I am writing this review as both a family member and a nurse because other families deserve to know how vulnerable residents are sometimes treated. Yesterday, when I dropped off my 75-year-old mother-in-law after celebrating my son's birthday, a staff member looked at her and smilingly asked, "Did your grandsons beat you up again?" My mother-in-law suffers from dementia. She lives with confusion, paranoia, fear, and memory loss every single day. Comments like this are not funny. They are cruel, inappropriate, and deeply disrespectful. What hurt the most is that this was said openly in front of family members. It immediately made me wonder how residents are spoken to when nobody is there to witness it. I can deal with missing clothes, lost blankets, or misplaced belongings. Those things can be replaced. What I cannot accept is the lack of compassion and dignity shown toward someone who is already losing so much of herself. This is a woman who once managed teams, traveled, raised a family, and lived a full life. No person deserves to lose their mind while also losing the respect they deserve as a human being. Families place loved ones in care facilities because they trust staff to provide safety, patience, and compassionate care during the most vulnerable stage of life. Dementia patients are not jokes. They are human beings deserving of kindness and dignity. I hope management takes this seriously and properly educates staff on dementia-sensitive communication and respectful treatment of elderly residents. Until then, I encourage families to pay close attention to how their loved ones are spoken to and treated. read more

Amazing as always! Staff are amazing, food was great, and the hospitality was excellent. They take such good care of my grandma! She did have one wish for the events, though: please turn the music down a lot. It makes it difficult for already hard of hearing residents to hear their family members. My mother-in-law suffers from dementia so when it came time to place her in memory care, we did our homework, took many tours, talked with staff, etc., because we didn't take placing her somewhere lightly; we wanted her to be well cared for, safe and happy. Pacifica ( now RIVERSIDE memory care ) checked all the boxes. She has been there for more than two years now, and we are more than pleased with the facilities, the activities and the staff. My mother-in-law is truly loved there; one of the aids MARIA even comes in on her day off to check on her and the med tech Virginia will do the same and it's not just my mother-in-law. They check on everyone in their cottage, this is the kind of environment that This facility is it's more like a home than a memory care facility, where the AIDS and the nurses treat the patients likes family. Every month there are special events where patients and family members have a dinner with entertainment, even raffles and prizes! I love my Mother dearly and I miss calling her for advice and comfort as she was and still is my rock: right next to God. But it's very gratifying to know that she's being taken care of at Pacifica Sr Living in Riverside. I often attend her great parties as my mom (Brenda) continues to enjoy the music and the entertainment gets everyone involved. They have summer events outside and it's so gratifying seeing all the residents and family members dancing with their love ones. My Moms in a wheelchair but it doesn't stop her from moving her arms and feet. I'm so happy we live close to this place because it's now her home but we share it with her every time we visit; which is often. I can tell my mom is loved by the way she smiles at the staff when they interact with her. Can't say enough good things about the staff and management because you can just see the TLC Tender Loving Care immediately when you park. My husband has been at this facility for almost 4 months. He has Parkinson's and dementia. Sometimes he can be abusive verbally with the staff there know how to work with that and always keep him calm. Jessica, Mae, Tony, Andrea, Catherine are amazing. I just hope corporate knows how hard these girls work. They have to love what they're doing to show up to work every day. I'm sure some days are very hard for them. I wish I could give them a raise, or a nice bonus, Annie who does the cleaning in the cottage always make sure everything is clean and smells good. My Dad was a resident from March 2019 until November 2019. We chose this place for him because we were assured the staff knew how to deal with Dementia patients. He was assigned to Cottage 5 where they showed the Golden Girls on TV as often as possible. As his disease progressed so did his intolerance of the Golden Girls. He started to become annoyed and aggressive with the other residents resulting in a move to another cottage we called Chaos. The residents walk around all day circling the unit, some doped up and groggy all the time. Residents would go into each others rooms to use the bathroom and steal things (my Dad was charted as stealing everyday at 3:00 pm, why not divert him at 3:00 pm?). We assumed he lost his wedding ring (staff had it, didn't say anything), lost his remote control to his tv, and was wearing clothing that didn't belong to him. He broke an Armoire cabinet because staff thought it was a good idea to put a lock on it, which is very CRUEL to do to a Dementia person in my opinion, and then charged him $400.00 for it. I just found out in talking with my sister that the staff told her that I said it was okay, THIS WAS NOT TRUE. One time I brought him home after an outing and found a naked female getting ready to lay down in his bed. Hence, the Chaos unit. As the progression of Dementia is increasing, my Dad has begun hitting people which I did witness as a soft tap with one of the residents because she was invading his space and he was trying to get her away from him, not ok, but witnessed by staff and not addressed. He was charted as hitting for several hours (hello people that know how to deal with Dementia very well, DIVERT him please!). At one point he hit another resident and I was told I had to remove him for 5 days and have him put on Ativan. The doctors at Kaiser and Arrowhead Community Hospital refused to put him on this strong addicting drug which is not good for the elderly. Social Services stepped in and told me I did not have to remove him and called them to remind them of it. After that, they tried to strong arm me into changing his insurance and using their doctor. Maybe a strong supporter of Ativan? We immediately lost trust in this institution and began a search for another place for my Dad. The walls were caving in and the lies were coming to light, he received eviction papers on his birthday. So if your loved one is high functioning and doesn't need to be watched good, this is a great place. The residents have free roam of the place. The cottage staff takes care of the more needy residents, but can't watch the more active ones and the layout of the place does not allow for constant supervision. That's what kind of place this is. My Dad left mid November and was due a refund, six months later, I'm still waiting for the check. So glad they are efficient :-( read more

