we came here on a Tuesday evening and the bartender was incredibly rude. After asking if the pool was free since it was racked and the bar was empty, he responded with "nothing in this world is free" what the heck! After asking for another beer he rudely snapped at us asking if are going to bring the glass back. He then decided to close the bar at 10:30 when the posted sign was 1 am. The Spot is a good lively bar on main street. If you get tired of the Woodshed, this place is only two blocks away. The decor and crowd made me feel like I was Ponyboy Curtis from the movie the outsiders. They have plenty of seating and an informal dance floor to boogie. I liked how the female restrooms were properly labeled "Her Spot". My only complaint is that there were allot of people crowding the bar, so it was somewhat difficult to purchase a drink. The spot plays good music and has nice pool tables with plenty of room to maneuver. This place advertises $5 dollar domestic pitchers on Mondays and $3 dollar cocktails on friday. read more

The door guy literally yelled at me when I walked past him at the door. Yelled "HEY!" then accused me of ignoring him on purpose? I apologized, explained I hadn't seen him , and showed him my license, and he continued to accuse me of trying to sneak in. Like, why would I do that ? Really threw me off, and I would have left right away if i hadn't been there to see a friend. I would have given 1 star if it hadnt been for the absolutely charming bartender . I've been before, and she's always so sweet (btw when I was there before , I showed my ID at the bar; there was nobody at the door) . Too bad about the psycho at the door . I love, love, love this place. I love it for many reasons. A few include; cheap drinks, friendly staff, e-z parking and location. Salt Lake liquor laws may be quirky (at least were not dry!), not every drink at every watering hole is going to be amazing. One thing I do when I visit a new place is just ask the bartender "whats your suggestion/house special?" and they'll make ya the best drink they know how. The Sex on the Beach or shot & a beer is all I really get at The Spot. The staff is so nice, they even have a doggy walking around (I don't really like pets, but he's so cute...) a nice juke box, cheap pool, and sometimes its dead quiet, other times it can be pretty hoppin with a good mix of people, which I don't mind, so long as they leave me alone, which I haven't been bothered yet, so they'll keep gettin my dime. If one is looking for a 'scene' or 'nigh club' this ain't it. Looking for a nice place to mingle with some work chums? This is the place. read more

The best dive bar in SLC (just don't Spoil it by telling too many people). The staff is always accommodating and friendly. Jumper, who runs the bar, is the absolute best bartender in Salt Lake - she makes drinks quickly, assures everyone feel at home, and gets to know the regulars personally. The Pool tables get full on the weekends, but the clientele is always willing to join teams or alternate games, and on the weekdays the bar is quiet and the tables are open. This place has been a fixture for our crew through birthdays, heartbreaks, engagements, and a very impromptu white elephant gift exchange we held here. Come in, pet the resident dog, and have a wonderful night...just keep it on the down low to preserve this hidden gem. read more

I recently celebrated aging one more year recently, and The Spot was very helpful in accommodating our little shindig. After a Bees game (this bar is very close to the baseball stadium), we had a few drinks while enjoying a giant tres leches cake. The bartender was 100% welcoming and helpful, and the beers were delicious. Extra points: cool dogs (I'm talking real dogs, like a labrador and some other cute-as-hell pooch) chilling at the bar in the later hours Special tip: if you're not thirsty for something alcoholic, they make a delicious ginger ale with bitters. yum! read more

How does the Spot not have more reviews?!? Fully stocked selection, amazing cocktails, and jalapeño beer?! At least that's one of the things my friends tried (and loved). My tender Monday night soul needed a friendly Stongbow cider and a shot of Fireball. Jumper, our bartender, is perhaps the nicest, most gracious lady on the planet! For a friend's birthday, she made sure our whole group was taken care of and had drinks in hand. Periodically, she'd check on us to see if we were enjoying ourselves and needed anything else. This bar looks divey from the outside, but it's really nice inside. They have five or six pool tables and lots of booths and tables. The reason I love this bar is because one there is usually a dog walking around, and two they have the nicest bar tender ladies in the world. read more

