Traveling through Salt Lake City, for some reason, I wanted to eat at a pool hall. Luckily, West Valley Billiards popped up in my searches and was close to the airport where I was staying. Not being familiar with th elocal custom, I sat at the bar and ordered a beer. I was told by the bartender/cook that I had to sit in the back to order beer. The place was split down the middle by a wall and a swinging door next to the bar. In front of the wall = cokes and sprite; behind the wall beer and hard liquor! Maybe those teenagers won't notice that we are drinking back there. Anyway, I got up, moved a few spots down the bar - past the swinging door and ordered a beer. They had the standards on tap with a local brew thrown in for good measure. This is the main reason I wanted to hit a bar for dinner - to try the local beers, so I was in luck! The menu had a staggering array of sandwich/hamburger options, so I wasn't quite ready to order when the waitress/bartender brought my beer and wanted to take my order. This was a mistake because she was the only waitress/bartender (there was a man who was a bartender/cook) for the entire place. Since there were at least 50 or more people in the place, she was a very busy woman. About 10 minutes later, she was able to take my order. Since the bartender/cook mainly focused on cooking, I got my food quickly and freshly prepared. I enden up choosing the philly cheese steak with fries. The sandwich was excellent, close to ones I had in Philly. If you're not from this small portion of the US or have never been, most everyone eats their fries with fry sauce, not ketchup. Fry sauce is pink and is ketchup and mayo mixed together. Its an amazing condiment and I don't understand why it has not spread into other parts of the counrty. Hopefully, West Valley can hire some more waitstaff or my visit was during a time when someone missed their shift. Other than the slower than usual service, it turned out to be a nice place to eat. As for pool, they have 7 or 8 foot coin operated tables, maybe 10 or so (some on the beer side, some on the coke side). I don't remember it being smoky, but i don't think people were somking maybe its not allowed. They had a poker tournament on the beer side while I was there. Decor and furnishings are very spartan, the place is in a shopping strip and it looks like it from the inside. Beers were reasonably priced ($4 or so) and sandwiches with fries ran about $6. read more

The place is not bad, but it could use work. For starters the menus by the bar are just too old (personal taste). The actual paper menus are decent and prices are also decent, but the quality could improve at least on the burger side. The burgers feel sort of dry and empty not filling in a satisfying way, just enough to get the job done. The French fries are on par with Wendys Fries. The machines to play there are fun and the environment is more fitting of a 90s-early 20s small town bar and restaurant so if you into that and food that tastes good enough, but nothing special you'll feel at home. read more

Good bacon cheeseburger and fries. My main issue is the cleanliness of establishment. Also 2.50$ for a soda seems a bit high. My burger was only 6.90$ and it came with fries. Very friendly service. Overall a solid 3.5 stars. read more

This is my go to spot for a burger! I've been coming here since I was a kid in the 90s. Brought my son here for lunch one day and he was a bit reserved cus it's an old hole in the wall spot. He described it as those places you see in the movies, gritty but fun and fights break out lol. He ordered the Philly and I get the usual Bacon Cheeseburger. Needless to say it's now his favorite spot and he loves exactly what I've loved about it for years, the old school bar feel. Severs are always delighted to see us and the cook is a cool dude who you know can handle business if a bar fight was to break out. *cue shotgun and shades lol But seriously folks, don't go expecting some fine dine experience but rather a local bar/grill with excellent food and service. Was looking for a place to play pool last night and this was the closest to the area I was driving...went in and the bar was full because there was a boxing match going on. There is a few arcade games and tables before you reach the pool tables. There are 5 pool tables on the other side of the 21 and over bar entrance and one was empty, my date and I were happy to find a table. All the other tables were being used by younger kids an since it was our first time we asked them how much to play. They told us 75 cents but that we needed to go to the front and leave your ID or cell phone to get the balls to play. I went up to the front of the bar and asked to borrow the balls, but the guy told me sorry we are out. I looked over the bar and saw 2 other sets of balls to play. What kind of service is that? The restrooms to the women's bathroom didn't have a door on the outside and they are right next to the pool tables. I guess I should feel safe since there were hand written signs saying "smile, you are on camera" read more

Excellent, friendly service. It's an old building. Beer service in separate side of a X large room. I haven't been on the other side but believe they have many arcade games and pool for underage/nonbeer drinking folks. Restrooms are clean. Sandwiches and fries are yummy. Prices are very reasonable. read more
