Sonesta is a beautiful all inclusive resort. Nice beachfront of course you have to get up early to get a nice spot on the beach. We went when it was spring break - young college students everywhere. The main pool on the family side was where all the activities were. The Adult side was more of a relaxing atmosphere. The food wasn't consistent especially at the Palm Beach Grill. The resort also had a popular grill spot by the pool on the Family side that served hot dogs and burgers. The other onsite restaurants were average. The best dining experience was the breakfast buffet, very organized and the staff served you. The drinks were super sweet, you have to ask the bartender not to add too much juice or soda. If you wanted a nice cocktail have your dollars ready and you can ask him to use the better quality alcohol and not the house brand. For some reason the lobby bar at most resorts prepares the best drinks - this is where I receive the best service along with the best drinks. We had an issue with our room and had to switch by the second day. I really did not like their customer service because they tried to convince us to stay in a room that wasn't up to standard. The first room had a foul odor coming up from the drainage, the shower head was broken and there were broken dresser drawers. They gave us a really hard time and tried to make it look like they were doing us a favor. We had to reach out to the corporate office after checking out. This isn't a bad resort and we would stay here again. It's located at a central location thats close to a lot of restaurants and attractions. read more

Usually resorts are set off by themselves and away from the local communities. The staff is super friendly. Very nice resort. Some family stayed at maho while we stayed at ocean. Food is much better at the ocean resort, with 2 additional pools and a few exclusive bars/lounges. Room was beautiful. Viewed were amazing. The beach is nice, waves are a bit strong. Close to Simpson bay for bar hoping (they say maho village is the entertainment center but...naw, it's not). Sonesta rooms are better than Simpson bay rooms... Simpson bay has more activities and walkability at night. Thankfully it's close by. We rented from dollar rentals in the maho lobby and received free parking on site. It was so nice to have a car instead of paying drivers every time we needed to leave. Whether you're looking to party, chill, relax, sunbathe or be pampered with a personal Butler (check out the butler suite!!) sonesta is the place to lay your head and keep your group entertained at all times. Especially those who prefer to stay at the resort 24/7. For those who like to get out and about, it's close to Simpson bay and not too far from Marigot or Phillipsburg. We were greeted immediately with a cool towel chilled and infused with eucalyptus. After a long day of travel, it was welcomed. Staff was very nice and accommodating. We were there as a party of almost 85 for a wedding. The views were amazing. The food was great. The entertainment was pretty cool also. The beach was serene. Cons: The bed was okay, not great. The layout of the rooms on the Maho side was weird. The glass only covered half of the shower so you were guaranteed to get water on the floor. Also the glass in the shower meant if someone was on the bed, they could simply look to the right and see you showering or using the toilet. So strange. Also the shower pressure was Uneven so it took some playing around. Seeing the planes land while eating dinner or at the beach was so cool. Everyone on vacation was so nice. Karaoke was a whole vibe. I even won a dance concert and the prize was nice also. We rented a car to see the French side of the island also. All in all great trip and I would return but pick a different room style. read more

'm not a complainer, but this resort was a huge disappointment. We booked it for a short anniversary trip expecting a relaxing all inclusive experience and were shocked by how bad it was. The liquor selection is cheap and basic. The food is below mediocre across the board. Bland, poorly prepared, and not worth eating. What really crossed the line was the staff. After dinner and a few drinks, while not loud or disruptive, we were told to go to bed. Completely inappropriate and unprofessional. I've never felt so unwelcome at a resort. They've ace mw a standard room and they said we aren't changing it. Then for the food restaurants in the evening time for dinner. They don't do reservations for food. So I was there to get a sit and they told me because I don't have a neck t shirt I can't eat at this place where I paid. Because this is a all exclusive resort. Don't come to this resort it's not worth it. So I just found out from someone that came here with their family. She told her dad that there was black dots on the edge of the bed. Well looks like it was bed bugs and that she went buy some aloe to put in herself. Idk but if this hotel has bed bugs. Best resort we've stayed at in the Caribbean! We've been to most of the islands over 40+ years of travel and this place is amazing. The people are friendly, welcoming and accommodating. We loved the Adults Only pool overlooking the ocean, never very crowded, with live music in the late afternoon. Food was outstanding. I was nervous and usually stay away from an all-inclusive as the food is usually just so so, but every meal was delicious and with 5 star service. Azul was our favorite and I liked the daily change in menus. One suggestion - take care of the people taking care of you, it makes a difference. We will return. read more

