This place has been around for a very long time, the pictures show the history and the atmosphere shows the charm. This small little restaurant packs a very large punch when it comes to food. Servings are well portioned, and extensive salad bar and daily specials. The staff is pleasant and helpful. If ever in Standish you have to stop by even if it's just to get your favorite donut from cops and donuts. read more

Incorrect hours. I came to eat breakfast at 10am and it wasn't open even though their hours on yelp, and on the door itself said it opened at 8am. Seems like even locals were confused, in the 5 minute span of standing outside, 6 other cars drove by asking why it wasn't opened yet. read more

Movies about time travel are some of my favorites. Going to eat at Wheeler's makes me feel like I hopped in the DeLorean with Doc Brown and went back to the 1950s. It has a functioning jukebox with songs from The Spinners and Elvis. A quarter will get you six plays. The mini jukeboxes at the tables are being worked on...they need to order vacuum tubes to get them working. I can't remember the last time I used all those words in the same sentence. After a night of adult beverages elsewhere, breakfast here really hit the spot. So did the brunch drinks. My wife started with a tasty peach mimosa for $5. I had a massive spicy Bloody Mary for $8. While we were picking out songs on the jukebox, the food arrived...maybe 5 minutes after placing the order. The Country Omelette was massive, and served with a mountain of hash browns. I was hungry, but I couldn't finish it all. The jukebox and huge, tasty meals served quickly aren't the only reason to come here. There's a massive bakery display, with massive donuts, colossal cookies, and freshly baked bread. All of it looked so good that we bought a bit of everything. Even if you aren't in the mood for breakfast, stop in for the baked goods. They also have lunches, with a nice variety of sandwiches and other items. My brother in law really enjoyed the nachos, and the crispy chicken sandwich my sister in law got looked great. Options are limited in Standish, but eating here hits all the notes for food options, and won't hit you hard in the wallet. It's a bargain for a trip back in time. read more

This was my first time here. It was a very cute diner in Standish. It was recommended that we stop here on the way back from our trip to traverse City. The staff was very attentive and friendly. We were in and out within 30 minutes, I kid you not! The food was hot when served and the prices were very reasonable. I would highly recommend it. read more

Stopped in to kill some time and stuff my face and I was not disappointed. For starters, the waitress was busy (crazy for a Monday afternoon). However, she did everything in her power to give me great service. She offered up multiple options for me to plug in my laptop while I enjoyed my meal. They also offer Wi-fi to their customers, which is great. You can tell they care about making a first time customer a regular. She fixed me up a delicious Bloody Mary while I waited for my garlic cheese curds. They were absolutely scrumptious. Crispy and gooey with a pool of ranch to dunk it in (just the way I like it). Yup, looks like this restaurant had been around for a very long time! That's testament to good food and friendly service. Parking is tight but worth the struggle! You walk in and the floors creak and you are instructed to have a seat anywhere. Salad bar sits right in the middle of the restaurant and it's a pretty decent salad bar (I didn't get it but hubby did and enjoyed it). I ordered the Monte Cristo and would definitely recommend this! Swiss cheese melting and oozing out of the sandwich and the shaved ham is delicious. Hubby ordered the chicken Philly and said it was delicious. On the salad bar was chicken noodle soup with homemade noodles...yummy! Refills came quickly and service was always friendly. If you're in this area be sure to stop for some great food. read more

