I laughed at the bad review someone wrote being upset that he couldn't just come in for an oil change at a very busy shop. Ed runs the shop and his personality is very quiet and it seems like he doesn't care but he does. I've been coming here for years after being treated poorly and having my time wasted from returning two or three times for the same repair at Runge's. Runge's did poor body shop work also. Friday afternoon I came out to my car having a semi flat, I thought I could make it to the Walmart where I work so they can check on it, well didn't get that far till something just told me to find something near and that's how I stumbled into Arya A-1. Ed was very polite and accommodating and made me feel assured they'd check and see the problem (I thought I had to wait longer as I had just walked in and they had other cars being worked on) but within a few minutes he patched it up and had my tire back up and running. Despite being very busy, this shop has always fixed my vehicle quickly and with no problems. I don't feel taken advantage of with the prices and I always feel like I'm getting good honest hard work done. They doesn't pressure me to get anything else done more than I need. Great place to take your car for repair! After making an appointment and dropping your car off, the owner communicates with you about the issues including urgent and what could wait. From there he let's you decide what work you want to have done and gives you an estimate of how long it will take, when your car will be ready and the cost. From my experience the work was done quickly and we were given a great price based on the amount of work that was done, parts and labor. I would highly recommend taking your car here. read more

Had a scary shimmy in the rear of my 2003 Jeep Liberty. Was having things checked out getting it ready for winter. Thought for sure it was going to be $1500 repair. Ed reassured me , he was hoping for the best. Left the car, he checked it out. I went to see the damage. Much to my surprise it turned out to be old, tired, worn rear control arms. I guess you're not supposed to ask if they do oil changes without calling ahead for an appointment, as I was told at the shop "this isn't Jiffy Lube," literally. I know people can have a bad day, and if you do such great work that you're very busy, good for you, but at least give a decent first impression to a potential new customer who didn't think to make an appointment to ask a local auto shop if they do oil changes rather than going to a Jiffy Lube. I just wanted to add on to the many reviews already posted. Ed is AMAZING and honest! I was able to drop off my car early and mentioned two issues I was concerned about. He gave me a call in just a couple of hours to let me know what he found and an estimate of cost. When I picked up my car, he showed me the parts he replaced and showed me how they work, which I appreciate. He assuaged my fears of the rattling noise I kept hearing and let me know that repairing it now would be unnecessary. Nobody likes having to repair things on their car, but Ed made it quick and painless. I would go out of my way to bring my car back here and would recommend Arya A-1 to everyone! As for the reviewer who complained about not being able to do a quickie oil change. Obviously you've never been to a mechanic before-- I would never dream of seeing a mechanic for ANY reason without scheduling an appointment. This was hands down my best experience w a shop ever. Beyond helpful! Great work! So pleasant, even when I was frustrated! Couldn't be any happier!!! My wallet was lost or stolen last week and I couldn't get the info necessary from my warranty company for repairs that were absolutely necessary for safety. So Ed (gorgeous eyes btw) very calmly asked for what info I did have, then took care of the rest w the warranty company. Laid out all the options for the things I needed done without any pressure and really worked w me on what I could do. Made things as convenient as possible for me! Ed and his team have the best auto shop I've ever been to. They're always fast to respond to calls, quick to get the work done, and do great work for good prices. Some of the awesome things they've done for me include: putting 2 people on the work on my car to get it done before closing so I wouldn't be without a car the next day, fixing a brake light they noticed was out after the rest of the work was a done and not charging me for it, and during the pandemic when I wasn't working (so wasn't driving my car) my brakes got rusty and squeaky. Ed was straight forward with me and said he could fix it now but if I wasn't going to be driving much for awhile I should just wait and replace them when I returned to work because they would probably get rusty again before then. I feel like most shops would have recommended replacing them and enjoyed the second payout when they got to do it again in a few months. But not Ed. He really looks out for his clients and their vehicles. read more

