This is one of few options in the area so thankfully the food is pretty good and you feel like you have had something to eat. My fiancé has now has the hot turkey sandwich at least a half dozen times - I warn you it is a very beige meal but he seems to enjoy it. I have had their brown rice bowls a few times (I recommend getting the sauce on the side - too heavy otherwise. ) I have had their Patty Melt and the mushroom omelet both were tasty. They also have a salad bar (that they just upgraded with a full sneeze guard). It is actually a "soup, salad and pudding bar". They always have two soups plus chili which is kept in the back that you have to ask for. There isn't a lot of protein on the salad bar. No ham, no eggs or beans - so it's not great for a full meal but you can figure it out. The missing star is for service. We often bring people with us up north and we generally point out during some point of the meal that "service isn't necessarily their greatest strength." The fact that if you go up to pay (no they won't pick it up) and your waitress is on break no other wait staff will take it for you. They will tell you your waitress is unavailable- but they aren't going to help you. If you are lucky they might go tell someone you are waiting at the register. Nothing like it used to be. Service slow, no smiles or greeting. We had a French dip. They used to be A1 delicious. But not anymore it came out cold forgot the cheese and the mushrooms returned it to get that cheese and mushrooms on it and still cold. The au jus was cold it just wasn't good. Asked if coleslaw was homemade they said yes it tasted slightly sour and for sure was not good. The Atmosphere of the place has changed big-time. Won't be back. read more

We stopped for early dinner on a trip, passing through Standish. I had a restaurant.com certificate to use, so thought we'd try this out, after checking this app. We were not disappointed. Hubby got the perch dinner, I got the swai fish dinner. Nicely cooked, plentiful. If I had to find one area of complaint, it's that the fries were kind of blah, but I'm not a real French fry fan. The salad bar was excellent. Fresh, home made salads, a nice variety. Two soups, both clearly home made, as well. The chicken noodle was terrific. Service was friendly, and didn't keep us waiting. Definitely, one of my go-to places to eat out. I love that they give you the option to make any of their sandwiches into a wrap because I don't like eating a ton of bread when it comes to buns. I always get the mushroom swiss burger as a wrap, LOVE IT!! I've always had great waitresses and good experiences. You can instantly feel you're stepping into a place of history with some of the original decor dating back to the 30's. We had a typical breakfast and I ordered a monte cristo. Everything was great and the service was friendly. Even though the monte cristo didn't have any powdered sugar and was basically french toast with ham and cheese, it was still very good. This place is by no means an upscale modern restaurant, so don't expect that. Instead, expect a small town diner with small town prices. Those who said this was high priced were very wrong. I have been here off and on for years as I like to eat there when I go up north. Stopped the other day on the way up north and had the best Hot Turkey Sandwich ever. Our waitress was wonderful and all the employees wore a mask. I felt very safe. On our way back home we stopped for breakfast. What a difference a day makes. Only one waitress was wearing her mask. Customers were coming in without masks, and walking around in the restaurant without masks. Our waitress was rude from the moment we sat down. She never wore her mask either. We decided that we didn't want to eat there because they were not following the mask rule, so we just ordered a doughnut to tide us over until we could get to Cracker Barrel. Stopped here for the first time and loved it. Sure, its decor hasn't been updated, but that's history! Had the Philly omelet which was as homemade as you can get. Stopped in after reviewing some reviews and they were 100% correct. I had the perch dinner, with a baked potato and salad bar. Best fish I've had in a long time! It wasn't all batter and no fish. I grew up going to this restaurant with my family. I love the history behind the building and the friendly atmosphere. If you ever get a chance look at the pictures they have on their walls. Sunday, January 19th, 50 senior citizens, ages from 68 to 92 years of age stormed the Wheelers Restaurant in Standish MI. Previous arrangements had been made as part of a Casino Trip. As owner of Rondeau Tours and Escort for this trip I couldn't believe the quality and quantity of the food and the friendly and fast service we received. Small family diner the outside does not do it justice. Me and my family went here for lunch i got the French dip sandwich and it was great juicy tender meat, my one daughter got the kids taco which filled the whole plate and she lived it she is 3 and she ate half of this taco. My 7 year old got the chicken tenders which were giant juicy and some of the best tenders ever. My husband got the double cheeseburger and he said his was also very good. I had the worst experience here! My husband and I, and our two children visited here before heading to Tawas. They served our drinks in a fair amount of time, but my sons milk was sour. When we complained the waitress was rude and she replaced his drink with something else. It took 45 minutes to get our food. People that came in after us was served before us. My husband didn't get what he ordered it was completely wrong. When we said something about that. Again the waitress was rude. My husband asked to speak to a manager and he just had this blank stare and wasn't paying attention. They were not busy. The waitress looked at me like she was very disgusted the whole time. If you are a mixed family this is not the place for you. We felt unwelcomed to the point, we didn't even finish our food. I heard great things about this restaurant. Until my visit here. I feel this is a unwelcoming place for people of color and interracial families and couples. I will not return. read more

A very old business, and it shows. The place needs an intense cleaning- grease streaks can be found everywhere on the walls, etc. The carpet is very gross, and the whole place looks like it could use a make over. The food is sub-par to any family diner out there. Service people claim to try, but they just don't get the orders right (there is ALWAYS something wrong). The cooking is short-order and short on attention and it shows. Pack your patience to dine at this place, for sure. The prices do not reflect the poor quality. One note to the owners: Re-invest in your business!!!! Get some new tables, try cleaning and painting. It's like you've hung 1,000 pictures on the walls to cover up the decay and dirt. You are not fooling anyone. Clean. Restore. Renovate. Just do it. And by the way, you could try serving something that is not fried in a deep fryer. Just saying- saute pans exist. read more

Sept 24,15 while traveling through Standish we stopped at Wheeler's. The lunch special was a Ham Salad sandwich with fries. When served there wasn't enough spread to even cover the bread let alone make a sandwich. Complaint to the waitress was ignored as was a request to speak to the manager. Worst toast and lettuce sandwich we ever had. Did find out upon leaving that they ran out of Ham Salad and served what was left over. I called the next day to speak to a manager which was again not available. The male waiter told me he wasn't interested and the wait staff are running the restaurant. Obviously no one cares.
