Stopped here for lunch on our travels and decided to get the buffet. So reasonable at a bit over $26 for us both. The restaurant is comfortable, the waitress is accomadating. We decided on the buffet: fried chicken, bbq chicken, beans, cabbage, hush puppies, sweet potatoes, liver mush, bbq ribs coleslaw, cheesecake dessert, brownies were at the buffet line along with a few other food items. My husband and I had come here for some take out barbecue. He loaded up the container and we split it when we got home. The take out is sold by weight. It appears to be a local jaunt and neat, friends and neighbors greeted one another. It was nice. We brought our food home and enjoyed our ribs, chicken and pulled pork as well as sides. A classic South Carolina BBQ buffet restaurant. You know that when they are only open Thursday to Sunday. We eat at Westwood regularly. Some days the food maybe off a little. Sometimes the fried chicken is a little dry. The service mostly is good. The price is very reasonable. My kind of place! Buffet at lunch had plenty of country cooking. There were two types of barbecue - vinegar based and mustard based - plus fried chicken. Plenty of sides, included rice, mac & cheese, hush puppies, cole slaw, and a choice of desserts. The tables are set up for one or two people or groups, and it seems to fill up quickly. I came over around lunchtime on a Friday with a friend. The parking lot was quite crowded, which was a promising sign of good food. Based upon reviews I read before choosing this spot for lunch, we both decided to go through the buffet. I want to preface this review by explaining I wasn't very hungry. I sampled the pork bar b que, some rice with a gravy I didn't recognize, macaroni, chicken n dumplings, corn dodgers(?), and fried chicken. I tasted the gravy, a clear liquid with something ground up in it. It wasn't for me. Since there was fried chicken on the buffet, I don't understand why chicken gravy wasn't offered. When I scooped the chicken n dumplings, I noticed there was no chicken mixed with the dumplings. I had a small bite and immediately noticed it was didn't taste like chicken. It tasted like dumplings cooked in plain water. Applying salt and pepper didn't help the absence of any chicken flavor. The fried chicken was underseasoned and inedible. The macaroni was also devoid of any flavor, even after generously sprinkling with salt and black pepper. The bar b que pork had a nice flavor, but the consistency was mushy and overcooked. My friend had the beef bar b que ribs and liked them. She also liked the sweet potato casserole and fresh fruit. Other than that, we both agreed it was a bit of a letdown. We didn't try the desserts. Not what I expected in a BBQ place. First I got a platter which had rice. What kind of BBQ place serves rice with BBQ. They really didn't have a BBQ sauce. Oh they didn't have CORN BREAD. Only open 11-2 on Sundays thankfully we made it. A little dark inside very casual and they serve on styrofoam plates. If you want fancy this is not your place. Be ready to get your fingers dirty. 2 flavors of pulled pork, bbq chicken, fried chicken, baby back ribs. Veggies included green beans, corn on the cob, sweet potato casserole (to die for), collard greens, Lima beans and more I can't even remember. Hush puppies that were perfectly cooked. A little crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. OMG! $9 for buffet & drinks included. You can't go wrong. They even have a selection of desserts from dangerously rich chocolatey brownies to fruit cups.
