I have been going to River Road Auto for over 15 years and totally trust them with all of my cars' repairs. They provide outstanding service, from Bob and Danny to the cashier and mechanics. Buyer Beware. This business is either incompetent, dishonest or both. Before having my very old vehicle towed there, we agreed that their mechanic would evaluate and estimate total repair costs. I gave them all my contacts and we agreed that they would call me before proceeded if the total would go over $225. I heard nothing from them for nearly a week. When I called them, they said they had none of my contacts. Once again, they agreed to inform me before going over the $225 price. They said they were looking for an old and hard to locate part since the vehicle is old. Again, I heard nothing for a week. I called back and they said they finished the job and the total bill would be $1000. When I explained that we had agreed to talk before proceeding with any repair over $225. They apologized and agreed to reduce the bill by a couple hundred dollars. When I went to pick up the vehicle, they presented a bill for $937. When I asked why the bill was not $800 or below, they said the last "total price" did not include all parts and taxes. At the very least they are not capable of communicating with their own staff or with me. The complete screw up had nothing to do with auto repair skills but with indifferent, inept and inaccurate communications among their staff and with me. read more

These guys helped me with a few things and provide good customer/know how to converse. They keep things real. Some services are costly, but I haven't had to come back to them complaining about anything. My only issue was that the bolt to my oil drain pan was put on so tight that I couldn't take it off myself which made me have to come back to these guys. I was trying to avoid doing that so I can learn how to do it myself and save some time/money. I had to return all the stuff I bought to do it lol. read more

I have 2 cars. One of them needed to be repaired for an easy flat tire. The cost was $48.20 before taxes!!! (I paid around $25 with taxes in other shop in the area some months ago). The other needed service (oil and filter). The cost in this Liberty gas station in August 2021 was $93.71 before taxes, almost double than when the shop belonged to Valero in June 2021 $48.20 for a similar car. (see pictures). Then, if you think that more than $50 for a flat tire and more than $100 for a small (no diesel) car oil change is fair, this is your shop. No issues with cleaning, neither with time to do the jobs. WARNING!!! River Road Auto Service is a BAD place to take your car. I interacted with Danny, who seemed to be running the place. I took my Honda Pilot for a Maryland inspection without checking the cost, which runs between $50-$80. Not only Danny charged me $115 but he uncovered problems for over $$1,480!!! I have very good sensors for CROOKS so I felt I had to get a second opinion and went to another gas station and passed inspection immediately!! Granted, my brakes did need to be replaced but their labor cost for the brakes and rotors replacement was 60% lower than what Danny quoted. Buyer beware!! I'm not going there again!! Also, try to observe body language and gut feeling - I'm sure you'll get the same foul sensation I had when I talked to Danny. read more

Deducting two stars as the 12 month guarantee was non -existent and the work they did not so great after all. It was a complicated job. If all you need is a simple service or repair - fine. I will give them credit - they fabricated a part they could not find out of a screw driver handle and it did the job for me - but of course, then it ended up being the proverbial DoD $400 screwdriver. read more

Possibly a management change ... I took my car here last fall (2011) for a blocked AC vent and they didnt' attempt to charge me for other things. Today, however, I took it in for squeaky belts and an oil change and they call back saying they'd done a safety check and my suspension needs to be replaced. That's fine, maybe it does, I'll certainly get a 2nd opinion as he quoted me $2000, but his tone and manner were incredibly rude. He was mumbling, seemed annoyed when I asked him to repeat the parts ("it's the suspension ma'am" ... yeah, I heard you, I'd like to hear again how you break that down and got 2000 out of it). We were selling our car and the potential owners took it to River Road Auto SErvice for inspection. THey failed it. WE took it to the dealer who said that there was no reason it should have failed. Three inspectors looked at it at the dealer. THe service manager called River Road Auto and explained their findings. THe owner refused to listen. Refused to relook at the car and refused to pass the car. So we paid for the dealer to do the inspection and it passed with flying colors. That guy is a rip off artist. Beware. read more

