We were in town for a volleyball tournament and wanted to get dinner. This place was super close to the hotel and we love to try hometown diners and buffets. The decor is very outdated but that was ok. It was a bit confusing at first. We were told to go down this line and then we paid but you could order main things separately. We went and picked out where to sit. Our waiter was nice. They bring you four plates and 1 bowl. We found this very odd for a buffet. We had to sit and wait for our plates and quite some time for our waters. Our utensils were not clean. The buffet was little to be desired. It is definitely southern influenced , which is great, but the food was often over cooked and very bland. The fried chicken was ok, but you could tell it was fried in the same oil as the fish. The cleanliness of the buffet was not ideal and the selection was minimal. Definitely do not recommend for picky eaters or children, there is not a variety for different palates. We very quickly realized why the buffet was so inexpensive. Perhaps the made to order food is better. Bathrooms were clean. We are in the area several times through the season but we won't go back. It really just needs a facelift. read more

I had a very disappointing and concerning visit to Western Sizzlin in Rocky Mount, NC. While preparing a salad, I noticed two dead flies in the fruit section of the salad bar--an obvious health violation. The floors throughout the restaurant were dangerously slippery, and the rugs looked filthy and poorly maintained. I showed a picture of the flies to a young staff member, expecting some concern or at least an apology. Instead, she casually remarked, "That's why I don't eat here. I don't see how anyone does." When I suggested she alert someone in charge, she simply looked away, handed me my receipt, and called for the next customer. This is not the type of person who should be representing any business, let alone one serving food to the public. Cleanliness, safety, and customer service are basic expectations. Unfortunately, none of these were met during my visit. I will not be returning--and I strongly urge management to address these serious issues immediately. read more

My wife ordered a chopped steak medium well and they burnt it so she got some gravy off of the bar rather than send it back to be recooked and the very rude waitress named Heather took it out of her hand without asking any questions. While driving home on a Sunday afternoon, I decided to get off the highway in Rocky Mount for lunch around 1 pm. I selected this restaurant, thinking I would take advantage of the buffet option. After getting into the serving line, I discovered that the buffet was ended during the pandemic, but oddly enough, a salad bar is still an option (at an additional cost). I went with the medium sirloin, fries, and salad bar. The salad bar was fair in a variety of salad choices. Was a bit lacking in the cold salad options. But the steak . . . There's a joke that says "Why didn't Hans Solo like his steak? Because it was Chewy." This steak did not please me for the same reason. It was cooked medium as I requested, but it was tough to chew. I certainly didn't expect a steak house level of quality here, but I did expect something better than what was served. Then there were the employees. The server was moderately ok in the performance of her duty. The employee taking orders was not pleasant nor welcoming. Finally, the cashier was absent for several minutes with multiple people lined up to make payment. When she began taking payment she frowned, ran my cc, and gave me the receipt to sign all without saying a word - not even an insincere thank you. As I left the business I noticed a roadside sign with the phrase "Good food, Great service." The sign needs to be removed for false advertising. read more

Definitely not the quality it used to be. I would definitely suggest ordering off the cook to order menu vs the buffet.

Everything was hot and delicious . I am going back to dine here with my beau. He loved it because of the home style taste.

Ordered a #9 steak and it was cooked just as ordered. Tasted great. Large baked potato was also good. Salad bar and buffet had plenty of options on them. Waitress was pleasant and kept checking by. Plenty of food for the price. read more

Western Sizzlin' in Rocky Mount, NC is NOT WORTH SHIT!! Over the last few months, if we call to place a takeout order, the phone would ring and ring. We would finally drive up there, place our order THEN HAVE TO WAIT ANOTHER 20 MINUTES! We were told the phone was out of order. Serveral times over 3 months. Did they ever think of having the PHONE FIXED?!?! Well, someone answered today! Then my wife was put on hold. For 30 minutes. Then I called on my phone. I was asked to wait because she had a customer. I waited 10 minutes before hanging up and writing this. Elizabeth is currently DRIVING TO WESTERN SIZZLIN' WHILE HER PHONE IS STILL ON HOLD!!! I get the ribeye at times, sometimes the New York Strip. Sometimes for lunch I get the beef tips with mushroom gravy or the Philly cheesesteak sandwich with fries. You wont find a better steak sandwich in Rocky Mount. All of their food is awesome along with their salad bar!!! All of the waitresses are awesome too!! read more

