Dangerous, Unprofessional & Intimidating Experience I recently had an extremely disturbing experience with a driver from Western Towing in Oceanside ROBERT . In my personal opinion, this was the most unprofessional and reckless tow operator I've ever encountered. The driver was aggressive, hostile, and verbally abusive, even cursing at me and calling me names when I questioned what he was doing. The way he spoke to me as a woman and homeowner was unbelievably disrespectful. Worst of all, he attempted to tow a vehicle while my friend was still inside the car and another person was underneath working on it. The level of danger and carelessness was shocking -- someone could have been seriously hurt. His behavior escalated to the point where he made intimidating gestures, acted like he was trying to start a fight with my friends, and tried to pressure and threaten us by saying I could "get kicked out of my house" if I didn't admit fault and allow the tow. It felt like pure intimidation and abuse of authority. Because of how reckless and threatening the situation felt, the police were called. When officers arrived and saw what was happening, they ordered him to put the car down immediately. That alone tells you everything you need to know about how out-of-line this situation was. This was hands-down the most unprofessional, unsafe, and hostile experience I've ever had with any service provider. My apartments tried to work with them to release it but conveniently the tow driver that towed it is "on vacation" the next day it happened. I was only there for a few minutes so I figured I didn't need a pass, my fault, but by the time I came back out they were already taking pictures of my car so I hurried to get in and said I'll be on my way. This review is specifically for the Oceanside lot. Western towed my car across the street from their oceanside location and had it in their lot in less than ten minutes (I know this because they have time stamps of everything on the invoice) . The woman I spoke with on the phone insisted to me that they didn't have the car and she would know if it was on its way or in the lot so I needed to report it stolen. Somehow after the police were involved and they called and spoke to someone else my car was magically there. The unpleasant woman on the phone is who I had to deal with to get my car back and she went out of her way to be rude which wasn't surprising unfortunately. Absolute worst company I've dealt with in a long time. Every single person who answered the phone was nothing but rude and unprofessional, had snarky comments, and attitude like I've never heard before. One lady was nearly yelling at us, saying that our car was not there (despite providing the VIN number) and acting like we were stupid. She called back a few minutes later because she had made a mistake and eventually found the car.. don't think she even apologized for how rude she was. They charge all sorts of nonsense fees and apparently an extra $100 because there are "no business hours" so they have to dispatch someone to the yard to get the car. They told us to wait for someone to call us and made us wait the entire day (car got towed around 2am and it's now 8pm!) But also would charge more fees to keep it overnight. $400 and an entire wasted day. No one likes getting their car towed, but you don't have to add salt to the wound. I called them at 8 AM when they opened and I was there at 9:30 to get my stuff yeah it's a little annoying that they can only let one person at a time in the yard but I get it. They deal with a lot of irate people they repo cars, They keep cars that are not supposed to be touched by the owner or anyone for that matter anymore so they have to protect themselves and anyone who come in the yard. I would highly recommend using them. I didn't have a bad experience at all. I was able to get my belongings and sign off that my insurance company will be handling the rest all in a matter of 30 minutes because someone had just arrive there right before me. Western Towing deals with its customers in an unprofessional way. My vehicle was towed from my development and taken to a yard in San Marcos. I called and asked when the vehicle would be made available for pickup and the applicable fees. I spoke to a representative that told me it would be $290 for pickup of the vehicle- already an outrageous fee. It was a Sunday and I needed my car- so I arranged to pick it up the same day. Upon arrival, there was only one person servicing the whole yard. It was clear that it would take a while for my vehicle to be released- and so it did. I waited over 40 minutes for the representative to finally deal with my situation. I entered the office and prepared to pay the towing fee. Little did I know that there was a $100 fee for "after hours pickup." Absolutely ridiculous- the person that was at the yard was already there, wasn't called out specifically for me, and I'm charged an additional $100 just for pickup on a Sunday- when the company knows that most people need their vehicles as soon as possible. Not only was this fee imposed, but I was not told this fee would be in play. I'm not complaining much about the base $290- it's the $100 charge that I am not satisfied with. I begrudgingly agreed to pay. A total of $390 for a tow and 6 hours of storage. Unbelievable. I later called to ask about the $100 fee. The representative was rude and refused to issue a refund for a charge that I do not remember being mentioned to me nor communicated prior to driving to San Marcos- not to mention the scam that is the fee itself. Horrible experience - I had parked in a reserved spot at my apartment complex and the people in the reserved spot called the Western Towing and had my car towed, without