If you live in Carson City, you probably know the Westside Pour House. On a positive note, it's a great bar with friendly staff and good drinks. The food side - not so much. Sure, I know, it's bar food so you don't need to get your expectations up to high. I am a retired chef having worked first as a short order cook for six years then after graduating from culinary school as a certified chef in Austin, Denver, San Francisco and New Orleans for nineteen years. I've worked at several high profile restaurants and hotels. I say that only to say I've seen a lot of really exquisite food, some not so much, but today, I was served what may be the worst food order I ever made. We stopped by the Pour House today, Saturday, to have lunch and a drink. The place was mostly empty. I ordered the tenderloin sandwich which mysteriously was on the menu as a batter fried tenderloin sandwich. Huh? I was intrigued. I ordered it thinking wow, why would anyone in their right mind batter a tenderloin. When my order arrived, true to the menu, the "tenderloin" was served on a poppy seed bun. The only problem was that the "tenderloin" had been put on the grill and pressed into submission. The paddy itself extended three inches around the bun. No, you heard right - 3 inches. Of course, the "chef" had rendered anything resembling moisture from the meat with the over the top pressing. So, why didn't I send it back? If you've ever worked in the culinary industry, you know what is edible and what is not. Then there is the entre that is so over the top gross, bad and inedible, you have to sit in awe of the dish and wonder what in the hell was the cook thinking. I cut the excess meat from around the bun (leaving a cardboard like substance which I took home). More on this later. The experience was laughable. It was really that horrible. As to the doggy box, it was just that. I have two standard poodles and a miniature poodle. They have to eat too. read more

A locals hang out with a surprisingly large seating area, pool tables, and outdoor area for nice weather. The food was above average bar fair with a decent sauce that they refer to as "penguin sauce." We had Bleu Cheese Potato Skins, Penguin Tacos and a Penguin burger. The potato skins were very GOOD. The place was clean, and the server was pleasant, although a bit delinquent in rechecking on the status of our drinks. Overall, it's a clean place with a welcoming attire. Plenty of room for kids to stretch their little legs in the "game" room. We'll go back. read more

Service is seriously bad. Not enough help to run the place effectively. No signs of any management. Tried to go for a dinner and the kitchen staff wasn't even around. Waited for 45 minutes, still no food. Staff behind bar not consistently wearing a mask and kitchen staff not wearing gloves or hand washing. This was our last visit here. read more

If you want a great place with great vibes and food, Pour House is the place. Elizabeth is an amazing bartender. The is a full bar with great bar food and a great atmosphere. I am a big fan of chill dive bars and this is the place to frequent. Will be coming back. read more

I love coming here for drinks with friends. Pool table, arcade games, Karaoke and loud music. Their food is so good, especially their hot chicken wings. Good place for adult fun! What a find. The best tenderloin sandwiches ever, as good as "back home again". Good prices, pleasant staff, coldest beer on tap. I have as looking for a good neighborhood restaurant and this fits our bill. Not good for children though as it is pretty much a pool bar. It was too loud, had to yell to have a conversation. The music isn't music, it's just loud bass and with terrible terrible room acoustics. The tables are sticky, but it's too dark to see where. The food took 45 minutes and was not great- again, couldn't see it. Everyone else is yelling too. Well, if it's the only game in town, this will have to do. Specially if it's late night. I should have known better than to run into a sports bar that has karaoke. I did want to patronize a local establishment as opposed to going to a casino restaurant. First of all, the wait staff was non existent, I had to go track down a server. He said I could sit in the bar, but it was way too crowded and the karaoke was going on, so in a word noisy. I finally got my order in, I ordered their so called Behemouth, it came with soaked potatoes in oil. Their so called might have been called a slider, I guess I'm just spoiled on one pound burgers, the burger was okay, came dressed with tomato slices, onions, shredded iceberg lettuce and their secret sauce. I did ask for medium rare to medium, it came closer to well done. Plus, where's the pickles? What decent burger is missing pickles! Now, I will explain the fries, the oil has to be hot in order to cook potatoes properly, anything less would allow the potatoes to soak the oil and leaving a not crispy fries, which was exactly what happened. Stopped by here on a road trip from LA to Tahoe and we were very pleasantly surprised with the food and drinks. Working lunch with colleagues from LV so on a little time crunch. Food came out fast...at least part of it. Really neat old black and white pics on the wall. Old NV bar vibe. Rowan our waiter was full of personality and super fun. I ordered the fried pickles and the behemoth burger. The burger was really great. Crispy edges and juicy in the middle. The potato bun was also soft in the middle yet crispy next the burger. The fried pickles were crispy and salty and wonderful. The French fries were lightly crispy. I would have liked a little more time in the fryer for them. There were 6 of us and the food came out 4 and 2. It was over 5 minutes before we were all served. Rowan did go back to the kitchen several times to check on the last two orders. I would have given it a 3 for the split order delivery but Rowan was so good and the burger was delicious. I've been going to this place for years, about every time I go to Carson. The staff is nice and the owners are really friendly and care a great deal about their business and their customers The beer selection is decent and the prices are great! Whenever we stop here for the wine walk, they always have the best selections to sample: a sangria with fresh fruit, a mimosa, and the choice of red or white wine. There's karaoke some nights but if you're not into that then you can step into the backroom for a game of pool. On top of that. their small but yummy menu is great! I had a Penguin burger there last Nevada Day and it tasted just like I remember the original one tasting. For those of you unfamiliar, The Penguin was a small but cool ice cream and burger joint on 395 near hwy 50. There burgers were the bomb! The owners of the Pour House have the recipe down pat! My husband and I havent ventured out much in Carson City so last night we decided to go to the Westside Pour house with some friends to play pool. When we walked in it was packed with people and good music. They have Karaoke every Saturday and so many people sing which is awesome! They have pool tables in the back so you can play pool and still hear the music and the bar staff are very friendly and make really good drinks. The price isnt bad either! For 4 of us to get drinks it cost is $22 whis is not bad considering it's a bar in a pretty small town. We will be back for sure! read more

