This place is awesome! I went here because I was in desperate need of help with my fish tank. I have a large fish tank and my job takes me away for a month at a time. The tank was struggling when I was gone. I spoke to them and got on the rotation to have them clean my tank while I was away. They're incredible! This is one of my favorite aquarium shops in CT, I used to visit every few weeks when I was in the hobby but now that I've stopped keeping coral and fish I haven't been in a while. I really miss stopping by and checking out their amazing coral farm and fish, they always had the best looking coral frags. Stopped in at Wet Pets for the first time in a while. I used to prefer the other fish store in the area, but this latest visit has me really rethinking that. (Short version of the detail below = Good customer service and I left with what I wanted.) The selection was surprisingly good considering they mentioned the next batch of fish was coming in on Wednesday (and I was there on a Monday). Granted I don't tend to buy overly expensive or rare fish (my tank is primarily African cichlids), but I found a couple that added nicely to my tank. I'll probably be back again shortly to see if I can pick up one more... The interaction with the staff went very well. I left feeling satisfied, valued and a little more educated. The whole experience started when I showed up at 7:10PM on a day where they close at 7:30PM. Despite me being one of THOSE customers that walks in too close to closing, I didn't see any odd looks or sighs from the two employees. James was hard at work cleaning/caring for the fish, but didn't mind my making him move to squeeze between the aisles. He then jumped right up to help when I asked about what they had for pleco's and African cichlids, and took the time to discuss what they had, pricing, personality attributes, fish gender, etc. He was very knowledgeable, which is always preferable when buying living creatures. My knowledge on fish is moderate at best ("That's a cichlid. That's a goldfish. That's a pleco.), but he certainly helped me feel comfortable in my purchase. I probably should have picked his brain a little longer...maybe next time. All in all, it was a very pleasant experience, and I'll surely keep Wet Pets in mind for my next aquarium related purchase. This place is awesome! I discovered them better part of a year ago while out coral shopping one day and they have always had an amazing variety of corals, all the tanks are always clean and healthy looking and I've always had great success with everything I've purchased from them. I've been finding myself less and less inclined to give other fish stores my business as I've had nothing but great experiences here. If I had to come up with something negative to say it would be that theyre a bit of a drive from my house and I wish they were closer. Pros: great variety of saltwater fish and clean tanks Cons: staff were rude and unwelcoming I used to come here when I was an undergrad at UConn years ago. I always found they had the best assortment of fish. I was so excited to come back after deciding to start a small tank for my daughter. We stopped by on a Sunday afternoon about an hour before closing. There were quite a few people there. Their variety of salt water fish is remarkable, however, I was interested in freshwater fish. My daughter and I milled about and she was so excited to see the fish. I made my way over to the freshwater fish and a couple of employees were talking with a gentleman about fish. Unfortunately, they were all sort of hovering over by the freshwater fish so I couldn't really see what they had. We walked back and forth a few times waiting for them to finish so we could see the fish, but they just kept chatting away. They weren't looking at fish, it was clear that the man had no intention of buying any fish, yet two (out of what looked to be three) employees were just standing there and chatting. Finally, after walking back and forth for ten minutes, I finally smiled and said "excuse me" to the employee who was blocking a few of the tanks with his body. He clearly looked annoyed. I asked him about the hardiness of the fish and wanted to ask a few questions, but he was clearly annoyed that I had asked him to move. I was quite disappointed as I loved this shop when I used to come many years ago and, now that we have moved back to the area, I was looking forward to coming here for my aquarium needs. I ended up going to another nearby store where the associates were friendly and helpful. Very sad to say I won't be coming back here again. I give them one star for variety and another star for the cleanliness of the tanks, but their unfriendliness toward a mom and her young daughter who were so excited to come here and pick out some fish, was pretty off-putting and I won't be coming back. read more

