Our third wine tasting at Westside, and new flavors and new knowledge every time. Alex and Marion are very helpful.

Ask the concierge at any hotel about the best wine shop in the area, and they are likely to reccomend Westside Wines. Alex, who runs the shop is not just a clerk in a wine store, he is a bonifide sommelier. He knows his wines, the wineries and the vinters. He knows how to reccomend the wine(s) that will suit your tastes. He takes shopping for wine to a new level! The selection of wine in this cute wine shop is staggering! The prices are much less for the quality compared to the supermarkets and ABC stores. He features awesome "finds" from $15 to $400+ and an incredible "back room" Sommelier's Choice collection. We ended up buying a few whites that Alex recommended for a special meal (wineries that we didn't know) and we were very impressed. One was $16 and one was $27. He also recommended a nice pinot he got a great deal on, and passed the deal on to us. He had much pricier wines he could have pushed on is, but gave us the best wine value he had. Best part is we were totally treated like long term customers and the experience was great. I would recommend them highly!

An outstanding wine at a great price!

The selection of wine is staggering! The prices are much less for the quality versus all of the supermarkets and ABC stores. I ended up purchasing 5 bottles two to go with a sushi dinner that were chilled and three to use on another night. The find was a Turley Cedarman for $51. On the mainland I cannot score it for less then $75. Take your time and don't be afraid to ask for help. The owner was a sommelier and knows his wines and how to pair them. His suggestions for the whites to compliment sushi were spot on.

    Good deal

Great wine selections I was worry about may high prices but they have great wine we can't find at Safeway or KTA also Alexa was attentive and nice . I would mind buy here they have sale wine too but seems good wine! I like them way more than Costco or Safeway or KTA . Please check out! You won't regret

Great selection of hard to find spirits. If you can't find it here, you're unlikely to find on the island.

When I came into the shop, the owner was helping the only other customer there. I walked around and found some bottles of what I was looking for in the back, where a woman was wrapping baskets. She made no eye contact with me, and didn't offer a greeting. I remained in the back for over five minutes, repeatedly looking at her and trying to get her attention, but she refused to engage. I returned to the front, where the owner had finished cashing out that one customer and was chatting with him. He made no acknowledgement of my existence for at least another five minutes. The other customer then left and the owner finally asked what he could do for me. I said that I just wanted some help. He told me that it was a very busy time of year (note: at this point I was the only customer in the shop, previously there were two, including myself), and that I need to have patience. This felt like a highly passive aggressive thing to say. But I desperately wanted a certain liqueur for my husband, so I ignored the comment and checked out the bottles. He left me in the back to help another customer. By the time I returned to the cash register with my bottle of choice, he had just started to cash her out. A "she's been waiting, would it be okay if I assist her" might have been nice and what I would have done but I let that slide too. The customer left and he started cashing me out. Being one who's both honest and upfront, I told him that I understand both being busy and patient, I'm an elementary school teacher with Hawai'i DOE; the customer service was deeply lacking, and that I had thought the woman in the back didn't even work there, but rather was a volunteer. He repeated his line about it being a busy time of year (at this point I think there were three customers, including myself, but not including the distributor near the register). I said something to the effect of, "too busy wrapping baskets to even greet a customer," and reminded him of my very busy job. The owner then asked me to leave. As I was walking out I heard him tell the distributor that this had never happened before, but if you look through previous reviews, there are complaints about this woman. Ultimately the owner did me a huge favor. The bottle I was going to buy retails for $45-$52, he was selling it for $79. Another bottle that he was listing for $87, a competitor had for $64. Extremely greedy in addition to rude? All of DOE will hear about this experience!

Kamuela Liquor Store has been in business for over 80 years, the signage on the glass window has 78 years but I confirmed with the kind lady staff that helped me twice this past Saturday, is family owned liquor store located in Kamuela on Hawaii Belt Road, parking is next to the store which is a great thing and offers an impressive selection of wines, spirts, sake, and craft beers, they have a unique offering of cheeses, meats, olives, snacks, some groceries and dips. Staff was very helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable with my questions on wines and recommendations. They also have weekly wine/sake tasting on weekends. I usually stop here to grab my alcohol for the hotel stay and I saw some great deals, close out deals. I purchased 4 bottles and went back to grab a few more bottles, before we drove back to Hilo, during my most recent visit. Luckily the 6 bottles made it back to Oahu safely. It was such a great deal, a close out deal at $6.99, the only regret is not purchasing the last 6 bottles that were left.
