I haven't been to Earls in awhile, but glad to be back. The menu has definitely changed and for the better. There is now a variety from classics like a burger to sushi. Everything tasted great from the shared wings to the burger. My favourite was the yuzu calamari. Price definitely went up, but the food was good and the service was friendly. A bonus that they served a little dessert, for free, when it's your birthday. They have a really, really small parking lot so the better option is to park at the side street. Times do get busy so it's better to book a table than do a walk-in. read more

Creamy with a bit of smokiness, and easy to keep going back to between sips. Service kept things moving and didn't feel rushed, even with the place being pretty lively. Quite often we get a craving for a sumptuous steak, fish n chips, or their sushi (yes I know, smh at myself but BF is not a raw fish lover); but more often than not, we crave their Cajun blackened chicken - juicy tender thighs rubbed with seasoning and done just right, served atop warm potato salad and creamy kale and shredded slaw. It's annual tradition to go for Father's Day brunch at Earl's on Fir. You just know what to expect. This morning my wife's potatoes on her avocado benedict was super salty. The staff confirmed that the entire pre made batch of potatoes was indeed too salty. Corinne one of the managers not only substituted with yam fries and new potatoes she picked up the entire tab plus free desserts. Replacement potatoes I expected, but the entire bill comped and free deserts. This is above and beyond. The server Olya was very good and apologized for her service. I reassured her it was not the service. It's no wonder I still dine at Earl's on Fir since the 1980s. Keep it up Earl's. This was my third time at this location. The tuna poke bowl was downright delicious! No complaints as all the ingredients complement each other spectacularly. I'm especially impressed by how well the mango pairs with the Ahi tuna. The pizza was pretty solid but was a bit too salty because of the Prosciutto. May just be personal preference and I would get the margarita pizza instead. Crust is crunchy and soft, perfect for my taste. In general, the price wasn't exorbitant but not cheap either. However, taking a closer look it seems like some mains and desserts are a bit too pricey for what they are. Our waitress was attentive and regularly checked on us to ask us how we thought of the food and for water refills. One thing to note: the food took a bit longer than I liked (20+ mins) but I've encountered worse. Although our experience was actually pretty decent, my past experiences at this location and others have definitely fluctuated with this being one of the better ones. I came by on a Sunday for happy hour. They have their own parking lot but it was full. I was in the area anyway for other reasons so this didnt bother me, but it would be annoying if you wanted to park there; street parking can be annoying to find around here. We asked our server if they were just dealing with understaffing issues. He literally said no, everything is normal. Meaning they intentionally understaffed it. We only ordered food, no drinks, from the happy hour menu: yam fries - pretty standard. served with a mayo based dip citrus noodle bowl with chicken - cold glass noodle dish with a piece of grilled chicken breast - this was good and refreshing actually. prosciutto+arugula pizza - this was not bad at all. Not neopolitan style, but think of it like a good homemade thin crust pizza. tuna sushi taco - this is basically like a tuna handroll but instead of a nori sheet, they use a soy based wrap. not bad. crab cake - actually, quite tasty. It was not all crab though, also had shrimp in it. Overall, food is a pretty solid 3.5-4/5. Pretty good. Problem is the value. Im paying happy hour prices, and it already seems a tad expensive, especially when the service was so lacking. Of all the local western casual chains, I like Earl's the best for the food. But echoing other reviewers, definitely the prices have gone up, service has gone down, and therefore overall value is down. We had lunch at Earls yesterday. For background, my family has regularly been coming to this location since the late 1990s when we were initially impressed by their amazing service and good food at decent prices. Over time, the food has for the most part stayed good but the service has definitely been declining. Sadly, yesterday's lunch is the last meal we plan to eat there. When we arrived, it was Friday lunchtime. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant was quite full, but we didn't have to wait for a table[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. We were seated and given menus and then we waited. And waited. The young woman who we eventually learned was our server, spent a lot of time rushing back and forth past our table to give other tables their bills or talk to them. She also seemed to spend a lot of time staring at her tablet with other servers. At one point she said hello as she rushed past but didn't actually stop. I saw her speak to a colleague who came over to give us water and he said she was helping another table but that she'd be right over. After more waiting, she finally came over. She gave us a sort of apology and made some excuse about a "new system" the restaurant was using, then she took our food and drink orders. We resumed waiting. My seat was in view of the bar. After a reasonable amount of time, I saw our drinks waiting to be brought to us. Although our server was often near the bar, the drinks sat a good 10 minutes before someone else brought them to us. About 25 minutes after we ordered, we were able to flag her down to ask when our food was coming. Without actually apologising for the wait, she said she'd check on it. She arrived a couple of minutes later with the food, again with no apology about the delay. My mother was happy with her chicken wings. They looked good and she said they were hot and delicious. My husband had the Sesame Citrus Noodle Bowl with crispy tofu. His food was also good and the tofu was indeed crispy and hot. I had the Grilled Chicken Caesar with garlic chicken. It tasted good but the chicken was barely warm making me think it was sitting while the other dishes were finished. As well, the bread on the side was so hard it was difficult to bite into, so I gave up on that. At no point while we ate did our server check to see how our meal was or if there was anything else we would like. When we could, we stopped her to ask for our bill as that seemed to be the only thing she did for anyone in a timely manner. The bill did come reasonably quickly and as we were paying, she gave us an overly effusive apology again blaming the "new system" and promising that she would do better next time. I haven't been to an Earl's restaurant in nearly 5 years. I had poor experience in the past with both the quality of food and the service. Today, I took a chance on going to the West Broadway location. I was shocked to see halibut and chips listed for $43, or 50% more than the prices in other restaurants. My wife ordered the fish and it was so dry, we had to send it back and ask For a replacement. I had a Santa Fe chicken salad and the chicken was overcooked, and the greens certainly didn't taste very fresh. The restaurant was 75% empty and it still took 10 minutes to find a server to get our final bill. My own fault for wasting $100 today. read more

