Very disappointed in this resturant, went for brunch with a group of friends with one person with a shellfish allergy in our party. We have traveled together for years different states and countries and have never heard of a resturant that does not cook their shellfish and meats separately, seafood restaurants included. We started our evening arriving on time and had to wait 15 minutes at the bar for our table to be ready. Our table was upstairs. The dining room had a very classy atmosphere with a nice view of the marina. One of the other waiters had long Bob Jovi feathered hair which we found nostalgic. But we heard him tell the table next to us. Maybe you need a party of 6 to be privileged to hear them.  We started our culinary adventure with an order of baked clams which we would describe as small and tasty. My only complaint is that there was a wet delicious sauce under the clams and we couldn't figure out how to moisten the clams with the fork and knife provided. We would recommend a spoon. Queen had a salad which was seasonal and tasty. Daddy had the New England clam chowder which did not disappoint. For the main course, the queen had cod which was accompanied by a tangy spicy sauce which was very tasty. Daddy had pan seared scallops over yellow rice. The scallops were small and unfortunately dry. All in all, it was a nice evening. The price was reasonable and we may go back at some point. We ordered two cocktails, Seafood Risotto and a Boneless Ribeye. Despite the reviews, we found this restaurant to be par at best and overpriced. Arriving, there was no parking and people were blocking traffic for the few spots in front of the restaurant awaiting departures. The ambience is more of a loud luncheonette, with most people including some staff wearing shorts. Cocktails were expensive, although met expectations. $38 SEAFOOD RISOTTO, which consisted of: 5 small clams 3 medium shrimp 6 mussels 10?? extremely small sliced calamari 1 cut up asparagus Not flavorful, nor plentiful. $54 WHALERS STEAK, which consisted of: 14 oz boneless ribeye Mashed potatoes 2 Grilled asparagus There was no salad, bread or any other included item. We went somewhere else for dessert. Steak didn't appear to be 14oz, although was good, as well as the potatoes. A baked potato substitution was not available, even at an upcharge. Portions were small. No fee for credit cards, although a 4 credit card limit per table and a 20% gratuity automatically added to parties of 6 or more. We dine out at least once per week and considering quality, ambience, portion size, parking, service and value, we will not revisit this venue again. read more

Came here for brunch with 3 of my girlfriends and had a blast! First off this place is absolutely gorgeous and that was one of the reasons I chose it for brunch. My friends and I started off with some delicious mimosas. I was very impressed with how light and refreshing their mimosas were! For my entree I ordered a lobster roll with a side of french fries which was was equally fantastic! The staff here were excellent as well, they were kind and very attentive. Even though we were told there was a 90 min window of seating due to covid, they weren't pushy at all with getting us out. We did not feel rushed whatsoever. The meal ended with dessert which was delicious! I had the smores tarte which was so rich and delicious! Just wish they had given more ice cream with it! I visited Whalers with my family during the Long Island restaurant week, so this is a review of their restaurant week menu! It was very simple to make a reservation for a Saturday night. However, there was no free parking available during that time though the restaurant claimed to have a parking lot. We parked in a paid muni spot instead. (It looked like the reserved parking spots for the restaurant were very few and already taken) A slight wait by the foyer and we were ushered to the outdoor seating upstairs. The decor was very cute and bright. There was some clear cover around the patio to keep the sea breeze out. The restaurant was kind to accommodate our table change request when we found the setting sun too bright. Victoria (?) was our server for the night. She explained the menu and answered questions we had. We were told that there was a 90 minute limit on our seating reservation. However, because it was a busy night, the service was fairly slow paced, so they did not rush us out. I was very impressed by her knowledge and efficiency during our dinner service. For appetizers, we had the spring roll and PEI mussel pots. The mussels were cleaned very well. The spring roll was unique in concept. For entree, we tried almost every one on the restaurant week menu, except the surf and turf. The coconut crusted cod was tender and clean, slight sweetness of the coconut serving as a great complement to the fish. The braised short rib was a little bit disappointing. The