I am a woman. You may not care about this but given the fact that I have often felt like I was being looked down upon by mechanics and overcharged for services because I am girl matters greatly to me. Ed, the owner of the Arya A-1 Auto in Rogers Park does not care that I am girl. He does not treat me like I'm stupid because I know nothing about cars, he does not check me out or look at me in any lascivious sort of way (and neither do any of this workers), and he does not try to rip me off because he thinks I don't know any better. Ed is possibly the most honest mechanic you will ever meet and he does truly fantastic work. I have a 1995 Saturn that should have died three years ago but Ed has revived it and brought it back from the dead at least three times already. Seriously any other mechanic would probably have given up on it the last time it died but not Ed. Also, his prices are awesome. Getting cars fixed can be expensive but what I have always appreciated about Ed is that he will always, always give you a reasonable price and sometimes if you're lucky the price you pay maybe lower than the price he originally gave you. He will never try to up-sell you or convince you to do a service you don't need. He will always be honest with you and tell you what you need right now to get your car running and what can hold off and for how long. He will never try to pressure you or rush you into a decision. He will try to get you your car back as quickly as possible and if YOU ask he can recommend a cheap rental car company or a car wash place but I repeat he will never ever sell things to you that you don't need or clearly show no interest in. He will never recommend services from other vendors unless he believes them to be honest and to do quality work. He will explain what is wrong with your car and if you don't understand and you ask him to explain to you in a different way he will not make you feel like you are stupid but will take time to explain it to you in another way so you understand. He will try to come up with cheap alternatives but only so long as they do not compromise the quality of the work and will tell you if there are no cheap alternatives. He will never do a shitty job, will always show you your old parts, will listen to you if you say you can get a better price for parts online and let you buy them from somewhere else, and will get someone to drop you off at home if he will be working on your car for a while. He will always give you a call if something new comes up and will return your calls in a timely manner. I raved about Arya A-1 to my parents so much that after trying a gazzilion other mechanics (please keep in mind that my parents have lived in Chicago and the surrounding areas for almost 26 years) they finally listened to me and started bringing their cars to Ed. They drive over an hour from where they live because they appreciate his honesty, his work ethic, his prices but above all they appreciate the outstanding quality of his work. If you know nothing about cars, if you have ever been ripped off by a mechanic, or if you are looking for someone who really knows and loves his craft--please go to Arya A-1. Before I went there I kept feeling intimidated by mechanics or just felt uncomfortable around them or I would have the constant nagging feeling that they were ripping me off or being dishonest. I walked into Ed's shop preparing myself to feel the same way--to deal with the same BS and the same BS prices and ready to feel that feeling of powerlessness because I knew I didn't know that much about cars but I don;t feel like that at Arya A-1. It has been truly refreshing and cost saving to find a mechanic who is so honest, who really loves his work, and who really cares about the customer regardless of gender. It's hard to find a mechanic that does great work and makes you feel confortable--I'm just hope he never closes so that I never have to look for another one. read more

I went here based on the advice of a friend. He had a great experience with them, so I thought I'd give them a shot. It's a family owned business that just opened up, and I was really pleased with their service. They brought me in right away, without an appointment, and fixed exactly what was wrong with my car (a dented front panel that kept my driver door from opening, a broken reverse light, a bummed up license plate holder and a bent fender)...they did all of this right away and for only $50! They were really nice and helpful and apparently they only charge $20 for an oil change. I felt very at ease there, even though I'm a female that knows nothing about cars. If I could give this place a million stars, I totally would. Bare with me because this a kind of long story. But if you don't feel like reading this whole review than just know one thing...stop searching yelp right now and take your car here. I'm serious. Go. Now. I had my car fixed about three months ago and I'm just now getting around to writing this review. So Ed, if you're reading this I'm sorry! Anyway, I had a beyond horrible experience with McCormick auto shop in Skokie. I drive a stick shift, had my clutch replaced at McCormick after driving my car about 60,000 miles ish. The clutch that I received from McCormick lasted me 20,000 miles..no joke. It was unreal. I don'r ride my clutch and I know how to drive a stick pretty well, so there's no way I rode it all the way out. Turns out they forgot to complete a couple of crucial tasks that make the clutch actually last the appropriate amount of time. I took my car to Ed here and he was amazing. So honest, friendly, went the extra mile. Gave me a loner car for FREE (!) while he fixed my car. He even changed my headlights and gave me an oil change. I'm not a car enthusiast so he took the time to explain everything to me thoroughly so I knew what was going on. He called me every single day to give me an update on my car as well. Overall I think the job only took 2-3 days. And once I picked it up, he drove it around the block with me so I could see that everything was in working order. I even had a tiny little problem when I was leaving, I think my car was idling a little to low. They were just closing and I brought it back in and he fixed it in 10 minutes no problem. Its not everyday you find an honest car repair shop... but this is certainly it! My husband and I bring both of our cars here for service and repairs and have always had pleasant experiences. Service is quick and reliable. They do not try to upsell services or attempt to con you into receiving services which arent needed... they give their recommendations in a professional manner and explain what and why they need to fix certain things. Ed is hands down the best tech in the game. I literally only let him and his team work on my cars because I don't trust anyone else. I drive a Mercedes S63 AMG and if you know these cars they are very high tech and not easy to work on. It's a racing motor and a lot of shops will refuse to touch a car like mine. Ed took it in without hesitation. He has fixed and even reprogrammed computers in my car, sensors, even opened the whole motor to diagnose and do some work. Always goes above and beyond.