Not great service and the food was barely passable. We stopped on a Saturday night traveling home from OBX. The buffet was tiny and there was no room to move around it. I enjoyed my food! They were quick and the food was good. I ordered the sirloin and shrimp. Mind you, I initially wanted a shrimp bag from another place, but they didn't open for another 45 min and I was hungry now. I went in and even though the parking lot was full, I was able to go straight in and order. The waitress, was so nice and patient. She was very informative with the details of the additions to my order and the questions I had about them, with a genuine smile on her face, all while still being attentive to the front counter! This young lady had excellent customer service! She said it would take around 10-15 minutes and when I returned from my errand, about 12 minutes later, the food was done and ready for me to view before she placed the items in the bag. She asked me did I want all of the condiments and guess what?! I got all of the condiments. So, by the time I got home, I was so ready to eat, (I snuck a shrimp before putting the bag in the back seat). As I'm putting all of the condiments in the bag, I didn't see my onions! I called back, and the same staff member answered. She said replayed back how she packed the bag and what was in which container. She was not frustrated or annoyed and she stayed polite while trying to explain so I apologized and figured I had may have dropped them in the car. She was so nice and said it was ok and then I found them under the bag! Smh. Food was not good. Fried chicken was overcooked, pot roast was gelatinous, swedish meatballs were boiled( spongy), and the sausage looked like volcanic rock and had no flavor. Must have to earn a steak, never saw any of that. The mirrors were a nice touch, made the buffet look better than it truly is. Shoulda checked reviews first. Tonight I went out to eat with my boyfriend and his family. I was excited and hopeful that we would have a pleasant, delicious meal. I ordered the country styled steak, as I am a fan of some back home country cooking. I was patiently waiting for my meal and when it was sat down in front of me, I noticed that my steak looked like a fat cow excrement. I decided to overlook this inconvenience and try the food. As I sank my teeth into this overly fried dung, water shot out across the table. I'm convinced that I have never experienced such a disgusting taste in my mouth as this. I was so appalled that I just decided to go get some ice cream. While over at the machine, I looked over at the chocolate pudding to notice that about 10 flies had inhabited the gooey dessert. We have had our ups and downs with service there, but we still gave the place another chance, to find that the prices have all gone up..not by just a little bit, but wayyy up. So disappointed in Western Sizzlin. My husband and I went last night around 7:45 pm. Granted the sign states they would be closing at 8:00 pm. First thing the girl taking the order asked us to put a mask on. I have no problem with that except for the fact hers was pulled down below her chin and none of the cooks in the kitchen were wearing a mask. Waitress was very friendly. At about 8:00, the cashier came over and asked us to pay so they could close out the register...what??? My husband politely told her we would pay on the way out. The entire time we were eating, the staff were stacking chairs on top of the tables. I realize they close at 8:00 and we were cutting it close but they should put "stop servicing at 7:30 and close at 8:00." We were not the only ones in the restaurant and I heard others complaining. I have not been there in some time now as we moved to the Raleigh area. What I have missed! The food is the best...far and away the best Steakhouse I have been to. And what you pay for the meal there versus the other chains, you will be pleasantly surprised. I don't get a chance to get back to Rocky Mount very often but when I do this is a MUST STOP!! I will NEVER eat at this restaurant again!!!! I fell and got hurt because of their neglect. The floor was so greasy you could fry chicken. The manager Dan Howell was very rude and not apologetic at all. He called me back AFTER my husband called him to complain about his poor customer service skills. He then acted halfway apologetic. Pretty good food...great fried chicken and grilled pork chops on the buffet....not the friendliest waitresses but no more than you see them....they can be ignored...steaks are good but very tough to get them right the first time particularly if you order your steak medium...they will fix them but the waitresses don't seem to happy about having to do so..... read more