Stayed here 7/8-12/2022. Had an amazing time. The resort is located in an area with some souvenir shopping and nightlife, including a casino. It's only minutes from the airport and you can catch a taxi anywhere on the island. Our room had a beautiful view of Maho Bay from our balcony, so we were able to watch planes fly in and out all day. Also, walking distance to a quieter beach at Mullet Bay with a restaurant that serves great ox tail, Da Watering Hole. We had dinner there then went for a sunset swim.  There are 2 pools on the adult side, and numerous restaurants, although Azul was the best for breakfast and dinner. It has an open air dining room with many tables right by the ocean. We saw large fish and sea turtles from our table and the wait staff are great. Our room was nice enough, but the shower could use maintenance. Overall, I'd go back in a heartbeat! read more

We had a great experience at Ocean Point. We got one of the swim up rooms, with a nice little patio. The room came with 4 full size bottles of complimentary liquor. Wow. We really enjoyed the restaurants that were exclusive to Ocean Points guests and were legit all inclusive. We expected they would only include low end alcohol, but that was not the case. We were drinking lychee grey goose martinis all night with no extra charge. Azul, the over the water restaurant, was our favorite. We ate there for breakfast and dinner. Loved the omelets. The view is amazing. Portofino was also lovely and right next to the water. Service was great. Staff are friendly. Place is clean. Location is 10 minute walk to Mullet Bay Beach, the nicest beach we saw on the island. Loved it. We will very likely be back. read more

We visited St. Maarten for our honeymoon and stayed at Sonesta Ocean Point Resort. (For reference this was Oct./Nov. 2021.)We chose Ocean Point for the all inclusive and adults only features! Not to mention they have some pretty amazing honeymoon deals. The deal we secured was 7 nights in a Sunset Butler Suite. This included Butler service, a couples massage, a private candlelight dinner, 3 bottles of wine of our choice, an excursion (usually a day trip to St. Barth, but due to COVID this was not an option), a fully stocked bar (with liquor of our choice), mixers, and all we could eat and drink for the duration of our stay! Covid-19: Traveling during Covid times can be stressful for some, Sonesta Ocean Point has gone above and beyond to put their guests at ease. They have increased sanitary measures and have hand sanitizer placed throughout the resort, the staff all wear masks, and you can opt in or out of house keeping. We felt completely comfortable and safe throughout our stay. Staff: every single staff member we made contact with from check in to check out was extremely friendly and professional. A special shout out to our Butlers Thaimi and Dane for going above and beyond to make us comfortable and meet our needs throughout our stay. They were absolutely amazing and you can tell they enjoy what they do!! Food: All restaurants onsite at Ocean Point Resort and Maho Bay Resort are included with the all inclusive theme. We ate breakfast some days at the Ocean Terrace which is buffet style and is open breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And nearly all of our lunches and dinners at Azul. They are open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Serving 5 course meals, for which the menu changes daily! The food and service were phenomenal! On our next visit, we will definitely try the Italian inspired restaurant The Point. Pool Experiences: we spent most of our pool days at the adults only pools, which were the Point pool and the Edge Pool. There was poolside drink service, which Janelle at the Point pool made one of the best passion fruit mojitos I have ever tasted! Stephanie was a great server and always very friendly. Spa Experiences: our honeymoon package included an hour long couples massage at Serenity Spa. When we arrived at the spa we were asked to complete a form to express our needs and expectations. We were also given a chilled scented towel and a welcome drink (cranberry juice and mango sorbet) both were so refreshing. Our massages were some of the best we have had, the therapists really listened to us on what we wanted worked on and got the pressure right throughout. The massage concluded with a glass of champagne in the quiet room as we relaxed post massage. The experience was so great we booked a massage in the Ocean Point Gazebo. It was an amazing experience getting a massage while listening to the waves crash below and enjoying the ocean breeze. Sunset Suite: was beautifully arranged, with a large shower and stand alone tub. A giant two way closet, king sized bed, and a gorgeous view over looking the Point Pool, Azul restaurant, and the ocean. The sunsets were absolutely spectacular from our patio! I feel like there are negative reviews from people who visited the resort towards the beginning of St. Maartens reopening after Covid or the Hurricane, as we really dont have anything to complain about. Our experience at Ocean Point was luxurious and totally exceeded our expectations. Not to mention we made lots of great memories and feel it was a fabulous place to spend our honeymoon. I went to St. Maarten for a wedding and stayed at Sonesta Maho Beach Resort, family resort, attached to Ocean Point for adults only. Last time I was here, I stayed at Sonesta Great Bay Resort, Adults Only, and my experience was a lot better all around. The food was edible but I recommend heading off the resort for better quality food. The main strip is right outside the hotel, majority is walking distance. Breakfast is the only time I would rec. using the buffet, lunch and dinner...NO. Napoli Pizza is yummy for lunch. The Palms Grill was my favorite spot on the resort for lunch and dinner. I would also rec. Jings for asian cuisine just order double when it comes to apps. Small portions. The Tavern for late night is hit or miss with food however, it is a nice spot for music, karaoke, and a bar. The service was dependent upon the employee you were speaking to and the day. Some amazing, others not as personable. At times, nobody was available or certain places were not open due to shift changes or simply closed for the day. Rooms were nice inside, not all views and or balconies were as featured in photos. The water pressure is inconsistent and at times stopped working mid shower. Beach access is nice. Umbrellas were easy to get however, you need to make sure you reserve one early cause they are limited. No beach service attendant so bring a reusable bottle for water and drinks, it is hot. Highly suggest the hotel putting a water jug by the beach for guests to stay hydrated. Overall a nice trip with family but improvements need to be made. read more

