George is an amazing guy. I was having issues with 1 of my cars and he took a look at it and fixed it with in the hour. He also does great body work. He repainted one of my doors fixed the dent and even fixed all the chips around my car and he even told me to comeback if I see anymore chips in the paint and he will fix it. This man goes the extra mile he even waited for me as they were closing and even wash my car before giving it back to me. I highly recommend this shop. Western Bryn Mawr Auto is absolutely fantastic. I highly recommend this auto shop to anyone living in Chicago. Two weeks after I moved to Chicago, I started experiencing some serious issues with my vehicle. The problem soon turned to an emergency as I was driving from Rogers Park to Lakeview. I had no choice but to stop in the first place I came to which, thank GOD was Western Bryn Mawr Auto. Turns out the idiot that replaced my break pads in Virginia FORGOT to put break pads on the passenger side of the car and a bit of damage had been done! I was terrified that I was going to have to spend a fortune to get this repaired but George, Sami, and Joe are incredibly fair and they fixed my car within 3 hours with no appointment. Sami even drove me to the nearest library so I didn't have to wait in their shop. After this experience, I knew I'd be back. A couple months later, I needed a tune-up and it turns out that old Virginia mechanic really was an idiot because the car needed nearly everything replaced. Once again, I was astounded by the fairness of the pricing. My car was ready extremely quickly and George actually picked me up at the school where I teach after dismissal and drove me back to the shop to settle the bill. These guys were great! I have an Infiniti G35 and didn't want to take the vehicle to the dealership because of their inflated prices. I needed an upper radiator hose repaired and took it to Western Bryn Mawr auto. Snow was in the forecast which later turned into a blizzard and these guys drove all the way to the northern suburbs in order to pick up the part from the dealer. I felt that was beyond necessary and I really appreciated it. They replaced the part that day and it was very reasonable. A few weeks later I took the vehicle back for a different leak and they repaired it once again that day for $20. You can't beat that. I realized a few days later that the leak was not completely fixed because I was still leaking antifreeze. I brought it back to them a couple times before they figured it out, but they never charged me (which is what I expected from them). Stand up guys that get the job done, quickly, and economically. Within hours they had a part, fixed and a ride to and from their shop! Round two came up with the brakes almost 2 weeks later ------ and they fix it in 1 morning. I've been coming here for almost a decade - it's my first stop for anything car-related. Sammy is always friendly and upbeat, and he will call all over the city to make sure he finds you the best possible price for parts. The wait time is always reasonable, and while it's commonplace for mechanics to come back to you suggesting you need more service than you went in for, this only happened at Western Bryn Mawr once, and it was a genuine problem I was unaware of. This place is soooo dishonest! Was quoted $295 twice on the phone. I confirmed it by saying it back and made sure both times to ask that it included labor. I wrote down the price and even texted it to others asking for opinions. Today, I show up to get my car and they say they never said that and charge me $385!!! I declined to buy a part because it wouldn't have been a huge difference from what they charged for it. I would have bought the part and paid less if they had quoted me accurately! GO HERE FOR ALL YOUR CAR REPAIRS!!! I've been seeing these guys for quite some time now. First it was with my 2005 Dodge Neon. Routine maintenance here and there. Then I got a Toyota Yaris 2007 and have been seeing them for other odds and ends. My last visit to the shop just a couple days ago was to get my car ready to go on a trip to New York. The guys replaced my front brakes/rotors, replace my back brake shoes, replaced my serpentine belt, put air in my tires and refilled my washer fluid. Toyota quoted me in the $1200 ball park to have all those things repaired. The shop did it for around $400, give or take. They show you exactly what it is wrong with your car so you know you're not getting ripped off. Super friendly, great customer service. They go the extra mile to get you the best quality parts. Labor and parts are warrantied. So if you have any problems, you can bring it back with no problems. Go here. These guys are great! read more

There are good people working at Western Bryn Mawr Auto. My old Honda broke down this week, and I had to find a garage near my house. These guys were great. They offered to send someone to my house to push the car the two blocks to their shop (not necessary as I have AAA, but nice nonetheless). They had the diagnostic results to me within two hours, and it was bad news. They offered me a really good deal on an extensive repair (replacing the engine), but they also didn't push me to do it. Additionally, the guys in the garage left the engine open so they could show us exactly what was wrong with the car. (They seemed genuine, but it was nice not to have to just take their word for it.) They let me think about it for a day and, when I told them I had decided to get rid of my old car rather than fix it, they couldn't have been nicer about the whole thing. They offered to let me leave the car in their lot while I tried to find someone to take it away and, when I couldn't find a junkyard that would give me more than $50 for it, the owner of the shop bought my car from me at a fair price. You can tell that these guys really care about their customers. Every time I walked in, one of the guys was at the counter telling a customer how to save money on a repair, or how to do it themselves so they wouldn't have to pay for labor at the shop. The only reason I didn't give them five stars is that I didn't actually get any services there so I can't vouch for the quality of their work. However, we will be taking our other car in next week, so hopefully I will have good things to report on that front, too. read more

