    Wagu NY Strip, amazing
    D W.

Wagu NY Strip on sale and, maybe the best steak I've ever had in my life, absolutely delicious, tender, juicy and it was on sale! So we went back to get more and sadly sold out but, bought some more of those delicious dogs and because they're also out of Hatch bacon (apparently a Hatch chilis shortage?) I got the peppered version and, yeah that's amazing as well. As always a super helpful friendly butcher every time.

Brisket was perfect for the tacos!

I've shopped here several times, particularly when needing a cut of meat or game meat that isn't often sold elsewhere. My last trip was a few days ago to get a brisket. They were out of a lot of stuff, looked like they were trying to clear out for the holidays. I did notice a pretty strong smell, but it wasn't anything I was concerned about. Brisket was perfect for my southwestern style brisket tacos. They trimmed it for me, which was nice. The people who work there have always been nice to me, asking me about how I'm going to cook stuff and offering suggestions. Great place to get meat, poultry, and eggs. I guess they also sell pie and ice cream!

Great local meat shop with friendly staff and local food. Highly recommend their pork steak or special bacon.

If you don't get it right, they may not process your game. Read the website...carefully. Make an appointment. Then read the website again. If you have questions, good luck, Steve's did not answer the phone or return voice mail. So read the website -- every page as there is a tidbit of important info you need to know and it is spread out. Once you get your meat processed, they dictate the day and a two hour window for pickup -- if you fail to get it, they start charging a storage fee immediately. So once I thought I understood the rules, I dropped off my elk, I felt pressured to make decisions about what I wanted - Steve's is busy during hunting season and showed little patience to answer questions about the various products and what they could do. So I made some hasty decisions on processing, waited till my pick-up day/time and went back to the market. The payment process was smooth. From what I can see Steve's prepared everything exactly as I requested. Perfect. They appear to be experts in wild game processing, have demand and they appear to have a following. Now that I better understand some of their rules/procedures, the next time should go smoother. So I am impressed with the product, but their customer interface could use some more attention.

I'm not a native but I got this tip from a native - her family has been coming here for decades to get their box of green chilis annually. It sometimes can be hit or miss if you come later in the day, they could sell out on popular, in-season produce. I love their garlic bulb braids, get the one that has slightly purple tint on them, they are garlicky spicy and last a long time - perfect for the grill then smeared on toasty bread. I also have gotten delicious Hinman Pie in their freezer section, gazillion flavors of cheese curds, lots of local pickled food and delicious hot sauces. Service has always been great if I didn't know how to pick a type of produce - I'd get my questions answered. Love all the local items and non local items will be labeled as well. Overall just a great place to come check out while supporting local business. Stop by Edward's Meats before or after Heinie's for meal prepping too. Oh btw Heinie's also do Fall Pumpkins set up for photo ops too if you have little ones. Come get a pumpkin and take some photos, and pick up some produce while you're at it!

The ownership strives to provide excellent service to the big game hunting community. I confirmed that the animal dropped off is the one I take home and not going into a community of product. The yield was shockingly low for a healthy deer--something felt off, but we chalked it up as a fluke and moved on. Fast forward to this year, and we gave Meat Cleaver a chance at redemption. Big mistake. We specifically requested the entire deer be made into jerky meat. What we got instead? Only 12 lbs of jerky, and the rest turned into burger without approval. That is not what was asked for, and not what we paid for. After raising the issue, they "made it right" by donating 10 lbs of jerky back to us, which honestly just felt like damage control rather than accountability. At that point, the trust was already gone. To be fair, the front office staff is polite and accommodating, and communication was friendly. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. When it comes to the actual product--the meat processing itself--it's just not good. If you can't follow clear instructions or deliver consistent yields, then it doesn't matter how nice the front desk is. 22 lbs of meat off a deer that is well over 200 lbs is inexcusable.
