First time here; I found Steve's very difficult and not first time user friendly. Steve's has a lot of rules and strict procedures. If you don't get it right, they may not process your game. Read the website...carefully. Make an appointment. Then read the website again. If you have questions, good luck, Steve's did not answer the phone or return voice mail. So read the website -- every page as there is a tidbit of important info you need to know and it is spread out. Once you get your meat processed, they dictate the day and a two hour window for pickup -- if you fail to get it, they start charging a storage fee immediately. So once I thought I understood the rules, I dropped off my elk, I felt pressured to make decisions about what I wanted - Steve's is busy during hunting season and showed little patience to answer questions about the various products and what they could do. So I made some hasty decisions on processing, waited till my pick-up day/time and went back to the market. The payment process was smooth. From what I can see Steve's prepared everything exactly as I requested. Perfect. They appear to be experts in wild game processing, have demand and they appear to have a following. Now that I better understand some of their rules/procedures, the next time should go smoother. So I am impressed with the product, but their customer interface could use some more attention. read more

Came here to process an elk. I love the "drive through" section to drop off the meat. Tons of options for sausages, sticks, and bulk meat. The chorizo links/bulk have to be my favorite along with the Italian Sausage and Breakfast sausage. The brats are amazing as well. Only thing I won't get next time are the hotdogs (their not bad everything else is just so good). The roasts and streaks are cut great. Everything is nicely sealed. I don't understand all the negative reviews at all. Only guess is that they are from coffee sipping liberals who don't like hunters and are mad at this establishment for having a prime location. Tips: - get lucky and get yourself an animal - clean nicely - get a reservation at Steve's - Before you get there look at their Menu and have a general sense what you want to order. read more

I'm not sure what these negative reviews are all about... I swear they have to be from local competitors. I've used Steve's the last 3 years (21', 22', and 23' this week!) for my elk processing and they've done a fantastic job! They offer great products and are extremely professional. They do have a few rules to follow when dropping off your game, so just make sure you do your research on their website. Otherwise, the folks at the drop-off are super helpful and nice! If I could do 0 stars I would, every single thing I've thawed out to cook up for friends and family has looked like they ripped it off and drug it behind a dump truck. I am giving one star because Trevor came out and tried to "salvage" the business. My family and I have taken all our animals to Steve's for years and years. The past year the prices have increased and the customer service has decreased. It used to be you took in your animal, were welcomed and placed your order. It was always a little busy during hunting season but the guys did a great job to move each truck through. Now, you must have an appointment to drop off and the hours for pick up are different. We have always quartered our animals and the "processing" fee was fair. Today we picked up my elk quarters (109 pounds in burger) the processing fee was $298.50! When my husband tried to ask why the fee was so high $2.98 a pound we were told to wait for Amy. Well... Amy (Steve's daughter) came out, chest puffed up, and pointed to my estimate and said "you signed the estimate, if you didn't like the price you should have not come here! And tapping her finger loudly and pointing to the paper. (My husband was cut off before he could finish his statement). He said "you don't need to yell or be an ass, calm down". She then proceeded to tell him he could "go suck it asshole and leave and never come back!" There were 2 minor children present for the entire show!!! Needless to say we paid our $802.95 bill and took the meat but will NEVER be back. We had ordered custom meats and that totaled $484.60. *Remember it was only 4 quarters I took to them for a total of 199 pounds... and paid $802.95. Please save your money and go where you are treated fairly or at least like a customer! read more

This hunting season was the first time I'd ever used Steve's, you can guarantee I'll be back. From the moment you pull in to drop your game off they're very attentive. Even with being slammed the customer service was top notch. The elk pepperoni sticks and jerky are amazing! I. Can't. Stop. Eating. I did find a couple pricing errors on my slip but these were fixed in house before I came back to pick up my order. The 10% cash discount was awesome too! read more

