I don't write reviews often but while away on a business trip i stopped by this bar/restaurant for a quick drink and I can honestly say my experience at Whichcraft was nothing short of absolutely outstanding. I don't have much knowledge as far as craft beer but my waiter Zackery went above and beyond to help me understand their complex beer menu. He was very informative and was able to tell me the subtle differences in tastes. He was quick to pick up on my likes and dislikes, Zackery was able to craft a 5 beer flight for me tailored to my tastes and honestly I think he knew what i would like better then myself. Next time I'm in Midland for business I will definitely be making this bar one of my first stops!!! read more

Whether I'm getting drinks or lunch, I always have a good time here. Usually a pretty good selection of cider and mead, which I appreciate. For lunch, they have a nice selection of sandwiches and paninis, although I kind of wish fries were an option instead of kettle chips. The beer selection is really good and I love being able to try beer, wine, and liquor from all over Michigan. The food is mostly paninis and hot dogs. They used to be done really well, but are now just ok. I used to want to get dinner with my drinks here, but now I try to eat before I go. We got the Mediterranean mezze last Friday and the hummus that came with it was really disgusting: it was weird and chunky and just tasted bland. Maybe they're forgetting tahini? Definitely not blending enough. I love the big wooden community tables, but I hate the high tops. The chairs are incredibly uncomfortable and I slide out of them. I'll wait an extra 20-30 minutes for a regular table before I'll sit at the high tables. Beer selection is 5/5! Everything else is just dragging it down. read more

I've tried it a few times and actually got food last time with my bf. The food was disappointing. I had a turkey panini which was hard to finish because it wasn't very good. The Bavarian pretzels were good however, the beer cheese was grainy and not made correctly. The salt and cracked pepper chips sounded good but were disappointing. Wow, what a gem in such a small town. There are so many local beers available here, as well as ciders and spirits. It's difficult to choose... good thing you can get a flight for a very reasonable price! It varies for each beer but I got to try seven Michigan beers for $15. The bartenders advised well and the atmosphere is nice, although it was a little noisy. There was also a family with two babies; I will never understand why you would want to bring those to a bar. Great place to meet with your friends and try a bunch of beers. They also serve food like hotdogs and cheese plates but I didn't try any this time. read more

I have now been to the Taproom 3 times since the initial disaster. The service has been much better, but it also hasn't been as busy. I enjoy beer flights and being able to taste all the great Michigan beers. There is a store near my home that has most of the selections in stock, so I am now able to purchase more confidently. Appetizers and sandwiches are creatively tasty and not over-priced. Tabuoli salad is pleasant change from the french fries you get at most bars. I would recommend this place for any beer lover. Don't bother, the owner clearly spent a lot of money getting the place ready to open but wouldn't serve six of us when we came in the first time to try it out. We walked in at last call, about 10:15-10:20. I went to the bar and the bartender said he would serve us, I turned around to tell my friends to step up and order - but another person was telling them sorry we were too late. It was the owner. When we asked why we couldn't get served (there were probably 20 people there on a Wednesday night) he told us he didn't want to pay overtime. It is really sad that he would turn away first time customers and make such a bad impression. I guess he isn't making money yet and forgetting that happy returning customers are the key to a successful business. Go to the Midland Brewing Company, they are great to their customers! read more