My wife enjoyed the tuna sandwich paired with the Asian slaw, and I had the turkey burger with a very tasty potato salad. There were at least seven burger specials last night, and there was certainly something for everybody. So you know, each burger came with a side option, and there were about seven of those, including sweet potato fries. The ambiance was not necessarily our cup of tea. We ate in the bar, where they had about six pub-high tables, and at least four TV's. To summarize, great help, great food, and a bar atmosphere. This is going to sound odd, but we didn't eat AT Moe & Sluggo's. We ordered their Bleu Cheese and Bacon Burger while AT the Carson Cigar Company. M & S's brought the burger TO us. Cool deal. So, on to the burger. In our opinion, this burger is 'to-die'for'. Yup, that good. It's a burger that wifey and I would say is "not first date food". That means it gets really sloppy (i.e., really good). We cut ours in two so we could share it without setting it down (the cigar bar supplied us with the knife, because as we all know, any cigar bar worth its salt has a steak knife handy...). Once you put the burger down, it'll never go back in your hands in one piece. You just hang on, keep all the goodies between the buns, and enjoy. The fries it came with were also just great. There was a side of ketchup and a side of mayo (in the customary plastic cups). The following day we were on the Carson Wine Walk and Mo & Sluggo's happened to be one of the participating businesses. We had to stop in and see where this wonderful burger came from. We liked what we saw. Not fancy schmancy, but nice neighborhood feel. Turns out, bar lady Tiffany at the cigar bar had told the folks at Mo & Sluggo's how much we raved about the burger, so when we mentioned to someone at Mo's that we had their burger the previous day at the cigar bar, they knew exactly who we were. Well, sort of... You know. So, we'll be 'back' to Mo and Sluggo's to try more of their menu if this burger is representative of the quality of the rest of their offerings. I was pretty excited to see a place open after our 8 hour drive from Vegas. I've never been to Carson city and let me first say this bar is in a super cute area. I called ahead and placed an order to go. I walked in and the place was kinda busy. I stood at the end of the bar with no hello. So I walked to the kitchen window and said I had an order to go. They told me to go the bar. Finally a nice guy helped me out. I ordered the burger with blue cheese and bacon. My bf got the tenderloin sandwich. My burger was absolutely amazing! The bacon was thick and honestly I didn't want it to end. The onion rings were perfect as well! The tenderloin sandwich was shocking but also gave us a good laugh. It was so big, like huge! But it was dry, super flat and let's just say half ended up in the trash. But the portions here are great and I have had cravings for that burger. Wife & I ate here for Lunch on a Monday. Lisa was the bartender / waitress and She Rocked! Taking orders, filling drink orders, making menu suggestions, constantly checking up on customers, and just generally being an upbeat / busy person! Apparently, the night-shift scrubbed & cleaned the backsplash for the grill, but didn't do so well with mopping the floor. Yes, we heard all of the ten-minutes of griping he did whenever she was there to drop off orders and pick up food. (Inside voice, dude?) Wife ordered the turkey and ham club with square-cut fries. Tried some of it and it was very good. I ordered the Monday special, Chili Bowl without onions. Not all that impressed. Whomever made it was in a hurry. They did not soak the beans before cooking / adding to the chili. Black beans were uncooked / crunchy. Black beans take a while longer to cook / soften up. Anyone that regularly makes chili or cooks with beans knows. The vinegary Tabasco flavor of the chili was fine. Expected it as the menu was clear that this is how they season their chili. Adding fresh cut tomatoes to the chili was a nice touch. One other nice side effect of soaking the beans before cooking is it lowers the amount of gas a person will have while eating the chili. MORE ROOM FOR ALCOHOL & DESSERT = MORE MONEY TO THE PUB! Worked kitchens & bars. It really is that simple.
