counter and worn out chairs from the old location. The carpet in the room is stained, filthy and torn. Wall haven't even been touched up since last use of the area moved out (company cubical land??) When pointing out filthy stained carpets was told they are cleaned 2-3 times per week. IF that is true, it is time for all new flooring, and also time to paint, fix unfinished wall corners and nicks, stains, drywall surface tests etc. Does not look like a place you want to have a sterile blood draw, or other collection done. I'm am going to seriously consider future lab draws at other EASIER TO GET TO and CLEANER location in SLO. I can think of two locations in SLI that meet that right now. To WestPac managers: Recommendation to get back up to the professional operations you once were many years ago now and improve current location. * Add 4 handicap parking spaces where your courier reserved parking spaces are now, and move courier spaces over 2-4 spaces on either side. * Entrance to Suite 100 address. Floor and room color in addition to new furniture (chairs) are a good start and initially look beautiful and inviting, but at closer look even that room needs to tended to with scares and unfinished corners. Add a through the wall checkin window from first adjoining room, which will also as privacy as your current set up is unmanned most of time allowing for exposure of private information. * Have 2 of the closest room used as lab draw room with priority for disabled patients, particularly mobility (distance issues). * continue the hard surface wood look flooring of entry room to hallway and second large waiting area (used for checked in patients). * entire area needs drywall patch work, minimal texture repair, new paint, and new flooring. * Technician Rooms also need fresh paint and new flooring. * adding a competent receptionist to handle check-in and insurance information would keep operation running much smoother. You have the volume of patients to justify the help that once was in place, granted not all past individuals who did the job were a good customer service type first impression or 'face' for the operation. An additional note is based on this last visit. It went so bad I have plans of returning. Sad given I have using WestPac for nearly a decade. read more

This is the filthiest, slowest, most bizarre blood lab I've ever been to. Now, come to the blood draw after waiting an hour... that was the worst blood draw of my entire life. I've had a lot in my life! I have never had someone continuously move the needle up and down and in and out. She didn't fully fill 3 vials and had to stop. She had to go get another person. WestPac Labs has ruined what used to be a great lab (Central Coast Pathology). They are horribly understaffed, their new staff is unfriendly and acts like they hate their jobs, they've closed locations and the wait is ridiculously long. Today at their only Santa Maria location the waiting room was full as well as the outside area (there wasn't enough places to wait outside). So sad, we have been long time customers before WestPac took over. read more

The staff is working hard but this office appears to be routinely understaffed. I have never spent less than an hour here for simple labs which take just minutes to administer. I wish they would hire additional staff. Their billing department is atrocious. I can't count how many times they've made errors (double billed or forgot to apply insurance to the bill). They also routinely send invoices 3-6 months after service. Very discouraging. read more

West PAC needs to up their game a bit. Their process of bringing up your lab order and preparing your file is inefficient and slow. Further, they don't have a phone app like their competitors do (eg, Quest, LabCorp), and when you access their online portal it's a little cumbersome. If you have a problem with receiving your lab results, it takes them 3 days to get back to you (if they get back to you at all). I hope they'll improve read more

First of all, make sure you go in the afternoon if at all possible. If your blood tests require that you don't eat for 12 hours, eat as late a dinner as you can, then go the next day as late in the day as you can. In the morning the office is quite busy and the wait can be long. The phlebotomists who have attended to me have been skilled and polite. A few years ago I took my 10-year-old daughter for a blood draw and they were very patient and gentle with us. read more

The receptionist had a attitude when I asked if they had the lab order on file since I didn't have mine on hand and she said she didn't know and that I might have to go back to the pediatricians and get it. This is BS when they actually do have in on file since the nurse said that they sent it over. She acted snotty and said we were in luck that they had it on file. Pros: The employees are very nice! Cons: There is NO organization! It's not the staff's fault. The manager needs to come up with a better process, or a process at all! People huddle around the desk, asking questions, and it confuses the staff. I had an 11:15 am appt. They called my first name, but then an elderly lady with the same first name went up. The staff looked confused, but since she had lots of people surrounding her with questions, she just changed the appt info to the elderly woman's. This was my appt slot! And the elderly woman didn't have an appt. I didn't know all of this, and just assumed they knew what they were doing. I waited 15 more minutes, before approaching the staff. But by then people who had a later appt got served in front of me too. I was there 1 hour 15 minutes before I got my blood drawn. I was an emotional wreck! I left riddled with anxiety and anger. Every time I've had lab work done, something is screwed up in their system (it's always an error on their part), AND (unrelated) the front desk person is consistently rude and unapologetic, when the error is discovered (which generally means having to come back at a later date). The previous company before them, Central Coast Pathology, used to have five staff when this town's population was much less. Getting your blood drawn and fasting for 12 hours beforehand is not anyone's favorite experience. I have to do this about every 3 months so I've become quite familiar with the lab. The phlebotomists and front desk staff are all courteous, professional and skilled. Some are also very friendly and personable. However because many people come in the morning, after fasting all night, morning is predictably the busiest time. So you would think the company that owns this place would have more staff on hand in the morning. However it always seems understaffed. My second critique is that they don't offer wireless and generally the waiting area is drab. Nothing like staring at a bunch of strangers waiting to get "poked!" They do have water and coffee in the lobby. But the waiting area is otherwise pretty from, not even a TV with news. So they could easily improve the lobby and waiting area. read more

Fix your signs, Westpac!!! Unfortunately Westpac Lab in San Luis Obispo is my only option for fasting labs since their Atascadero location is closed and I have to drive south for work after my blood drive. Their "patient service center" location is poorly marked with small and unspecific signage on Higuera street. The GPS apps route you to their corporate offices on Higuera which of course have terrific signs and the building is highly visible. By the time I finally found the lab the line was out the door (7:15) and I had to go to work instead of completing my lab draw. The fact that I was fasting and uncaffeinated didn't make the situation any better. read more

