Nice place with really wonderful patio. There's some swanky glass that allows either open window style air flow and can close off to create a solarium sort of vibe for inclement weather days. Their food was really good, truffle fries are quite rich and flavourful, same with the beef carpaccio. I don't think the menu mentions it comes with these sliced toasted baguettes which were topped with olive oil and balsamic glaze. Service was slightly disappointing as our service was quite flat. Two instances, both not the fault of our server, but the bar had a friend a drink in a dirty glass, she ordered a clear drink but it was brown tinged, and had a weird flavour. Multiple people at the table tried it before we told the server that it seemed off. It was slightly off putting, but our server went back and got a new one for my friend. Second thing, they said they updated their POS so for some reason the person who had the most alcoholic drinks had been put in with a really high autogratuity, but it was strange because everyone else at the party had the regular autograt of 20% I believe and the only person who was drunk ended up getting 30% or something of the sort. Our server again, amazing and took care of it working with the manager who fixed it and came to apologize but the optics of that only happening to the one drunk person if the party, well you know. I like this restaurant on thanksgiving especially. They have a nice turkey dinner with amazing moist but fluffy stuffing. I tasted their steak and it was good but unfortunately I've been spoiled by having Texas and Calgary steaks which can't be beat. This is my favourite street in all of Vancouver, a stroll through mainland makes you feel like you're walking in a movie set and a date night at many of the restaurants transforms you into the star of the production. Went to this restaurant on a Saturday night with reservations. The hostess seated us quickly and water was served within 4 minutes and our waiter came by not a minute later and took our order. The four of us ordered 2 lamb shanks and the two chicken dishes. The lamb shank was delicious and I found the veggies a bit over cooked. There was lots of sauce for the lamb and veggies. I had the tomato soup which was delicious and large. I jut wanted a cup but I got the full bowl. This is a $$$ restaurant. The place was packed to the rafters and it was filled with 20 to 35 year old people. Is is great place to eat but everyone had to use a loud voice to be heard. Came here for a friend's birthday and we sat on the patio. Because it was a winter day, it was great because they ensured to set it up so it was warm enough for people. Service was wonderful... our server was great and she checked on us a few times as well. It's not an overly large restaurant. Some spot in it can be a bit tight on walking space but overall gives a lively vibe. I tried the vegan gyoza and a rose sangria. It is a bit pricey to be quite honest for what I got in my dish ($20 for the gyoza) and it was okay. I found the gyoza to be a bit bland but the sauce itself made it better. ***Update 7/14/2022*** Came here for dinner tonight. In truth, I didn't even remember coming here before (my memory is totally shot lol). Thank goodness for my past Yelp review and check-in! My Seattle friends and I had such a lovely dinner here tonight. Made the reservation in advance via Open Table (love the convenience of that site!). We were seated on time and our server was Jayden. And seriously, she couldn't have been any nicer. She was amazing. Even offered to take our photos (we said okay, as long as she made us look like HER! She was stunning, and seriously, so so nice). Anyhow, onto the food.... All our dishes were delicious. On Jayden's recommendation, we started with the Prawns Chinois (I had forgotten having them before. Hey, it was 2.5 years ago!). We all agreed, these were the highlight of the meal. They were beyond delicious. I thought to myself, I MUST return here for Happy Hour just to have these prawns. The were plump, crispy on the outside, soft and moist inside, with the most amazing seasoning, both sweet and kick-y. Amazing. My friend ordered pearl barley salad with salmon and she loved it. My other friend ordered the salmon and she also loved her dish, saying it was perfectly cooked and seasoned. I had a burger (I had a hankering) and it was plump and juicy, with crispy bacon, some lettuce and a tomato sauce, and a delicious sauce. It was so filling I could only eat 1/3 of it, and I brought the rest home. I opted to get fries with the burger (I had my choice of fries or side salad). I mist say, the fries were a disappointment: limp, soft, tepid. Next time, I'd go for the salad, for sure. I was so full from the burger so it didn't really matter that the fries