Came here for an oil change. Car has never had a leak in 15 years. 1 hours after the oil change my car had multiple leaks. I took it to another mechanic and he showed me where the radiator hose was cut with a knife. He said the leak was coolant and my engine had overheated driving for 10 minutes to him from Citgo. He said because of this, the head gaskets are blown and it will cost $8,000 to fix. All of this because I wanted an oil change. Never take your car here. read more

I've been going to John at Westbard Citgo for years. I used to say he had fair prices and did good work. Not anymore. Ever since he merged with his brother Jimmy he's been taking advantage, recommending work that doesn't need to be done and charging outrageous Millennial prices. Jan. visit - 2011 Hyundai, asked check for any water damage and minor front right brake noise. Diagnosed no problems, but "found" it needed $1,200 in engine mounts all around. Still has minor noise. After my last visit I'm certain this was unnecessary work and a huge charge for an old car. Aug. visit - same old 2011 Hyundai, asked for an oil change and check again for minor front right brake noise. This time he found $2,100 for two calipers, 1 disk rotor, and some fluids. Now I know I'm being taken. I went in to complain. John said it needed the work and he charges wholesale for parts, meaning he doesn't take any margin, that's bologna. For an old car and a minor front right brake noise, John charged me $3,300!!! Blue Book value ~$11,000. See my point? read more

I have been going to Westbard Citgo for 20 years. That ends today. After 40k miles on my original brakes, they replaced pads and rotors 25k ago. Now I need new ones. I agreed, on the phone, to an oil change, which they confirmed, but not the brake work which they also confirmed. I just picked up my car, and they proceeded with the brake work, against my wishes. Disappointment twice today. Done. Never again. read more

I've now had two experiences here. One was pretty decent and the other one really not so much. The first time, I showed up, I dropped the car off for an oil change. I spent a bit more than an hour at the Starbucks across the street and I came back to a car that had an oil change and full windshield wiper fluid. The second time was much more annoying. I called on Saturday to ask if I could make an appointment on Monday. They said they didn't take appointments, but it was first-come-first-serve and they opened at 8. I asked if I showed up a bit before 8 if it would be done a bit after 9 and they said yes. I showed up at 7:40 to find that my car was 3rd or 4th in line and they said it would be 2-3 hours before the car would be ready. This really sucked since I had planned to overlap the oil change with an appointment I had nearby and so hadn't brought a laptop or any other plan for what to do for the extra time. To make matters worse, after my appointment, I asked them for an estimate of time because if it was longer than an hour, I was probably going to get a Lyft and just keep going with my day. They said it wouldn't, so I stayed. It wound up being another 90 minutes. The result was that I couldn't make it work in time for a meeting and had to work the day from home so I could take it over video conference. Just for good measure, they also replaced my windshield wipers without asking and charged me for them. I guess I've learned my lesson and should be ready to wait for ~3 hours and should be ready to argue about what they charge me for. read more

Came in for broken power window. Was charged more than double the retail value for the part, with no explanation. Aftermarket (non-manufacturer) part was used for the repair. Part can be purchased at retail from any auto parts shop for $75-$85. Westbard charged me $190 for the part. The full retail price for the manufacturer's original part, if bought from the dealer at the parts counter, was just $150. So $190 seems like an unfair price. When I pointed this out to the ownership, I was told "you approved the estimate." My mistake. I didn't realize I had to check each part to be sure the mark-up was reasonable. Avoid. read more

I have found this to be a nice service center for routine maintenance needs. The turnaround time for such tasks seems quite reasonable and the staff is always friendly. A nice little perk is that their air pump is free of charge, so there's no need to dig around for quarters in your car (or the bottom of your purse) when you've got a low tire or two! read more

One of the worst places in Bethesda. I have lived here my entire life (42), and this week, the place, yet again, ruined our car. Bottomline, they cracked the oil pan due to a young inexperienced mechanic that was working on it for the first time. When we came for our car, there was yet another customer there also ticked off at how they blundered their simple oil change. I would have not gone there but it was so close and didn't have time. This is the fourth time that we have had major problems at this place, where the job was poorly done, or had to be redone. Simply stay away is my advice... read more

I don't currently have a car but when I had it, this was my go-to place for maintenance and repairs. $30 for an oil change - didn't have to make an appointment, which was nice. And unlike previous trips to Jiffy Lube, they didn't try to trick me into buying other things or claiming something else needed to be fixed on my car. My second time here was when my car started making terrible squeak noises. It turned out I needed new brakes for my car. Sigh. They were pretty quick about getting them replaced - I believe it was a little less than a week before my car was ready for pickup. If I had a car, this is where I would continue to go for services and I recommend them to anyone's car that needs fixin'. They are honest and fair and really friendly. How have I missed writing a Yelp review for Westbard Citgo until now? I feel terrible at the oversight. The people at Westbard Citgo do honest, good work. I've been bringing my car to them for over 8 years now, and in that time, they've (1) told me what I can do to keep my repair costs down; (2) they've always, always had my car done on time; and (3) at several points when they could have suggested expensive repairs and not knowing better, I would have just nodded, bit the bullet, and said yes, they instead suggested I try babying it along and see how long it can go before I need to have it done. Sometimes I needed to get it done within the month, but other times, my car is still going strong. Wonderful people, wonderful work, they get 5 stars from me and I'd award more if I could. read more

