I was recommended to have my cataract surgery with Dr. Vendall with Westlake Eyes. Here are my conclusions about Westlake Eyes in Kyle, Texas: 1. Appointments always ran late. 2. The office staff are more concerned about laughing and giggling amongst themselves than the needs of their patients. 3. Westlake Eyes nickel and dime you to get more $$$. For example, they quote an amount for eye drops necessary, but they don't tell you the amount is for one eye only. There are always extra costs that are not disclosed. 4. Dr. Vendall did not share all possible side effects. For example, I ended up with a cute corneal inflammation and was without sight for 4 days in my first eye. This was very upsetting and was not given as a possible side effect. I thought I had lost my sight forever. Thankfully, the inflammation went down and my sight came back. 5. My first RX for my glasses after surgery was completely incorrect. Incorrect in all areas of the prescription. 6. Filthy reception area. 7. The surgery center that all procedures are completed are owned, or partially owned, by Dr. Vendall. They set the prices and it seems to be a money maker for Dr. Vendall-sort of a monopoly. With hindsight now, I would NOT recommend Westlake Eyes for cataract surgery. read more

. Dr. Vendall has left me with a damaged cornea and chronic pain in my right eye for over a year now. Right Eye: The cells below the cornea have been damaged from Vendall's traumatic surgery on the dense cataract.  This left a scar on the cornea and the cells damaged resulting in chronic pain and severe sensitivity to light. I now am under the care of a Cornea Specialist My Options: Do nothing and stay on steroids the rest of my life. Major surgery: Cornea Transplant from a cadaver- but if my body rejects the tissue I'll still have to be on steroids the rest of my life. I am an artist and an Expressive Arts Therapist.  My work with private clients and facilitating 6-8 day retreats, depends on my ability to see, make eye contact with participants and be able to work 8- 10 hour days.   I was already legally blind in my right eye from an accident that happened when I was 9 years old, resulting in scar tissue blocking my retina. But I still had "navigational vision" in the injured eye which served me.  This old injury resulted in a very dense cataract that Dr Vendal used excessive traumatic pressure to remove. Most of all, as partially blind, I needed my doctor to be conservative with my sight I had severe pain in my right eye following surgery.  When I went for my follow ups Dr Vendall was rude and defensive.  She discounted me and told me that there was no reason for my pain. Even before surgery she was rough (ie: after she painfully poked my eye  before surgery the nurse said, "Oh!  She didn't have to be so rough!") and insensitive during surgery.   During surgery I was awake and felt the deep pain she inflicted on my right eye. The anesthesiologist wrote in my file, and told me after surgery, that I should have had more anesthesia for the pain. Left Eye: My only good eye (left eye) is now compromised for night driving because of the lens she put in, which she told me could be removed if it bothered me. However, I was never told that I had a 3 month window to remove the offending lens.  On December 28, when I finally insisted that I get the details about removing the lens in my right eye another doctor handed me off to the office staff, who wouldn't tell me anything, much less that there was a 3 month window.  At this time it had been 3 months to the day of my left eye surgery. My work has been compromised as a result of this damaging surgery.   What was my only good eye is now compromised for night driving. I continue to look for answers because I have researched the side effects of being on steroid drops the rest of my life.  It doesn't look good. read more

The billing department for Westlake Eye Specialists is inept. They keep sending me invoices for a bill I paid at the time of service. I provided them with documentation of proof of payment back in July. Today, I received a letter stating they will send me to collections if I do not pay the amount I already paid. read more

The entire staff was dismissive and unfriendly. They obviously have not been trained to smile. And they haven't been taught the word "hello" or "how are you today". I was not happy with the outcome of cataract surgery itself and paid $2000 for a corrective lens for 20/20 vision. ALSO, I was on the way to an appointment-- pre-surgery visit--when I learned my mother had died that very morning. Utterly shocked, I called to cancel and was told this was a very important appointment and I needed to come in today!! No shit Sherlock that's exactly what she said and wanted me to reschedule soon! My mom had just died. I was incredibly upset. And being the coldest medical staff on the planet, they called me more than once to reschedule. I was out of town for 2 months handling family affairs. I wish I had listened to my gut and not wasted money that I badly NEEDED. Now 3 years later, my eyes are much worse and I have NO idea what doc to go to. read more

I had a very good experience with Westlake Eye Specialists in Kyle. The staff was very friendly and professional. The office was very clean and cared for. They followed protocols to try and help keep us all safe in the pandemic. I appreciate that they were able to see me when I needed to be seen to help remedy an evolving situation with one of my eyes. They voluntarily disclosed the cost of the visit and potential cost depending on the treatment needed. The team was able to help me with my eye problem, talked through the treatment, and I felt taken care of. I recommend you consider Westlake Eye Specialists for your Eyecare needs. read more

Had the pleasure of visiting a well run and pleasant office today. Had an appointment with Liana Renteria, OD. Reason for visit was intermittent tearing left eye. Was impressed with their organization and efficiency. Very up to date equipment. All the personnel were friendly and welcoming and Dr Renteria was a gem. All took the time to listen when I spoke which is difficult for health care providers. Booked a follow up appointment happily. read more

They helped get me started on the road to a very complex and rare diagnosis. Dr. Stanciu instantly recognized that it was one of two diseases and got me started on medication and got me hooked up with the other specialists I needed in my support team. The front office and tech staff has always been helpful and I continue to use them as my ophthalmologist office for this reason. read more

The only shinning star in this office is the receptionist who I found warm, kind and professional. The doctors and tech deserves a MINUS 5 star rating! Very disappointing. I had the first appointment of the day I expected a little bit of a wait. The wait turned out to be One Hour then I was brought back to an exam room to wait some more. The tech and the doctor were arrogant and dismissive. I manage to arrive 10 minutes early for my set appointment and had a 45 minute drive. The tech and doctor arrived 20 and 30 minutes after my appointment time and still was made to wait another 30 minutes while they eat their catered breakfast. I give this place 1 star strictly because of the Office Staff. I had a 9:45 appointment for which I arrived early. I asked the receptionist if the Dr. I was scheduled to see was running on time and explained that I had a staff meeting to attend at 11:15 so I would have to be out and finished by 11:15 latest. She said no that won't be a problem you should be out of here by 1030, maybe sooner. That is a quote. After sitting in a waiting area for one hour, with not 1 office staff giving me any idea what was going on, I finally went to the front office area where 4 of them were all gathered laughing and drinking coffee. I mentioned that I had been sitting in a room for one hour with no one letting me know what was going on and I was leaving. One of them then said oh I'm sorry would you like to reschedule! Take my word for it - do not go to this place unless you found out that they fired their entire office staff. There are many bad reviews but I didn't listen to them and decided to try them anybae. Stay away from Dr. Natalie Stanciu!!!! I am still tramatimized from my appointment June of 2022. My appointment with her was to stitch up my eyelid after a tumor was removed. When I arrived for my appointment, she realized that she didn't have the experience needed for my procedure. She left me laying on the table for approximately 3 hours, lying to me that she couldn't proceed because I was bleeding and continuously administered deadening medication to the area while she panicked her next move. The truth was she had to call in a Dr. from New Braunfels to do a job she had just told me 2 weeks prior was "easy peezy". Once the "life saving" Dr. arrived, I was out of there in about 30 minutes. I would rate the business as the absolute worst business that I have dealt with in my 75 yrs on earth. I consider them to use unethical practices like low balling their cataract surgery costs,charging $50 for a small bottle of Omni drops, charging for post-op visits,but worst of all failing to talk to tHe patient to see what they expect from this surgery!