were sub-par. My friend ordered some Brussel sprouts with bacon for the table and these were delicious. Oh, and we all ordered their sangria which was excellent. A perfect drink for a hot, summer day. The brunch menu was decent. We all ordered mimosas and they were heavier on the OJ than the sparkling wine. I ordered the Country Skillet. The steak has a decent flavor and it came with their version of home fries and a poached egg. The home fries were more like new potatoes but were very hot (temperature) and had a good flavor, although I wouldn't have guessed garlic Parmesan. The menu says the item has chimichurri sauce and succotash. I had neither on mine, but did have grilled peppers and onions, which was not called out on the menu. Such a negative slash bizarre experience here. Late afternoon on 6/28/25 we stumbled upon this restaurant and decided to have a late lunch. The hostess said I'll be right back to help you so we waited out front for her, meanwhile a large party walked past us and inside. As we waited and waited we finally saw her seating them on the patio so we went inside too. We told her we thought maybe we should come in since she never came back for us and she said, "Those people walked in, what was I supposed to do, tell them I'll be right back I have to go outside to help someone else?" I was like, "...probably..." and she just went, "it's no worries," like I was apologizing for something rather than waiting for her apology. So odd. We were visiting Vancouver the weekend and stumbled across West Oak on OpenTable. Thankfully, we made a reservation at 515 on a Friday night. We were going to be late so tried calling the restaurant to let them know, but couldn't get through to anyone so messages through OpenTable with no response. We showed up at the restaurant at 533 and they had already given our table up so be on time! We also didn't realize that bar top seats were included in reservations so we weren't even able to walk in and sit at the bar top. They did end up finding us a table in the bar area (thank you!) We ordered calamari from the happy hour menu. The breading was light for the larger pieces of meat. Some were rubbery because of this. Definitely enjoyed the jalapeños mixed in and the garlic aioli dipping sauce. I ordered the scallops with quinoa and squash purée. It was really delicious with a hefty portion of quinoa. Was a great portion size for the price ($35 CAN). My boyfriend ordered the maple soy sablefish after discussion with the server on what was better (she picked this over their other sablefish special). We were a little disappointed in the portion size for the price ($34 CAN). The way the potatoes were served was interesting, it was almost like a large hash brown with some Asian undertones. The three spears of asparagus and carrots also didn't seem like a lot when compared to my plate. He ended up leaving hungry unfortunately. The atmosphere was great, servers we had were pleasant and not overbearing. Like every restaurant vaccine card and ID are needed to enter (different than US and we weren't mad about this!) They still social distance and use digital menus. I think what really them down for me was the food. Appetizer: Gyoza and Tuna. The gyoza was ok...I've had much better..average. The tuna was not only dry but tasted frozen. In a seafood place in Vancouver...frozen seafood?! Mains: Lamb Shank and Seafood Pappardelle. The lamb shank had absolutely no seasoning whatsoever. No salt. Nothing. So, it tasted very bland. It came with mashed potatoes and they were instant. A restaurant such as West Oak really shouldn't serve instant potatoes. So, that was very disappointing. I love lamb and was looking forward to trying it there. The seafood pappardelle was on the verge of having gone cold. The pasta was so overcooked that it didn't look like pappardelle as it had completely lost its texture and body. It also was too oily and again no seasoning at all. It was served with 5 tiny muscles, two prawns and a piece of salmon which again was dry and bland. This was my dish and honestly it was terrible. I actually had made two other reservations there, as I for some reason felt this place would blow me away, but after that one experience the food was a real minus, so unfortunately I cancelled both reservations. Went here with my friend yesterday for brunch. Didn't seem overly busy, there was a large group and a few other tables on the patio. Decent section of food, food was decent. However we waited a really long time for our food to be served, which can happen which is why people check on their food. I asked the server if it was normal to wait almost and hour for food since it seemed like everyone around us was being served except for us. By that time I had already extended my 1 hr parking. The