I've come to this place several times now, and while the meat is an excellent quality some of the staff is not knowledgeable or experienced. Have them show you the cuts before they package them up. I came to get two porterhouse stakes for 4 people, brought them home, and opened up the package, the steaks were thin and definitely not a portion for two. Luckily we had time to get two more, but they cook much better when they are thick. Next time my husband went to get 6 fillets of 7-8 oz each. When he arrived home the cuts were all different sizes and shapes, ranging from 10-6 oz. We were beyond annoyed. For the price, I expect excellent quality and service. read more

With a wide variety of marinades, sauces and butters to accomodate any vooking curiosities. The dude who assisted us was on the money, too! He cut things to exact portions with no weighing. Then he rounded off our visit with a taste of their slow-cooked prime rib. Amazing stuff! Now the real problems are outside the store. The streets are just a mess to navigate, and everyone around here parks like a Californian. I mean, literally just stop anywhere and call it a human right levels of entitlement. So unhappy. After polling multiple people looking for a skin-on pork loin, Western Daughters came highly recommended. I was especially interested because they're woman-owned. Spent $130 for a pork loin for a special recipe for grandma's last (probably) thanksgiving. They were super friendly via email and phone, took instructions for how we wanted the skin scored. Lines straight across about 1/2-to-1 cm apart. We picked it up today and got it home and noticed the skin is cut in diagonal lines about 1" apart. Tried calling over and over and over again, and they don't answer their phones, which wasn't a big deal because we only live 6 miles away, so I drove it back over here. I fully expected them to tell me they couldn't do anything to fix the issue regarding the fact that they cut the lines diagonally, but I expected them to at least help me out with cutting additional lines in. They won't. It's a health code thing. Huge bummer. Especially considering it's still in the vacuum pack. I spent $130 on this cut of meat. It's wrong. I could have picked up some cheap cut of meat and done this myself (but really no, I couldn't - I've never dealt with skin-on pork, I have no idea how deep to cut, I haven't had my knives sharpened in a while, I have no idea how to fix this... that's why I spent the extra and ordered from a real butcher). I spent $130 expecting it to be done per the order. Why spend the extra? Especially if they won't make it right. Don't waste your dollars if they're not going to stand behind their product and their work. read more

I cannot resist a speciality food shop so when I happened upon Western Daughters on a walk through the neighborhood I had no choice but to stop in. It's a tiny little shop that manages to keep lots of fun specialty foodie things in stock including spices, honey, nut butter, house-rendered lard, and even some produce like onions and potatoes to round out your farm-fresh protein if you're in a pinch. Among the delicious looking chicken and aged steak, they had some pork dumpling sausages in the case that caught my eye and I ended up picking up two of those to try. I didn't catch the name of the guy who helped me but he was great about answering my questions and giving me some recommendations on how to prepare the meat I'd just purchased. He also gave me a cup of warm bone broth on the house since they were closing soon, which was one of those simple customer service gestures that makes an impression. read more

The older you get the more you need to pay attention into what's going in your body. What used to take a night to recover from, will now take several. I read the recent reviews and decided to try this place anyway because, as many mentioned, the only alternative I know for dry aged beef is Whole Foods. We were hoping for something a little more local-feeling and we definitely found it here. First of all, the vibe in this butcher shop is everything you could hope for and more. SO many awesome products, superfoods, all the things you could need to make an amazing dinner (or any meal). The customer service was amazing, I didn't catch the name of the girl helping me but she was very informative, telling me exactly what ranch in Longmont my cut was from, plus offered to cut the meat until it was exactly the weight I wanted. She asked if I wanted the fat trimmed - and in my opinion, if you want it trimmed and you don't ask, that shouldn't be on them because it's not obvious to do so with this type of high quality meat. She also threw in a bit of marrow they had formed into a figurine which was over the top amazing + gave me an intro on how to best cook with it. Wow. Killer shop. I was visiting Denver for my first time and wanted to grill some steaks for me and a friend. We came home w two dry aged ribeyes that we're out of this world. Amazing fat content. I was feeling under the weather while visiting Denver and the fine folks at Western Daughter's helped me out on the phone and let me know they had fresh bone broth made and were serving it up by the cup or by the quart. So I jumped in an Uber from my hotel, had the driver wait and went inside for a quart of homemade bone broth, a few glass bottles of Topo Chico and a very friendly welcome to the shop. So to hear people complain of the price is baffling. High quality ETHICALLY sourced animals should be more expensive. And at $32/pound for a 32 day dry-aged ribeye? Not bad. The most I've ever paid for a ribeye per pound was $55 for some washugyu ribeye and can tell the quality in their ribeyes here. Points reward system too. Spend $200, $10 back. I usually buy my meat at Whole Foods when I'm lazy but man, I'll make the drive back here anytime for some steaks. My husband and I exclusively buy meat at Whole Foods but we were pleasantly surprised with some of the things we were able to find at this butcher shop - we picked up the pork sirloin steak (fatty bacon-y take on the average pork chop), turmeric carrot sausages, pork belly & brisket. The pork sirloin came out great simply grilled with oil, salt and pepper. The sausages were savory and unique in flavor. The brisket was perfectly smokey and the pork belly was the perfect cut! Staff is also friendly, helpful and knowledgeable on cuts and how to prepare. We will definitely be back and make this a regular Sunday butcher shop run! read more

I purchased some dry aged ribeyes for my Dad's 70th birthday, so he's had a lot of steaks in his lifetime, and he said without question this was the best steak he has ever had. When you decide to make everyone call the ONE phone line in the store to place an order when they are literally standing outside, people are going to get frustrated. When after 20+ calls you still haven't gotten anyone on the phone to place your order. You start to get upset. A friend recommended Western Daughters a few months ago (pre-pandemic), and now we're hooked. We live nearby and have been coming by every 2-3 weeks! Our typical order includes some sausages (the breakfast sausages are good, and so are the hot italian - plus they're all made in house!), and different cuts of beef and/or pork that we've thrown on the grill, on the stove, in the oven and slow-cooked. When in doubt, I just ask whoever's helping me that day for suggestions and they have plenty of tips & tricks to share! We've also tried their chicken (amazingly fresh, also surprisingly large for 2 people to finish), eggs, produce and bread. And, I recently found they have frozen bolognese next to the frozen stock cubes! I'm always impressed by what I find there (like duck eggs!), and can't wait to try more (like the marrow cubes I've been eyeing for a while). Like other reviewers have said, Western Daughters is pricier than a conventional grocery store or upscale supermarket, which is why I'm not here every day or even every week. IMO, you can definitely taste the difference in the quality of their product so it's worth it if you can afford it, and I personally value that it's all locally & humanely sourced, too. I want to support local farmers and ranchers, so for me it's a no brainer to work a trip to WD into my grocery budget in lieu of other things. If you're budget conscious, I'd still suggest checking them out and trying one of their boxes (order online and they deliver or you can pick up), which are actually a really good value in terms of cost per pound & quality, OR going earlier in the day so you have more choices. I've found that they're usually busiest in the late afternoon (a line out the door/around the back since only 2 people can shop at a time), and that if you wait until right before closing time, they might be sold out of the cuts you want! read more

The meat was marbled well and not "sticky" like you find with King Soopers or other grocery market meats. It made for nice and juicy burgers. I custom ordered an aged New York strip steak over the phone. They told me they had 90 day for $45 a pound. I said great I would like 1 steak between 1.25 - 1.33 lbs for 2 people to share. I asked if they trim the fat off the steak and they told me that they would trim it very neatly. You can see in the pictures that the steak is all untrimed fat.
