Looking for a local butcher who supports their community and offers a great selection of meats along with ice cream, produce, eggs, cheese curds (YAY), and even in house made raw dog food? Wheat Ridge Poultry and Meats is your local connection. We visited a few weeks ago and went in separately with our masks. Forgot yours? They offered masks and antibacterial disinfectant right at the door. So thoughtful! The staff were great and super helpful. They offer everything at reasonable prices and had a few things (like jalapeno seasoned bacon, hatch chili bacon and keto bacon, ya'll) that we'll be back for again and again. They offer fresh eggs and source most, if not all of their meats and produce locally. They work with local farmers and ranchers who treat their animals humanely, grow organic produce and don't use antibiotics, hormones and GMOs (check out their website for more details). Ice cream - they're sporting Little Man ice cream flavors and the cheese curds are also local - Cream City Cheese Curds. And.... Wagu NY Strip on sale and, maybe the best steak I've ever had in my life, absolutely delicious, tender, juicy and it was on sale! So we went back to get more and sadly sold out but, bought some more of those delicious dogs and because they're also out of Hatch bacon (apparently a Hatch chilis shortage?) I got the peppered version and, yeah that's amazing as well. As always a super helpful friendly butcher every time. read more

I've shopped here several times, particularly when needing a cut of meat or game meat that isn't often sold elsewhere. My last trip was a few days ago to get a brisket. They were out of a lot of stuff, looked like they were trying to clear out for the holidays. I did notice a pretty strong smell, but it wasn't anything I was concerned about. Brisket was perfect for my southwestern style brisket tacos. They trimmed it for me, which was nice. The people who work there have always been nice to me, asking me about how I'm going to cook stuff and offering suggestions. Great place to get meat, poultry, and eggs. Being a typical consumer, I have seen all kinds of businesses, good, bad and indifferent. We were buying thousands of dollars of food from this establishment and I have to say, most people there were not very friendly. Unfortunately, that isn't referring to the average lower wage worker, I am referring to management and owners. It is sad to say that across the board they were very rude, cold and unprofessional human beings. It didnt matter that I was giving them thousands of dollars in business and being loyal to them. I suppose its safe to buy some things for them, but 100% DO NOT EXPECT THEM TO CARE ABOUT YOU ALONG THE WAY. Other establishments deserve your time and business, not this one. read more

This meat shop is amazing. They have fresh eggs, several kinds of beef jerky, steaks, stew meat, buffalo, chicken of all varieties, frozen meatloaves, seasoned meats, and specialty sausages! I was incredibly impressed with the local honey and fresh rolls on the counter. It's clean and simple, reminding me of the old butcher counter at the family run grocery store near my house growing up. The prices rival your mega-super-grocery store, but the quality is far superior. The red meat is perfectly marbled, the chicken pink and firm and homemade bacon cut to order. If all this isn't enough, they have dog food for those that feed their dogs raw food. The bones are ground in just like they ought to be. They profess to raise their own chickens and turkeys and feed them grain only! The service is friendly, patient and informative. They also process big game for hunters according to the signs. I'm not a hunter, but such a service seems rare enough to mention in passing. I'll be back again soon with my husband to let him have his choice of steaks for grilling and for some cheddar jalapeno bratwurst as well! read more

Stopped by today to pick up the Turkey I ordered a month ago, in the best mood because my mom is in town! She was taking a bit longer to text me what she wanted for dinner (she's 74) and I asked for an order of chicken with the Turkey. An old white man literally screamed "Really?" at me. He never asked "is this it?" so I didn't realize I was going to cause him a grave issue by ordering more from the butcher. I wish I could say he was kidding or had a sense of humor. He was really a jerk and thanks to our butcher across town who delivers to us at our home because we're such good customers, happy to say this butcher has lost my business for good. Really? Learn how to speak to a lady, sir. And happy holidays to you too, the man who said not a word as I left with the Turkey. Boooooooooo- local businesses should do better. read more

What a superb spot in Wheat Ridge! I've lived around the corner from this place for almost 4 years, and have only recently become a regular. If you stopped in here a while back and have been reluctant to return, let me catch you up. The level of their service had gotten a lot better and they do a great job of handling the bigger crowds since their exposure has increased. The quality of their meat is improving. They are carrying more natural options and their prices are as great as they have always been. More products! Last time I went in, they had lamb legs, king crab legs, trout, salmon and more! They are branching out. Since Heavenly Harvest went in next door, both companies have done a great job with adding ice cream, yogurt, dairy products and bread and buns. Thanks to their expansion and the produce place next door this is where I am able to do most of my shopping. Give them a try and support a local business! read more

We happened upon this place about 6 weeks ago, and I think we've been back once a week since. They have a great selection of pork, chicken, beef and even fish. And they always have the typically elusive hanger steak. It's become a once a week dinner for us. They have both fresh and frozen meat options, as well as some milk, eggs and produce. The prices are beyond reasonable, and the service is friendly. They're almost always busy on the weekend days when we visit. Even though we recently moved further away, it's well worth the trip to Wheat Ridge to buy our meat. read more