Brought my car in on a Wednesday and got it back the next day with all my needs met. Sami and George were completely transparent with their work and I was able to pass my emissions test which I had been rejected by twice before. DO NOT GO HERE! I brought my car here for brake work, the owner personally told me he would refill the coolant for free. The prices were pretty bad and not to mention they pointed out everything that supposedly needed to be fixed, which of course wasn't true especially for the brand new bearings I recently got. When it was time to pick the car up, he charged me for the coolant refill and when I asked the owner why, he said it took time to refill it. I didn't care about the charge too much but you should not tell the customer something when your not going to stick to your word. I told him that but he wouldn't take the charge off. I'm also questioning if he uses illegal work there. read more

Bad news was that my car hit a pothole at Western and Bryn Mawr, and I blew out a tire. Good news is that it was right near Western Bryn Mawr Auto. I pulled in and they sold me a great-priced used tire and had it installed within about 25 minutes. Super nice guys too. Great experience! read more

I've had two great experiences with this business. The first time, the car broke down fairly late at night. We saw a sign for a tow company in a parking lot near where we broke down that told us they'd be there in ten minutes. After waiting for fifteen minutes, we looked up another company, which ended up being Western Bryn Mawr Auto. They arrived to take our car 5 minutes later. The next day they checked out our car and called us with an estimate. The offered to hold the car for two days while we decided if we wanted them to repair it. My fiancee mainly dealt with them this time and she said that for once she didn't feel like the machanic was talking down to her or trying to dupe her because she was a woman. They explained things clearly and thoroughly so that she could make an educated decision. They managed to repair the broken axl head while saving our transmission, obviously saving us a lot of money. A few weeks ago, our car started shaking while we were driving, and then the check engine light came on. While getting the oil changed we had Jiffy Lube tell us what code was triggering the check engine light. Luckily, it turned out to be a cylinder misfire, which explained the shaking too. I took the car to another mechanic near us, and they insisted that they would have to run an $89 dollar diagnostic to confirm jiffy lube's diagnosis before they would do anything else. I went out to the car and called Western Bryn Mawr Auto, he said he wouldn't charge me more than $45 to look at the car. Turned out the wire to the spark plug had come loose--we didn't even need a new plug, and Sammy didn't try to sell us one we didn't need. He even cleared the check engine light--something he said normally costs $50--for free, and even told me if it happened again to check the plugs myself if the same thing happened again. All in all, a half hour passed between calling them from the car and driving away with my car working right again. They gave excellent service and all they asked was that we "keep them in mind for our future needs." Well, you got it guys. You're our mechanic now. read more

Once again Western and Bryn Mawr Auto repair helped me and got my 20 year old car running. I would hate to be the mechanic that fixes my car because my car is so old and am sure my car is hard to work on. Sami and George's mechanics are always nice, friendly and very respectful with me and I always walk away with a feeling like my job would have costed more had I gone to say a dealership. These are good neighborhood guys they always are more than fair with me and they keep my little ford in tip top shape for a 20 year old car. This time they did my break pads, rotors, tie rod, ball joint, 1 stud 2 calipers and an oil change. I am not going to say what I paid but asked around and everyone I asked guessed a much higher price than what these two brothers charged me. They are truly angels and are the best. Let me also add that my 20 year old car starts up like a brand new car in the cold weather and I really think it is because Sami and George's mechanics take such good care of my car. I bring it in every 3 months for an oil change and they look it over for me and make sure it is safe for me to drive. I am so thankful to them. read more

This shop has been my life-saver for years, and I have never been disappointed. My 2005 Toyota Corolla is getting to an age when it needs some attention from time to time. Sami and George are unfailingly professional, always do a great job in the amount of time they predict, and are more than fair in their pricing. They take time to explain what is happening, and they work to reduce the costs whenever possible, within the bounds of safety. I started going to Western Bryn Mawr with my very old Omni in about 1996. It had close to 200,000 miles on it and they extended its life considerably. I consulted Sami and George about what to buy when it came time. I've been very happy with my Toyota and quickly found that Western Bryn Mawr was dramatically less expensive and more thorough than the service department at the dealer. Also, they are simply very good guys, kind, and always respectful. As a woman with many years of experience with mechanics, I don't take this for granted. They drive me to the Brown line when I leave my car, unless they are impossibly swamped. Over the years I've seen and chatted with returning North Side customers of every race and ethnicity. Everyone appreciates Sami and George because they respect and appreciate their customers. I cannot rate this auto repair shop highly enough. How is it these guys only have one review? They are amazing. Let me now sing the praises of Sami the mechanic. A lovely part about living in Chicago--sometimes you come out of your house to discover your tires have been stolen. For me it was only the two that were curbside, the two streetside tires were just fine. Awesome. My insurance agent recommended I call these guys and they took such good care of me! They called around to find me new tires & rims at a super reasonable price, sent mechanics to my house to put them on so they wouldn't have to charge me for a tow into the shop, and then drove my car and me up to the shop so they could make sure there was no damage to my car from sitting lopsided on a concrete block for hours. They were quick, curteous, kept me informed every step of the way, and got me locking lug nuts to keep my tires from wandering off again. These guys are fantastic. read more

