Would not recommend the gym here, the people (not the service the service was amazing!) were not very nice. I tried this gym with two of my friends, we were doing leg day. I would yap with them while I was resting between sets but would try and keep it short to be able to finish using the machine. Someone comes up to me and says something along the lines of are you using this machine while i was getting up to switch with my friend. I said yes I have one more set and my friend is just starting. They tell us to stop talking so much and hurry up, we say sorry and let him use the machine to avoid any trouble. They walks away and another person goes up to them and says I glad you said something they are taking too long. On another occasion, someone was rushing us off machines by standing and watching us workout. It was very awkward and I will not be going back! read more

The cardio machines and some of the resistance machines need to be replaced, leg press machine is broken and needs to be replaced...what i am trying to say is nice place and good people but the gym equipment, machines are at the end of their life and need updating ,repaired or replaced with new machines. read more

I used to be able to practice basketball after school but now they have a youth basketball league that runs for 4 months taking up all the gym hours this is the only indoor basketball court in the area and for little kids to be able to have it for 4 hrs every day is stupid this is a waste of money unless i decide to skip school so i can get time to practice basketball read more

I was about to get a membership at this gym but had to change course. They used to have a sauna but have since closed it and are doing some sort of locker room remodel which includes no intention of re opening the sauna or steam room. Very disappointing. I like this gym well enough. The rock wall and lap pool (albeit short at 20m instead of 25m) are nice features. That being said the membership prices are fairly high for what you get, and the permanent shut down of sauna/spa facilities is a complete deal breaker. read more

I have become a regular here. Their new state-of-the-art high tech equipment makes it fun and easy to do a complete workout. I especially like the screens and films on the tread mills. I love the location of this facility right in the heart of downtown Bellingham. It is so convenient and makes it so easy to take the bus. I have gotten into the habit of leaving my car at home and just hopping on the bus! read more

Separate all the machines, using the appointment method to keep 10 members limited. Sanitizing the facility every 3 hrs. I have always feel very satisfied about this corporation. In June this year, my 9 year-old son took a program called Safety Around Water. They strongly believe in water safety and make the program available to kids free of charge. It's a week long (5 day) program, which meets for 30 minutes each day. I was utterly impressed by the instructors. My son enjoyed the program from the very beginning, but after each day of lesson, he got even more excited about learning to swim. After the program, he just could not wait to take swim lessons. I'm happy to report he's taking swim lessons now! As I told my friends, it's the best 30 minutes I have ever spent! I'm very much moved by what they do for our community, particularly for our kids. A MOST unfriendly place. The people at the front desk just can't be bothered even if you were on fire. Nobody to give a tour or even delineate the facilities. No smiles or friendly greetings with any of the staff. Nobody to show you the gym machines and how they work. Overall the place had the feel of a slightly creepy and very unfriendly funeral home. I am a senior and so my membership is paid for by Silver Sneaker...but I now pay for a gym membership out-of-pocket because there is NO WAY I'm going back there. read more

This gym is great. Lots of machines, and if you're an early riser like myself, it'll just be you and a handful of seniors, so you're guaranteed a window with a decent view of downtown. They also have a pool and a rock climbing wall. The only downside to this gym is the price. I had to stop going because I found I wasn't utilizing it often enough to make the $45 a month worth it. If you can afford a pricier gym experience, it's definitely worth it, as no other gyms in town have the level of amenities this one offers. read more

I love this YMCA. I'm a brand new member, so take this review with a grain of salt, but... There seems to be a great sense of community here. They have a fairly large climbing wall with a variety of difficulty levels. Pickle ball league seems very active and interesting. The pool is kinda small, but there's always a swim lane available to me when I go. The spin/cycling room is ridiculously small but it seems to work. I have yet to try other classes but there's such an awesome variety: yoga, tai chi, boot camp, Step aerobics, etc. But I don't see enough people taking advantage of their access to all the experts who work here. For example, they have a free orientation session for all new members to familiarize patrons with the exercise equipment. A wonderful lady named Mary gives the tutorials for the weight machines and can answer any other questions you might have. And she's amazing and so knowledgeable and patient and kind--and just a wonderful teacher. Other than that, the only drawbacks are the small parking lot, and it can be kinda smelly. It's an old building but they're doing some construction right now, so it might be nicer in a couple months. If you can't climb/descend stairs, then forget it. This place is not for you... But it's an all around great gym with tons to offer. And great people working here. read more

This place is across from the historic Herald building. How people manage to find parking in order to work out befuddles me. The building is extremely old, making the place inside feel a bit dingy. However, it has all of the workout equipment that most people use. It also has a pool, two squash courts (one of them is not regulation size), and a basketball court. One perk of working out here is that from the upper level of the building, you can see the entire bay-front and the bay. read more

I'm a single mom. I don't have a lot of time or money to spend, so I researched Gyms a little before I shelled out any money. The YMCA has something for me and both of my kids for a really affordable price. From Zumba to free weight, the pool to the treadmills with a GORGEOUS view of our town, yoga to the rock climbing wall, I can do something different every day if I wanted to. And for one inclusive price. I don't have to pay more to attend Women's Climb, or Zumba classes or any of it. (There are some classes that cost more, but they're seminars on how to belay and such, so that's a given) My whole family loves the Y! read more

