Whataburger is a big, bright orange purveyor of the happy in burger+fries format. Sometimes they like to throttle back the happy so you realize you don't live in a utopia, though they got enough right (more than zero) so you still remain a part of the Whataburger-fandom. Having seen the signs off of 10 miles and miles away I knew what the next stop was going to be for lunch. I was surprised to see a Whataburger outside of Texas though. I did not know their reach had expanded so far from the last time I had done the Texas to Florida road trip (or perhaps my attention was elsewhere, since Aunt Jenny's in Ocean Springs is the usual stop around these parts.) Whataburger is one of the better fast food chains because they have the dedicated jalapeno option on the menu for the #4. Jalapeno is everything. In jalapeno's name we pray, muy bien. The soda machine was working properly so my Dr Pepper came out perfect. However they were stingy with their spicy ketchup packets. Very, very stingy. Other locations will make it rain with the packets but here they parted with two packets like it was the equivalent of me pulling their tooth with rusty dental equipment in my basement. I struck one star for stinginess of the spicy ketchup. This is an affront to #TeamSpicyKetchup. This is also an affront to people everywhere who own the high fashion "I put ketchup on my ketchup" t-shirt to let everyone know you're not some dilettante normie about the world's finest condiment - you go hard, son. I struck another star because they put cheese on burger when I specifically had asked them NOT TO. Ain't nobody got the time to send it back and let them make a new one, so I had to sit there like an idjit digging the cheese out of the patty and bun - fortunately it had not melted too much so some of it came off in sizable pieces, but not all of it. I hate when that happens. It's pretty far off of 10, but it's the best thing available if you are on the road and in the mood for a perfect hamburger with some jalapenos. Just let them know you are double dog serious about the no friggin cheese on your burger so they get it right next time - homey don't want no cheese, write that one down and read it back to me now. read more

I visited Whataburger right before leaving Gulfport for Atlanta with my family. I should have gone with my gut and visited the night before leaving the casino, with a liquor-encouraged pallet. They are open 24 hours so this is a plus if you do not want Waffle House. They serve breakfast from 11 PM - 11 AM. Personally, I suggest the burger after trying the breakfast food and seeing what the burgers look like. I did not try the burger because we came in during breakfast time and I just could not justify eating a burger at 10 AM. The customer service was great. The staff was kind here and the restroom was clean. My husband and I ordered the hot honey chicken biscuits, a grilled cheese kids' meal, and a biscuits and gravy. I do not like my biscuits and gravy with sausage chunks but did not know that it came this way automatically. The staff fixed it for me, and it was filling with the plain white peppered gravy. The chicken biscuit was good although the hot honey sauce was a bit messy. I loved that the cashier brought the food to our table and had an array of condiments, sauces, napkins and salt and pepper for us to pick from without leaving the table. Overall, the food was just okay. My son ate the apple slices with juice and did not really eat the grilled cheese sandwich. I think that I would order a burger on my next visit, if I am ever in the area. The breakfast was made fresh and it was just okay. I was not exactly satisfied after leaving. I saw that another guy ordered a burger with onion rings and the burger looked like a Steak and Shake burger and the onion rings looked like the ones that Burger King sell. Service was great on the part of the cashier! The manager on the other hand has no people skills. She passed us by and didn't say a word. Not so much as a smile. Everyone appeared to be happy to be there except her. They did miss an order of onion rings but gave it to us quickly and politely. We ate in the dining room. The order was delivered to our table promptly and the server was really nice. They even bring sauces, napkins, and other condiments out in case you need them. If they don't have what you need on their tray they retrieve it with a smile and get it right to you. But I 100% swear to you it's always fresh never have I ever gotten cold food and everything I order is always in the bag, yes even the sauce we asked for. LOVE Whataburger! The one in our town closed years ago so I definitely missed it. The staff here are SO NICE and very customer oriented. I was very impressed by how high their standards are. Most people would assume because it is a fast food place, that it's business as usual. But not here. They are friendly & even bring your order to your table. That's a great touch the company does that doesn't cost them a dime. It was so wonderful to taste their burgers again. This was my 1st time eating at Whataburger and I was not disappointed. Got the double and it was delicious. The woman who took our order was very helpful guiding me around the menu for my 1st time and said that she has been working at Whataburger for over 30 years, which is pretty neat. Burger tasted fresh and high quality. Tasted more like a burger you got from your backyard grill than one from a fast food joint. Mrs. Kristie Jones is one of the managers at the Gulfport store and is amazing!!! I had ordered a Patty Melt combo but when I got home is was slightly overcooked and had very little sauce on it when I had ordered extra sauce. I called the store and explained to Mrs. Kristie what had happened and she immediately told me she would not only refund my meal completely but also give me another combo.
