Autobahn had me from day 1. Many years ago the gas cap on a 2000 Mercedes E320 was hard to remove. Dealer wanted to remove gas tank to fix the filler neck, Etc, cost nearly $400. Autobahn solved the issue with a different gas cap for $27. They are still caring for my Benz and its running great. They do great work on a timely basis at a fair price. 2005 AMG S430 I was skeptical when I first got the estimate to change my serpentine belt with alternator, water pump, belt tensioner, and coolant expansion tank. But they did a great job and the labor charge was fair with a complimentary oil change. I felt the parts were overpriced, but they do carry a warranty. If I wasn't towed in and had time to buy parts myself, it would have been a better experience. Overall, I highly recommend AMW for service on Mercedes out of warranty. read more

A wonderful technical staff is supported by a great shop manager who is responsive, understanding, and flexible within all budgets on all European vehicles. I have several German cars and trust nobody but Autobahn Motor Works to do so little as a tire pressure check, to so much as a full engine rebuild! My only regret is not bringing my cars to them sooner. Do yourself a favor and bring your car to an honest, straight shooting mechanic who you can trust. I had a set of winter tires + wheels ordered at tirerack.com shipped to Autobahn and the process went as smoothly as one could ask for. John was able to slot me in quickly and on short notice. Swapping out wheels is only a 20 minute low-price job, but if the good service that I got from such a trivial request is any indication, then I'm sure that Autobahn is a good bet for more complicated work. read more

These guys are complete jerks (I would use a stronger word here, but my review would likely be flagged). Avoid at all costs -- I wouldn't trust them with my electric toothbrush, let alone my car. I ordered mats for my BMW thru them, and left them there for a month and a half over the summer while I was moving, traveling and dealing with issues with my dog. When I went in to pick the mats up, they had returned the mats, refused to accept my payment, and aggressively berated me for not picking up the mats sooner. When I said I didn't want any drama, they told that if I didn't want any drama I should take my car elsewhere!!! They had a (beyond) horrible attitude to the point where I was very uncomfortable leaving my car there for fear that they would purposely mess with it. I've never experienced such poor customer treatment, and never seen grown men (or a business) act like this towards customers. I felt like I was back in high school. They may do OK work and know their stuff, but not worth the downside. Do yourself a favor and bring your car elsewhere (especially if you don't want to be threatened by someone when you are getting your car checked out). It will save you the headache! --- Update 7/29/17: Hadn't checked Yelp in a while, but I just saw John's comment and he is right. The rest of his employees are rather nice. I like the guys in the shop and have had a few good conversations with them in the past. My advice to them would be to go get a job elsewhere, like BMW Excluservice or a handful of other local shops that treat their customers (and likely their employees too) with more respect. The "Low Coolant Level" light came on in my car, so I drove about fifteen minutes in hopes of getting a coolant top off at Autobahn, which is a fairly quick service and takes no more than 15-20 minutes. Upon arrival, the guy at the front desk was extremely rude and lacked good customer service skills. I had to greet him first and even then he reluctantly said hello back. Told him what I needed. He asked a stupid question about whether I had my own supplies. If I did, I guess I wouldn't need to drive all the way to the shop, now would I? Nevertheless, I told him no and that I would pay for any supplies used. He was a jerk the entire time and I just ended up walking out. I drove to Bethesda from Washington, DC for nothing. Would give them zero stars if I could. These guys do not know how to run a business, clearly. I ended up stopping at a gas station up the street to have them put coolant in my vehicle which took all of 10-15 minutes and with way better customer service. read more

I lived in Bethesda for a year and Autobahn was right across the street from me. Very convenient. I had great interaction with everyone at the facility. The techs are super cool and laid back. The owner, Mr. John is super nice and expert on BMW. He's a very busy guy, his facility was always packed, he still found ways to squeeze my vehicle in for service. I had many large service performed, because I have a 16 year old BMW. Anyone who owns BMW knows they are quality engineered and also expensive at times but Mr. John was honest and thorough with me, wrote everything down, explained the problems, what to do, what not to do and offered the best recommendation. I've probably spent about $10k at least and my car is running like new. Everyone there is professional and respectful, sometimes you can shoot the breeze with them if they're not too busy. I moved to Fort Belvoir but I still take my BMW to Autobahn because the quality service is worth it. They also offer shuttle service locally, and if you live close enough like I used to, you can reach their facility by walking off of the Capital Crescent Trail across the River Rd footbridge. If you like incompetent mechanics who waste your money and never fix the problem, this is your place. I have taken my car to them four times. A few times for preventitive maintenance and a few times to fix issues. They have misdiagnosed every problem I have brought to them. They've burned me twice with both repairs costing over $1k. Each time, the real problem has later become apparent after causing more damage to my BMW which, of course, must then be fixed costing me even more. Avoid these bozos like the plague.
