My first experience with Leah was good for a highlight. I went in yesterday for a hair cut. I showed Leah the attached pictures of the bob I wanted which I've had in the past. I ended up with a significantly shorter cut that was so thinned out I feel like I have so much disconnection in my hair. The back is so short in parts that I can hardly grab it with my fingers, let alone straighten it. I also have naturally curly hair so I can only imagine the nightmare of how I'm going to deal with those pieces once wet and styling until they're long enough to deal with. I also want to preface, my hair was well past my shoulders, very health and had no face framing or short layers when I walked in so it should have been pretty straightforward. I was shocked when I left the salon yesterday and even more shocked at the lack of accountability in Leah's response in the attached text. I feel like I spent almost $100 to get my hair butchered while also ending up as an emotional dumping ground throughout the entire appointment. read more

The first thing I noticed is that the interior of the salon was comfortably arranged - unlike most places that feel like a doctor's office, there was a cosy sitting area that felt like Martha Stewart had been by recently. This great hospitality proved to be a fortunate trend. Even though me and my companion showed up as walk-ins close to closing, Debra made accommodations for both of us. The haircut itself I'm very happy with, and I'm even happier with the service - so much so I even booked my next appointment in advance. Thank you to the wonderfully kind and sweet ladies at WEST Salon By Leah! My mom was recently going through high dose radiation and had a large, uncomfortable catheter sitting just above her pectoral muscle. She had not been able to wash her hair in 5 days. We tried to wash her hair at home, but every position we tried struck her with severe pain. We decided to take a shot at West Salon By Leah to see if they could fit her in for a wash. Not only were they happy to fit her in their busy schedule, but they did it free of charge. I can't thank these ladies enough for putting a smile on my mom's face. Do not go here if you have curly hair! The staff was kind and personable, the salon was cute and clean, and it was really easy to make an appointment that fit into my schedule but my haircut was/is not done well at all. I don't think they have the expertise to work with curly hair. My hair was blow dried and flat ironed before it was cut so once I went home and wet it, I could see that the style wasn't what I requested and that the right side was cut shorter. The salon was great about getting me back in to fix the style of the cut (free of charge,) but now the LEFT side is too short. It's too much of a hassle to go back a third time and I don't want my hair any shorter than it already is so I'll have to wait until it grow back to visit a different salon. I know curly hair can be difficult to cut so if it wasn't for my lop-sided-curly hair cut I would definitely return based solely on how friendly the stylists are. read more

I'm new to Austin. Got here about a month ago, and it was time for a haircut. I searched for places by my apartment and found West Salon. Was just gonna go to a chain shop like sports clips or something, but decided to give this place a shot based on the Yelp reviews and because I'd rather support a small business too. Now back home I always had my haircut by my mom who's been a hairdresser since I could remember so there were some lofty expectations walking in here and I wasn't sure they could be met, lol. Well I showed up for my appointment and was greeted by my stylist Deborah. For 25 bucks I got an awesome cut and all my worries were gone by the time she was done. She was awesome and super nice, really easy to talk to also. She fulfilled my expectations and then some. She is a magician with scissors and a perfectionist, my hair has some wild cowlicks and can be hard to manage and she knew exactly how to cut it to make it do what I wanted. She really enjoys what she does and it shows when your walking out the door with a sharp fresh cut. She takes her time to make sure every part of your hair is perfect. I'll be going to Deborah from now on as long as I live in Austin, I can't recommend her enough. read more

I'm a guy and I use to buzz my hair but I found myself in an industry that it was important to make a very professional first impression. I started going to Sam over a year ago at a different salon and she's the only person I allow to cut my hair cause she is that good. I'm in/out quick and it's not painful for my wallet. I followed Sam to West Salon and the place is really coming together. The renovations are fantastic and I can't wait to see the finished products. I got my hair done my Leah, she did an amazing job fixing my hair. I was going to a different salon and the chick who did my hair had a baby and I also moved to a different part of Austin and needed a new place quick! Everyone at the salon was awesome and nice. They have the best sinks to wash your hair in as well!!! It's not the bowl shape ones that you have to position yourself uncomfortably so they can wash the stuff out of your hair, they are more flat so you can easily lay your head back and sit comfortably. read more

Went in once and got an ok cut. Went in again to give it another shot. First of I was given an appointment time when no one was in the salon... Figured it was a mistake so I waited. I asked to have my current cut cleaned up and my neckline cleaned up. The girl I was scheduled with said she wasn't comfortable and passed me off to another lady. She did go ahead and wash and dry my hair while I waited... I was then asked to come back later in the day because she didn't have time then... So weird. Don't think I'll be going back. read more

I love these folks! Last May, I decided I wanted to chop off and donate 8 inches of my hair, and Leah made sure I was comfortable with it first. She suggested adding layers, but told me that I should get used to the short hair for a few weeks before she did. Samantha has also done some of my trims, and she's fantastic too. Debra is amazing! I bring our two young boys here and they leave with perfectly handsome haircuts every time. We tried so many other salons and hairdressers, but often times they struggle with our boys because they are young and move around a lot (or cry!).