Pacifica has quality care for their patients suffering from dementia. I have no complaints about the care my mother received. However, the administration and corporate offices leave much room for improvement. This is a very expensive care facility and payment is expected promptly. We always paid on time, when my mother passed away I quickly cleared her room and complied with the contract. They will not refund my payment. No one returns my phone calls from administration. They have breached the contract. She died on New year's eve, room empty on Jan 2nd. It is now Jan 18th. We paid for January on December 30th. I am tired of chasing these people around, we need the money for final expenses as the cost of her care has financially ruined us. Beware families. The pain goes on and on. read more

Debra at Pacifica is wonderful. My husband was in an abusive/neglectful board & care. I was looking for a safe place for him. Pacifica had too many high needs residents and couldn't take him but Debra went beyond what most would do. She connected me with a different board & care finding agency. Debra kept in touch and offered emotional support until he was placed in a wonderful board & care where he recovered the drastic weight loss suffered at the first b & c. If she is reflective of their other staff, I'd highly recommend their facility. read more

My mom has been a resident for the last 2 years. When she moved in I was very happy with her care. Meals were made that appealed to a senior's appetite and the activities were commensurate with her likes and abilities. Staff were helpful. The care ratio was adequate. Only 14 residents in her cottage. Three staff assigned during the day, two at the evening time, and 1 during the night. Shortly after moving in a new director took over. From then on I was truly disappointed. Staff continued to provide excellent care although they expressed fears about loosing their jobs; but the director (cost savings?) changed the menu. Meals were no longer 'prepared' in the cottage so the residents lost the sense of smell - to stimulate their appetites. They were fed prepared food heavy on carbohydrates and sodium. Mashed potatoes and pasta. I pleaded with the director to go back to freshly made meals. My own understanding of dementia clearly found that certain foods should be avoided. There is much research on beneficial foods for dementia patients. Thankfully, there is a new director who has made positive changes for the residents. Staff are no longer fearful of the director. They express their pleasure for working with him. AND food is prepared for the residents from scratch. No prepared corn dogs, Philly cheese steak sandwiches, etc. My mom is now in hospice, continues to be cared for by the same staff as when she first moved in, is in the same room and I am grateful for them. They care for each and everyone of the residents and the families. And they help me deal with this horrible disease. I recommend this facility to everyone I talk to who is dealing with the difficult problem of a loved one suffering from dementia. In fact, my mother-in-law is recently a new resident and is doing well. read more

I can't say enough positive about this facility. The level of care is exceptional. Although this is a dementia facility, the residents are grouped in cottages so the institutional look is non-existent. The facility is spotlessly clean with no stale odors whatsoever. The residents are up and dressed every day. Their beds are made every day and everything in their rooms is organized and cared for in a professional but caring manner. Our family member has been there about 3 years. She had a stroke about 2 months ago and currently is in a skilled-nursing facility. The entire time she has been away Pacifica staff have visited her on a regular basis and have been working with us to facilitate her discharge back to Pacifica. If you are looking for a facility to treat a memory-impaired family member, I urge you to consider Pacifica. read more