Savannah, PT-1, at West Pac Labs, on Higuera Street, in San Luis Obispo, CA, went beyond my expectations. When I walked in, there was no order from my pulmonologist to obtain sputum cups. Instead of turning me away, Savannah contacted my pulmonologist, James Sellers, on Ella Street in San Luis Obispo, and worked with them to get my request for sputum cups completed while I waited. She did everything possible to help me. She finally received a fax from my pulmonologist and I was able to leave West Pac with the right sputum cups and detailed directions. She was thorough in her explanation of what I had to do. I wish more people were like Savannah. She really cares about the people who visit West Pac Labs on Higuera Street. Thank you, Savannah! The next day when I dropped off my first sputum cup sample, I wrote a note to her Supervisor, Mr. Cory Blunt, telling him how Savannah treated me so well. read more

Came in earlier this week for labs. Probably arrived closer to 3:30pm. There was three people waiting in front of me but I didn't have to wait very long. I waited for about 30min or so. There was minimal staff so I can see why some people post about long wait times and no staff. Soon after I arrived, more people started coming in. So, I imagine they would of had to wait longer than I did. There is plenty of seating area inside. I wish they would have some TVs or something to keep people busy while they wait. Not everyone wants to be on their phone all the time. Parking up front is a challenge. There is minimal spots and really no signs to point at parking lot BEHIND the building. Good luck getting a parking spot in the front. Overall it was a decent experience, my phlebotomist was very nice and professional. I would come back but not during high peak times. I haven't had my blood drawn since age 10 and it was a horribly traumatizing experience (stabbed with the needle multiple times, painful bruises afterward). I was terrified to come here, even with a Xanax prescribed from my doctor specifically for this. The front desk staff person was clearly sick, which did not instill confidence in my experience. However, I only waited 5 minutes to go into a room. When I was brought into the room with Daisy, she spoke in a calm, quiet voice and reassured me everything would be okay. She offered to take me to the lay-down room when she saw how scared I was. Throughout the entire very quick experience she continuously asked if I was okay. It barely hurt. Ok, first I will say that what little contact I had with the two employees was pleasant. Now on to the reason for two stars. I live in Los Osos where we are sometimes treated like second class citizens. I was very happy with our location except for the shortage of employees. As hard as they tried, two people were just not enough. I also understand that the Morro Bay location had some of the same problems. So rather than bringing in extra employees or combining the two, WestPac closed both and brought those employees to the Higuera location. Los Osos has a lot of seniors who rely on their lab location. Now, as we enter seasons of inclement weather they'll have to drive what to them is a long drive. I went to the Higuera office and between check in and the wait for the blood draw I waited 1.5 hours. One man was so sound asleep they almost had to shake him awake! When I went in to leave a "sample", I was sent in without the usual sanitary wipe. All in all a miserable experience. I had a truly terrible experience at WestPac (Sonic) lab in SLO. I made an appointment. When I checked in, the phlebotomist / receptionist denied that I had an order on file. I was able to provide a hard copy. The young attendant had me wait for over an hour as new walk-in clients came and left. This was clearly and confusingly punitive. I felt pretty powerless, but maintained my composure. I don't think I've written a negative review on YELP, but the behavior was so egregious I feel that I need to share. I contacted the COO of Sonic Healthcare and he kindly passed over to his compliance officer. The appointment was 9/2 and has 10 days and Stanford has not received my results. I am concerned that my tests were not sent in. I am a heart translant recipient and the tests check my anti rejection medication. I am worried that that the actions of the staff at the lab were not only bizarre and upsetting but that they may have endangered my health. I left a message with the compliance officer this evening plan to call the lab tomorrow. I hope they will tell me if they sent the blood tests to Stanford. In any case, I will travel as far as necessary to avoid this lab. This was one of the worse experiences I have had dealing with any business. read more

The building is nice, the staff are nice and the environment is peaceful. Truly a good in house experience. The accounting department on the other hand are a complete and total group of morons. Every single one of you. I had my services done in a timely manner. I was called with my results well within the two weeks that I was told I would hear from the pathologist and then 4 months later I received my bill. Really!?! Get your act together! What business takes 4 moths to send out a bill. It's ridiculous! Maybe I should wait 4 months to send in my payment. Oh, wait...in the real world people who don't pay their bills on time get sent to collections and then their credit gets messed up. Where are the repercussions for lazy businesses? I don't think I've been so upset about a healthcare service since the beginning of Kaiser, before they refined their service and care. The appointment reminder said to come 15 minutes early, I got here 30 minutes early because I didn't know the location and didn't want to be late. The check-in computer wasn't working, the waiting room was packed with masked waiting patients. Forty minutes passed my scheduled appointment and no one had taken my ID or given me the supposed paper work. The appointment confirmation never told me to fast, but I knew I needed too, so I sat hungry, thirsty, and with a growing headache. The phlebotomist all seemed professional and friendly enough, but there did not appear to be a single receptionist or manager in charge. I watched as people who came in after me were helped. I had checked in twice at the desk to make sure they knew I was sitting there. An hour and a half later, still waiting. Not wanting to fast again. I'll wait. Getting blood drawn already isn't fun, but this experience was over the top bad. Be prepared to sit a d wait. read more

My husband went in for typical bloodwork... he expected to have a longer than normal wait but it became ridiculous after 4 clients who checked in after him was called. He waited 1.5 hrs. and left. Poor customer service and will not go to West PAC again. read more