The service made the night!! We're a family of 4 with very busy lives. We don't get out for dinner much. We decided to head out on a Friday night and we can all find something at earls. From the minute we walked in the staff were as friendly as always. We ordered and my son's (a very picky eater) dinner had something in it that wasn't listed on the menu he didn't like. There were some challenges from there and the staff went way above and beyond to make sure we were happy. We will definitely be back. One line review: It was all right. Dining in a restaurant dining room during the omicron spike of the pandemic was not an option for me. I am immuno-compromised because of medicines which suppress my immune system. So we thought we'd try delivery (not our usual way). We ordered the Buy one-Get one Burger Bundle via DoorDash. It /sounded/ like a good deal -- buy a burger, fries, and a drink and get one of each free. I figured a total cost in the $20-30 range. Reality was less awesome. After we added avocado, cheese, and bacon to each burger, the total (including delivery and tip) was $45. That's not awful for a burger, fries, and a drink for two in Vancouver, but it's hardly a deal. I can't imagine paying the full price for this and feeling glad about it. The burger itself was decent but not remarkable in any way beyond the bacon, which was thick and flavourful. The fries are cut thinner and were (understandably) cold by the time they reached us, but we popped them into an air fryer and they reheated and recrisped nicely. But being cut thin, they also cooled off amazingly quickly, so that was a wash. The food was packaged neatly, in sturdy, compostable containers. Bottom line: Didn't hate it, but this was overpriced and we would not do it again. read more

Perfect location to go happy hour on a patio on a sunny day! The hostess and server (Sophia) were so friendly and attentive. The patio had a lot of seats, even if you didn't want to be in the sun but near there you can so with their open dining doors. I really liked the sushi tacos and queen bee pizza! I will start off by saying that I do like Earl's and when everything is running smoothly it's a great place to grab a bite. But when things aren't running smoothly it can make your visit one that you might regret. My last visit was a couple of weeks ago where i was meeting up with a buddy for lunch. There was only me and one other customer out there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Server had made eye contact shortly after I was seated but didn't come over until I had been seated for about 10 minutes. Friend arrived shortly after and server took my order for wings and burger, and my buddy's order for wings and a beer. He hadn't decided on his main. The server asked if I wanted my burger to come out with the wings and i advised her that it could come out whenever my friend's main course came out. She comes back with his beer and he placed his order for a Caeser salad. 10 to 15 minutes later his Caeser arrives followed shortly after by our wings...no sign of my burger. I finish my wings....still no burger. My friend finishes his salad and wings.....still no burger. The server comes over and asks if we would like anything else and we ask where is my burger. Her response was that things were a little off in the kitchen but that she would go and check on it. She comes back and says that she hadn't entered my order for my burger as she thought my friend was going to order something else....which he did...the Caeser salad. She tells us that she can put the order in now but we were done and ready to go....we had been there for an hour and a half....so we told her to forget it. This is the second time this has happened to me at this location. Service definitely needs to improve. read more

