I love their Hot & Sweet mustard. I first had it at Klein's Deli on Potrero Hill. I asked them what brand it was and my mustard world has never been the same since. We stopped by in late November, not realizing they have a minimum purchase for retail sales. A case (12 jars) was more than we could use and share; however, the gentleman who explained this to us was extra nice and polite and told us all the places their mustard can be found in our area. We've purchased single jars of the "Sweet and Hot" in local grocery stores but now we are also hooked on the "Seeds and Suds." Mendocino Mustard is like no other. Both the Hot & Sweet and the Suds & Seeds varieties are the perfect tangy, spicy condiment. The Hot & Sweet is a staple in my house, and has been since I was a kid. It's a little bit sweet, but the spice adds enough kick that every thing evens out. I love the texture too. Sometimes mustard seems too thin to me, but Mendo Mustard is perfectly thick, but still spreadable. I'm not sure how useful it is to review a mustard on YELP! because, really, you don't GO to a mustard and yelp is more for places you go to but I couldn't NOT review this mustard. Somewhere near 20 years ago, Trader Joe's started carry this beauty making it affordable to my poor, starving college-going self. I'll admit, I was mostly intrigued by the fact that it had been featured in the fridge of what's-his-face on the Movie, "Fight Club." And, Mendocino had always held a certain mystery and awe for me. I brought the mustard home where it sat on my shelf for nearly ever, which is fine because it's such a stable produce it never goes bad. The top will start too look funny, but you just stir and refrigerate after opening and it's all good. One day, my crazy room mate, who was really into massive salads with homemade dressing (I taught her how to make the dressing I learned t make in Paris while working as a nanny and it used dijon), was out of her dijon so she riffled through my cabinets and found the MM SWEET HOT mustard and threw it in the dressing instead. Holy REVELATIONS Bat Man! My salad dressing was good but this shit was DA BOMB! It completely and utterly converted me. I don't really use any other mustard now. It is so versatile a mustard that it kind of goes on everything. You can go savory or sweet with it and if you want to go really savory you can get the seeds and suds. The seeds and suds actually tastes really good just plain on a spoon...not kidding. Also, it emulsifies your dressings like no other mustard can, and, depending on where you get it, it's a decent price. Get some, eat it. Put is in dressings, use it in marinades - whatever! You might be familiar with this company's products because they had a very brief role in Fight Club, but Mendocino Mustard is so much more than a cameo in a fridge. Mendocino Mustard is a fabulous local character which makes all of their products locally. I happen to be a huge fan of Seeds and Suds, which goes really well with corned beef and cabbage. The thick texture makes the Hot and Sweet a perfect spread, and the flavor is quite distinctive and rather excellent. read more

I am a military spouse, from northern California. I have been on the move, away from the west coast, for over 10 years. I have never found another mustard like the Hot and Sweet, and the good Lord knows I've tried.
