My mom was visiting Richmond for my birthday weekend (also known as Memorial Day Weekend) and kept asking about area bakeries to check out. I had heard incredible feedback about Westhampton Pastry Shop (and had even sampled some in the past) but never got around to visiting. It turned out to be the perfect occasion to get acquainted with a Richmond sweet-tooth institution. What I imagined would be a quick stop was easily more like half an hour. I think my mom asked about half the pastries in the case. I settled on a blueberry danish and a pack of cinnamon buns. My mom splurged on a birthday pound cake (which they personalized on the spot for no extra charge) plus an array of cookies. Let's just say: If they had stock, I'd be throwing my money at it. They're doing everything right as a bakery, and I'm happy the bakery isn't in downtown Richmond, or I'd be packing on the pounds. As it stands, this is a fantastic special occasion or "treat yourself" location.

Over priced, disgusting taste, kindergarten decorations, the ONLY thing worth anything was the customer service we received from the young lady taking our order. We wasted $80, not one person ate the cake, I was extremely embarrassed and SO disappointed for my Daughter, who left for Army basic training. We will NEVER order from this place again.

    The wrong cake

We ordered a vanilla Christening Cake that cost over $60. Instead they gave us a chocolate cake to which the mother of the baby was allergic. Then the best they could offer was a $15 credit to be used on a future order. They first tried to give us a cake for someone named, Ethan, so I think this was Ethan's chocolate cake with the wrong name on top. Poor customer service.

Donut judge me for my frequent visits to Westhampton Pastry Shop! Blame it on the donuts...And the brownies, and the date bars and the cookies... and the gingerbread peeps... and the cupcakes... ok, blame it on my sweet tooth! It's all good! I try to come by a few times a month to pick up pastries for my mom... she loves the almond bars and the cheese danish! This bakery always has plenty of customers, but the wait is never long as they have lots of helpers!! They now serve coffee so that's a plus! There are always seasonal specials, I tried the Autumn pumpkin spiced cake which was angelic!! Summer strawberry shortcake, Spring cakes and desserts, and Winter treats make any time of year a tasty excursion! This bakery is a Richmond Landmark and I know people that travel from all over (Chester, Sandston, Louisa, etc.) to come and buy their baked goods!! And you won't have to spend a lot of bread. Wow, now I'm craving a doughnut...

Things that make you say... Mmmmm

This bakery is at the corner of Patterson and Libby . They host a lot of goodies made fresh each day! I love their doughnuts and apple , cherry danishes . Westhampton Bakery has been around for many years . I have to travel to get to them but it's worth every mile .

This was what I saw when I went to pick up the prepaid order. I was number 18.... When I got there they were on number 75 :(

If you haven't had a donut, almond cookie, melt away or the coffee cakes you don't know what you have been missing! My family has been here for generations and we still continue to come to this bakery for special events. I recently picked up pastries and cookies for Christmas and the line was out of the door. My mom told me that I needed to arrive and pick up the order between 8:30-9:30, it was already paid for so I shouldn't have any problem. I had to wait for 40 minutes! While it was worth waiting for, I don't understand why they wouldn't have a line for paid pick up and others who were placing orders. I took a number and waited, everyone was having a pretty good time and it made things go by faster. People would cheer like they got called down for the prices right when their number got called. It was Christmas Eve so we were all in pretty good spirits, but something has to change in order to expedite during the busy periods. I don't know if I will volunteer to pick up next years Christmas order. Might have to designate my brother or save this order for another time when it's not so busy.

    Amazing!

Pastries certainly aren't baked freshed daily. I bought three items, all of which were very stale. Horrible, Horrible, Horrible.

Free off street parking is plentiful. There is good signage. It's now a take out only establishment since Covid. Two table are available for outdoor seating. Most customers took their orders and walked away. I visited them on a Sunday afternoon just after St. John's let out. It's just one block away and the church Patrick Henry gave a speech. There were a lot of church goers enjoying the business. Proper has a menu in the window to guide customers on choices of savory, or sweet. I wanted one of each. The man at the window was great in providing recommendations. I ordered the steak and cheese as well as the Banoffee. The preparation is already done and the man with assistant moved quickly to complete my order. I enjoyed my treats at their outdoor table and also enjoyed conversation with locals. I started with the steak & cheese which was loaded with meat and cheese. DELICIOUS! Then onto the Banoffee which smelled heavenly of cocoa. Another home run! I love bananas and if you do too this will be enjoyable. So glad I found them open on my visit. There hours are very good, but I have missed them in the Summer before on vacation. Just go, no brainer.

I ordered several of the savory scones and a couple of cookies and loved them all. Both the cookies and scones vary by flavor but we had a sweet potato scone and a lavender flavored scone. I would not normally have ordered a lavender flavored anything but my wife loves it and I am glad she does. I tried it and struggled to leave any for her. I at almost the entire scone. The sweet potato was equally as good but with a much milder flavor. And the cookies....out of this world! The servers were friendly but nothing over the top. They seemed to be a cog in the machine and churning out orders. Overall, a cute little, vegan, spot with really good pastries and coffee. Head caution on the milkshakes if you are not use to vegan milkshakes. While they taste good, at least to me, they are wildly different than an cows milk milkshake. Alot of people are shocked by this and turned off by the flavor.

But if it doesn't- WOW! Best vegan pastries I've ever had, and I say that as a vegan of 10 years. We got the chocolate & pb cake which was incredible. It was moist, flavorful and not too heavy or too sweet. The cosmic brownie was a winner, and I was so happy to eat a chocolate croissant for the first time since going vegan! We tried a cupcake which was light and airy, with delicious frosting that wasn't too sweet, which I have found common with vegan sweets made by non vegan bakeries. We also tried the breakfast sandwich and burrito, which were so delicious and flavorful. My friend said she wouldn't have known any of it was vegan. We also picked up some cute stickers, and browsed their vegan snack shelf. The staff was so kind, and carefully packed up 4 pastries for me to bring back to California. They made it safely through 2 flights and multiple car rides! I love how this is a community hub, with meals you can purchase to pay it forward, a bulletin board of announcements, free library, and inclusive signage. We felt so welcome here, and I loved the bathroom stickers and framed review on the wall. There is NOTHING better than supporting a fully vegan business who fights for what is right. I will be dreaming of Minglewood's goodies until the next time I find myself out in Richmond. Thank you for ALL you do!

We were greeted by pleasant staff at checkout and our orders placed in a parchment type bag for take out. They also have seating inside. The pastries were just sweet enough without being overly sweet, which I like. The pistachio cream was a perfect compliment to the pecan encrusted pastry. The almond twist was both flaky and crunchy with the sliced almonds on top, and the strawberry shortcake had layers of real strawberries, whipped topping and yellow cake that was moist.
