We have stayed a couple more times since my last review. Most recently August 2025 in their annex just a few houses down. We were in the "Commander's Suite/Allyn House." Stayed here 3 nights for our anniversary and definitely plan on going back. The staff is very kind and welcoming, and the property is clean and well kept. This past weekend we stayed at Channel House for my wife's birthday. I wanted a place right one the beach and somewhere were we could relax. What better place then in a jet tub out looking the ocean! I really struggled with this review as far as what to give them! They were kind to us, upgraded us to a room that was $10 a night more for free, tub on the deck was nice but we struggled with a few things that would make me never book there again unfortunately. The biggest thing I will say is as nice as the tub and the view was the bed was literally a rock. It does not move and was like sleep on the floor or wood. It made for two nights of awful sleep! A few other things to note is that all the keys are the same because they also open the front.. It was weird to think that a guest could unlock any room. We never got our room tided on Saturday. We left by 10:30 and had a thing saying please clean but it never happened. Due to that we didn't get additional coffee.. For our room we had two coffee pods, two tea and two decaf but Saturday morning we each made a cup so we were sadly out of coffee with no refill. We were not back in time to know this before they closed. Parking is very limited by the main building which sucked and for our truck was tighter to get in to some spots. Overall we were ok with our stay but we wouldn't go back. Truthfully the beds are the main reason why! read more

"I see you've been visiting us for decades, and I thank you for that... I ask you to please never stay with us again".... This is what the General Manager, Kam Mix said to me when I told him that housekeeping stole items from our room. We had booked the room for 2 nights, and housekeeping let themselves in, stole items from our room, and management encouraged them to take the champagne, candies, and money from our room. We had not checked out, and still had a night left on our reservation. When we called to the front desk to see what happened to our things, the reception was less than professional. We requested a call from management. I had to call 48 hours later to reach anyone. A police report has been filed. Mind you, we've stayed here dozens of times over decades, and it was absolutely my favorite place to get away. And now it feels absolutely unsafe, and they could not have made us feel more unwelcome. I'm absolutely broken hearted that the GMs answer to this problem was to tell us to never stay there again, but if you look at the Google reviews, he has a history of clapping back when guests complain. One star for the amazing view, and for the 20+ years we enjoyed this place. A second star because they refunded this stay, but it never should've happened. Very sad to let this place go, but buyer beware. read more

Everything about channel house was amazing. I saw a video online of the bath on the balcony and called immediately. I forget who I spoke with, maybe Dan or Dave? Whoever it was was so friendly and helpful. They were willing to do a one night stay, when they usually do not. We spoke for a while and he helped me decide which room was best for what I wanted. We ended up staying in the whale watch suite. The lady was so nice when we got there. When she took us to the room I was speechless. It was even more beautiful than I thought it was going to be. They gave us recommendations around town for food/drinks. Depoe bay is a cute little town and I wish we couldn't spent more time there. They had wine for sale in the room and a fireplace for heat. 11/9/2017 ROMANTIC HONEYMOON Both my WIFE and Myself absolutely LOVED the place. We have been coming to the Oregon coast for 7 years. We are from Seattle Washington and we always enjoy our stay. It is usually in Lincoln City. For our HONEYMOON I searched for the most Romantic hotels on the Oregon Coast and The Channel House in Depoe Bay was on that list, after seeing pictures and reading different reviews on Romantic hotels. The Channel House stood out. I decided this is where my new WIFE and I were going to spend our HONEYMOON. I accidentally booked a room through Expedia thinking that I was on the Channel House website after a few phone calls I was able to book directly through the hotel which saved us close to $400 the person that helped me over the phone was a young lady named Donna who I would like to take the time and personally say THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! We stayed from November 5th through November 8th in The Whale Watch Room, one of the most ROMANTIC places we have EVER stayed, we purchased the wine package for an additional $50 which I feel was well worth it. Upon our arrival we went to go check in and the young man behind the desk is named Cody he showed us to our room which when we walked in was like OH YEA!!! (KOOL-AID) style, this will definitely be the place where we will stay from now on. I'm sure all there rooms are really nice, but I will only speak about the one that we stayed in The Whale Watch Room which is on the north corner with FANTASTIC water views from the bedroom and private deck with a 2 person whirlpool tub. We went to go get our bags out of the car and Cody insisted on helping us which we both thought was AWESOME. The entire staff we encountered were absolutely WONDERFUL. The young ladies that prepare the Continental breakfast every morning are GREAT. I can't say enough FANTASTIC, WONDERFUL, GREAT things about this place. Oh, I almost forgot to mention you get two fresh baked chocolate chip cookies upon arrival in your room. When we checked out I asked for two more cookies and Cody went out of his way to go find us some. To the entire staff at CHANNEL HOUSE THANK YOU FOR THE BEST HONEYMOON EXPERIENCE EVER!!!!!!! We have stayed here 9 times over the years when we fly up from south Florida and it has & will always be one of our favorite spots to visit. Years ago my mom Laurie B used to manage the books here and was the first to introduce us to this magical place. It's so very relaxing when we're in town to just chill and soak up the waves and wine on the deck . The breakfast is always top notch and everyone is super friendly during your stay. We typically walk down & have dinner @ the hag always awesome it even Tidal Raves also incredible. Years ago there used to be an awesome breakfast place just in front of the inn that local fisherman would hit super early that had the biggest pancakes u have ever seen but sadly it closed. Supposed to be super fancy, according to pics and website. If you enjoyed the year 2000, this is great. For the price I would have figured it a bit fancier than it was, but it was a good stay. If you don't arrive in time to get a primo parking spot at the building, you're SOL, and have to park 3 blocks away in a dirt lot by the highway and it's a steep uphill jaunt if u end up there...glad we got "the cheap room" and lucked out with the parking. If I was booking the $300+ rooms I'd be unhappy if I didnt get an up-front parking spot. Carpets need stretched at the least. Using a space heater to heat the room was not ideal, not even a thermostat to control heat...nor was the power cutting out while the wife was using the blow dryer...tripped the breaker, no maint/desk lady on sight until 9am, no answer from the "if you have a problem call" number...Thankfully there was a working outlet in the other half of the room. BUT, for the price, none of these "issues" should have been issues...probably won't be back, but wasn't enough to leave early. read more

