I had supper this evening on the patio of the Wheatsheaf Tavern. I had supper there because it was half price wing night ... an order of wings were $10.50 (plus tax). I got mine with Buffalo sauce and they were good.

You know you're in a pretty rough dive bar when you show up at 11 AM and it's already a bunch of people drinking BOWDEN sauce and looking sad and lonely... And also none of the ladies bathrooms have locks on the doors so you have to hold the door closed with your foot... I should be taking off if you points for that and also for the point that the bartender literally didn't even know that Ernest Hemingway used to drink here. He used to work for the Toronto Star as a writer and work correspondent and I spent his favourite drinking establishment. How can staff not know that? This is the oldest bar in Toronto and I'm so glad I made it here. It's been over five years. I can't believe it's still here. Nice to have old traditions.

Work reunion.

The best part of the Wheat Sheaf Tavern is the location. With clubs and condos all around it, change is a matter of life in the area. The Hoxton across the street closes, yet life seems to go on as usual at the Wheat Sheaf. I went for an early Sunday afternoon gathering which ended up ramming the entire back room area, with everyone having a great time. Most people were standing and milling around. The staff were accommodating and helpful, even taking group pictures for us which was appreciated. When someone said, 'Let's meet at The Wheat Sheaf' everyone knows it and nods. A true Toronto institution. Cheap Tuesday Wing night, Amen. Sports on the Screens, Amen. Super cold Canadian, Amen! at the Church of the 6ix.

I went here on a super cold Saturday evening after spending the day downtown. I've heard about this place for years but have never been until now. We ordered 20 wings and a basket of fries. The wings and fries came out fast and were real good. This is a nice place to stop in to if you're downtown and was some pub food.

Nice night

Oldest tavern in Toronto...I believe. Simple settng. Good selection. Drunk guy tipped 14 bucks on 6 dollar drink, not bad!!

Don't recommend. They advertise free cover before 10pm. When we got there at 9:45pm we were told to pay. The bouncers were unprofessional.

A classic Punk / Rock n Roll Bar in Toronto CA. Basically the CBGB's of that scene…read more It's been around since the early 1990's and is exactly what a spot like this should be. Very nondescript outside facade - no sign telling you what it is other than a small "BSC" (for Bovine Sex Club) painted near the door. Hard to miss though as the exterior is made up a punk rock style sculpture of rusted bikes & other assorted ephemera. The interior is similar, visually. Great sound system & chill vibes pervade throughout. Weirdly the stage is right in the entrance of the club, on your left, with a long bar along the right side, heading back. Great, crowd, great location in cool area with lots of restaurants & plenty of parking - both on the street up to 2 hours & extended parking for a flat-rate of CA$20 (~$14 USD) from 6:00pm until the next morning, just 2 blacks away.

Are the beer cans running out? It's possible. But, it's a dive in the way of the old dives. And the acoustics for bands are... not great. But they are a sign of what once was. Without attempting to try to present a front of a time long gone, The Bovine simply exists today as it once did in that time long ago, before Smokes stickers, before iPhones, back when people would just go to a bar to talk with those they didn't know the morning prior. Bring cash though, unless you're looking to make some big orders, because credit card is a minimum fifty-dollar spend.

As part of the annual Winterlicious promotion, two of my friends and I picked three restaurants…read morewith the prix fixed menu that'd we'd never tried before. This was first on our list, located in the Scotiabank Tower on Adelaide. We got a nice corner table, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting, not too loud but not library-like either. The music, mostly UK fare like their cuisine, played an acceptable volume that my friends and I didn't have to raise our voices. We were seated very promptly, and our server took care to attend to my friend's allergy. She even asked to change my friend's cutlery when another server brought the wrong salad. My appetizer was a hot-smoked salmon pâté, which was ok by itself, but eaten with the pickles gave it that taste I wouldn't forget. I chose for my main the Petit Roast Dinner; the cut was excellent, full of flavour and juicy to boot. The gravy for said cut just brought the roast to another level. The sides were delicious as well, especially the crispiness of the potatoes. A clean plate was the end result! Finally to finish the meal, I chose the chocolate banoffee cheesecake - I never pass on any cheesecake when it's offered. And it didn't disappoint! The banana brûlée was an interesting touch, while having toffee sauce drizzled on the cheesecake was a first (and not definitely last) for me! All in all, it was a nice introduction to The Rabbit Hole, and I can't wait to go down there again!

We went for a special occasion to The Rabbit Hole. I probably would've more likely given a 3.5. But…read moresince you don't have an ability to give a .5, I actually pushed it forward to a four star. It's located in the Scotiiabank Plaza at King and Bay. Entrance is closest to the Adelaide side of that building. You enter on the ground floor level, but then you have to walk up some stairs to actually get to the restaurant if you see the place with the kegs on the side of the stairs, you're in the right spot! You'll have to go buy those kegs later if you want to use the bathrooms cause that's where they are. Once you get upstairs, it's a quite nice looking pub area ( maybe little bit more higher end than some pubs ). We specifically went there because in December 2025 they had a special where they were doing a beef Wellington every day until it sold out. The price tag was a bit steeper at $60, although I have to say it was pretty good. Do I think it was worth the $60, well? I think the jury still out on that one. The service was very nice. The server came and checked on us periodically, and I did let them know that it was a special birthday for my partner, and so they actually arranged a nice to surprise and brought a special dessert out after the main meal. It was nice to get something sweet to finish the meal (comp'd). The Wellington was very good. It was probably just a little overcooked for me. I prefer mine more like medium rare and it was probably more like medium well done. I might've liked it better if it had not been so well done. However, it was still pretty good and a very nice flavor and it came with mashed potatoes and a really lovely gravy and some nice roasted vegetables. Atmosphere is pretty lively, I would say that there's not a lot of privacy because the tables are very close together. That was kind of a so-so thing in my book, but not a big deal. It is a pub after all. Also, that's what you can expect in those types of establishments. So it was quite enjoyable, it was also my first time there. Not sure I'd run back there although I generally do like O&B restaurants. It's just there are others of theirs that I prefer far more than this one. Close to all the transit steps away from King subway station.