2 Stars is a blended review of the product and the service. Product - 3 stars I was satisfied with the chicken breast, pork tenderloin and ground lamb I purchased. It was fresh and tasted better than supermarket meat. Service - 1 star When I go to a specialty store (butcher, fishmonger, cheese shop, wine shop), I like to learn about the products they are selling. I like it when the store employees and owners are excited to talk about their products and help educate their customers. This did not happen at Wheat Ridge Poultry. I had already rung up and paid for my selection, and wanted to ask questions for future purchases. I asked two questions and received abrupt, rude responses that basically showed they thought I was stupid for asking. Another customer asked a question about one of the sausage varieties and he received a similar condescending answer. The shop wasn't overly busy, so it's not like we were keeping other customers waiting. I will not be returning to this shop because of how I was treated. If you're looking to become a better-educated consumer of meat, I recommend looking at Western Daughters, Edwards or Olivers. Each of those shops are much more willing to engage their customers in meaningful dialog. read more

One of the best meat markets around denver, hands down. Their bone-in ribeye has to be one of their best cuts. They serve meat from locally owned markets, and can inform you on where every piece of meat comes from. I'd never heard this great butcher in a totally unassuming strip mall before, until moving about 2 blocks away a couple months ago. Since that time, I have never picked up meat at a supermarket. Seriously, this is now my only source for meat and eggs, and I intend to keep it that way. The most perfectly marbled rib eye I've ever purchased, for what would equal a sale price at the supermarket? Check. Fresh, and I mean FRESH eggs, the likes of which I've never found anywhere else in Denver? Double check. Natural, un-"plumped" pork, fresh butchered chickens, frozen elk loin steaks? Check, check and triple check. They also have milk and orange juice in returnable glass bottles, which only adds to the throwback charm. I had a big housewarming party and got a ton of brats from here. They were hands down the best brats I've ever purchased. People were raving about them for days afterward. They were honestly about 1/2 the price of lower quality brats from the supermarkets. In fact, the prices on everything are really fantastic. I love this place! It is really small but packed full of the things you need for a great dinner :) The service is great. I have been here about three times in the past 10 days or so and Every time everyone that works here was very nice and in a good mood. I love to see people enjoying their jobs :) The meats are priced great and so good! They have a few dairy items. You can even buy a stick of butter for .99. "You'll be back," the woman behind the counter confidently asserted as I made my way out of Wheat Ridge Poultry and Meat. She was right. On my first trip to this unassuming little butcher shop on 29th Ave. I bought lamb sirloin, beef sirloin, chicken legs, and turkey snack sticks. Everything was outstanding. I didn't expect meat from here to taste so much better than what I get at the grocery store but somehow...? It does. The lamb steaks were buttery-melt-in-your-mouth tender and the flavor of the beef was rich and delicious. I have also developed a turkey snack stick habit. Just writing about it has made my mouth water and now I am debating whether to eat the last, savory, spicy snack stick that is lingering in the side door or the fridge or to wait and save it until later. This place is so good, I'm actually going to curse in my yelp. It's SO FUCKING AMAZING. I went in there today needing some inspiration for dinner. I was greeted by a table of Hostess products and a basket of Chocodiles on the case. Yep, that's right. CHOCODILES. Those are nearly impossible to acquire in this state. And for those Chocodilephiles such as my husband, you now have a source in WRPM. 4 for $1!!!! That's insane. When I try to buy them online for my hubband, they cost $9 or $10/box, which is ridiculous and stupid. AND the owner told me he'll order them for me, which is so fantastic I can't even tell you. I bought all they had (51) and would gladly do so again. As for meat, their meat is extremely fresh and tasty. Their prices are equal to (or less than) the grocery store but the quality is SO much higher and the meat is fresher! Plus, they have dog bones, which my Ham loves! Homemade brats, sausages, jerky, dairy products, lamb....I don't come here often, but every time I do I am blown away by the quality, price, and customer service. I think I'll start doing the bulk of my meat shopping here, since my work is just down the street. Fantastic! read more

I didn't realize how hard it was to find bison steaks in Colorado until my local meat market was closed on the day I needed them for a camping trip. Luckily, I found this place. Their meat is fresh, tasty and the price is right! We got five half pound bison rib eye steaks for a little over $32. That is a steal! Thawed them out and threw them on the campfire grill for a few mins on each side and BAM! We had a gourmet meal. Service is also great. The people who work here know what they're doing for sure. Will never call on them again. My wife and I were planning a Turducken dinner for 20 people. I called around to butchers to see who could supply the de-boned birds so we could assemble it ourselves and got a decent price quote from WRP&M. They required a week lead time which I accommodated. I even called back to insure everything was good to go and was told the butcher has been doing this for 15 or whatever years and it was no problem. I call on the day I was meant to pick it up (2 days before the party) and it was like they never heard of the order or had forgot about it. Then, talking to the butcher, it was like he had never prepared birds for a turducken and wasn't able to even do it. Luckily, I was able to line up the birds from Oliver's Meat Market last second. I don't know why I didn't just use them in the first place. I called WRP&M back to cancel the order and it was like they could care less. Same attitude I got from the owner when placing the order. Maybe they have regulars in the area and can rely on that, but it really seems that they could care less about customer service. read more