server politely said that he would go check in our order right away since it shouldn't take that long. I had been to West Oak at least once before and had a decent experience, and I thought it would be a good opportunity to go with my parents and try their Dine Out Vancouver, Lunch option. You may imagine my unamused surprise when we arrived and found out their advertised lunch option for Dine Out Vancouver was only available Monday to Friday. While other restaurants did have that note on their respective Dine Out Vancouver pages, there was no such note for West Oak restaurant. Even when I put in the note on our OpenTable reservation that we were going there for Dine Out (they can ask you whether you are celebrating a special occasion), there was no contact from the restaurant to let me know their option was only available on weekdays. Okay lesson learned: they do not read comments in the reservation program and I was just previously spoiled by all the other restaurants that do readily pay attention to those things. Could the onus have been more on me, the customer, to check if Dine Out was an option for lunch on weekends? Yes definitely, and I will take that going forward. My parents were good sports about it, and we stayed and ordered three Yaletown Breakfasts. We were able to customize the eggs, so we had scrambled, poached, and hardboiled between the three of us. When it came time to choose the meat, my parents both opted for bacon and I wanted to try the menu listed chicken & apple sausage only to be told there was none available, only chorizo sausage, which I accepted. (At this point in my experience, I wasn't even surprised). When our breakfasts arrived, I noticed my poached eggs were the equivalent of poached medium. I would not have batted an eyelash, except my mother's hardboiled eggs were more like poached hard. Ah, next lesson learned: nobody there will advise you of different options available for poached eggs, so I will need to ask if I go there again. Even though I had specifically ordered the chorizo sausage, all three of our options came with bacon. The waitress ran off before I could signal her that something was wrong. Unfortunately we were seated in the outside heated patio area. With the long layout of the restaurant, I had to wave a few times before I finally caught her eye. I would have been fine if they took back the plate and replaced the bacon with the sausage, but she offered to have me keep the bacon and brought out the one lone chorizo sausage. Kudos to her if that was done as part of a peace offering, I think she could see I was less than impressed by that time. The Yaletown Breakfast was a decent standard fare. Poached eggs were expectedly runny, the fries (or baby potatoes) were salty and accompanied with ketchup, and the bacon surprisingly not salty. True to the menu, the accompanying sourdough toast was just that: toast. No sides of butter or jam or peanut butter spread. Admittedly after seeing so many other places serve their toast either pre-buttered or place trays of jams and spreads for you to choose from, I was left wondering if the sourdough toast was meant to be served as rock hard plain toast or if butter/spreads were available, but the customers were expected to ask for it themselves. If anyone is interested in trying West Oak for the first time, I would have to say that the restaurant atmosphere seems nice and intimate, but I would have to advise them that the onus is placed on the patron. Call up the restaurant to check the event is actually taking place, or call up the restaurant to make sure they know you are celebrating a special occasion (if that is the case). Don't expect anyone to read the comments section if you are reserving online. Lastly, don't bother trying their Dine Out lunch menu option unless you are in the area on a weekday. read more

Dropped by for HH on a Thursday given the packed patio. We grabbed some seats at the bar and ordered a Sauv Blanc, Standard Mule and Calamari off the HH menu. The calamari was meaty and super tender. Some of the best calamari I've had. Our bartender was really pretty and super awesome. She got us in and out within our 30 minute timeframe. Ordered multiple times from West Oak and its really just a hit or miss. I ordered a chicken with mashed potatoes and the mashed potatoes was so bomb with the sauce. The chicken was overcooked. Also ordered a steak and the steak came out to be really dry. Stakcan be a hit or miss when you order takeout or delivery which I get, but the chicken? The sautéed vegetables that came in both dishes were absolutely delicious. Since I had a great feeling about the sautéed mushrooms, I ordered a wild mushroom fettuccine last night. There was no taste to the pasta, a few sprinkles of cheese and some sautéed