There comes a point when the "customer service" poor and demeaning as it is, outweighs the quality and convenience of continuing to do business with Steve's Meat Market. I know that lots of other reviews state that they have been going there for years and years but my family and myself have really been going since 1981, 41 years. I do understand the need to change the drop off and pick up process for a business as popular and busy as Steve's is to avoid the chaos that comes with so many successful hunters trying to bring their animals into such a small access point ( City of Arvada issue not Steve's ) . But that being said, we have been following the process and making appointments for drop off and pick up. The issues are not the pickup so much as the drop off. I will not use names, If you have been here before you will know who I mean, There is a tall young man who is most times the 1st to "greet" you as you arrive and begins to interrogate you as though you are an idiot and continues to do so for the 3 to 4 times during the hunting seasons you bring business to them for processing. It is unfortunate that the experience of hunting and being successful and looking forward to getting to enjoy some of the fruits of your labor on the dinner table are ruined by the experience of dealing with some of the staff who quite frankly care less if you continue to do business with Steve's or not. I will not be using the services any longer and have located a small business closer to me and much more into providing a process that is a whole lot more pleasant to do business with. I have voted with my wallet and have encouraged my family and hunting group to try other businesses that may actually want their business and loyalty. I for one do really miss having Steve there, but I know that we all deserve retirement and reward after a hard and successful career. Good Bye read more

My father and I used to go here for many years. Ownership changed and the quality of service has gone way down. We brought our elk to be processed and the front person actually started cursing at us. There were several other people shaking their heads and leaving saying don't waste your time here. We will never go here again.they are rude and don't want your business. I have used Steve's for many years and in the past , it was always great. However , as some of you know , he has sold the business to his daughter and it is definitely NOT the same. They have no regard for customers or customer satisfaction and it's obvious they do not appreciate their customers, based on how they approach and treat them . Warning: Steve's Meat Market will treat you with utter disrespect and the lowest regard possible. If there were any justice in this world this place would go out of business within the week. For many years my entire family and a number of friends have taken harvested game here for processing. I used to highly recommend this place. Steve and his crew never seemed to remember me, but that's really not a big deal. They see lots of people. What IS a big deal is the way Steve himself treated me the last time I was there. There was some confusing language on the order sheet that talked about 'storage fees'. I'm a pretty bright person who has done a lot of reading and writing in my life and I read it a certain way. I thought there was a one day grace period for picking up the processed meat. Unfortunately, it was written in such a way that there was no such grace period, and if you didn't pick up your processed meat on the exact day that it was ready, there was a $20 per day charge. I picked my order up the day after the business called me, and was greeted with a $20 extra charge to my bill. I complained about the extra charge and the poor young fellow working the cash register said I could talk to Steve if I wanted to; he was in the back cleaning up. I spoke with Steve, explained my side of the story, and was treated to a verbal barrage that at best was rude, at worst threatening. I tried to reason with Steve, but he only became more entrenched in his position and ratcheted up his vitriol and verbal abuse. After about 10 minutes of dancing around with Steve 'My Middle Name is Customer Service' I decided it was no use to continue. I went to the front desk, paid my bill, told Junior that they would never see me again, and started to leave. The cashier (Junior) started to mildly plead with me to give them another chance, that Steve was having a bad day, that they actually did appreciate my business, etc., etc. I had the distinct feeling that he had to do Steve's bidding on a number of previous occasions; he was very well versed in his spiel. The only justice of the moment was when another customer saw most of what was happening and didn't look too pleased about giving his business and money to this bully. I haven't been back to Steve's since, I'm sure he doesn't give a rat's hind end, and I'm sure his business is doing just fine. But if enough disgruntled victims use their voice and let the rest of the community know about this guy...maybe we can change things. I've heard a lot of negative chatter around town since I've advised people to go elsewhere. Stay away from Steve's. Period. Don't give them any business. You can thank me later. read more