CON ARTISTS!!! I brought my car in for routine maintenance and they managed to do more damage than they did repairs. Their mechanics are all incompetent including the owner George who also couldn't figure out what his mechanic did to my car. The most pathetic part was when I went to pay and gave them my credit card he said it has to be paid in cash. They have VISA/MC signs everywhere and even a credit card machine on the counter. He said he wouldn't release my car unless I paid cash. I then picked up my phone and let him know I was calling the police and suddenly he said he would take my credit card. This is the worst service I have ever received!!! I've had a multitude of problems since bringing my car there. read more

NEVER GO THERE! Horrible mechanics, severely damaged my car and harassed me over the phone. I brought my car, 1997 Mercedes C230 which needed to get instrument cluster fixed. It took them more than a month to get it "fixed" My husband and I came to the shop few times and always it "was not ready, come back next week" I finally picked up the car and I saw my plastic dash board severely scratched, literally vandalized, as they tried to take out the cluster I guess with screwdriver or something like it. I pointed it to Sami and he said that he does not know what happened . Usually Sami spoke with his mechanics about my car in foreign language in front of me (I think Arabic) so I cannot understand that they are talking about. I went to other shops and asked for an estimate for the damaged dash board. They gave me written estimation of more than $2000.00!!!!. I politely tried to resolve this issues with Sami. He not only didn't apologize for the damages, oh, no!!!! They called me 3 times on the phone with threats , Sami and Mr. Budakh, the president, and they told that I damaged the dash board myself before I brought my car to the shop and they will charge me for "free parking" while I was not able to pick up my car due to delays with repair. Plus he said that they should charge me $925 for an "outside consultation" on damages while they charged ONLY $125.00! I asked to give me a written detailed description of repairs made and they refused it, too!!!! DO NOT TRUST THEM YOUR CAR!!!! And I agree with the previous review - most of its mechanics are Middle Eastern guys ( I am US ARMY disabled veteran, it is stated on my license plate, speaking about parking charges!) and they spoke Arabic in front of me all the time - maybe they vandalized my car on purpose? And I am wondering if they even have legal rights to work in USA? read more

Sami is cheap but so is the work. I went there for some time because of the lower prices, but what made me stop was when I notice the oil filter was not changed when I went for the oli+filter changes.. Initially I thought "ok, he forgot", went back, he gave a story of the person who worked on my car was "no good" so he had already fired him and apologized. I used to love them until they stole from me:( I had my bf psp in there and forgot to take it out and they took it:( they also stole the light inside my car and other parts I don't know what it's called. I am extremely disappointed. Oh they also broke my right side head light. Please be careful when you bring your car to them. Make sure you take all you belongings. These guys were recommended by a friend to have some repairs done on my car. The reviews online also looked promising. My parked car was hit by a drunk driver in the rear - all damage was to the rear. I originally had my car at another shop - Jersey Automative - who charged me incorrectly and for new parts when they used Used parts but that's another story. I took my car to Western Bryn Mawr to have some other things looked into. My car had started making a noise when I would drive and I couldn't tell where it was coming from. I had them replace the front bearings - non accident related. The noise improved. I ended up having to have them replace the back passenger bearing as well (the back driver bearing had already been replaced by Jersey Automotive - caused by the accident). Once Western Bryn Mawr replaced the back passenger bearing, the noise finally stopped. Yay right? WRONG. After these guys replaced my front bearings, my ABS and brake light then went on! I never had a problem with these lights before. Western Bryn Mawr is not an easy place to get to. Not near a highway, not near my house but like I said they were recommended so it was a HUGE pain bringing my car to these guys. Well, they told me the ABS light was on after they did the front bearings but that after I drove it for a few miles, the light should go off. NOPE! The lights remained on. It took me about a month to be able to bring my car back to them to have them look at the sensor again. They told me...all you do when you replace the bearing is unplug and then plug in the sensors - that the sensors could not have been from them replacing the bearings. They said it could be coincidental that they went bad. OR...ready for this...that it could be from the accident!!!!!!!!!! There was no damage to the front of my car from the accident!!! I'd had it with these guys and couldn't keep missing work to keep bringing my car back to them to have them not fix the problem they created. So, months later I finally was able to get my car into the Honda dealer....Honda tells me (AND shows me the sensor) that the ABS sensor was SEVERED!!!! And it HAD to have been from when the bearings were replaced! NOW I Am paying Honda to replace my sensors - at least the right one and they still need to look at the left one!! The sensors cost NINETY bucks for the part alone!!!!! Honda had to actually drill to get the sensor out! Who has time to fart around and bring their car all over creation and constantly back to the same shop who can't figure out the problem they created? This place is RIDICULOUS!! I will NEVER take my car anywhere other than a dealership for repairs even if costs more. The cost at a dealer is worth the headache and nightmare places like this give you. AVOID this place unless you want to end up with more costs and problems with your car!!! I am really disappointed with these guys because they are very nice and from what everyone said, honest. Learn from one person who has been fooled and do not go here. read more