Beautiful resort with just the right amount of amenities. The pools are great, the beach area unfortunately small but not their fault. Azul had a great variety of food but be prepared to know the rest of the restaurants odd schedule. The staff was hot or cold lol either super nice and accommodating or completely miserable as if they hated being there specially the bartender by the beach. Make sure you have cash with you because the nearest ATM is located at the casino which not opens until 1 pm and charges $5-$7 to take money out. The escalator going up to the second floor were not working. They said they were broken for two weeks so a lot of the injured and handicap people were able to go up and down. They didn't have hot water from midnight till six in the morning, so couldn't take a shower one night. The beach area is not an area. You could put a chair. You have to sit up on top on a so-called beach next to the hotel. not a place to bring children, which I saw some children here due to the lewdness will not be coming back. read more

Customer service on check in was not helpful, we booked through an agency and the check in policy was negotiated for 3 pm on our confirmation. However the person at check in rudely said 4 and further reiterated it's our policy. The room was prepaid and charged but she wanted another credit card. The amount on the reservation matched but the check in time didn't . I showed the person the email confirmation but she replied must be an error . I asked if the rate was correct and she said that it was. So I guess it may be a typical vacation resort . Seems like a ok place but the customer service is certainly lacking read more

Our Sonesta stay was meant to be a luxury capstone to our absolutely wonderful trip to the small island of Saba, where we stayed in a modest, but thoughtfully appointed hotel. Every meal at the hotel, and the handful of restaurants we visited in town, was lovely. After we had eaten, hiked, taken scuba lessons, and enjoyed everything the island had to offer, we were looking forward to a relaxing 3-night stay at a supposedly 5-star luxury hotel on Sint Maarten. When we arrived at Sonesta Ocean Point we were welcomed with cold towels and cocktails which indicated it might very well be a 5-star experience, but reality soon set in. We arrived early, so we thought we would check out the beach while waiting for our room. It turns out this "adults-only" resort, a sister property to the adjacent family resort, does not have an adults-only beach. In fact it doesn't really have much of a beach at all, and the small scrap of beach it does have is open to the public. In addition to that, the pool was closed on the family side, so there were no adults-only public spaces available during our stay. Wow, ok then. There were also no air conditioned common spaces in the entire (dated) hotel. So we sat and sweated for 3 hours while waiting for our room to become available. Once we checked into our room, we were hit with a strong chemical smell clearly masking a pervasive odor of mildew, and an occasional whiff of urine. The bed was rock hard with worn dips and the lovely feel of coils in our backs. The sheets were stiff and scratchy with the flattest, hardest pillows I've ever slept on in my life. The mini fridge/bar had cheap no-name alcohol which contained "natural flavors" (that's a new one), a few sodas, water, and no snacks. There were no closed captions on the tv - no streaming - and the sound cut out every few minutes. The shower was open concept, guaranteeing getting water all over floor, and the handheld sprayer was coming apart, with water spraying everywhere. Oh and btw the water smells like chlorine. Fun! As for the food... we found the restaurant Azul to be the only spot in the entire resort that served anything resembling a decent meal, but still nowhere near 5-star or luxury. We tried Jing, which served soggy luke warm spring rolls, flavorless vegetables, and hard, over-cooked salmon under a delightful corn-syrup glaze. We also tried the Palm Grill, which wasn't as bad as Jing, but just barely passed as mediocre. So we stuck with Azul the entire time. We did try room service once for a breakfast-in-bed experience. Of course it took an hour to be delivered, everything that should have been warm was cold, the coffee was burnt, and they only brought utensils for one person. Needless to say, we were underwhelmed by Sonesta's overall culinary offerings. We tried our best to enjoy ourselves and thought we could kill some time by heading over to the mini casino and playing a few slot machines. We walked up to the bar and asked the bartender if he had any drink recommendations. He served up some kind of a pink lemonade with cheap liquor concoction, reminding me of drinks I might have made in high school. As for the casino, "mini" is the correct word here as half of the dozen-or-so machines were out of order. We sat down to play a few of the machines that did work, which were dated and clunky, and when we tried to cash out, my receipt got stuck, so I had to flag down a manager to open up the machine and retrieve it. Then, on our way out of the hotel lobby, every hand sanitizer stand I tried to use was empty. Staff friendliness was hit or miss, but almost everyone seemed inexperienced and most likely underpaid. There was loud music playing for hours right outside our bedroom window. Also, keep in mind, the resort is next to the airport, so you'll see and hear planes flying in/out all day. The Spa service was the best part of the stay - still not quite a "luxury" experience, but pretty close. Overall, the resort was so subpar that I paid over $700 to change our flights and push up our departure date, which is something I would not ever normally do. This also meant that we forfeited our last night at the hotel, making it a 2-night instead of 3-night stay. I know a lot of people haven't experienced "luxury, 5-star" resorts, as Sonesta likes to call itself, which is perhaps why you see some positive reviews, but wow, this just isn't even close. Seriously, take a puddle jumper flight to one of the smaller islands and have a far superior experience in every possible way. This "resort" is 3 stars at best, but the fact they they try to sell it as 5 stars means I can't, in good conscience, give it more than 1. read more