I loved staying here so much I can't wait to go back! My husband and I stayed in room #12, Suite Salt Air. The room was clean and spacious and had a fireplace, couch, a TV in the living room area and in the bedroom. The bathroom has a nice sized shower with dual shower heads. The deck is quite large with a jetted tub that is covered. The view is absolutely spectacular! I'm so spoiled from the view that nothing else will compare! They provide robes, towels, and bath salts for the tub. There is also a refrigerator in the room with complimentary waters and there are also bottles of wine available for purchase. The king sized bed is in a separate area with sliding doors which was great in the morning because my husband wakes up earlier than I do and he was able to watch TV in the living area and shut the sliding doors so I could continue to sleep. They also had a coffee maker and provided coffee and tea pods. The hotel hosts were very kind and even came to our room when we got there and explained the layout of the room and how the fireplace worked, and let us know about the local restaurants to try. The only negatives I have are the bed was a bit too firm for my liking, but I still slept well. They are also not serving breakfast now but that is due to Covid. You could also hear when they ran laundry above us, but not at night. It was really quiet at night. I highly recommend staying here!!! read more

Just stayed at the Channel House in Depoe Bay, for two nights, and absolutely loved it. Our room was on the smaller size, but that was only because all the larger ones were booked. It was fabulous and the view from our room was incredible. I forget to ask for the lady's name behind the desk but she was very nice, and welcoming. The hotel does not serve breakfast but the hotel is very close to many restaurants and places to eat. Perhaps the only small issue we had was there wasn't enough parking, but we parked close to the hotel, it wasn't really an issue. Complimentary coffee and water in the rooms too. I would love to stay at this hotel again, you can sit in the hot tub and watch whales spouting. It was heavenly. read more

I was looking for a romantic place to stay for my wife and I's 3rd year wedding anniversary, and stumbled upon Channel House. All of the photos I found online looked very inviting, and I decided to surprise her by booking a night. We were not disappointed! Located on a little side street right next to the channel in Depoe Bay, this place is a great spot to go for a romantic getaway. We stayed in the Captain's Quarters. The room was very cozy, and tastefully decorated. But the main attraction here is the private soaking tubs! Oh man, did we get some use out of that thing... I think that was the first time I've ever soaked in a hot tub while watching the sunset over the ocean. Incredible! And oh so relaxing... The next day, I got up early (to use the tub again, not gonna lie), and we went down to the continental breakfast. I've seen some reviews complain about how it's mostly pastries... not true! Some of the things I saw (and had for breakfast) included fruit, oatmeal (Bob's Red Mill!), bagels, cereal, boiled eggs, and more. We had a nice hearty breakfast, and then had one more soak before checking out and heading home. We very much enjoyed our short stay at Channel House. I would definitely stay here again! read more

