One day, I was googling a certain pair of Vans that I had been eyeing for awhile, but I knew that it would be a long shot since they had been sold out on the Vans website for months. I took a chance, Googled, and found a few websites that were selling them in the color I was looking for and in my size. Originally, I had been looking at 2 other sites and comparing prices and shipping costs, but as I scrolled further down, Rose Street Skateshop popped up. I love supporting indie shops and I called them right when it opened to ask a few questions before placing my order. My luck was that I was heading down to SD for a work conference and Rose Street Skateshop was on the way, so might as well stop by to pick up my order and try the shoes on in-person. The owner's wife answered the phone and she was so kind and answered all my questions. I placed the order online and made a note the dates I could stop by to pick-up my order. It really is their passion project, and they are not out to swindle their customers out of money. The cost of shipping is very reasonable, and I would have actually had the item shipped if I could not make it down. I stopped by and was greeted immediately by the owner as I stepped into the store. My order was stored away perfectly and I got to try them on in the store. The owner was awesome and even included a few stickers with my order. They also have a wonderful website and great email newsletters, the photos are great! If you live in the area, most definitely visit Rose Street Skateshop! They provide great customer service, are patient in answering any questions you have, and have quite the selection!

Rented a pair of foam boards and wetsuits from progression this morning and got out for about 25…read moreminutes until my girlfriend took a weird fall and dislocated her kneecap. We had to take a truck on the beach to moonshine because she was unable to make the walk to exit Leucadia beach. This was problematic for us because we didn't know how we were gonna be able to return the boards and wetsuits. I called the guy working at the store to work this out and he said it would be no issue at all for me to leave the boards and wetsuits at the top of the stairs and they would take care of the pickup. This was an absolute godsend. They went totally out of their way to help us out when we needed it, and they were very sympathetic and said they hoped that she was ok and they were sorry about what happened. On top of this they didn't charge us anything for the day. And on top of THAT they had the best prices out of all the stores we checked for rentals, very affordable and simple. I just have to say the service at this establishment is absolutely exemplary and the gentleman working the store that day should be commended. I would highly recommend to anyone wanting to buy or rent surfing equipment in Encinitas!

He gave me a few recommendations over the phone, and instead of thinking about it for a few days, I made the 60-mile drive down the very next day -- impatience at its finest. When I got there, Mike greeted me, spent a ton of time answering questions, listened to all my concerns, and never once tried to upsell me. He was super laid back, knowledgeable, and helped me find the perfect longboard for where I am in my surfing journey. After I made my decision, he walked me through everything, explained why he recommended the board, threw on an initial wax job, and even hooked me up with a few bars for the drive home. The best part? Everything he told me about the board turned out to be true. On my first session, the difference was immediate. The board performed exactly as he described and made the transition from my old board incredibly easy. I was already hooked on surfing before, but after riding this board, I now have an even bigger hunger to get in the water. Honestly, it's probably not healthy. hahaha! A few weeks later, I called the owner, John, just to let him know how happy I was with the experience. He was every bit as genuine as Mike--clearly someone who cares about his customers and has a real passion for surfing.