Today I chose to dine with a family at Western Sizzlin 1041 N Wesleyan Blvd, Rocky Mount, NC. Service from our waitress started out fine. While at the buffet, making selections of what to eat, the bakery and bread row looked very poor. The biscuits were not fresh and there were very few of them as well as everything else (rolls, muffins, etc.) near it. There wasn't anyone working behind the bakery and bread section as they usually are. After noticing this, a manager was requested. I asked a nearby waitress to please have the manger come to my table so I could request fresh food. The waitress had a very bad attitude and spoke very loudly when I was less than a 5 inches from her. She yelled "Yeah! Ok? I'll send him!" As I walked away, I looked back after hearing her laughing, and noticed her laughing and smirking with one of her coworkers about my request. While at our table waiting for the manager, whom was requested 30 minutes prior, I asked our waitress to please get him, and she did. When the manger approached the table he greeted us by "What's the problem?" That was the first issue. He didn't state his name or position. He didn't even allow us to believe he was familiar with the issue. We were sitting at the table, he didn't bend to eye level. He approached us with VERY little concern. It all showed in his tone, body language, and word choice. The second issue: After informing him of the request made for fresh bread, he stated "Ok let me go look!" Then he walked away. He never stated "I apologize!" or "I'm sorry would you like me to get some made?" or "Is there anything I can do? Or get you?" After he returned (within 3 minutes) he stated, "Here you go! Is that better?" " Anything else I can do?" I personally don't feel there is anyway bread can be made in 3 minutes. BUT the WORST thing he did and said when he came back was "Anything else I can do?". He asked the question while we were both eating. Therefore, we couldn't speak at the moment and he noticed this. His eyebrows went up, as if he was getting upset. After being able to chew and wallow our food. He was informed of the poor and inconsiderate services he also gave. His response was, "Well ok! Have a good day!" He walked away. This was VERY RUDE AND THE WORST EXPERIENCE IVE EVER HAD IN A RESTURANT. Usually the manger make everything better, like they should want to do but in this case the manger made EVERYTHING WORSE. We were very dissatisfied with the food and services. We then lost our appetites'. I was then ready to pay and leave. I asked his name and he began ignoring me. It was unfortunate to learn as he stated he's the Vice President of the locations franchise. His name is RON WILDER. This is TERRIBLE! I'm sure those in authority are properly trained and should have customer service skills to maintain their positions. I told him he showed very little concern, and he made us feel he didn't care. I asked him wouldn't you agree? "He stated, "Yes." He stated, "I asked was there anything else, you didn't respond." Obviously we were chewing and unable to speak. Had we choked from responding while food in our mouths from his lack and consideration, there definitely would have been legal action taken and more issues health wise. I let him know he doesn't have the right to fire anyone else or reprimand any employee because they've learned from him. He's rude, so the employees are rude. He doesn't care, so the employees don't care. He rolled his eyes and folded his arms (VERY RUDE), so they did the same. After eating in this restaurant over 10 years we've NEVER had this HORRIFIC experience. We're paying customers so why can't I make a simple request. No customers, no business! read more

Very bad experience, and never again!!! In line, one server interrupted the first one who was about to get our drink orders for our ticket; we had to tell her unsweet tea three times, and she still gave us sweet(one of us tasted it to make sure), then acted disgusted when we and the first server told her it was wrong. Then at the buffet we encountered lukewarm, soggy vegetables, dried-out meats, and empty pans of whatever had been there and not replaced. We settled for soup and some fruit, all of it was bland and seemed canned. At the table we were going through the wrong-tea thing again with another server when we looked out the window to see a Nash County Animal Control vehicle pull up with flashing lights and an officer getting out and checking out our vehicle, even taking a pic of our license plate!!! Someone at the restaurant, probably a worker with nothing better to do, had called in a FALSE report that our dogs were suffering in the heat... THEY WERE NOT, we never take our dogs out on days when it's too hot! They were with plenty of cold water, with all the windows down, and it was not hot. The officer refused to tell us who at the restaurant made the false report. We have never in our lives had anything like this happen to us before! Made to feel like criminals when nothing was wrong, on top of the bad restaurant experience! One of us paid the bill and left the sorry food sitting while the other talked to the officer until he left, apparently satisfied that we and our dogs were the victims of an ignorant busybody. Due to this and a string of other horrible experiences over the years, we have decided to never set foot in Rocky Mount again as long as we live; we will just bypass the town completely every time we travel 64.... just as we should have today!
