My air conditioning was turning on, but not cooling. As expected, I google searched a company that specializes in repairing air conditioners in my area. I saw Westlake Heating and Air in Moneta. I figured since I'm new to the area, I would give them a shot. I scheduled a time to come by the house. I worked from home the day they came by so I was available to discuss the issue I was experiencing. He arrived and immediately went to the unit outside. He said the freon is reading low and I would need to put 3lbs in. I was on the phone with my dad. My dad told me to ask if he would look at the coils as well to ensure the freon was the issue. Makes sense since I just bought the house and not aware of the current condition of the a/c. The tech looked in the attic at the coils and determined the coils, in fact, do need to be cleaned. Once the coils were cleaned he would read the freon level again to see if there were changes since the dirty coils are likely throwing off the freon reading. He asked if I wanted to do a Spring and Fall inspection. I did not know at the time if I wanted to pay the $140 for two visits per year for inspections. In my mind, if it wasn't for my dad, I would have paid $250 and still had dirty coils and too much freon. Not to mention, my air conditioning would still not work. I decided I'll schedule a visit to clean the coils since I had to pay the $69 service call anyway. The tech said the cost to clean the coils would be $250 plus the $69 service call or the $140 if I decide to go with the two inspections per year. He mentioned the time to clean the coils would be 3-4 hours. When I called to schedule the visit, the lady in the office told me the cleaning the coils started around $250 and didn't know what the charge would be for my visit. I mentioned the tech said the cost would be $250 and she finally agreed to that price. She then asked if I wanted the contract for the two visits per year. I mentioned that I decided not to since every communication thus far is a fight to get the correct information. She responded that my service charge would be $85 then since the tech said he did a full inspection. The tech marked a full inspection to say he did 1 of the 2 visits per year for the contract. He didn't do a full inspection. If what he did is a full inspection then what is the $69 service change? To pull in the driveway and pull out again? I called later that week to request to speak to someone else about the situation. A man was given the phone and said, I meant to tell the lady making the appointments that you're right and will be charged $69 plus $250 to clean the coils. When I called back to confirm the appointment, she said that I would be charged the $85. I decided to cancel my appointment and call a recommended company Brown's in Lynchburg. Brown's came out and cleaned the coils for $90 and cleaned the drain pipes for $55. Brown's also replaced the capacitor. The house felt great by the time I made it home that evening. At this point, I'm starting to see the tech wasn't on the right track at all and I had to request he look into the coils. If it wasn't for my dad, where would I be? Out of a lot of money and with the same issue of no air conditioning. I then got a bill from Westlake Heating and Air Conditioning for $85. I called Westlake Heating and Air to let them know that I do not agree with the billing. I will pay for the $69 service call I received, but I will not pay for the $85 service call, cleaning, and inspection. I did not receive that service. The lady told me that she would reduce my bill to $69. I agreed to pay it as I received the service call (Not a good one) and wouldn't have resolved my issue. But, none the less. I did request the call and I learned my lesson along the way. I did mention that I would be leaving a review of my experience so other will be aware and can refer to the review if they would like. She said "I feel that you should not leave a review since I am working with you and reducing your bill to $69". I informed her that reducing my bill was giving me the correct billing and not "working with me". That I would pay the $69, but will leave a review of my experience. She then responded with "If you are going to leave a review, I am going to keep your bill at $85." My response was "If you bill me $85, I will file a complaint with BBB that you are billing for services that were not provided." She said she would agree with $69 and I gave her my payment method. She said the person who runs the credit card information would not be available to do so until the next day. I have this feeling that my credit card information is sitting on her desk written down on a piece of paper. She said she would email me an invoice once the payment is ran the next day. I asked who the guy you ran the payment was. Apparently, it is the owner. The owner emailed that he would call, but I never heard from him. read more