After rebuilding completely from the damage of hurricane Maria to the Sint Maarten area this place is back up and running. The hotel offers the regular Sonesta Macho Bay Resort And Casino and then The Higher Package Of Oceans Point. All Inclusive Option with 3 Specialty Restaurants and two buffets options and a pub bar. The place is absolutely beautiful and the amenities such as the pools, small casino, restaurants, beach, and bars are lovely. The place is kept very clean which I loved. The newly remodeled rooms are very nice. From check in the staff was very pleasant which was great. The pool had different daily activities for hotel patrons to interact with. Also nightly events or performances as well. Sheryl from the oceans bar was absolutely amazing. She made this trip amazing her customer service skills went over and absolutely beyond. By the end of the trip I felt like family. This lady is the queen of Sonesta. Truly a treasured gem. The thing I disliked and heard several people complain about was the reservations to the specialty restaurants. I spent 5 days and upon arrival the reservations kiosks said every restaurant over 4 were booked every single night for dinner. Spending so much money and having so little dinner options seems totally unfair. So many people went through this and was upset. The pool bar closes super early at 5pm which was odd to me. I would think at least 7 pm or even 6 would be better. This place is still being renovated and cam be heard throughout the day and night so be aware. But overall I did like it. This is sister property to where I stayed, but I got a glimpse. The pool is elevated over the water, which is gorgeous. The Point is the attached restaurant, which is exceptional despite sporadic service. This is a five-star property. You will still be in easy walking distance to beach, town, Mullet Bay, and Casino Royale. I didn't stay here but I spoke with people who were staying here and playing poker. Honestly I don't even know where to start. I DEF WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL. If you're looking for luxury, comfort, great food and service this is not the place to stay. The rooms are a decent size, however the shower floor is extremely greasy and feels gross on the bottom of your feet. You can tell they do not use bleach or cleaning supplies to clean the shower. The walls are extremely thin, you can literally hear ever word your neighbors are saying. The property is less than a 1 star. They play 80's / 90's music at the pool all day. (Elvis, the Beatles, George Michael) IT'S TERRIBLE! There's no food service at the pool. There's no waiters to serve drinks at the pool. There's no towels at the pool. U have to bring towels from your room. Smh The airport is walking distance from the hotel so you hear plans taking off and landing ALLLLL DAY. Its SO LOUD! The last time I had been here was March 2020, the week before NYC had shut down for COVID. I had a trip planned August 2020 but had to cancel, and I had zero issues cancelling my trip with the resort. I rescheduled my trip for March 2021. I really didn't know what to expect since covid. Before you go, you must have a covid test 3 days prior. You also have to visit the st Maarten tourism website and fill out a form which takes about 5-10 minutes, and do this before you get to the airport! You also have to purchase insurance for the trip which is done through the sxm tourism website. You are required to self monitor and they send you emails every day. Now, back to the resort. I was able to check in online, and got a text message when my room was ready. I was staying in the swim out suite. I went to the front desk on arrival and was fitted with my bracelet. They check your temp when you first arrive, and there are hand sanitizers everywhere. You are required to wear a mask in public and shared areas. You no longer have to schedule your appointment for the fitness center. The room had a sticker on it to show that it had undergone a deep clean, which I appreciated. The resort was very quiet, especially for March, but with the regatta being cancelled this year, I