I've been buying parts from them for many years now and sending the customers too last week I sent them a new customer to get a carburetor rebuilt kit. Easy.. NO! They sold him two needles and tree gaskets for $85.00. That's a rip off! The kit is only $45. At summit racing parts! There are only two speed shops in L.A. the other in Lakewood. Or we can also try places like Npd or classic industry. I always try to support the small shops! But Westside has lost my business! And the business of my hot rod friends too! I called them today to buy high temp spray adhesive to lay down some thermal matting. They are listed on Thermo-Tecs website as a distributor. http://www.thermotec.com/results_list.php?pageno=5&&state=CA&order=name&radius=100 I spoke to someone and he said go to Homedepot and get spray adhesive there. I told him headers get hot under the floor and it will melt regular spray adhesive. It's fine letting kids hang out at your shop but they shouldn't answer questions hand the phone to an adult. read more

I have an old Bronco that had a transmission issues no one could really diagnosis. These guys were able to figure out that part of the problem was due to the carb cable not being routed properly (which three other shops missed). They rerouted the cable and recommended a transmission shop to fix the actual transmission. read more

Stopped in becasue I needed a gasket and speedometer gear for my TH350 tranny. Problem is it's not original equipment for my car. All the other stores wanted to know what yr and couldn't figure it out even though it's one of the most common transmissions used in GM cars. Anyways. After about 5 minutes the guy that worked there found the part and it only cost a couple of bucks. He also gave me advice on my restoration as far as what performance parts were compatible with my car and what salvage yards were good for finding them. This is a real speed shop with guys that turn wrenches, have greasy finger nails, and hairy arm pits. No that's not guyliner that's 10W-30 with a hint of ATF and lithium grease. read more

Ted is cool! He may be a gearhead, but that's a good thing, not a bad one. Their inventory is great, and while some complain that it is expensive, it is PURPOSE BUILT and meant to last. These guys know about one thing, and one thing only: going fast! If you want cheaper carbs and stupid bits, go to pep boys. If you want to buy some adhesive for your carpet, maybe go somewhere else - I should point out that all the employees cars, save one, appear to have completely stripped interiors with roll cages - not exactly built for comfort. If you're getting ready to hit the strip, or want to get your engine or nitrous work done right, these are the guys to go to. You may pay upfront, but you'll thank yourself later. read more

He offered me a couple of places in LA and the surounding areas that may have the part that I'm looking for since, it is a very specilized part that I'm in need of. Yes, Ted (the owner) is a strange guy. I usually deal with George, the main mechanic. These guys are old school hot rodders, we are talking carburetors here. If you need nitrous oxide they have the good stuff. If you need fabrication, they can handle it. read more

Ted Toki, owner of Westside performance, is not a strange guy at all. And he is a gearhead from way back. Early '70's or so. Even though i have not seen Ted in a few years as I don't get over that way very often, Ted is a great guy. I have known Ted since about '75 or so, maybe '76. Westside Performance was named "The Shop" in those days, as that was before he bought out the Service Center in front on Pico. I have had Ted & his crew work on several of my cars, and they always did a great job. Ted did such a great job on my '71 Boss 351 that Big George and I cleaned Ted & Mark McCanse's clock going up to the races years and years ago. Ted had a really kool '55 or '56 Chebby sedan delivery with a 350 or a 383 stroker motor, don't remember which, and I and big George were in my Boss 351 stang. read more

Been coming to this shop for at least ten years. Always the work is beyond the level other shops could muster. I've just had a disc brake conversion, hydroboost, and new cooling system installed in my bronco and the work is excellent. Other jobs Ive done here include a complete transmission replacement to a Mike's C4, instrument panel, wiring, and some engine work.