We gave ourselves a treat and booked 2 nights here during our Oregon coast exploration week. What an enjoyable and relaxing experience! The room was suitably large enough for the two of us with a living room, one queen bedroom, and a decent size bath - but the star of the show was the balcony with the hot tub. How can you go wrong sipping your coffee at daybreak on a 40F morning, soaking in the hot tub, while watching a pod of whales breach a few hundred yards off shore? We soaked in the tub each morning until pruny, then went downstairs to enjoy a continental breakfast before exploring Depoe Bay. One of the best places I have ever stayed at. The view from the Captains room is amazing. Trust me on this, there are restaurants in this area that brag about their views for dinner. Suggestion from me, have a snack at sunset before you go out to dinner, and then go out. No one can beat this view. Customer service here is second to none. If you can book a room here, do it. You will not regret it. The Captains room has more privacy than most rooms and still has the amazing views. The breakfast is great, recommend it. I cannot say enough great things about this place. After seven years and living in a New City later, my wife and I returned to Depoe Bay and stayed at the Channel House. The Admiral's Suite (top floor and panoramic view of the ocean and town) is our favorite room and it still delivers breathtaking views and the amazing amenity of a hot tub which is a perfect compliment to a chilly evening on the Oregon Coast. During whale migration season, you can even see the action right out the hotel window. The hospitality of the staff is top-notch and the breakfast room offers delicious pastries and fruit. Charming and also feature seating with on the water views. Highly recommended and we are already talking about when to go again. read more

Was told by staff that we weren't welcomed back after we needed to clean the hot tub from brown water and bird poop, ourselves. This location was great, the room was great and two of the people on staff (Dan and Kathryn/Kathrine) was very caring, however it seemed like maintenance there had an issue with my fiancé and I asking for help when we reported the issue with the hot tub and were told "Well Welcome to the coast". After the fact, getting home from the trip, I had received a message from them via email receipt, telling us to "don't come back". But, don't go here unless you're okay with being treated like that. Otherwise for the most part, the town, the room and the view was incredible. read more

This is a beautiful room, with stunning views, right off the deck. I absolutely love it here. Staff was super sweet, kind and professional, which was very much appreciated. These are the few things I take issue with. 1. At $799/per night. The VERY LEAST, they can do is provide microwaves. Literally, the most basic amenity, that can significantly impact the overall "feel" of your stay. My husband and I wanted to get dinner. Decided to come home and watch a movie and heat up our leftovers. But, nope. Not possible. We actually almost made a drive to the nearest Walmart, to buy one for $40. You can't reheat coffee, reheat dinner, spend the day inside relaxing, watching the ocean and snacking on leftovers. I don't know about y'all, but it is literally the simplest appliance and solution, on the face of the earth. But, for whatever reason, the owner doesn't want it. So I want to make sure this review gets around so she'll reconsider. I won't come back without a microwave. Every nice and shitty hotel, at the very least, HAS A MICROWAVE!!! I'm not asking for a stovetop. I'm asking for a cheap, small microwave! There isn't even one in the main office for people to use. They literally want you to walk to the nearest store with a microwave!!!! Ummmm...no. I came here, to getaway from life stressors, work,chores and children. I cater to people alllllll day long. I booked this trip, so I could be lazy, stare at the ocean and stuff my face. But, now, you're telling me, I have to PUT CLOTHES BACK ON, go out into the weather to find a store. Use THEIR microwave. Walk back to my room and HOPE my food is still warm. Sorry, hard pass. I won't be back until these rooms have a freaking microwave lol. They have a mini fridge and a Keurig. But, a microwave is just too much??? 2. The couch in the main room, is so small and uncomfortable. Hubby and I wanted to lay together to watch a movie and it was impossible. They bought cheap and shitty furniture. At the VERY LEAST have a comfy couch, if you're not going to have a microwave. The damn couch was micro. We both could BARELY fit and it was uncomfortable af. Again, for $799/night, in a room that is supposedly ALWAYS booked solid, you can afford a bigger, comfortable couch. If you won't do that, then at the VERY, VERY, least, install a smart TV in the bedroom, where people can actually lay comfortably, to watch TV or a movie in bed. 3. The bed is small af and hard as a rock. I'm done. These were my 3 pet peeves. I don't usually post reviews, but we just spent a pretty penny, to be here for 2 nights. So, not having a microwave and a decent couch, is kind of a deal breaker for me. When I come to the beach, it's to get away from life and calm myself. Those things include, the ocean view,which was PHENOMENAL, the ocean air and the sound of the ocean is so therapeutic. A clean room, which they did an excellent job. Last, but not least, a MICROWAVE and a COMFY couch, or at LEAST ANOTHER TV in the master. Both, my husband and I ended up on the floor. Anyway, place is beautiful. But, if you care at all about other basic amenities, so you can relax, you won't find that here. I'd love to eventually come back, if they made a few minor changes. :) read more