wasn't surprised. The temps were in the high 70's to low 80's, low humidity, and nice Tradewinds. The pool was clean, empty, and the bar was flowing as usual. Almost everyone followed instructions with their masks. The Azul restaurant was where I spent most of my lunches and dinners, I did spend one afternoon upstairs at the little bar, the music was too loud. I also had dinner at the Point, and ordered room service. Everyone is so nice, accommodating, and the food was amazing as usual. I spent a lot of time in a little cabana by the shared pool and also in my swim out pool area. The resort will also arrange for you to have your covid test prior to departure. You can get the antigen test for $65 and usually the dr on the island will come across the street to the resort, and you get your result the same day. Or you can go to the Maho clinic which is a short 3 minute walk from the resort, but you have to wait in line as well as the hours are limited. The PCR test was $110 and the results are next day, they email you the result or you can pick up your copy at the clinic (they are closed on weekends.) Check out was easy and straightforward. If I could give negative stars I would. Do not ever go here! They are criminals. My iPad was stolen from my room by the staff. I am normally very protective of my property but the day that we were leaving I left my iPad out to charge. We went to get breakfast and came back 45 minutes later and it was gone. We reported it to the front desk and security but they could care less. There was a camera right outside of our room but they refused to check it to see who entered. They also refused to check the key card to see who scanned in the room. We filled out a report and they told us they would contact us but they knew we had to catch a flight so they didn't care much. The whole staff, security and manager made me feel like they were all involved in the scam. When we got back home we sent emails to so dets complaining. It took days to get back to us and they said they were investigating it. Of course I had no confidence in their investigation and I even told the hotel manager I wouldn't be surprised if your involved and I told her I know your going to tell me you checked the cameras and nobody entered. Lo and behold two days later she emails me back and says we checked the cameras and nobody entered and the investigation is closed. I asked her for her supervisors contact and of course she never got back to me and just ignored me. During this trip we were not the only guests whose rooms got robbed. There was another guest on the first floor who had 200$ removed and their headphones. Please if you don't want your stuff stolen do not stay in this resort! They are corrupt and I really do believe they are all in on the theft of property from the guests. read more

Amazing resort super friendly staff! Love the layout we enjoyed our swim up room and the room was gorgeous! The views were breathtaking especially during sunset. Azul was our favorite restaurant for breakfast and dinner, the view from there was simply wow! We even got to see a sea turtle during lunch!! It was an awesome experience. It's walking distance to Maho beach which we thought was great watching the planes take off and land. From the resort you could easily see the planes Landing and taking off. Room service was quick and if you had any issues at the resort it was always addressed in such a quick manner! The front desk staff were amazing ELAINE in particular she was me and my wife's favorite. She made sure we were all set and happy from when we walked in from when we walked out. Being that we were the brides getting married on the resort we were definitely treated with respect by her. The bartenders and waitresses were not so friendly. I was disappointed to know that such a beautiful island had such miserable workers. The resort has a beautiful view of the beach and the you will get cool views of the planes flying in. They have fun activities that involve music and dancing. The food was ok nothing horrible nothing great. I loved the rum punch. You have to give it a try. read more

