I took my car here because it wouldn't pass the emissions test. Made appointment on Monday they didn't look at the car until Thursday. They charged me $ 575.00 labor no repairs were made. Continued to fail emissions test and other than being told to put more miles on to complete a drive cycle and out $ 575.00 nothing else in spite of their 100% pass guarantee. I took it to Factory Muffler on Central Park in Skokie. They got it to pass and don't charge you if they don't. They asked what work had been done I showed them the receipt with only a charge for labor. They said I'd been taken for a ride, not literally. $300.00 later and they took it thru the testing process for me and presented me with the pass certification. read more

Sought a quote via Yelp for suspension control arm replacement, 4-wheel alignment, and new rear brake pads and rotors for our 2017 Toyota Highlander last week. A recent inspection and estimate for the same work we'd received @ Toyota of Lincoln Park was in excess of $4K; a complete non-starter. Nate Hoffman @ Rockwell Auto Clinic reached out with pricing for the 3 tasks that was nearly half of what we'd been quoted @ Toyota of Lincoln Park; a complete starter and must-do. He even recommended that I avoid getting the alignment done @ Toyota, and postpone it until after the suspension work was done; sound advice that the service advisors @ Toyota of Lincoln Park did not provide. I dropped the car off on a late afternoon and retrieved it the following day with no issues whatsoever; the car now rides, steers, and brakes just as it did when new. Nate was knowledgeable, friendly, and professional, and we'd definitely return to Rockwell Auto Clinic for future work on our vehicle. read more

I would not recommend this auto repair shop. My son was quoted one price for the repair, and later told a completely different amount. Instead of acknowledging the poor communication, the owner became defensive and began yelling at both of us. That behavior was completely unacceptable and extremely unprofessional. We were told several times that someone would call back with pricing details, but no one ever did. I had to repeatedly call the shop myself just to get updates. On top of that, the job was not even completed properly. There was no apology for the price change, the lack of communication, or the yelling. We left feeling disrespected and taken advantage of. Unfortunately, I genuinely felt that if we were not African American, we may have been treated differently. No one should feel that way when doing business. At the end of the day, we felt disrespected and taken advantage of. Transparency, professionalism, and respect matter. Based on our experience, I would strongly encourage others to consider going elsewhere, even a dealership, where communication and customer service are handled appropriately. read more

They did a great job at setting expectations as far as timing goes and very straight forward about everything as well. I spent a few hours and $300 at Evanston McGrath Subaru to figure out why my 2014 Subaru Forester was blowing cold air out the passenger vents and warm out the driver vents. They indicated a leak in the condenser and a faulty compressor. Ok.... They gave me a price, and I was shocked at the amount based on the research I had done before I went. The parts and labor seemed to be doubled. (Check out my Yelp review of them) When I got home, I started looking for local repair shops in my area. I've used some of them before, but they are hit or miss when it comes to competent work. I ran across Rockwell Auto Clinic on Yelp, and while there are not a lot of reviews, they all were very positive. I called the shop and had a very informative conversation with Nate regarding the situation with my car. He gave me the impression that he knew what he was talking about regarding the A/C systems and fair pricing. Fast forward to yesterday, Nate only suggested what I actually needed and left it up to me to decide to do additional work. The price was right where I thought it should be and he finished the car this afternoon. The A/C works just great, and I am looking forward to no issues going forward. He warrantied the work for 1 year and the parts for 2 years. He said to just call if I ever have a problem. Nate and his team work on all domestic vehicles, so don't hesitate in calling him for information or advice. I think you will be very satisfied. One more thing.... Nate at Rockwell Auto Clinic is perhaps the most thoughtful helpful human I've ever had the pleasure to encounter. My husband and I were in Chicago visiting our son, Parked our diesel truck for the weekend and today when we were to leave we started having major trouble. RAC was closed (Sunday) but Nate texted me to find out the nature of our trouble, and helped steer us to Autozone for Diesel 911 additive as he felt sure our gas/oil tank had gelled up. He literally texted me for three hours as we went through the process of what to do, and we are now on the road home thanks to him. All on his day off!!! Got into a minor fender bender which in this case turned into blessing. People at Crash Champions (also great) recommended Nate & Al and I am so thankful. They are competent, friendly, reasonably priced, and go the extra mile. They did a complete overhaul on a 2010 Subaru Impreza and 2008 Jeep Commander and both are running like new. The Commander initially was diagnosed by the dealership with a transmission issue multiple times. We went to Nate and Al to get a second opinion and turns out it was the car computer/wiring which they fixed. The communication is amazing and they utilize tech to full advantage. They provided a digital inventory complete with pictures of the work that needed to be done which I thought was great. Auto text and emails in addition to phone updates make communication easy. Glad to have a regular mechanic who you can count on. They are close to a car rental company and have discounts so it makes it easy depending on how long you have to leave the car. read more

I have never felt overcharged by them, and I've never felt that they've tried to sell me something I didn't need. Their new location is really hard to find, so I suggest calling first.