Riverside location being that it is a Memory care facility is unique in its presence. It consit of 6 cottages,ranging from the stage of dementia your loved one maybe at. Each cottage has well trained professional staff for 24 hour care. I have noticed many families enjoy this type of set up because it still has a "home" environment when they come to visit. Also the familes get to know the staff more on a one on one basis,which helps with peace of mind and security. My mom has been here for not quite a year. The staff in caring. My mom and others are well attended. One of the best social events they have is the monthly Sunday brunch. This past Sunday it was Mexican food and it was as good (or better) than any restaurant I have been to for a brunch like this. Taco bar, ceviche, enchiladas, churros, and mimosa! Yum. My father was here at Pacifica for 2 weeks. He suffered from severe dementia, however, he was mobile with the use of a walker. We were assured that during the first month, he would be carefully monitored to assess his needs to insure his placement was correct for his needs. However, without supervision, he wondered outside where he suffered a fall, which led to a severe broken leg, requiring the placement of a titanium rod extending from his hip to the knee. He never recovered and passed away two weeks later. We are very unhappy with the level of care he received at this facility. We do not believe there was enough staff to residents ratio. In the cottage my father was placed, the residents required much care as all were with severe dementia or Alzheimers, yet, they did not have enough staff to care or monitor the residents. read more

Months ago my wife and I noticed my father beginning to show signs of dementia while living in a very nice independent-living facility. He had long been diagnosed with COPD among other issues and was also becoming increasingly less mobile. We knew the days he would be able to remain under his current living conditions were numbered for him both physically and mentally. We began to tour "memory-care" facilities nearby so that we could make an informed decision when the time came. One of my father's hospice nurses recommended Pacifica Senior Living: Riverside Legacies Memory Care and, though a little further away from us then we had hoped, we liked her and appreciated her insight. As the episodes began to occur more frequently and with more confusion, shortly after Christmas it was apparent we needed to make a decision. We met with Debra and many other administrative staff and toured the facility and a single room we thought would best fit him. The nurse visited my father at the independent living facility and assessed his needs returning to say he would be a "perfect fit". While there, we completed most of the paperwork with the expectation of relocating my father after the beginning of the year but after continued discussion, decided to make the move the following day. The moving process was emotionally draining but the Pacifica staff worked quickly to prepare the room and were so caring and understanding of the quick transition. Once there with my father, the staff coordinated everything and communicated with us thoroughly. When we finally left later that night we were comforted by the feeling we absolutely made the best decision at the best time at the best facility available. My father finally succumbed to his illness and passed away three weeks later. The entire staff at Pacifica Senior Living must be commended on their compassion and professionalism above all else. Through this incredibly tough time my father was cared for with compassion, dignity, and respect and my wife and I continue to believe we absolutely made the best decision at the best time at the very best facility available. Above and beyond all expectations! This staff cares so much and are so friendly. You can tell how they all like their jobs as well as support each other. Their #1 priority is the health and mental well being of all the residents. The personal care and attention my mom got as well as what I got was far greater than expected. The staff provided excellent communication. All the fun activities were so great. My mom loved the food and the companionship. When my mom was at home she was alone, in bed all the time, and depressed. When she came here, new life was breathed into here. It was like she was becoming her old self again. She was happy, active, eating well, clean, and having fun. When my mom passed, the staff was just as sad as we were to lose her. They developed a personal loving relationship with her. My mother entered this facility a physically healthy woman on July 9, 2014. She suffered from dementia but her body was only 69 years old and healthy. On Aug. 12, 2014, 34 days after she entered this facility she died. I hold Pacifica Senior Living and its staff 99% responsible for her death. The second day my mother was there, she fell (on the slippery, hardwood floors) and hit her head. Due to the limited staff, they immediately confined her to a wheelchair where she developed bed sores because she sat in her urine and feces. They tell you there are 3 staff members per cottage of 14 residents, but truly there is only one. The other is a floater who floats around all 5 cottages as the "3rd" staff member and then there is the nurse who spreads her time equally between all 5 cottages. So if someone needs to be changed or turned, they have to wait until another caregiver is available to assist. They did not bathe my mother because they assumed Hospice was doing this. Hospice assumed Pacifica was doing this. After 8 days without a bath, I finally helped the hospice aide in bathing my mother. To relieve the pressure from her bed sores on her bottom, they moved her to her bed where she developed bed sores on her back and the heels of her feet because they were not turning her. She never walked again. She lost the desire to eat and drink. I was spending the night with her to make sure was getting fluids. I had to spoon feed her water as they rarely came in to care for her needs. They assumed I would do this. When I suggested they turn her to relieve the pressures on her sores, they were not gentle in any way. The were fast and rough. This caused her so much pain as she suffered from arthritis and fibromyalgia. There was only one graveyard caregiver that showed her compassion, sensitivity and gentleness. If I wasn't brushing her teeth, I would ask them to, at which point they would proceed with no bedside manner whatsoever. I was forced to give Pacifica Senior Living one star because there was no option for zero stars. I'll just say, if you're looking to speed up the demise of a loved one, take them to Pacifica Senior Living! read more