Ok the reason for the two stars is because the grounds are immaculate..Now moving forward so I asked my travel agent to book me in a place with no children 18 and up please ..don't get me wrong I love kids but I don't want to seen them running around on vacation, so I get there and we are sitting having dinner and we see a couple of strollers we are like hmmmm I thought this was 18 and over so my agent "room 125" put in a complaint and the manager said well there are three restaurants the kids can't go to im like what that's not what the website states so there is nothing we can do about that and a lot of the women in the main restaurant seem mad about LIFE horrible customer service ..I had to hunt them down for coffee then again for coffee creamer ..a mimosa takes 20 minutes to come because they have to go elsewhere to get it ..in most places I visit the champagne, orange juice , & cranberry justice is right there , I paid close to $4000 for this vacation and I will NEVER be back here ...the food was cold for breakfast every time and so was dinner ..okay in my room my bed was so squeaky and loud it was ridiculous it was clean and nice but both mattress needs to be replaced ..the manager tried to fix the complaints w ox tails I have not had meat in over 30 years but the other 12 people I was here with enjoyed it ..so I also wanted a swim up bar for adults only well nope not here but I can go to the sister hotel where allll the kids are and swim and drink with them ..The swim up bar is NOT at my hotel that I'm staying at and paid for alllll the activities are over there at the sister hotel not here ..I've been sitting here for 1 1/2 hour and only one person checked on me and this is not even her station ..Get it together .... read more

My recent stay at Sonesta St. Maarten was extremely disappointing. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that the hotel's standards were far below what was advertised as a five star resort. Here are the specific issues we encountered: 1. Air Conditioning Issues: The hotel knowingly placed us in a room with a non-functional air conditioning system. We were told they needed to try four different things to fix it, and there were no other rooms available. We had to involve our travel agent, and a portable AC unit was finally installed at 1 am. We changed rooms and watch them continue to check more guests into that room. Three days later the AC was not working again in the second room. The staff repeatedly lied about fixing it all day long and finally fixed it when they saw us walk off the resort for dinner. 2. Poor Room Conditions: The room showed significant wear and tear, including a ripped couch and microbial growth on the lamps. The showers leaked water all over the floor, making it hazardous and unpleasant. 3. Inconsistent Dress Code Enforcement: The hotel did not consistently enforce its dress code, particularly regarding shoes, leading to a lack of standardization. 4. Lack of Entertainment: The advertised entertainment was nonexistent. Live music events were always canceled, and there were no other forms of entertainment available. The schedule for live music when it did happen was unreliable, with times changing without notice. Events often started late and did not run for the full scheduled time. 5. Closed Facilities: Two of the restaurants and the cliffside massage area were closed due to storm damage. The repairs took longer than the five remaining days we had at that point. 6. Maintenance and Security Issues: Maintenance staff entered our room without knocking while I was undressed, which was extremely distressing. We reported this to the GM only to be told that we were being removed from the hotel if I didn't stop crying in his lobby. 7. Lack of Proper Security: Security staff were unhelpful and refused to call the police when needed. One of the maintenance personnel that walked in on me undressing the previous day said to my husband as we walked past him "you better keep her safe." When the police eventually arrived, they deemed the issue internal. Security falsely claimed a problematic individual was removed, but we saw him again later. They refused to restrict his access to our room for 24 hours. When we expressed our safety concern, we were told we could stay elsewhere without a cancellation fee, pending further security investigation. 8. Poor Communication and Accountability: Throughout our stay, the front desk managers Thyme and Ederkys, and the GM, Eddie, were either unresponsive or unhelpful. We were given a letter at our room that said "we're sorry about your experience, please contact the GM at this email address." Five minutes later they knocked with another letter that said "violation for use of profanity" Security staff failed to provide documentation or take proper action at any time. Despite these numerous issues, I must acknowledge that the food was good, and the pools were enjoyable, although the pools were never vacuumed. We have made multiple complaints with case numbers and no one has contacted us back on them. Our travel agent has made multiple attempts to get a response from the company through her contacts, no response. Given our experience, I cannot recommend staying at Sonesta St. Maarten. Don't be fooled by the influencer five star reviews, they're paying them to come stay at the resort. The combination of poor management, lack of communication, and numerous safety concerns made for an unacceptable stay. If you value your comfort and safety, consider booking elsewhere. read more