meat was cooked fine, but nothing special. The kimchi fried rice was super bland and felt like a pilaf. Shrimp pappardelle was our favorite. The shrimp was cooked perfectly plump and juicy. The spicy lobster sauce was balanced very well, creamy but not too heavy. The roasted chicken was cooked well, a great choice for those not looking for seafood. The little desserts added a nice sweetness at the end of the meal, though I would not go out of my way to order it separately. Like a lot of other patrons, I typically come here right before I take the Fire Island ferry. I sat at the bar and was served by Joe, the same bartender that served me the last time I was here. Joe told me that he has worked for the restaurant since it opened several years ago. I took his advice and ordered the New England Clam Chowder, which is the best I have had outside of Boston. I lived in that City when I attended undergraduate school there. I asked Joe his opinion of the Key Lime Pie. He responded that he has not tried it yet because it just came on the menu. Because I am a lover of Key Lime pie, I ordered it. The presentation was fabulous. The pie came with some fresh cream on top and some salted caramel sauce on the side. I do not like salted caramel. Nor did I like the pie filling because it was not limey enough. The crust did not taste like it was made from graham crackers, either. Certainly, I will never order this dessert here again. I was truly disappointed. I was looking for a key lime pie similar to the one that their neighboring restaurant The Chowder Bar makes. In my opinion, The Chowder Bar makes the best Key Lime Pie on the Island. I drank only water with lemon. The last time I was here, Joe made my favorite drink, a Caipirinha, even though it is not on the menu. There is no Cachaca at the bar, so Joe improvised by muddling some lime and sugar with Bacardi. Way to go, Joe!!! Despite wasting my money on a bad Key Lime Pie knock off, I am giving Whalers five stars for its food, drinks and fabulous service. read more

Awesome waterfront restaurant. Came here last night with a group of 11 people and had a great time. Due to covid and being a large party we had to sit inside and upstairs which was fine and offered a great view. Got the oysters and calamari to start. Both were awesome and decently priced. Came here with my daughter and my son-in-law , who took us on his boat to have a few drinks and appetizers to celebrate my BD! You can dock your boat here but it's on a first come first serve bases , it wasn't too crowded so we easily found a spot . The view from the outdoor deck is beautiful and peaceful . All the servers are so pleasant , attentive and professional. The drink I ordered was amazing , a Pina colada margarita , the rim was decorated with toasted coconut flakes ! So pretty and delicious! All the appetizers we ordered were well prepared , scrumptious and each one beautifully presented! We shared the Chili Calamari, Pan Seared Gnocchi, Truffle Parma's Fries and Chili Glazed Brussel Sprouts! Everything was perfectly seasoned and I can't say it enough .. delicious! Just had brunch at Whalers this past weekend with nephew and fiancé. The location, service and decor of the restaurant was great. However, the food was very underwhelming. We ordered the fried rock shrimp as an appetizer, Crab Cake Benedict, the Black Angus Burger with truffle fries and the Crab Cake burger with fries. The Crab Cake did not meet my expectation and tasted a bit fishy/blend- I love crab cakes and this was a surprise. Fiancé said the burger was okay (nothing memorable) and the truffle fries did not have any hint of truffle even with the +$3 surcharge. For dessert, we ordered the ice cream sandwich given that it was my nephew's birthday brunch. The Ice Cream Sandwich did not have much ice cream filling - it was mostly cookie. Brought my boyfriend here for a birthday dinner and we really enjoyed ourselves! We had a very attentive waitress supported by other polite and friendly staff members. We ordered cocktails and were punched by the potency. After, we ordered a shareable appetizer of Korean lettuce wraps. The presentation was impressive and everything was delicious. My new favorite waterfront restaurant, Whalers was everything and more. This is where I kicked off my birthday week as a friend took me there to celebrate. We made a reservation hoping to get the outdoor deck seating. Of course, I had my tiny human with me (my son) so I was equipped with my stroller. When we arrived we were told that the stroller was not allowed on the deck, but we can dine upstairs. At first I was bummed, but I understand restaurant protocol and safety. They had an elevator which brought us to the second floor, and as soon as I stepped out of the elevator I was no longer disappointed. The space was gorgeous! The decor was stunning! Rustic yet elegant! The large windows