I am a committed complainer and I declare this place to be wholly unacceptable. First of all, we were asked our drink order immediately and it was delivered promptly. This robbed me of the opportunity to act like my time was important and huff and puff nonchalantly. STRIKE ONE! Then we ordered our food. This really chapped my hide when the tenderloin sandwich came out the size of my inflated ego! How am I expected to complain about a sanDwhich the size of my head?! STRIKE TWO!! My wife ordered the appetizer nachos. This was my secret weapon.... appetizer sizes! But the mountain of food that landed on our table appalled me to no end. Not only that but my fries were seasoned and not bland!! HOW DARE YOU? STRIKE THREE!!! Additionally, I downloaded the app for the jukebox and he turned up my music. I give up. I was staying in Carson City and found this great family-owned restaurant. Disregard the outside, it is amazing. It is a bar with a decent menu, lots of drinks, pool tables, and entertainment on occasion. I had the Blue Brother Burger and it is definitely one of the best burgers I have ever had. I went back the next night just to see if it was REALLY a good burger or maybe I was just in a good mood. WOW! Different cook the second night and the burger was exactly how I remembered it. Blue cheese melted slightly over thick bacon, guacamole, and a thick patty. I had to cut it in half to make sure I could hold and eat it. The staff was great, I didn't have to wait long for a beer or the food, and I left happy. Thank you for two great meals!! read more

We are in Carson City from Sonoma County, California. We were really hungry and looked at the yelp reviews of restaurants. This place sounded so good. It was amazing. The food is delicious. Service was fast & friendly. The place is very cute with lots of local, historic photos & funny bar signs. There was a beautiful brick arch that led to pool tables. It was busy in there, but not noisy. We loved it and would defiantly go back if we were ever in the area. read more

If that was true Dan, I would have been spoken to. There was no change within me. There was a change in your management. Thousands of dollars was missing from your casino, no one was doing their job descriptions and I was the only one begging for a standard. I have 6 months of me asking the manager for these regulations to be enforced. I would have happily shared them with you but I was discarded with out even a conversation. A single mom, with no family, no child support. Who finally got to a two year standpoint with employment so I can apply to buy a home for my children. Now you are also fighting my unemployment. One owner cowardly ignored me for months leading up to this event. It was in fact your manager who was using discounts and getting hundreds of dollars worth of free drinks. I was always told on Sundays, naw to ringing up his shots of fireball and colors light and his wife's Malibu pineapple mimosas. Another owner knew every detail. Every week was filled in on what was happening but couldn't do anything because he keeps assaulting your employees and wasn't allowed to conduct business. You are the owner who won't eat there because you know our sewage cross contaminates our water supply. If I knew how to blow that whistle I would. Me: "Great, another thing I have to block out of my youth, as I didn't remember it until now." I should clarify that I did grow up in Carson, and can't remember ever coming here when I was a resident. That being said, when a gorgeous friend from high school invited me out for New Year's Eve and said they were coming here, I thought it would be interesting. And interesting it was. The DJ was playing some good dance tunes, I saw people I hadn't seen since the day I shed my cap and gown, and I could actually afford a beer here. It's not a bad place to go (although I do NOT miss smelling like an ashtray), but one thing to keep in mind is that you may see someone's mom there, even perhaps your own. read more

Great find in Carson City. After our lame happy hour experience at Firkin and Fox we wandered down Carson Street in search of a place for food and drinks. We arrived here and were glad we did. Lots of cheap $2 domestics on tap and a variety of microbrew specials too. Another plus, they have some really interesting food on the menu. A muffaletta? Awesome. And great burger specials too. I had the fried cheese cheeseburger. What's that you ask? Why fried cheese (think cheese sticks) atop a cheeseburger. Awesome!!! My friend had the bbq burger which was well liked as well. The poke was another hit as well. Good times. Great service too. Our server was attentive and friendly and clued in with some great info on the menu. The environment here is pretty good. Music was way too loud, but thankfully, the speakers weren't on up front, just over the pool tables in the back. The staff was awesome, quick attention and continuing to check on us regularly. The kitchen was ok, not the worst food I've had in my life, but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. The down side to this place unfortunately is the clientele. People were rude, confrontational, and way too drunk. Like can't handle their booze and say stupid shit drunk. One guy by the back door would stare down anyone who decided to come within 10 feet of him, which was funny because he could barely stand. read more

Had dinner here last night as it was within walking distance of our hotel. Seems like a local gathering place. They were out of the pork tenderloin so I had the Pub Burger which was really good & the French fries were excellent. Our server was young, friendly & energetic. I would recommend. read more