notifying the management office which they should have done. This cost me 1 day of lost wages and $350! A tenant should not have the ability to call a towing company on another tenant without first notifying the rental office and giving them a chance to move their car. These people will see me in Small Claims court for $350 and emotional damages and lost wages. Plus it took forever for these snakes to get my car out. They wouldn't take last year's car registration. After diagnosis and a tear down of the car at the dealership, not only was the center differential shot, but more issues within the transmission became apparent. $5500 in damage later, my car will be needing a new center differential and a rebuild of the transmission. I don't know who to blame for this. The scumbag tow company, the scumbag apartment complex HOA, or the scumbag neighbors who just wanted to tow my truck for no reason. Still trying to get to the bottom of this,  but my truck was towed in the middle of the night,  at 1:30am. I woke up and went outside my girlfriends apartment in the morning and thought my truck was stolen. Called Oceanside PD and they informed it was towed for "not having a permit" . There was no warning, no HOA letters sent out, and no signs. Feel it's very unfair to tow in the middle of the night without even the courtesy of a warning. .$290 later and I have my truck back.  2 stars because at least the haggered looking woman in the front was kind and stoic about the whole process. Shawn, one of the tow truck drivers, gets very petty when he's not able to tow a car. When he was lowering our car down, he decided to be careless and hit our car with his equipment. When I told him if he can be more careful he tells me that my car is already " fucked up " and he also tried to get inside our car without permission. Lying in wait... My wife and I had recently moved into our apartment. It was about 9:30pm on a Saturday and my sister was parked in our garage while helping us. So my pregnant wife parked directly in front of our garage and went inside to unload. (The nearest parking is several blocks away when the two guest spots fill up.) Before she could even go back out, our neighbor came to warn us that she saw our car being towed. We couldn't believe it was possible, but we rushed outside and the Western Towing driver had already sped off with our car. I immediately called the number for WT provided by our apartment management. I explained how the management recommended we could park there for brief loading/unloading, and a stern voice, tainted from a hard life, said, "So what?" In so many words he explained that it was our fault for being towed. Fair enough, we took a calculated risk on trustworthy advice. So I appealed to his better nature. "We were only home for 10 minutes," I pleaded, "Please bring our car back." To which he scoffed, "Psh, why would I do that?" I was in shock. Hearing such smug indifference to our plight got my heart racing. I could barely speak. "Could you give me a minute?" I asked shakily, and I prayed and caught my breath. After 30 seconds or so, I spoke up again. "I'll get back to you," he said. "Excuse me?" The grown man replied, "You put me on hold, now I'm gonna put you on hold." I hear a beep, and before I know it I'm listening to a crackling line playing contemporary country pop. When he returned, I asked how much it would cost to pick up the car. He said he couldn't find it in the system. I said, of course, it was currently being towed. He asked where it was towed from and put me on hold again to call the truck. It was $185 for the tow, $92 as an "after hours" fee (because they are technically "closed" on weekends), and $40 for storage. I contested the storage fee since the truck was still en route, and he said it counts as storage as soon as they get the car into the lot. I asked that they not go through the trouble of storing the car, thereby saving time. Again, he musters as much snark as possible, "Why would I do that?" Of course. Why would you hesitate at the chance to take more money from a stranger? Why would you have mercy when you already have power? Why would you entertain the thought of compassion when profit is an option? Picking up the car during normal business hours (during weekdays only) would have cost more than paying the weekend fee, due to compounding storage fees. Which is why, I have noticed since then, that their drivers most often lurk around the apartments on weekends when Western Towing is "closed." Here's the real punchline though. Our receipt stated that the driver dispatch time AND arrival time was 9:44, which means that when we got home the driver was already lying in wait for the moment we were out of sight. Hooking up the car and fleeing the scene in under 10 minutes is actually quite impressive. Such is the skill of a professional highwayman. A couple weeks ago, I spotted one of their tow trucks patrolling the apartment complex in the early evening. I followed in my car at a distance to see if he was responding to a call. But sure enough, he was just trolling the community for fresh meat. I followed him until he made the complete rounds and left the premises empty-handed. I helped a family member to get their car out, turns out they have two locations. We were sent to the wrong location first in San Marcos were the gentleman at the desk with blonde hair was short and rude but gave us the correct location. I simply asked him for two receipts one for me the payer and one for my nephew for work since he was late and I told him he should show it to his boss so they would have no doubt why he was late and not sleeping off a hang over lol, but this gentleman made it difficult to obtain as if I asked for his last 12 paycheck Stubbs.