This was my first time at an Earl's. It was about what I expected in terms of the atmosphere (it's almost trying to be upscale but not very hard) and that the food was very good but still overpriced for what it was. I had the Vegan Tempura Shroomami Bowl, an Italian Spritz, and the Celebration Cake. All three are things I would recommend and I was surprised by how inventive the menu was overall. I thought the ingredients in the Shroomami Bowl were really interesting and the bowl was very tasty and satisfying. The Italian Spritz was also neat - I liked that even though this drink was non-alcoholic, it had the interplay of bitter and sweet that you'd expect from a cocktail with alcohol. The salted toffee frosting on the cake was really good. The frosting was honesty layered on a little thick in places but it was such a nice frosting that I didn't mind as much as I probably should have. The frosting combined with the honeycomb pieces made this a surprisingly memorable cake!All that good stuff being said, you're basically paying what I'd consider to be fine-dining prices, and while the food was top-notch for the setting, it wasn't quite on the level that would justify the price, nor was the experience enough to make up for it. They were very accommodating with my party's reservation - we originally booked a table for 5, and then the day of, 2 people who had originally declined the invite decided they wanted in, and I called about an hour and a half before our reservation to ask if they could fit 7. They did it without making a big deal, and since we were running ahead of schedule I asked if they could bump us up half an hour which they also did with no fuss! The actual experience with the service while we were dining was a little awkward. Our waitress was nice but in a way that felt forced, and at the end she made a comment (I can't remember the exact wording) basically telling us to leave feedback letting her know what she could have done better, but I think we all felt awkward because her wording made it sound like we did something to make her think she did a bad job, which I don't think was the case? And then she immediately left without giving us a chance to actually give any feedback or telling us where we should submit it. At one point they also brought us two drinks we didn't order and then at the end almost charged us, but the waitress caught that before anyone actually paid and brought the two of us that were affected new bills. Not a big deal but I was confused about how this happened and it just added to the overall awkwardness of the vibe with the service. I would go back here since I really did enjoy the food and the setting of the restaurant itself is nice, but the service was admittedly a little wonky and you can get a better overall experience for your dollar elsewhere. read more

Yesterday, a group of my friends and I went to Earls for their Thanksgiving dinner as our families weren't getting together for large meals due to Covid. The food was ok, some of us enjoyed it more than others. However while we were in the middle of eating our desserts, a cockroach crawled up from the side of the table and ran across the entire table. A few of my friends and I gasped and a man who was clearly an employee at Earls saw us, grabbed my friends napkin and squashed the cockroach. He apologized and quickly walked away with the napkin in hand. While we appreciated that one of us didn't have to kill the bug, not only did he or a manager not return to address this issue... he didn't even return to give my friend a new napkin while she still had to finish her dessert. I don't think there's much else to say about why I am leaving a 2 star review. I understand that sometimes there isn't much an establishment can do about an occasional bug here and there, but they could definitely make up for those mishaps with a more formal apology and a gesture to try to make things right. read more

I loooove this Earls location (Firls for all my locals!), especially in the summer with their patio. During covid times, all the staff are masked, there's plexiglass in between each table, and all the tables sat are socially distant. I dined in last night with two friends, specifically for the 1/2 bottle wine deal and some burgers. We took full advantage of the wine deals, by ordering more than a few bottles of The Show Malbec. We were sat in the lounge and served by Rob. He was awesome and probably one of the sweetest servers I've had in a really long time. The night lead Lav also came and chatted with us for a bit and we had some fun banter going back and forth. Hats off to these two for awesome service! I've tried numerous things from their menu over the last few years, but on my particular visit last night, we were feeling burgers. For myself, I got the beyond meat burger with yam fries, and my two carnivorous pals got the bacon cheeseburgers. This was my first time getting the beyond meat burger here and I wasn't the biggest fan, to be honest. The bread was really hard and cold and the beyond patty felt really dry. So it's been some time that I've been to Earls for Wings Wednesday, and I'm glad that my friends and I chose the Broadway and Fir location to share an afternoon. The touchless host station, with a barrier was a nice touch to finally see some smiles in a Restaraunt. When going to a chain restaurant, consistency of service and food quality are things I like to see. Credit to the management at this location, as the service and follow up was timely and on point. During these unusual circumstances in our world, we've ordered many times for pick up & been thoroughly pleased every time! 20% pick up for regular menu items & groceries eg. Pantry items, food kits, frozen meat packages etc. 30% off for Health Care workers. Happy Hour items not included but are a fabulous deal already!! We're very impressed with how efficient & accurate all orders have been & the quality of all their products!! There is clearly marked an Order & Pay area & a Pick Up Area. The staff will even write/notes on the bag to personalize the experience. Went for supper, ordered my steak medium done. it was well done, not an ounce of moisture or juice like a medium cooked has. Sent it back, but the lady manager came back with my steak and said it was medium done because they use thermometers to tell how much it is cooked. I cut inot the middle of the steak and it was still dry. After educating me on how steak is cooked, she finally says she will have another ste made, left my plate so I can try the stea. Came back with my steak cooked mediumbut no potatoes or vegetables. had to eat the cold ones that came with my original orde.