allowed us a view of all the boats on the water outside. It was also super spacious. We were seated all the to one side of the room where it felt somewhat exclusive. This also brought me comfort just, as I didn't want to disturb other diners if my 4 month old suddenly became fussy. We started off by ordering cocktails. I ordered the Montauk Mint and my friend had the LocoCoco Margarita. Don't worry about what's in them, just know they they were both downright delicious, with the right amount of alcohol. As an appetizer, we decided to split the Whalers Summer Salad. I should note that this dish is gluten free and was perfect for my friend who is gluten sensitive. Other items are gluten free and noted on their menu as well. The salad had baby arugula, corn, heirloom tomato, watermelon, lemon basil vinaigrette, almonds and crumbled goat cheese. It was so light and refreshing, while the crabcake was hearty and tasty. I would have been ecstatic with just that as my meal. But, of course, I needed to sample more. This is where I finally got my first lobster roll of the season. It came with a side of parmesan truffle fries. Both were great as well. We closed out with some chocolate cake for my birthday and it was the perfect ending to a perfect meal! They originally told us we only had an hour and a half, but we ultimately ended up being there for three hours! Our server was very sweet and not only was she knowledgeable about the menu, she allowed us to enjoy our dining experience while also being attentive to our needs. We didn't even realize we were there for three hours until we finally got the check. I should also note that the bathrooms were clean and spacious as well! Came here for my sister's birthday brunch and had mixed feelings. I'll start by mentioning that the staff is very attentive, and they do everything with a smile - special shout out to Evan for that. We appreciated him handling our *sometimes* rowdy group with a smile and just being very accommodating. With that being said, I found everything else to be a bit average or below. Actually the only other thing I really enjoyed here were their korean fried wings (soy garlic). Those were good - but everything else was eh. So they do have like a $20 fixed bottomless mimosa add on which is great- and the servers did their best to make sure our glasses were filled at all times. My friend disagreed, but she also drank them faster. One issue I had was that the mimosas were being refilled very quickly, but my water wasn't refilled even once. I wish it was paid attention to equally, so maybe that would be a nice note to management. (I didn't see any water pitchers, that may have been better? or if there was any on the table, it wasn't by me) We ordered the calamari, dumplings, wings and crab cake from apps. Food was average. I ordered the Seoul bowl with spicy pork, but it was on the sweeter side. The aioli wasn't on it, so I had to ask for it on the side, and it was... tangy? Not spicy, not sweet. My dish wasn't my favorite, and it came on top of a lot of rice. I didn't try anyone else's food but I heard the shrimp and grits were good, and the fries I tried were perfectly crisp! FYI: If you bring your own cake, you're supposed to pay $2pp in order for your guests to eat it... lol I think since we had a large bill and a large party, they waived it. read more

This was our first time at Whalers. We were a party of 4 and started our night off at the bar. Mike was our bartender and started us off with some drinks, happy hour specials and some apps. We enjoyed our time at the bar with clams and Oysters on the half shell, onion rings, fries, lump crab cake and pork dumplings. All the aps were delicious and fresh and served promptly. We then sat at a table where our waitress Dominique took very good care of us. For dinner we ordered salmon, lobster roll, Asian style chicken and the burger special. Then as pratt of the prix fix, we got desert included. All in all, we had an enjoyable dinner on a lovely night, with a pretty view of the water and ther boats coming in and heading out. Went out to brunch with my fiancé and my parents on Saturday around 12:30p. The views from the second level of the restaurant are amazing. It's also very nicely decorated, high ceilings & bright. I ordered the burger, which was delicious. My fiancé had the banana French toast with a side of bacon. She loves this and said it was very good. My mom had the dumplings, she ordered the tai chili sauce to dip them in, she enjoyed those. My dad had the Korean pork bowl, which he said was very good. I will be coming back. Whaler's is on the water, and I bet during the summertime they get very busy. There's a large parking lot next to the restaurant, so parking won't be an issue. The indoor is nicely decorated with long hanging lights and white/cream flowers... definitely aesthetic and picture worthy. We were seated