I'm surprised that so many people had negative experiences here, but perhaps there has been a change since the last reviews in 2012! I came here to get an inspection before heading to the MVA to get my title/registration/etc dealt with. As a young woman, I usually get treated like an idiot at these kind of places. These guys never talked down to me, they asked me questions and if I couldn't answer them they didn't treat me like I was stupid, they simply showed me how to find the answer. They were friendly, professional, and fast- my inspection was done before I was even finished getting groceries next door (great locaiton, by the way) Will be reccomending these guys to all of my friends and coming here again for service! read more

Price gauging the Chevy Chase locals seems to be this business' MO. Took my vehicle to be inspected (charged over 100) to tell me that I needed a slew of repairs totaling 2400 bucks. Took the car to my buddy in Rockville who fixed the car with the replacement of a simple vacuum tube. Price 75 bucks, including 30 dollar part. I am sure these guys will fix your car just fine, just be prepared to be overcharged like hell. read more

One of their pump's automatic shut-off's was broken. They were aware of this, but did not put the pump out of order. An extra 6 gallons of gas spilled out before I noticed which is horrible for the environment and incredibly unsafe. Did not put the pump out of order after I drew their attention to the matter, and screamed at me that this was my fault because it was "self-serve" to the point where I felt unsafe and even had to get the police on the phone . Essentially had to pay an extra $25 for gas that just went into the street (an impermeable surface). Was covered in gas, and it ate through my shoes. Horrible experience. read more

RIver Road has served my aging car several times! They have always been honest and up front about what needed attention and what could wait! The car was ready when they said it would be ready. In addition, during that fateful day in January 2010 when I had a 6 hour commute from Bethesda to Silver Spring, my car died on Wisconsin Avenue. I managed to get a ride home but River Road Auto towed my car from there to their shop by 9:00 a.m. the next morning. They have always been honest and flexible with me and my family! My windshield wipers curiously stopped working after having the guys at Getty's perform a Maryland inspection upon my car. I do not trust these guys and will never do business with them again. I have received two Maryland inspections from them over the past four months. I had to have my car inspected a second time because I was going to replace a tire myself but never got around to it. I was surprised that when they performed my second inspection they found another seven hundred dollars worth of maintenance that was needed. My car has been running seemingly in the same condition since my last inspection. After learning this I had a hard time trusting their word. I just don't believe that three major problems can occur during such a short period of time. I was considering giving them the benefit of the doubt until I got into my car and found that the windshield wipers, which had worked the day before, were completely not working. I don't trust these guys. I also did not appreciate getting yelled at by the mechanic who had performed the inspection. I went back in to complain about my wipers and had one of the mechanics react defensively and angrily with me. I have never been to a business that allows their employees to yell at the customers. I was told by one of the managers that I should be able to understand that his mechanic got upset because it seemed that I was accusing him of sabotaging the car. I was not accusing him of anything, I was just, I think justifiably upset that my car was running better before I brought it into their shop. read more

Wow! first off, I towed my vehicle to this shop because, it was close to the location I was and seemed like a clean looking shop. First mistake, Do not judge a book by its cover. I dropped the car off and let Danny know what the problem was. He said; let us check it out and we will let you know. I thought great seems like a nice guy. That was my second mistake. He called me the next day and said it would cost $510.00+tax to make the repair. I was at work and couldn't believe a locked ignition tumbler would ever cost that much so, I asked Danny to give me some time to make a decision. After 10 minutes of doing a little research of my own, I got a quote from the DEALERSHIP of what the maximum cost of this would be and they said, $170.00 for the part, $50.00 to code to my existing keys. Total W/ Parts and Labor $300.00 out the door. The Dealership said; It takes a couple minutes for an amateur to remove the cylinder and less than 30 seconds to pop it back in place. I've never done any mechanical work, I did it myself in less than 1 min. Pretty much, this was something any man, woman, or child could do. After, I told Danny what the dealership quoted me, he said I was getting a great deal. Great deal? That was a regular quote for anyone off the street. NO DEAL! Before the dealer told me how easy it was to put in, I asked Danny, how much to put it in if I got the part? He Replied "my hourly is $210 an hour, how about I take $50 off and put it in for $160.00 plus tax. So, first it is $510.00 . The bottom line is that this business must be robbing unsuspecting people blind everyday. read more