I went to Depoe Bay for a mini getaway for myself where I could take photographs and do whale watching. I originally stayed in the Bridge Suite (#4) which had a great view of the inlet and bay but due to a maintenance I was relocated/upgraded to the Commander's Suite (#13, Allyn House) a couple of houses down. The suite was everything and more than expected...from the fireplace, in floor radiant heating in the bathroom floor, deep soaker tub, and a wide deck that gave you a fantastic view of the ocean. Breakfast is at The Channel House, where they serve buffet style. The food was varied and delicious...no need to go anywhere else. The staff are friendly, welcoming and go out of their way to make sure your stay is enjoyable. The cleanliness of the suite was impeccable. You are treated with complimentary water and there are fresh baked cookies in your room and chocolates by the bed. I will make this my yearly vacation getaway to relax and recharge. read more

My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary in September and had a great time. We were in the Commanders Suite which was beautiful. There is a private deck and jacuzzi tub which we enjoyed the most. The view is amazing. It is very quiet and private. It is pricey but definitely worth the price, we will be back again. read more

Photos do not do this place justice. It is so incredibly beautiful. We splurged and stayed at Cuckoos Nest room for one night as a quick getaway from Portland. I cannot imagine a room having a better view - highly recommend. Depoe Bay is really small and we went the beginning of February, so not a lot open but the room itself was just such a cool experience. The only negative I have to say are that the complimentary robes were so old they were literally falling apart. They did look clean and we weren't really interested in the robes anyways, so didn't matter to us. Staff was very friendly, I'm sure they would have been helpful but we didn't really need help with anything. Still definitely five stars. We did not want to leave! read more

Our first stay here will not be the last, what a gem hiding on the Oregon coast. When we arrived we were greeted by Elliott, very Friendly and informative. He walked us to our room, and explained everything about our room ( the Cuckoo's nest) then he showed us the view from our deck, just as a whale broke the surface of the water, are you kidding me did they plan that. the room and the view are great. Watching the sun set from the hot tub on our deck was the best. The gentleman in the breakfast room could not do enough for us, the fresh baked rolls and pastries are great, we will be back next time we head up the coast. Hospitality was just OK. They didn't ask, but it was our Anniversary and this was the perfect memorable "stay anniversary". We stayed in the Commander's Suite, which had an amazing view! The room was huge, the deck is very large and gives you a complete view of the bay. We watched a couple whales from our deck the last morning. At night we sat in front of the fireplace and left the windows open so we could hear the waves. That's when we weren't in the hot tub on the patio. It is surprising such a large, expensive room doesn't offer a microwave. The pictures showed a small table and chairs but they are not there. We got a dessert to take back to our room and wish we could have warmed it up. The bathtub/shower is very large, but unfortunately you have to step up about a foot and 1/2 to two feet to get in, the edge is also wide. I'm on the shorter side and it was actually difficult to do. I put a towel over the shower track. The water pressure in the shower is not very good. If you like a really firm mattress you will be comfortable. We liked the privacy of this building, the front entrance needed to be swept, and the little entry way smelled of cigarette smoke or something not so pleasant. These are small things in comparison with our overall experience. We did a whale watch tour with ECO tours (highly recommend), and it was so wonderful to come back to the hot tub afterwards. read more

My granddaughter and I got a wild hair on June 24 as we were enjoying a cup of coffee on our deck in Milwaukie, Oregon and started to discuss how wonderful it would be to be at the coast, well a few short hours later... The Channel House in Depoe Bay! What an exciting and wonderful place that sits on a cliff at the entrance to the "smallest harbor in the world". Front and center stage was our cute and very clean unit, #12 the Salt Air Suite with a private deck with a Jacuzzi tub, ahhh! This was perfect and the continental breakfast did not disappoint. The staff at the Channel House, what can you say; friendly, helpful and full of smiles! Now, with all of that being said, I have to say that seeing the big eyes and smiles on my granddaughters face over her experience with the Channel House filled my heart and I will never forget sharing this amazing experience with her. We stayed at Channel House last weekend while attending a family gathering along the Oregon coast. This accommodation was booked as a surprise for me, and suffice it to say, I was beyond pleasantly surprised. We stayed in the Captain's Quarter's, a suite arrangement that allowed both the bedroom and the living room full ocean views. We left the sliding door to the balcony open each night so that we could fall asleep to the sound of the waves crashing onto the shore just below our windows. It was just like sleeping on the beach, except that we had an exquisite mattress and a bathtub on the balcony, and we didn't have sand in our drawers. Oh. Did I not mention the tub? It was the best. It's the perfect place to stargaze (we saw some falling stars from that tub, which somehow seems so much more romantical when submerged in really warm water with a cute guy in an outdoor bathtub). The complimentary breakfast is exquisite and the room in which its served has a couple of tables that make you feel like you're sitting right over the water. Fresh baked pastry, traditional bread pudding, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, delicious fresh citrus fruits and melon and freshly whipped cream... these, along with the deliciously strong coffee made a great start to our days.