Visted Spring of 07 I finally had a night in Salt Lake...I found a review of this place it seemed perfect...I was in the mood to play pool...It was thursday and I think 11:30 Atmosphere: (2 out of 5) out side looked like used car lot...but inside was ok, Dark 4 pool tables liked the walls by the bathrooms...the tables seemed ok and they had a jukebox... Drinks: (0 out of 5) Ok this was my first adventure into the Utah buy a member ship then we Hijack all your drinks and then run them through a strainer to limit how much alcohol ...then water them down NO MATTER WHAT!... Crowd: (1 out of 5) may be 10 people. all kind off stand off ish...evenly I got tired of playing pool by my self and talked someone in to playing...I played one of my best games ever...until I scratched on 8-ball. they where pissed the whole time saying how mainly they hated outsiders like me...yep warm and fuzzy... bartendors and bar patrons seemed to have the same additude... Both stars are given for the dog who hangs out here - as he's the only friendly creature there. Bartender (owner?) was very rude - which was really strange as we were 3 of only 5 patrons there on a Monday evening and were ready to throw down money on drinks. The drinks, of which we only got one round because of the aforementioned service attitude, were terrible. The SLC bar scene (even dive bar scene) has too many good options these days to waste your time/money on places like this. Do wish more bars had resident dogs though. read more

I really like this bar. The only thing it's missing it PEOPLE. If this bar was in Denver, it would be packed. Roomy, clean, TONS of high point beer options, great bar staff, pool tables, and they got the lighting right. Why this bar is not hoppin' is beyond me. Come on people, go to the Spot. This is my favorite bar in SLC. It is kind quirky and eclectic, but really welcoming and fun. I don't get to go as often as I like because it isn't really near my house, but every time I have been in there the staff has been nice. The guy who works there was a a touch surly to me once because I wasn't standing where he wanted me to stand to get a drink, but everyone has a bad day and he is generally quite nice. The women who work there are always kind and quick with the drinks. I am not a regular and would be surprised if they remember me, but I always feel as welcome as anyone. The bar isn't always packed. It fluctuates a lot actually. Sometimes you will go there and there will be 3 people. Other times you pop in and it is real busy. There is a dog that walks around the bar trying to get people to throw ice. Sometimes it sits on a chair. It is an adorable perk of going there. The drinks are reasonably priced and the pool is cheap. They have four solid pool tables and lots of space. The seating is kind of strange, but really well set up to give people room. It, like everything with this bar, oddly works. A few of the regulars that I see in there can be off putting near the end of the night. They are generally harmless, they just want attention and want everyone to know they are regulars, sometimes this makes them jerks. It is negligible critique for a bar really. All bars have those people from time to time, regulars or not. The staff always does well to keep things light and I am sure would step in if they were really a problem. In all, this is my bar pick in SLC. I always have a great time there. I highly recommend it. read more

What a cool, underrated bar. It's definitely divey, but that's part of the charm. To be completely honest, there is nothing insanely unique about this bar... but the staff is good and the people that are there are usually pleasant. Also, not sure if the little guy is still alive, but they have a dog that stays there that LOVES playing fetch with ice cubes. Not a ton of beer on tap, but it has a decent variety at a good price. Great place to knock back beer -- they have an excellent selection of bottled craft brews as well as the traditional Utah tap beers. Great space too, with good cheap pool tables and a fine jukebox. Staff is super-friendly, and there's a rocker-chick bartender who makes an unusually good martini for Utah. There's usually a table open because the bar is still kind of an undiscovered gem. This place is dope, no joke. It's clean and roomy and dim which I love. I didn't feel the need to take a shower afterwards. It was odd because there was a dog there but from what I understand he was only there cuz it was a slower night and the owner or bartender or whomever is a really lonely person...I guess. Also all the decor is kind of dated but not run down, which I kind of liked. Everyone who works there is awesome, and the pool tables are plenty far enough away from each other that it never seems cramped and you don't have to worry about bending over to take a shot and getting hit in the anus with a pool stick by the guy on the next table over. I was there on an odd night and there was really nobody there, but after reading some of these reviews that doesn't seem too surprising, but if you're the type to bring your own party with you then you can all meet up at The Spot and get it popping, its definitely one of the better places. read more