I have just one question for the proprietor of Steve's Meat Market... when did you decide that hunters are gluttons for punishment and/or dim-witted? For as long as I can remember, my family has depended on Steve's to process our game, with mouth-watering results. However, the service we have received over the past three years demonstrates a clear lack of interest in their customer base. Or perhaps they believe that because they are "the only game in town," they can afford to treat their customers poorly? Always one to give my fellow man (or woman) the benefit of the doubt, I asked one of Steve's employees today to help me understand how a business that is dependent on hunters can justify being open for only TWO HOURS (from 11:00a - 1:00p) on Saturday and Sunday during hunting season... the response? "Oh, no one comes in on the weekends. Hunters are actually hunting then." Really? I guess she hadn't bothered to look out on the street to see the line of pickup trucks, with carcasses in their beds, waiting to turn in before 1:00. I am neither dim-witted nor a glutton for punishment and I refuse to accept the increasingly surly behavior that passes as "customer service" at this establishment. Guess I should have listened to my dad who started taking his game to Rocky Mountain Meats last year... this guy's been going to Steve's since the day he opened his doors and even he can no longer tolerate doing business there. We had a our big game (whole animal) skinned and processed here.... Our animal was shot in the head....perfect carcass...in the first meal we were spitting out bullet fragments...obviously somebody else's meat that was shot up by another persons meat that was mixed with ours....some of the sausage was good and some of it was absolutely putrid tasting (ours mixed with the shot up animal..) This place is terribly wreckless from a public health standpoint...unless you think putrid tasting meat and lead poisoning is healthy... The woman that took our order was very pushy and vague in her pricing... Stay away.. Maybe the health dept can do something to protect the public from this place and their crude, deceptive and dangerous processing practices... read more

I have been a customer of Steve's since he opened it. The game processing is excellent. Sausage and jerky..delicious. But his customer service is a zero on a scale of ten. The worst I have ever seen. You can bring your meat in on weekends in a three hour window...or pay $20 per animal extra. Or you can wait for four hours on a weekday, with a pager, taking another day off from work. And if you don't pick up the meat exactly when they want, you'll pay another surcharge. Prices are 40-50% more than the competition. Steve's treats the customer like he doesn't give damn if you show up to give him your money or not. Simply put, Steve's treats the customer like an addict, and doesn't work at customer service any more. Yes, their recipes for sausage and jerky are delicious, but I refuse to give any more of my money to a business that treats me like I'm the piece of meat. Never again. read more

Literally half of vacuum packed bags were not sealed. Nice bloody mess in the fridge every time that happened. Figured it would be just once but I shouldn't have given them the benefit of the doubt. No way the bags were damaged in my transport since they never came out of the large bags they had all the meat in, went straight to a chest freezer and cuts have been pulled out individually. Unfriendly, treat you like your stupid, act like you should know exactly what to do when you show up for the first time, rude on the phone, won't go out of their way for you, expensive, entitled attitude. Cut up my loins and back strap even after I asked them to leave them whole and they assured me they would. They turn a good product but what a joke to work with, it's amazing the lack of common sense demonstrated as small business owners. You would think that customer service would be their first mission. Had a bad impression the moment I talked to their first employee. They must think they're the absolute best thing around because they're so busy. They're only busy because there is no one else in that area processing game. Only folks they treated worth a damn were the people they knew by name, it was halarious standing in line watching them bs with someone they clearly knew then getting treated like a moron right after the dude. Archery season 2015 i took a big bull to them. I haven't been displeased with the quality of the products but service has plummeted over the years. 2015 was the last time I will use them. 350 lb in quarters no back straps no loins thank God. $950 later 3 small bags of meat left at 130lb. I have butchered my own for years in this instance I didn't have freezer space to cool that big of a package off so I made the decision to use Steve's after a several year break. Bad idea. I have never had any game processed here but my uncle has had a lot of work done by these guys and says that they are fast, fair and honest, I come a lot for the Habanero jerky and filet's more recently the bacon wrapped ones but always very tasty and of fresh quality, not that freezer kept taste you can get from the over priced Omaha steak company. on a side note this place is good for your pooch to they often have different types of smokes animal bones with a good amount of meat still on them! read more