First impression, a thriving restaurant within a small city... on a beautiful Sunday morning We were seated at a table that was said by our server had been cleaned... upon arrival there was dried coffee and water remaining on the table (evident that in fact the table "during COVID" had not been touched) Then... 2 ladies walked in and were waiting to be seated -- they rested at a table that was soiled... so they were missed for quite some time -- our server then said to the other server "that's what they get when they sit at a dirty table... let them sit there a little longer" as she was seating the ladies (BTW - they were a bit older) she was rolling her eyes... Which leads me to the food... our breakfast was mediocre at best -- the hashbrowns were terrible... toast was soggy... omelet was more like a scramble in the shape of an omelet... Truly disappointed in our visit -- as I understand they were busy and this is COVID -- putting your customers at risk or being irritated that you have customers is rather disheartening... if you have customers you are making $$$ -- if you treat them like they are not welcome they will not return... The service was average but a little long on the wait time. Being so close to the all these lake I figured I'd approach the Fish and chips (or fries) for some freshly sourced fried fish; however I received the sloppiest, worst, AT MOST not even prepared dish. After waiting for about thirty five minutes they brought out me and my other three friend's meals. I was mortally embarrassed to see what I was handed.... I was handed a whole fish scaled and all that was deep fried as it was. I was just glad it was gutted before they served it to me but when I looked Under the fish I seen a whole pool of grease. Is this a joke, were they purposely giving me a fish swimming in grease bone and all? I couldn't even eat the fries because they were already soggy soaking around in that shameful pool. The least they could've done was chop the head off or pat down the fish with paper towel before they laid released it into the lake of grease. Ambience of a late 1989 family restaurant that started going under. I really wish I spent the money on a foreign Chinese gutter oil meal over this. read more

Meh. It used to be a lot better. I'm giving three stars based on previous experiences, but I don't think we will be back. We stopped for a late breakfast on our way home. It wasn't too crowded for a Sunday, so we were able to take a seat right away. We all ordered breakfast, except for the little guy, who wanted his standard chicken tenders and fries. Food didn't take too long, order was correct and the service was good, but the food itself...nothing great. I had the veggie omelette- it came with hash browns and toast. I tried the hash browns first. They were awful - the potatoes were shredded to the consistency of super fine shredded cheese...I'm assuming so they cook faster, but they were still undercooked and the cooked pieces almost had a plastic-like texture. The toast was a bit dark, but still soft enough that it hung limply when I picked it up. The omelette was decent, but it had more hash browns and was a bit over cooked on the edges, leaving it a little tough. Hubs and the girl had not-scrambled scrambled eggs. Mixed together and cooked flat out on the grill, so they just laid on the plate like a rubbery, plain piece of egg. Bacon was ok. Little guy had chicken tenders that were a bit tough to cut through, but he said that the flavor was really good and he liked them. Service was good and friendly, which was very nice. read more

It has been a few years since we were last here, but with the change in management, we decided to give it another shake. Breakfast is amazing and very tasty. If you visit, do so in the morning. It was more like tomato soup w a few mushy overcooked noodles and hamburger bits floating around in it. This place was on the main street right in Standish. Friendly helpful service. Great selection of doughnuts and sweet breads made in-house. Ample restroom options. Menu is limited, but no problem finding something that you will like. My husband ordered a bourbon chicken rice bowl and it was tasty and a generous portion. I ordered a hamburger and onion rings to share with my son who ordered a patty melt. My burger came with standard toppings and they were fresh; however, the meat was a preformed patty from a big box store. Disappointing! My son's patty melt had a dismal burger-to-bread ratio. Majority was bread (toasted rather than grilled) and cheese. The biggest concern, though, was how many patrons entered and exited wearing no masks. I am not a stringent pro-masker, but I felt uneasy in such a busy public place with so many careless people. I watched to see if the establishment addressed this, and they did not. read more

My mother-in-law and I had an EXCELLENT lunch here on Saturday afternoon when we were in town visiting family. We both had Club sandwiches, which were super-fresh -- Easily the best club sandwich I've ever had. Hit the spot! We both ate 3/4 of them, they were so big. We also split an order of fries which were plentiful, hot and perfectly cooked - crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. The waitress was friendly and helpful; good service. And, while not inexpensive, we felt the meal was very much worth the price. We just really enjoyed it and hope to have the occasion to stop again at Wheelers for more deliciousness! I have had many meals at wheelers and today was by far the worst meal we have ever gotten. The waitress was extremely rude when my husband asked what all came on the burger she said "Just what it says" in a not so nice manner which was uncalled for. The burger I had you couldn't even chew through the meat. Completely unsatisfied with the service and food quality. Defiantly not worth the money! The only positive was the waitress did give us 50% off on the burger because it was not eatable. read more