Seemed like a decent little bar with a funny name (or perhaps literally indicative of a bar with uncivilized clientele that likes to fight or can't solve problems without their fists). I went here because I had an entertainment.com coupon, 2 for 1 entrees. They didn't honor the coupon and used some poorly explained justification that one part of the ownership related to the food had changed, even though one owner remained, the bar/grill still had one of the same owners and I couldn't really see any sensical explanation as to why they shouldn't honor it. Instead I was offered another coupon which the bartender couldn't find giving me 1 entree and then another at 50% off. So far, so disappointing. Then, there was the wait. I calmly listened to all of this stuff from the bartender and had my order taken. She didn't offer me a drink in the meantime. I was obviously attired for work and lunch, but I still might have gotten a drink, wasn't unfriendly and not all drinks are alcoholic, right? I waited and waited and my food took forever even though everyone else was just chilling and I was obviously in a bit of a lunch rush. I ordered two specials, a salmon salad and a Mediterranean sampler. There was no reason to expect the latter to be good, but I like to take chances at restaurants. Both specials were like 7dollars. I ended up talking with one of the local regulars, a teacher that used to meet with his group there on a regular basis. Nice, chatty guy. Most people would enjoy having a drink with this guy, honest and friendly, familiar with the joint. It was like the middle of the afternoon on a weekday and there was a cook and a bartender working here as well as like 8 customers in 3 different groups. That strikes me as very happening for the time of day and day of the week. The neo-hippie cook with headphones in the kitchen struck me as inefficient. I watched him prepare a few dishes and was probably biased by my impatience and need to return to work. Once the food was ready, the bartender waited a minute or two to go get it and check it to make sure that my specific requests were met (I wanted no bleu cheese or something in the salad and maybe no baba ganoush in the Mediterranean combo. There were two .50 charges on the bill for "take-out" of which I had not previously been informed. Petty. It wasn't clear how the discount worked on the bill. The numbers were listed in correctly (should have been for 3.50, but was listed as 3), but the final amount was right (half off second entree + 1 dollar for takeout fee). I left after asking a little about these unexpected developments and pretty annoyed. Explanations were flimsy. Being in a hurry I ate some of the food in the car. The Mediterranean dishes were pretty good. I'm not normally a fan of couscous, but it was a little oily and enjoyable. It came with some falaffel, hummus, lightly marinated kabobs (maybe just over an ounce each), couscous, and small pieces of pita bread. Not super big and small for the price and a lunch entree, but a good size for a healthy meal rather than the national standard of a meal larger than one should eat. Everything was pretty tasty and went well together. It was unexpectedly good, solid, particularly for a random bar in Carson city. That made me happy. The salad was nice too. It had some quality mixed green lettuce, a good size filet of salmon, a slightly sweet dressing and a few other veggies. It's actually among the best salads that I've had in Northern Nevada. I just really appreciated the high quality lettuce and the overall composition. It was still quite nice hours later too. It didn't have the self-destructing lettuce one sometimes finds. So, while my customer service experience was bullshit and felt totally dishonest, I did enjoy some really nice food. I had tried to use my entertainment.com coupon, but it wasn't honored so I did report the business to them, not that they'll necessarily do anything (I got a pretty lame e-mail in response which asked me to give all sorts of details like the name of the seller/server--like I remember and other details that I had already provided whne I filled out the complaint submission on their web site). I could eventually grow to like this place, but the whole transaction I had felt dishonest and I didn't appreciate being ignored while waiting (for at least 20 minutes) for my food. In addition to the bar area with a bar, a few tables for seating and some pool tables, there's another entire side room which wasn't used. It made it a little unclear where was the entrance. There's a little sign out front on the street just off N. Carson with specials and the door was open to allow people to just walk right in. There's also no T-mobile cell phone service in the bar. I found that odd because it worked just fine right out the door. Made for a particularly long, boring wait for the stoner guy to make my food. read more

Excellent bar food- the rib bites were amazing... hours later we're still talking about them!! We also had the pretzel balls (delicious!), a wedge salad (awesome!) and the jalapeño poppers (OK- we were expecting the chorizo stuffed ones we saw in yelp pics but they were just plain cream cheese stuffed- our mistake for not asking). We loved our appetizer dinner and Carol, our waitress, did an outstanding job and was so nice. We'll be back for sure! read more