upstairs for dinner. It was pretty busy! Our waitress came over and took our drink orders. They were using a Covid-19 limited menu for dinner. For appetizers we ordered the old bay french fries and sweet chili calamari. The friends were okay, but the calamari was amazing. It was fresh, and crispy with just the right amount of flavor. The sweet chili sauce comes on the side, so it works for anyone who doesn't like spice. For our entrees I ordered the shrimp parpadelle, and my friends ordered the seafood risotto, and whaler's steakhouse special. My pasta was OUT OF THIS WORLD. I'm not a huge pasta fan, but this did not disappoint. The lobster cream sauce was delicious and well seasoned. There was generous amount of clams, shrimp and scallops. Utilized the LI restaurant week special with my boyfriend. I had tried this place a couple of years ago pre Covid, and remember having their lobster roll and enjoying their waterfront area in the summer. This time we were seated upstairs. The decor was beautiful with their string lights. Their upstairs area looks like a place where you can hold nice events - we even spotted a projector that looks like it can be used for slide shows. I'm sure with all their windows, natural lighting in the day must look so awesome. In terms of their food, I personally loved the appetizers the best. Their gnocchi was fried and was in truffle and Parmesan and ugh so yummy. Gnocchi is usually a hit or miss for me. Their lobster bisque was also another star of the show! Great flavors, rich. The only thing I would have loved is if they added pieces of lobster to bite so it'd feel more dimensional. Their salmon and couscous had pretty good flavors. Their chicken had a decent portion. Dessert we had apple pie wontons and bread pudding but nothing too extraordinary for me personally. Overall didn't regret coming back to check out the place. The location of Whalers is beautiful. This is a great spot to go to if you want to be right on the water. It is a great spot to spend time with friends and family, or bring a date. The interior of the restaurant is very nice and it would be great to sit inside, but the real star is the outside. The cuisine is American with Asian influences. The chicken katsu club sandwich was very good. The chicken was perfectly fried and although there was a lot going on, everything worked together. I wasn't sure how maple bacon would work on a sandwich, but I was sold by the end of it. Many of the meals come with either French fries or a salad. The dressing that comes on the salad is very spicy and the French fries are dusted with a seasoning similar to chili powder. I wish that there was an option to choose whether or not you want the seasoning as well as a different dressing, or that the menu at least gave a heads up that the fries and salad have a significant level of spice to them. The spice level was unsettling to some of my guests and left some not taking more than a few bites of their fries and salad because of it. The food was good but the view was better. The drinks are on the more expensive side, around $14/drink but the food is on the moderately priced side, around $15-$22/entree. We had a nice time here. I would love to come back and bring more friends here. read more

I always knew that the bowl was not on the dinner menu but we were surprised to see that the burger had been taken off. No problem! We will just come back for brunch. This is a nice place with great views. It's a lot of atmosphere and the food is decent. The lettuce wraps are great, and they are huge. My 17-year-old son saved up his money and took me to Whalers for Mother's Day in 2024. He was so excited. While the food was delicious, the service left much to be desired. I've dined at this restaurant several times, even bringing my staff for lunch, but the customer service really needs improvement. There's a saying that "the fish stinks from the head down", and unfortunately, the owner is very cold and unwelcoming. Found our new waterfront dining spot! Came here for lunch with the girls and had one "shell" of a time. We arrived just as Whalers opened, didn't have to wait at all for a table and were seated in the outside shaded patio. The decor is so cute and perfect for a private party which happened to be occurring on the second floor. Our drinks were on the higher end but totally worth it for the view and strength. I ordered the pain killer which unfortunately attracted 4 bees! They wound up dying inside my drink and the waitress was kind enough to ask the bartender to make another. We shared the crab cake appetizer which was mostly crab topped with avocado and a corn salsa. I don't even love crab cakes and would absolutely get this dish again. I loved my wedge salad and my girls loved the clam chowder and chopped salad. You could spend an entire day here sipping on drinks while watching the boats come and go.
