Texas Steakhouse & Catering in Rocky Mount is connected to the DoubleTree by Hilton, providing both the hotel's restaurant service and its breakfast buffet. There's plenty of parking, and getting inside was easy, but being seated was not. I wasn't greeted promptly, and even after finding the hostess stand, it took a while before anyone approached me. The manager--not a host--ended up seating me. The booth was freezing, and the whole dining room felt cold. After some time, the manager returned to check whether my server had come by. She had not. More time passed before she finally arrived, and because of the delay, both the manager and the server brought drinks, leaving me with two beverages. I ordered the ribeye, medium, with a loaded baked potato and a side of broccoli. The ribeye was thin, not the thick cut you expect when you order a ribeye, and it was cooked well past medium. There wasn't a trace of pink. The flavor was mild, and the seasoning didn't bring much to the table. The baked potato tasted fine but was lukewarm--barely warm enough to soften the butter on top. The broccoli was the best part of the plate: warm, fresh, and properly cooked. The server was friendly and polite, and the manager was clearly hustling--seating guests, bussing tables, running drinks. It looked like they may have been a little understaffed or caught in a small rush. Since the restaurant handles the food services for the attached DoubleTree, they also run the breakfast buffet. My last morning, I decided to try it because the listing mentioned waffles made to order. The buffet had a decent spread--eggs, grits, bacon, some fruit--but the bread and pastry station was completely empty. Not a muffin, bagel, or slice of toast in sight. The food that was available tasted good, but when I asked for a waffle, I was told they were out of waffle mix and waiting on the truck. This was a Wednesday morning, which makes it surprising that they would run out of something that's supposed to be a standard part of the buffet. On the positive side, the breakfast staff was friendly, attentive, and offered me a to-go coffee. Overall, the restaurant feels inconsistent. Friendly staff, decent breakfast items, and good broccoli can't make up for slow seating, overcooked steak, lukewarm sides, empty buffet stations, and unexpected shortages. The steak tips, though, were literally inedible. Overcooked hard "nuggets" of meat that were so over-seasoned and exceedingly salty (remember this was for kids!) I tried one and the salt alone was so overwhelming that they literally went right into the trash. My lips were hurting from the salt, it was that bad. And, though not a huge deal, this small order took much longer than we were told it would, despite the restaurant being nearly empty. I'd skip this one. read more

I didn't eat at the Texas Steakhouse but I did go downstairs for drinks on two occasions. Taylor was an amazing bartender who handled each customer with a genuine kindness and provided excellent service. Even when things got a little hectic and she was working the bar area by herself she still had amazing composure and never got flustered. For you bourbon drinkers you can get a poor of Elmer T Lee for about $18 which is an insanely low price compared to other places that I've had it. read more

I ordered to-go at 6:28pm after traveling for 12 hours and staying at a local hotel. It's 8:12pm as I write this, and I'm still waiting for my food. I *think* they forgot to put it in, but nobody has said anything to me, apologized, explained the situation, or when I can expect it will be ready. I just overheard them yelling my order details in back, so I assume they're making it. Unacceptable customer service. Ok, so I finally heard from someone at 8:20pm. I guess they gave the order to the wrong person. The gentleman offered to throw in a free dessert. Food- our food was ok. Steak was cooked medium well as requested but little to no seasoning. Salmon was cooked well and enjoyed. Salad didn't have much dressing. Our sever was very nice she greeted us and took our order immediately. Unfortunately she dropped several items from our order and they remade them no issue. We however did not see our server after that. We had to ask someone else to get the check and we left cash so we didn't have to wait an additional 20 minutes before she returned. read more

Against my better judgment I ordered a sandwich because it was late, I was hungry and the restaurant was in the hotel where I was residing. Never again! My expectations for a club sandwich were completely unmet. What I received was a big turkey and ham sandwich on giant toast with no bacon. Saloon is right! This is where you take someone you don't like to eat. The ladies restrooms were on par with a saloon also as one stall was out of service (the handicapped) and the middle one was covered with urine. The final stall that did work, was clean did have a dispenser hanging on one hook so getting the paper out was interesting. Onto the meal... We ordered a regular and diet soda, server mixed them up so I asked for a different type of drink to avoid any further problems. We ordered a 29 dollar meal with an appetizer and two dishes with two sides. My salad had a hair on the bowl that I discovered at the end of the salad, that was unpleasant. Wow, not doing it for me so far. The steak was cooked to order as requested but very meaty in flavor, almost a pan fried in a cast iron not grilled flavor. That's a crowd pleaser for some. The potato was a good size and mostly tender and moist with a couple undercooked pockets. I would never return or recommend this place. It reminds me of the place a grandmother or great grandfather would enjoy, simple and basic with very little palate ambitions or ambiance or hygiene. Since grannies are old they would have missed the hair. To be fair the manager took off 10.00 for our troubles. We tipped the waitress 20% off the total before discount because the hair was not her problem and mixing up the drinks she corrected with an exchange. Again, we won't return. I ordered a tasty Old Fashioned- good start. Soon after I ordered my steak and a side salad. Soon after 2 more patrons at the bar. They ordered, finished their dinner and I still hadn't received even my salad. A solid 50 minutes after ordering I asked for my check. I was told my order was ready but she needed time to pick it up in the kitchen. To be fair the bar was quite busy now, but I finally got the salad. At least 5 minutes later the bartender disappeared for another 10 minutes. It's now at least 1:10 minutes since I ordered. I left cash for the 2 drinks and salad and obviously she was returning with my meal as I was walking out. I'm sure by now that steak is either well done from being under a heat lamp or ice cold. I wasn't sticking around to find out. I apologized to the bartender as I'm sure it wasn't her fault. Very slim chance I'll ever be in this neighborhood again so it's not like they lost a customer. Ambiance is ...well old with outdated track lighting, reminds me of an old Disney westren attraction from the eighties. Note the resturant next door was our 1st choice, but it was packed, so we gave this place a try because it was empty for a Sunday night and the Roadhouse back home has great food but this one did not? Better luck next time. Most of the reviews have the same theme but seems to fall on deaf ears. read more