.40 cents more per gallon when i was in the self-service lane. You've got to be kidding me! There's no sign that says that it's .40 cents more anywhere near or at the self service lane. The person comes right after I'm done and asks if I want self service. No sir, I want a refund. He said no. 1) Put some accurate signs up, it's a gas station. 2) Follow your unwritten policies. 3) Worst customer service ever...it wasn't full service...but no serivice I got completely ripped off. read more

I had started to pump gas. Pump stopped almost right away. I figured it broke after giving me a gallon of gas. So I moved to the next pump. Attendant came out and said he was closed now because it was 8:30. When I said I was in the middle of pumping gas. He shrugged. Locked the door and walked off. read more

Thieves. Legitimate thieves. Westbard Citgo serviced my vehicle and determined that it was not worth the price of repair. I kept the vehicle there overnight until I could get it towed out the next day. I showed up the next day and a service tech named John decided it was perfectly acceptable to enter my locked vehicle and steal the all-weather floor mats. They gave the mats back after I asked about them, but behavior like this makes you seriously question the integrity of the entire establishment. Honest, quick, friendly auto repair! I've come here for big projects and small ones and have never left unhappy. Twice in the last three weeks I've come by on a Saturday and had little issues with my car fixed (replacing a headlight, screwing a cover in on the bottom of my car) right then and there while I was waiting for a fraction of what I thought it was going to cost. This service station is the BEST!! They always do good work at fair prices. Most important and very rare in this world is that they are incredibly honest and have integrity. I brought my car in recently after having been given a fraudulent diagnosis by an auto center. They confirmed my belief that the diagnosis was fraudulent. This is specific to the 5335 Westbard Citgo location. Gas prices are high, comparable for the area. Usually I only fill up here when I really need some gas. Today, however, I needed automotive service. Discovered a nail in my tire on Easter Sunday, and considered my options, as I didn't want to drive my car with the tire losing air all the way over to Temple Hills, MD, for my normal mechanic. I realized that I should be able to bring it to this location without too much worries. They were able to complete the tire repair within fifteen minutes of my arrival, and it was very inexpensive - just $20. The workers were very pleasant. read more

Love these guys and their partners at the Citgo at the end of the block. With my luck I'm at one of these locations pretty regularly with punctured tires. They never take the cash tips I offer - even when I'm extra generous on these super hot summer days. The HID bulbs my car takes are expensive, but they did the job for half the price the dealership quoted me! $30 for labor versus $158! They're pretty quick, and there's great AC blasting inside. read more

I've taken my car to Westbard Citgo for 5 years and have been satisfied will the service. Only once did I need to take it back (probably 1 out of 10 times!) and they were very responsive. I can't speak to the actual oil changing service I was supposed to get, because I never got it. I walk in Monday morning at 7am, and I called the day before telling them I'm going on vacation and need my oil changed. I fill out the form, and hand over my keys. I asked "30 minutes correct?", which is the time the guy said on the phone. He replied "No there are several cars ahead of you and we only have one mechanic." Completely understandable, but not when you literally called so that this situation would not happen. Anyways, after I explained that I called they insinuated that I was lying and purposely trying to get my car in front of the line. They rolled their eyes at me and one of them yelled in my face "It's not gonna happen DEAR." I was not rude, not did I raise my voice. They we're the ones to do that. To conclude, don't go to this one, go to the citgo down the street closer to Massachusetts ave. They won't yell at you there. read more

Fair and honest, originally assessed my car problem as being an alternator. A fair assessment given the conditions it was displaying but they realized it was just a battery and ended up just changing the battery and not doing any unnecessary work. read more

Wow. Incredibly rude. Because of positive reviews on my local listserv, I took my car here once before to have snow tires put on. The service was rude and I had to bring my car back because the tires were not balanced properly, but I decided to give them another try because the location is so convenient for me. My mistake. Both times I asked to be called when the work was finished. Both times, I eventually walked back over to find my car finished and my paperwork in a stack of others. No call, no apology, barely even acknowledgement of my presence when I asked if my car was ready. And it wasn't that they were busy; the two people in the office were playing computer games. The young guy who was called in to ring me up (because the guy playing Solitaire was too busy?) was at least not affirmatively rude, but I'm scratching my head over the positive reviews and can only assume that they came from people who had been bringing their cars here before the ownership changed hands. read more

I had just been in a car accident on a weekend on I-495 and they helped me confirm (at no cost, since there was no mechanic on site at the time) that the steam coming from under my hood was from my a/c and not my engine. These guys are wonderful. I just called with a flat tire in front of Beyda's, and within ten minutes, a guy was over with his tow truck. He inflated the tire enough that I could get to the station, then they had me patched and on my way within 3 minutes. What could have been a huge pain was as easy as can be because of their professionalism, promptness, and kindness. Total damage for all of this was $15. Wow!!!