Well went here tonight on a whim as we were in the area and have to be honest we were not impressed... We ordered a blue cheese burger and their special a chicken pesto sandwich got a couple drinks and waited. My husband asked for extra crispy French fries and I asked for garlic Parmesan fries which were a dollar extra no biggie. Well we got the food... My husband's fries were not crispy as requested and the garlic Parmesan fries as I requested we're not there. I was served cold pesto on a hot chicken sandwich with a croissant that was falling apart. My husband's burger was somewhat better however not very much as the bun was cold and bland. The bartender and the cook I use that term lightly never came over to do any pre-busing and the "cook" came by once to see if we liked it and then pretty much ignored us the entire time. My husband finally had to walk up to the bar in order to pay our tab. We are very disappointed to say the least and will not be back. read more

I recently had the famous Penguin Burger at WPH and had it to go as I run a neighboring business. The flavor and execution is without a doubt the best in Carson City and beyond. Best place for pool beer and burgers hands down!! I've only had their burgers a few times but man are they awesome, the blue cheese burger with bacon is to die for and their fries are fresh! This was a great find on our way to Mammoth. Not much on the outside, but once you're through the doors, you find yourself in a good old family run bar and grill. My pub burger was very good and my husband said the patty melt was just what a patty melt should be. (Unusual that it was served on sourdough and not rye bread.) We also tried a "penguin taco," ("not made from baby penguins," said the menu!) which was yummy. I could have been satisfied with two of those and nothing else. Beer on tap, and we had Firestone 805. Friendly owners. One made a point to thank us for coming in. That's classy. If we lived in Carson City, we would be regulars here. read more

The first time we came here the male bartender was indifferent to us, and it cost them a two lunches and me the chance to try their fried-cheese cheeseburger. We tried again, this time on a weekend night and had a completely different experience. The server, Jayme (sp?) was kind and came at all the right times. One of the specials that night was a chicken-fried cheeseburger, I had to go for that. It came on a really soft pretzel type roll with house made pimento cheese spread. The meat was very very good, fried perfectly. Fries were freshly cut and freaking delicious. My companion got a reuben with house cured brisket. The meat and the slaw on the sandwich was outstanding, but the bread could have used another minute or two on the grill as the sando fell apart towards the end. This was the only problem. Onion rings were great. I am so glad to have found a good burger in Carson. The atmosphere reminds me a bit of Brickies in Reno (also a great bar burger) but on a slightly larger scale and with a lot more refinement in the kitchen. read more

Oh where do I start....this place is a gross hole in the wall. The service is terrible, especially when the owner is there....he is so rude..absolutly no customer service. The food is all greasy and very over priced. Kitchen is always dirty...food on floor.....i wouldnt want anyone i care about eating here. I dont know any employee, thats funny. the " part owener", the one who is there alot....is the rude one. I came here for karaoke .....not for food.... not trying to get a food bourne illness. Went in on a tuesday at 5 and had the place almost to ourselves. Our goal was penguin tacos and pretzel balls and we werent disappointed!!! Great food. Table service was nice. Thought it would be more crowded, but we parked right outside and enjoyed a great taste of Carson City lore. I will bring visitors here if given the opportunity. Also watched baseball on the tv. When my friend's mom asked us all where we went last night, and we said we had been to Mo & Sluggo's, she said "oh." And not in that happy way, but in the "oh goodness why there" kind of way. But I don't get it. We were about 86.3% of the way from drunk to completely blitzed, and where better to go than a local neighborhood watering hole, only a brief walk from the house? The jukebox in here is one of those fancy ones that downloads songs off of the Internet. It's weird, though, because it seems to take credits away just for breathing on it. So I left most of the jukebox jockeying to the locals. There are a few TVs in here, and a separate room with a pool table. The pitchers of Fat Tire were $12; there were other pitchers but I don't remember what was in them. The thing about bars here; they don't close until people leave. So last call is when everyone's passed out or has stumbled home. I chatted with local characters as I got the last 13.7% of the way there. I met some cool folks: a girl whose injury forced her to leave Marin and move back home, her boyfriend who's in a touring progressive metal band, and a redhead who apparently slept with Kevin Costner. (Small towns are great because only in a small town can sleeping with Kevin Costner be what you're known for.) In Carson City, everyone knows everyone and everything about them. I like the downtown old school vibe inside and out. The food was good. My husband said best burger he has ever had. The potato skins were a bit over cooked but other then that everything was super. The turkey sandwich was perfect and not too big. We also enjoyed the pretzel bites. The service was great and everyone was super friendly. read more