We stopped by here on a whim last Saturday and were very pleasantly surprised. The bacon-wrapped filets were excellent quality! They tasted like perfectly aged steaks. My bites literally melted in my eager mouth. We also got the fresh pork sausage. We are always on the hunt for quality fresh sausage, and I think we have found our mark. In another review, someone said that Steve's Has changed for the worst since his daughter took over. FALSE! They now have appointments you can sign up for!! Yay!! I have been there when we have been waited hours to check our deer in. This is AMAZING! You DO need to read the rules, you use a credit card to pay $25 if you miss/no show or are more than 10 min late for your appt. I would gladly pay $25 for the appointment--it's that convenient! And everything is computerized, also genius! More importantly, the product they produce is delicious. You will not be sorry you went to Steve's to have your game processed. I highly recommend the Jalapeño Bacon Cheddar Burger! Best burger I've had in my whole life. Oh, and pick up your meat on time, it very clearly states it on the receipt! Brought an elk here earlier this year during archery season. The steaks are the worse hack job I've ever seen. I had two perfect back straps and all my steaks are strips and chunks of meat. Not to mention I have way less steaks then should have. They are the most expensive shop I've ever seen. Poor quality butchering and the customer service is terrible. I went to Steve's with a deer I had recently shot. I waited for at least an hour in a long line. As I got to the front a guy walked up in front of my truck and placed a cone and said, "we aren't taking anymore animals." This guy could have cared less that I waited in this line for an hour. Very disappointed. AFTER placing my order they offer me samples of different flavors. But, apparently it is impossible to change your order even on the same day even though they haven't started working on it! Why in the world would you not offer samples before the order is placed? In the end, I ended up paying over $600 for lion sticks that are jalapeno cheddar and way too spicy for most of my family to enjoy. What a waste money AND a once in a lifetime mountain lion. Excellent place to take wild game, great people, family oriented, very, very clean. I got detained out of town and they were very understanding and took care of everything. Prices are competitive, and they have excellent product that was packaged very professionally. Elk summer sausage is the best and highly recommended. read more

Do whatever you can to take your meat elsewhere for processing! Took 300 plus lbs of elk with an estimate of 292 lbs of meat in return and that's what we were charged for was 987$. Upon pick up we were only given 150 lbs of our meat back! And we're told they were aloud to keep the rest! There were 3 other hunters picking there meat up at the same time with the same exact problem. After a few of the hunters left in disgust I could over hear the employees in the back using expletives to describe customers that just paid them thousands of dollars! They have become untrustworthy and no longer reputable! Save yourself the headache and find yourself a new meat market! read more

Steve's has INCREDIBLE prices for what you're getting - in my opinion. However, the selection is very small. I understand their primary business is helping hunters out - but I'd like to have more of a meat selection to choose from when it comes to buying meat there. While they may be unable to coddle every patron that comes through their doors they do a damn fine job of ensuring you ALWAYS receive a top quality product. There is not another processor in the state that takes as much care receiving, processing, and packaging your meat. Before you go elsewhere ask about quality control and vacuum packaging Steve's is second to none. You will not be disappointed! read more

I've been a loyal customer for eight years and I keep planning to come back. The meat is vacuumed sealed and is easy to de-thaw and their speciality products are the best. My family loves the breakfast sausage, the italian sausage and all of the jerkies. We're always bummed when we run out by January. read more

Wow, some of these other reviews are brutal. I frequent this place for the delicious and amazing jerky varities. I've never used their meat processing service so this review is only about their retail store. They have some cool taxidermy and the ladies that run the counter are always nice. I'd give it 5 stars if they didn't use MSG. Their hours are short and change with the season but if you're in Olde Town, stop by and try the Elk Teriyaki! read more

DO NOT ever go to Steve's Meat Market for game processing. I was supposed to pick up my order on the designated pick up date, but could not make it in time, i.e. 5:00pm because of a work emergency. Therefore, I went in immediately the next day when they opened and I was charged the $10 late fee. I have been getting my game processed at Steve's for several years, multiple times a year, and have spent hundreds of dollars this season alone. I wasn't even a full day late, as I was there when they opened in the morning. So, I asked if I could have the $10 fee waived. The old lady (probably Steve's mom or wife) behind the counter, didn't even finish listening to me, she just said "nope" and pointed to a sign that Steve had written. The sign was insulting, as it thanked all of his customers who picked up their items on time, and basically reprimanded his customers who didn't. I understand that Steve's may not have the freezer space to hold customer's items for an extended length of time, however, again, I was there the very next day after my pick up date and have never been late in the past. The fact that they couldn't waive $10 after I spent over $350 in the past few months, makes me feel that they are money hungry and care nothing about their customers. In the future, I will go to Rocky Mountain Meats in Wheat Ridge and suggest you do the same. I prefer to give my money to more grateful and appreciative business owners. read more