Loved loved loved this resort. I came here last year and throughly enjoyed everything here. First thing first the airport is like 5 minutes away from here. The staff is amazing and friendly from the time I checked in they were so accommodating. The resort is beautiful the rooms are nice. From the time I stepped foot in the resort I kid you not I was drunk. Liquor galore here and off the resort. The bartenders are so friendly and nice they were making me anything I requested. The food though not a big variety was good also. I spent my time going to different restaurants on the strip so that was a plus being on the main road. I'm not sure why there is so many bad reviews this is the first resort I can say I would gladly go back in a heartbeat. Everything was good. Expensive but very good. read more

The hotel is fine but the service and rooms are not safe. We were locked in our room for over an hour due to the keys/door not working. We called room service multiple times and they did not respond or free us from our room. We paid extra for the sky suite and still got trapped in our room for over an hour. If you are claustrophobic or concerned about being locked in your room during a fire this resort is not for you. The staff were not helpful and explained that the could not help us because multiple other rooms were also locked from the inside without the guests being able to escape. Adult side- the staff seems disgruntled, our butler is amazing. Not what we expected. The staff working the morning buffet not welcoming, they make you feel like your bothering them. We stayed at this all-inclusive resort for a wedding, and I was absolutely amazed at how beautiful our ocean view room was, and how helpful and courteous the people were (with the exception of one staff member who must have been having a bad day and wanted to share her misery... I'll pray for her). But for the most part, we have nothing to complain about. There was always something to do; whether it was a live band, water aerobics, relaxing in the pool or soaking in crystal clear ocean to escape the heat...we were satisfied and content with our stay here. I really want to thank/applaud a few people; Jenel at the concierge desk who left an incredible impression from the time we checked it to the time we checked out. Sharon the supervisor in the dining area where breakfast, lunch and dinner is served was attentive, helpful, kind and efficient. Also, Tiffany was hard-working and courteous. Jose from the restaurant, The Point was extremely personable, wonderful and kind. Lastly, Ysmond from housekeeping who was kind and friendly left our hotel room prestine during our stay. I have stayed in numerous hotels, and this one will be on my list of hotels to stay in when I visit this beautiful island. The views are beautiful. But the resort itself has not fully recovered from the hurricane. My room was lovely but a some of the others were old and really not what you expect to get from an expensive all inclusive like this one. We traveled with 11 people and 3 members of our group got violently ill and missed 2 days of the vacation unable to leave their room. We later found out that at least 1/3 of the hotel was sick. When I looked at reviews I saw this has been n happening for WEEKS!!! why weren't we told? If we knew the norovirus was at the resort that long ago perhaps we could have made other arrangements. Also as I said looking out at the views was lovely but if you look down at the rocks In front of you you will see garbage littering them. Also the butler service was terrible. I've had butler service at other resorts and it's been amazing. We ordered coffee in our room at 8 am bY 9 when it still hadn't arrived we went to breakfast returned... still no coffee. Shortly after we saw him on the way with coffee. Almost 2 hours later!!! This is only 1 of a list of service and butler issues. We were a large but Very happy and friendly group but most (not all) of the waitstaff was just so unfriendly. It was difficult to even get a smile! Food was ok at Azul restaurant but the buffet on the other side was not great. I will not return to this resort anytime soon. read more