This place is AMAZING!! They take great care of their fish but more importantly they care about their fish. They will not let you leave with their babies without knowing they are going home to the right environment. They will tell you the truth about whether a purchase is a good idea or not even if it might make them less money. I highly highly recommend this place. I saw their Facebook post and decided to comment on it. It got deleted immediately after I wrote my comment stating that they sell reverse osmosis water stored in a garbage can(it's the truth). We've only gotten RO water from them with new water cans and when we brought it to the store to show that their RO water is clearly contaminated with green and black particles floating (more than one occasion), the staff blamed us saying we had dirty water cans. Our cans have only held their water. We cleaned it before and after each use. They told us to kick rocks but they're the ones selling RO water out of GARBAGE CANS!!! Look around the store. It's filthy. We went there because it was close to home and for the most part the customer service was good until this incident. I will never return to Wet Pets and I will NEVER recommend anyone to go. Go elsewhere where it's clean and safe for our sea creatures. You'll end up with a massive algae infestation like I've got because of their dirty RO water. Buy online or just go somewhere else. This place is disgusting and overpriced. i came in on 4/12/16 while i was in the area to check it out. i am from boston ma so this is my first time here everyone is really friendly and awesome. I was greeted as i walked in and i walked around and found a pair of black snowflake clown fish that i been wanted to get, there was a guy who was doing maintenance right next to me very very helpful i didnt catch his name but wicked cool dude. i came back today 4/13/16 to purchase the two clown fish and i believe his name was nick according to the shirt he was wearing helped me out, he had wonderful customer service and so does everyone else in the store. no matter what it is they are there for you unlike some store when you're just waiting for someone to show or come by but doesn't acknowledge that you're standing right in front of you. I will definitely come back even though i'm 2 hours away i will make the trip ! read more

This is a really cool fish store with a lot of high end fish and equipment. A lot of places only sell baby fish so you don't see what they'll look like when full grown but this place has a lot of cool looking mature fish to look at. One of the best stores in the state. read more

This fish pet store is top notch, first when my boyfriend and I walked in we were greeted and the employee Alex went right to work on getting some shrimp out of the tank for us. Browsing around the store you can see the care and dedication that the employees have for the animals; all the tanks were clean and the fish were thriving not like the tanks you see at PetCo or Petsmart where there are dead fish at the bottom of the tanks. The variety of aquatic life and plants is fantastic and they have 2 tanks of discus, my favorite, and they are gorgeous! All the employees are very knowledgeable and friendly especially Alex, very nice kid. My favorite part about the store besides the discus tanks was the fact the employees don't pressure you into buying stuff they let you browse and do your own thing. Great selection and helpful staff. I want to start off by responding to a review from Angie K., RO water is dispensed from a trash can (many hobbyists who have RO systems at their homes will use trash cans to store water, they hold a large volume). Not sure why they would deny doing this, but if you intend to buy water you will figure that out right quick. And yes, there is particulate matter that finds its way into a clean bucket. It annoyed me at first, but I decided to go ahead and use the water anyway (I gave up mixing my own saltwater a while back, need too much space to store it, and they will mix it to whatever s.g. you want) I have been using it for over a year now and have experience no algae problems (outside normal algae levels that come with the territory of an established tank, but the problem is not whatever filter media might be in the water, but the excess nutrients in the tank itself. If the fact that their water comes from a trash can or may have some (as far as I can tell harmless) debris in it bothers you, don't buy it, plain and simple. That in no way is a reflection of the rest of the store. You will notice walking in that there is a smell to the shop, but it is a fish store, it is humid year round because the tanks are all for tropical fish, and places that are always humid tend to have a somewhat dank smell, not moldy or mildewy, just dank. The fish are very healthy, the staff ensures that you know what you are doing before selling, which is uncommon in many stores, and they are willing to help you in building a tank or adding new fish however you like. Price wise, you will probably be paying a bit extra for most things, but this is a small pet store, they can't offer the same discounts chain stores can, and the quality is by and large higher than any chain store. Is the store clean? Reasonably, again, they are all about the welfare of the fish, not about making the storefront shine. If you want a pretty and clean store, go to Petco, but I think they have their priorities straight at Wet Pets. They are my go to for nearly all fish-related purchases (save for some equipment purchases, try to save money where I can). Also, if your fish becomes sick or dies suddenly, they will try to make it right (within reason, if you do something incredibly stupid that kills the fish, they aren't going to help you, if you buy a fish that lives an average of two years and dies after a year and a half, probably not their problem). read more

Horrible. I used to come here as a kid and get fish, now that I have my own house I started a tank. Did everything I was supposed to, let it cycle for 4 1/2 weeks and was ready to buy my fish addition. There was only 1 guy working. He decided to talk my ear off about his bearded dragons and when I asked questions about a fish, would reply back with a sarcastic remark and made me feel as though I was stupid for trying to get some education on certain fish. NEVER again will I return here. The tanks are so gross and crammed in. It is not viewing friendly and the staff are horrible. Very disappointed and sad that a place I remember growing up went down the toilet. Totally worth the drive down the road to better fish stores, where they take the time to educate you and not make you feel stupid. read more