I really love the Bellingham YMCA, even though the weight room is perhaps a little wanting (they really need a second squat rack for busy evenings). I adore their friendly and funny staff, the diverse clientele, and I really really love the motivational quote on the white board every day!! They have lots of great classes: yoga, boot camp, stretching, even foam rolling clinics! I have not tried a personal training session, though I would like to. I have been lifting weights for a year now and I get the impression they are geared toward beginners. Even so, there is just a wonderful community spirit present at the Bellingham Y, and I absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a positive lifestyle change. Oh, and the sauna is nice too! ;) Also- in response to the review from Momo L. on 12/28/2011. There ARE a bunch of "knuckleheads" in the weight room, but there's also a handful of really dedicated people (several of them women) who are in there every morning. I live there when I'm in Bellingham, might as well bring a sleeping bag and set up camp...lol. Its an awsome building, used to be a fancy hotel. Only 34$ per month, no "contract" no pressure to "join" no awkward gym feeling...(that I'm in better shape than you feeling I've felt at other gyms) I always feel wonderful after working out at the YMCA. Great location, close to bus, food co-op, downtown. My favorite instructor is Leslie, shes so funny and her class is not for the faint of heart. Wish the pool didn't have so much chlorine though....after swimming with my 8 month old daughter, my eyes stung. But I love this place, and hope to come here for many more years. For my lifetime activities class, we went here to rock climb and utilize the gym upstairs, and it was a pleasant experience. They have a decent amount of equipment to use, generally not too busy depending on the time you go. They have lots of treadmills, and a powerlfiting section where there's a bunch of heavy dumbbells, bench press station, and an assisted squat rack machine. There's also a basketball court up there to where you can occasionally shoot some hoops for fun. The gym equipment has been in good shape every one I've gone there, and they keep them clean. It's a worthwhile gym and I would recommend getting a YMCA membership because if you're in the area you can simply waltz upstairs and get a killer workout. read more

I went in to purchase a day pass to use the gym and the check in process took 30 minutes when there was no line and I had already been there before. The woman at the front desk was very rude and seemed to have a big attitude and didn't want to sell me the day pass. What made the situation more awkward is another customer was dropping off her child at a dance class, but the woman at the front desk who was supposed to be helping us made a big scene with this woman dropping off her child because she had a small fine to pay. It was overall very uncomfortable oand I'm not going back here. read more

The Sudden Valley location doesn't have its own page, so leaving this review here. We have had a family membership for the summer months for the past two years. This has meant easy pool access for an outdoor pool that is reasonably well maintained. This last year, however, has been the most frustrating experience. There is now a $150 annual fee. That was waived for every family I talked to except mine. I am also on occasion charged the $12 day use fee to sit on the side of the pool. Hell, I bring my own chair because there usually isn't enough chairs. So I pay $12 to bring my own chair and sit on their patch of concrete. We definitely won't use the facility next year - looking into other options in town. read more

The monthly fee here is really nice for what you get - full gym, racketball, rockclimbing, showers, sauna, steamroom, full lap pool, etc. The gym also has some nice cardio equipment. Only complaint is cleanliness - the locker rooms smell pretty terrible, and almost everything could use a good cleaning. Overall, a good gym choice though. read more

great location in downtown and really close to my apt. the weight room area is on the third floor. not a lot of square footage, but lots of great updated equipment. (great for leg day). cardio equipment is mediocre.. none of the machines have personal screens, but i usually watch netflix from my phone anyway. locker rooms are very dated and the showers do not offer much privacy. does have a steam room and sauna This Y has the tallest rock climbing wall in Washington. There is always something going on from fitness programs to classes, to IM sports. highly recommended! read more

Twice now my child has been registered for swim lessons when they've unexpectedly had to close the pool & we've received no notification of the closure. They tried to convince me to drive to Lynden for swim lessons and 6 months later still have not replied to my request for a refund for the swim lessons that were canceled. read more

The YMCA in Bellingham is terribly mismanaged! The front desk staff was not only completely rude to several customers (including us), they also knew absolutely nothing about the programs being offered at their facility. They were very openly frustrated about the lack of communication between departments and seemed to want to take their frustrations out on the customers. I was blown away by the poor customer service that was provided to us and am likely not going to return. read more

Not just for boys anymore! I've been going to the YMCA for a couple of months now and after the first week or two, any skepticism I had was gone. The locker room is clean, they have all the equipment I need, and there's not a bunch of muscle-head jerks walking around hitting on anything that looks like a woman. Only thing I would ask . . . maybe a tanning bed? Someday? Still five stars, but a tanning bed would really be sweet. read more

I joined about 3 months ago and I go 5 to 7 times a week. I swim and use the fitness center. I have never seen it overly crowded and never had to wait long to use any of the equipment. It always looks clean and I rarely see any machine out of order. Has everything I could want. Never had a bad experience here, it's a good place to work out at a really reasonable price. read more