mushrooms. Mushrooms were good on its own but with little to no sauce to them mixed with the pasta, the dish was not worth $26 at all. If I had time to cook at home, I could have easily made the same thing for $5. The two slices of grilled/toasted bread was so rock hard but it was hot when it arrived. Great looking brunch menu! Chose West Oak because of the location, post workout and it did not disappoint. Ordered the lobster benny and Brussels sprouts and both were delicious. The lobster meat was cooked perfectly and there was a decent helping. The bread wasn't a typical English muffin, not sure what was used as it was flatter, but nicely buttered. Egg was cooked underdone on one but perfectly on the other. Potatoes came with the Benny and one piece of watermelon. Aside from the actual lobster Benny, the accompanyments were disappointing. If you're going to put 1 slice of watermelon, sure hope it's sweet and has some flavor, potatoes were underdone and inconsistent. The brussel sprouts were perfectly roasted and seasoned with crisp bacon and parm. Happy hour review only! 3-6pm errrrrrday you can come and get happy in Yaletown style at the lovely West Oak. Great deals on full sized appetizer, house wine, rotating rose, highballs and Mules. I enjoyed the Rose, which I believe was from Grey Monk. The house wine is unfortunately Peller Family, and if you have read some of my reviews you may have heard how much I dislike this wine. If it's for you, it will cost you $5 (I wouldn't pay that for this wine lol). Food!! Oh man!! The yummiest most succulent and tastebud exploding prawns live here! So good we ordered them twice. You absolutely must try their Chinois Prawns $7.5. Sooooo good! Also had the Crispy Calamari $7 and the Burrata and Prosciutto $8.5. Everything was good! The calamari I thought could have had more seasoning or spice or something... something was missing. I just really appreciated the full sized servings as apposed to a deal which really equals a tiny portion. Service is too notch and this Restaurant and bar is full of beautiful staff, men and women. A little eye candy for everyone ;) lol There is a patio as well, but it is enclosed and was in the shades during our visit. I assume they likely remove the plastic enclosure when the weather is warmer. I would say West Oak has a very strong happy hour that I would highly recommend! Give it a go. Excellent service, food and location! I've been here a few times. Dressed up and casual and always treated like a queen. They have a great dining room with several different options of experience. The lively bar, intimate dining room and/or the action paced kitchen bar. *We ordered the halibut, tenderloin, risotto, tuna crudo and beautifully crafted cocktails and wines. *The staff here know how to make you feel appreciated! the start of julia's bday celebrations lol. it coincided with easter long weekend this year so hey why not. meet up with m, who i haven't seen for a while. she gets sick way too easily. anywhos, dinner at west oak because i haven't been nor has she. we were seated right away because we made reservations and i checked my coat in. we were seated at an awk spot - basically right beside the speakers. i sat on the couch side and while the couch was super comfy, it was rly low and didn't rly have support so take note. other than that, our server was super attentive and came around with water. i ordered one of my favs - g&t. this was a lavender rosemary g&t using one of my fav local gins - the victoria empress gin. the one that changes colour once you add something acidic to it. m doesn't drink so she ordered a mocktail, which was delicious as well since i took a sip. we ordered an appy to share and mains. for the appy, we ordered the mussels frites. tbh i like chambar's mussels more. not to say that these were bad but just my opinion. but i do like west oak's fries! our server gave us some extra bread to finish the mussel sauce with. the sauce was a very tomato based one with sun dried tomatoes in it. there was supposed to be pesto as well but it got overpowered by the tomatoes. next up - the mains. i ordered the lobster linguine, which was also tomato-based. different sauce that the mussels one as i saw cherry tomatoes in my sauce. there was a good amount of lobster meat and a decent portion of linguine as well. you also get two pieces of bread to soak the sauce. fresh pepper and parmesan was a nice touch. m ordered the truffle mushroom risotto and she added chicken with it. the risotto itself was a bit undercooked but the truffle and mushrooms definitely added an oomph to the dish. overall it was good - m said the chicken was kind bland. solid restaurant and our server was super nice and charming throughout so that definitely helps! bday dinner #1 read more