One of the few gems Midland has to offer, it's open atmosphere gives you a rare (in midland) modern urban feel. The seats aren't the most comfortable but that's part of the experience. The environment is usually somewhat packed and noisy but they always have an open seat. They're decked out with a bunch of games so it's clear their hope is for you to lounge there a bit. The staff are friendly (albeit their attention is a bit brief). They come right away, very knowledgable about the huge selection of beer. They allow up to two samples before making you pay for a flight.. But their selection is very thorough and caters to anyone, from people who hate beer to beer connoisseurs. The "bar food" is absolutely delicious, try their grilled cheese.. Best I've ever had. Don't go expecting a filling meal, it's not dinner grade stuff, you may not leave full.. But it's nice late night snacking. I do agree with the other reviews that the early stopping time is a bit unusual, and one of the glaring downsides to this joint, but for midland... I love trying new beers and of course new eateries so this place was right up my alley. I've been here a few times since they opened now, one being on the grand opening. Each time I went to WhichCraft I wanted to love it, but I come away from my experience with just an OKAY place to go in Midland. Pros: Locally owned gives major points, and the decor isn't half bad. The feel of the place definitely pushes a younger crowd. Cons: Getting to the just okay parts... every single time I have ever been to this place the lights are obnoxiously bright, bright enough to the point where I order one beer and want to leave. It's not inviting at all... Food, well the menu, it sucks. They have a mix of Mediterranean items, paninis, and hot dogs. Yep, hot dogs. Don't plan on coming here to fill up on delicious appetizers. AND service. Hmm... Well they are young and clearly inexperienced. Oh, and weird layout with the florescent lights from the back of house visible in the bar area and when you walk to the washroom it feels as if you're walking to the kitchen. Overall I probably won't go back unless they decide to make some changes. Biggest drawback is that the place just isn't that inviting. When I go out for a drink I want to sit and relax... However, it's just too loud in there they have wood floors and a wood ceiling with brick walls. I had to shout at my companion the whole time we were there which is not OK in my book would it kill them to put just a little bit of sound damping materials in the ceiling? The sound system is just two speakers behind the bar which you can't hear over the noise anyway, so I don't even now why they even try. Now the prices are a bit high a flight of 5 4 oz beers is around $11-$15 dollars whereas I would get 8 4 oz beers at Midland Brewery for $11. So, in closing I want to love Whichcraft but they need to make some major changes before I would add them to my A+ list they get a C+ from me. read more

Quite simply the best place to get beer in all of mid-Michigan. A large constantly changing collection of Michigan craft beers, meades, wines, and craft liquors. A extremely helpful and knowledgeable staff who are also friendly and fun. A small but very good menu for snacks or light meals. All this in a wonderful ambiance with a friendly crowd that ranges from just legal to drink to their great-grandparents. Lots of old school games to play and often on the weekends live music. My husband and I decided to check Whichcraft out on Saturday. We arrived at 11:20 and went to get a table. We knew they closed at 12, but figured that would be enough time to get a beer, and a feel for the place. As I headed toward our chosen spot we were informed that they had just called last call, so we couldn't get a drink. I was shocked that they would refuse a customer 40 minutes before closing. It is SO BRIGHT t in this place. I think they went to Home Depot and bought every LED bulb they had in stock. Bars are supposed to be dark. It has a weird family feel to it. You go in at 8:30 or 9:00 for a beer and there are grandparents and kids sitting at half the tables with pops. It's just weird. It's also really, really loud inside. That said, the beer selection is huge. The prices on the beer are not too bad, and you shouldn't have a problem finding some stuff that you like. But if you don't like something on a flight don't force yourself to drink it. You'll end up with a bad stomach ache the next day. The bartenders are good but the waiters aren't that great. And then there's a huge table by the front that waiters don't even serve? The food isn't bad but it's overpriced. $6 for a hotdog? $7 for grill cheese sandwich? Give me a break. It also closes at Midnight which is weird for a bar. Not sure what's up with that. read more

It's always packed, but they also blast the music. My girlfriend and I are somewhat soft-spoken, so it's impossible for us to have a conversation while there. read more

My best friend took us to this place because she knew that we love to try new drinks. We got two flights of beer with 10 different beers and the price was definitely not bad. Between the two flights of beer and the one glass my husband had we spent less than $25. The service was great. They were not bothersome and in your face but helpful if you needed it. the selection was immense! You are greeted with a giant sheet with a list of wines and beers on both sides. The atmosphere was relaxing. It got a little loud but not crazy. We were able to sit and drink and play board games. They have a large selection of games to be played on the back wall for free. They do close earlier than most bars but it is a place to relax and taste test different drinks not a full-blown bar. However we did not taste the food so I cannot attest to that. read more

Witchcraft is my favorite bar in Midland. It has a cool atmosphere, food is good, although selection is small, and beer selection is good. Love the atmosphere in this place - the decor is a nice mix of reclaimed wood tables and a soft industrial style, the vibe is chill, and the servers are friendly and well-informed. Excellent rotating beer selection with the option to order 4oz samplers or larger sizes (e.g. pints, etc.). Loved my beer and liked my food. Had the turkish lamb and chick pea soup (excellent!) and the chicken adobo panini (fine!). Would likely have a hot dog the next time - they seem to be the solid choice in food at WhichCraft.