This place is absolutely horrible! If I could give it a negative star rating, I would... picture this: You work hard and save to go on a vacation with your family, you anticipate how it would be and count down the days then you arrive.... From the start, we waited 3 hours for our room. As we were waiting, we had lunch in one of the cafe areas. The food seemed as if it was cooked weeks ago. This was one of only of a few options because reservations on the property are booked several days out. If you're looking for a resort to enjoy family time...this place isn't it. We brought our daughter to a place that would be better served as a low budget spring break getaway for college students looking to get intoxicated. Thirdly, we had no running water. At the time of this review, it's been three hours and still no running water. How do you come in from 90 degree weather and not have running water to shower or simply wash your hands?! Oh, the front desk offered bottled water. Are you kidding me? I'm suppose to take a shower with a bottle of water? I wish I was over exaggerating but I'm not. Fourthly, (by the way, I shouldn't have to write four reasons why I feel I've wasted a couple of thousand dollars), our refrigerator isn't working. Normally, this may not be that big of a deal but we have an eleven month old daughter whom we can't refrigerate her formula. Alternative? Oh, the ice machine doesn't work too. Fifthly, the bell man (Raul) walked into our room unannounced. Are you kidding me? Talk about safety concerns. And he acted as if it wasn't a big deal. Furthermore, looking to relax at 9:30p after a long day?? Ha! Don't count on it. There's loud music blaring from the pool area (again, it's like college spring break party all the time). The list goes on and on... No room service, air conditioning stopped working, there was mold in the shower (didn't place just open)?? I'm beyond disappointed but mostly embarrassed that as a parent/spouse I wasn't able to give my family a much better experience that we anticipated greatly. Please don't stay here. read more

DON'T COME HERE I am writing this as we're only on day two of our 4 night stay. This hotel is a total Joke! All inclusive that isn't actually all inclusive. They run out of food every-time you ask for something. People are rude besides the guys working up front. Tried to order room service twice today because pizza bar could't keep up and the only restaurant that was supposed to be open during those hours had a private event and was closed this particular day. First time after calling 3 times to get someone on phone they said 45 minutes for our order. We waited an hour and a half then tried calling back and couldn't get through to room service. We ended up leaving the resort to get food because we had to eat! Later that evening we tried to order room service again at 9:30pm. They said "food will be up in a few minutes" two hours went by then I called to cancel cause at that point we just needed to get to bed. Again no answer! I called the front desk and they said we could complain to guest services in the morning. No apology at all! This is a total joke. This isn't a cheap resort and we're being treated like second class. Oh not to mention we have a suite we're the bedroom AC isn't blowing so we have to keep the main room one blasting to help cool the bedroom. We had maintenance come up and said they would try to fix in back room but nothing ever changed. Keep in mind I travel a lot and have stayed at 10-15 all inclusive resorts and this is by far the worst one I've ever been too! DO NOT COME HERE! As I go to write this, I'm comforted (and saddened) that the reviews all follow a certain theme. This resort is not a good pick. I only wish is known that before our vacation. The major issue is a lack of service and care. Every turn, every moment for that true hospitality experience, they fail. We had four people in our party and two of the higher end rooms. Both had a 'butler' who never picked up the phone and was essentially not a part of our experience after the tour on arrival. The rooms were very nice, but the pictures online don't show you how close you are to the airport. For us, that was nice. We enjoyed Maho beach and the low planes, but it's not as quiet and excluded as their online photos suggest. The housekeeping did a great job maintaining our room. It was always cleaned up nicely. The room itself was nice. The bed comfy. The pillows good. The bathtub beautiful. The praise stops there. The food, at all the on-site restaurants, sucks. It's not even like the lower end of good, we straight up stopped eating here two nights in. The menus also don't seem to change much so a long stay is going to get boring even if you like the subpar food. On arrival, we had a broken tv. We said we didn't care, that we won't use it, but our butler insisted they were going to install a new one. So, we come back from our first disappointing lunch to two workmen in our room. We tell them we don't use the tv and it's no problem. They don't get the hint. They keep working, loudly. They then say they need more supplies and they'll be back. We reiterate that we don't use the tv and don't mind a broken one during our stay. That changes nothing. When they finally come back and finish, the new tv is also broken and I'm more pointed about us not wanting them to fix this one too. They leave, and leave behind a bag of cords and trash across the floor and bed. Then, our second to last day we called about laundry, they said that if we gave it to them right then, it'd be done by the evening of the same day. So, we did that, but then evening passes and no laundry. We call to check in, they say the next morning. We go to bed. Wait in the morning and no laundry. We call again. They have to track down the laundry, it's not clear which branch of their services have it. We call again, now the laundry is at the desk. I ask for it to be brought to me. They agree and then we wait. An hour more passes. We call to a bunch of busy signals. Finally, as they are taking our bags to go to our airport taxi, we call out butler directly and quote angrily ask for our laundry. Then, suddenly, it appears 15 minutes later at our door. The laundry service is an extra charge. I've had more attentive service at a highway motel than this resort. I seriously wouldn't recommend. read more
