She was friendly, attentive, knowledgeable, and made the whole experience feel effortless. She had great recommendations, checked in at all the right times, and genuinely seemed to care about making sure we had a great time. You can tell when someone actually enjoys what they do, and McKenzie absolutely does. She made the experience so much better and is a huge asset to the restaurant. Booked a party for two & a Goldendoodle for a Saturday night on the front patio. Loved that they gave us a corner table away from the entrance. Mackenzie was our server & was fantastic. The Lemon Pepper Wings were money. So tasty I would come back here just for the wings. My partner got the fried chicken sandwich with fries, and I had the house salad with fried chicken. What can I say, it was a fried chicken night! Was craving fries & didn't realize the size was huge. Looking back we told our server my partner should have gotten a side salad with his sandwich- while we split the fries. Service was good; The inside is pretty dark but was busy with people watching the World Cup. They recently renovated their side patio which can be good for families and larger groups. Came here on a whim when so many places had lines out the door. This place should as well!!! It was SO good!! Totally loved the vibe inside. Just so cutely decorated, and fun. I've been here twice and I haven't been impressed. I've tried a couple of pizzas and some items on the happy hour menu. The pricing for happy hour is great and the beer selection is great, but the food is just okay. We hosted our sons rehearsal dinner on the patio and it was the perfect spot. We had 30 people and it was comfortable and created an atmosphere for people to hang out without being stuck at one seat at a table. Would have given 10 stars if that were an option ! I hosted my daughter's baby shower in the side patio yard and am so happy to have had the party at Wheat and Water ! The catering manager was so easy to deal with and I appreciated his input and suggestions regarding menu and drink options - what does/not work. At the baby shower, every staff member was so kind and accommodating, the food deliciously prepared and well-presented, and the side patio casual vibe was spot-on for a fantastic event experience. Many of my guests reside in the Pt. Loma and Ocean Beach area, and several commented that although OB and PL have many fantastic restaurants and venues, they welcomed the opportunity to venture out of that "comfort zone" and visit another part of town to discover a fun place to dine. Some of them may have found their new favorite restaurant! My family will be returning to Wheat and Water very soon ! read more

Portions are very generous. I mean hefty as it gets. The service staff- Daemon really took care of our family. He's Knowledgeable of the menu and confident with his answers. What a great place! All I can say is, if we had service like this in the town I come from, we'd could do a lot more business. Tonight, we come in and they're very welcoming to our family, including the toddlers. Then after the kids spilled stuff off the table the staff has to come and clean up... this adorable waitress, Makenzie, laughs and says, "clean up on aisle one!" She teases the toddler and cleans everything up and asks us what else she can do for us . Oh and by the way, did I tell you how great the food is ? The pizza with bechamel sauce was wonderful and so is the beet salad. This was a really fun night and it's a great restaurant. I always forget about Bird Rock, but they have such cute restaurants! We met up with friends at Wheat & Water. They made sure we had reservations since this place can fill up quickly on a Friday night. The space has a casual and comfortable feel and we enjoyed sitting on the heated patio. Our food was tasty! I ordered the krabby patty which is a crab cake sandwich. The sandwich was really good! You can order it with either a side salad or fries. I went with the salad, but it had lots of arugula and spicy greens, so make the decision you want and get the fries! Their pizzas are phenomenal. Went here with some friends on a week night and wasn't overly impressed. I will say the interior is super cute, has that beachy La Jolla feel to it. Lots of tables both indoor and outdoor. Service was so so- took forever to get our initial drink order so we just ordered food and drink at the same time. We ordered a few of the cocktails which all were very sweet, flavors weren't well balanced either so one of them was overwhelming with mint. We ordered a salad and charcuterie board and the kitchen was super slow, given the time we waited for the food I would've thought it would've been higher quality. Ugh this place. We live in the neighborhood and have tried this place FIVE times, really because there are only a few places to eat in bird rock for lunch. The food is nothing to write home about but it's not bad. However the service is and has always been horrible, to the point of insulting. This review is for Sunday, the bartender was already clearly drunk when we arrived and ignored us. I had to ask a passing waitress (who was the only bright spot here) to wipe the messy bar off. Bartender did at least 2 more shots while we sat there, and then another male server came on and he did a shot immediately. I don't get it, is it a job or a party??? I had been wanting to go to Wheat & Water for a while now because people in Birdrock have recommended it to me and they were right - didn't disappoint! It's a casual spot but also cute enough for a date night. Portions are big and great for sharing. We got the linguini and meatballs, caesar salad and cheese pizza. The pizza was by far the best but the meatballs and garlic bread were also so good. If you want to get some wine, the house wine was surprisingly good. It was a french wine from Cotes-du-Rhone, not too dry and not too sweet. We had tons of left overs and were too full for dessert so definitely will have to come back to try those! read more
