Of course husband last minute says day of birthday celebration that we need a cake. Found Izumi…read moreCakes on Yelp and was bummed at first because the soonest online reservation for a cake would be two days later. Husband called them around 11am and they said they were in the middle of making their strawberry cakes so they could add our order in for a same day pickup at 4pm. Pickup went well and the cake was so cute and it tasted great! Like the Chinese bakery strawberry cream cake with a moist sponge cake; not too sweet, just right. Might sound basic but it was done very well. Would 100% recommend. I don't know prices for cakes nowadays but I didn't feel bad paying about $60 for a cute and tasty cake (6", strawberry cream cake). I wouldn't bank on same day pickups, I might've just been very lucky they were in the middle of making their cakes but it wouldn't hurt to try calling early in the day if you're in a pinch for a solid cake. I'm very thankful for their service!

This spot is takeout-only, so don't plan on stopping by for long. Finding parking isn't difficult…read morebut might take a minute on busy days, as it shares a parking lot with the rest of a popular plaza. The store itself is easy to find as well, with a clear label outside. Walking in, it looks half-closed--their cakes are all stored in a large refrigerator, with nothing in the case on the counter. There is a sign proclaiming "takeout only" in slight disarray, and the seating is pushed to the side. That said, the service is friendly and the employees are quick to help you and show you what they have in stock for takeout. I ordered the 4" Berry Berry Light Cake for a birthday, and they were able to write a birthday message on the cake board, which I really appreciated. The cake also tasted very light and the sweetness was subtle, which I really enjoyed. The berry flavor in the sponge was a little too subtle, though. My main concern is that the cake does not fully resemble the picture they advertised online. It is missing the freeze-dried berries on top, and the berry glaze did not reach as far down the cake as was shown in the photo. Because the berry glaze is the main source of the berry flavor, this was a little disappointing. Also, the cake was not finished when I came to pick up the cake (and I was ~5 minutes late). I'm uncertain if this is for freshness or if there is another reason. Overall, I like the spot for the fresh and light cake. It's pleasantly unique compared to your standard sheet cake, and everything is rather cute. However, it may be a better idea to buy the cakes in-person to be 100% sure of what it will look like, though daily stock is definitely more limited than if you place an order online. I hope they reopen their indoor seating soon.

I couldn't have asked for a better experience when working with Laurel for my wedding cake. :)…read more Listen, I'm a foodie and I know a few things when it comes to cake. Laurel is the real deal! I tried a couple of her famous flavors before deciding- Neapolitan and an intense chocolate cake (I forget the exact name). Holy cannoli. First we'll talk about the Neapolitan- amazingly clever layers of chocolate and vanilla cake with not-too-sweet strawberry cream. Laurel's cake texture is perfection every time, moist and soft. The flavors were scrumptious. LOVE ON A PLATE. The chocolate which I got for my then fiance's birthday. Delicious, moist chocolate cake with layers of filling- chocolate buttercream (which I would bathe in if given the chance and guarantee that no one would judge me) as well as a light chocolate mousse. It was delicious but not too rich so that I could enjoy my whole piece of cake. I went with the Neapolitan for our wedding cake. It was gorgeous and amazing, beautifully decorated. People said they really liked it, including my sister and she is extremely picky. :P I will be going to Laurel for future cakes! I'll attach pictures when I get a chance. :)

I got the 4 inch bento cake with vanilla cake and chocolate frosting. I sent her a reference photo of what I wanted the cake to look like, and it came out just as I wanted! (if not better!!!) The frosting on the exterior of the cake was SO GOOD. Tasted very buttery and not too sweet. It was really addicting and the two of us finished the cake easily in one sitting. I also got a set of 5 Pure Milk Macarons, which were chewy and the filling was so creamy and chilled! Very much tasted like ice cream in the center. Overall, not too sweet and very delicious! She also gave us very thorough instructions on how to eat and store the macrons. Super helpful.

Pros: Cake is great…read more Cons: The owner is extremely rude. There are many people who bake good cakes. Choose one who will also be nice to you :) Also IMO, the cake is expensive (but take this with a pinch of salt as I have not ordered such cakes before). Edited - adding more details: To give you an idea of what it is like communicating with this business, here is the exact timeline of our order: We had a phone call with the owner where we asked her the estimate for a 2 tier cake. We described a cake she had made previously. She said she dint remember the exact cake. We told her we will share a screenshot of the IG image. She said 2 tier cakes start at $350. We told her the date we wanted the cake for and confirmed that we will be making the booking and that we can discuss the details on chat: [My Husband]: Hi [Owner]. We just spoke on the call. Can you give us an estimate for this [Theme] cake? [Owner]: Okay this cake is $375 for the two tier with some Discount. Do you also want the cupcakes? [My Husband]: Yes. I would like to order. What flavor is the cake? Can you make it $350? No we don't need cupcakes. [Owner]: No, I mentioned to you. It starts at $350 and I already gave you a discount. So now the cake can be $400. [My Husband]: Alright. What flavor is the cake? Note: The owner then sent deposit instructions and ignored the question about the flavor. (The next day) [Me]: What flavor is the cake? [Owner]: You can choose two flavors - vanilla, chocolate, red velvet, cookies and cream, marble, funfetti, strawberry. [Me]: Is it per tier? Then let's do chocolate for the big one and vanilla for the small one. [Owner]: Sure. (A few days before the event) [Me]: Hi [Owner]. [Our friend] will pick up the cake on Saturday. Can he come around 4:30pm? He will give you the exact ETA when he is about to leave. Are there any pick up instructions? [Owner]: Hello I am only Home till 1230 pm [Me]: Okay. We (or our friend) will come around 12pm. [Owner]: Thank you! And the cake will be tightly packed and fit into your trunk. Can you message before you head over and remaining is due anytime before pickup thank you! $200. Thanks! [Me]: Yes, we'll venmo you when we come there. [Owner]: Before pickup please then I can pack it up (On the morning of the event) [Me]: Hi. I just sent the rest of the payment. [Owner]: Received thanks! What's your eta? [Me]: 12pm. I can get there by 11 too if you want. [Owner]: 11 would be better if that works [Me]: Sounds good, see you at 11!

I ordered a custom cake from Sapna for my friend's 32nd birthday, and she did such a beautiful job…read more The cake was inspired by Taylor Swift, designed in the shape of a heart with a vintage touch, and it came out absolutely stunning--white, elegant, and the perfect size for the celebration. Sapna is incredibly artistic and had the cake ready right on time. The flavor was red velvet, very aesthetic and eye-catching. Personally, I usually prefer a bit more moisture in cakes, but it was still delicious and beautifully made. My friend, who has a big sweet tooth, absolutely loved it--so it turned out to be just right for her. The best way to get the ideal outcome is to share your vision with Sapna, along with your preferences for flavor and sweetness--she's very talented and will bring it to life beautifully. Overall, Sapna's creativity and attention to detail really shine through in her work, and I'd definitely recommend her for custom cakes.

I've tried several…read moredifferent items over the years, but my favorites are the pineapple bun, hot dog bun, and garlic bun. While the prices are a bit higher than at some other bakeries, the buns are consistently fresh and worth it. The bakery itself is quite small. It is not very clean or appealing. Everything displayed is generally what's available for purchase, with the exception of cakes. They usually have a limited selection of cakes ready to buy, but most custom cakes require advance ordering and prepayment. The service is decent, though not particularly warm or engaging. The staff are efficient, but there isn't much interaction, and they aren't especially friendly. They accept both cash and credit cards, although there is a service fee for card payments. Since it's conveniently located in a shopping plaza just about 10 minutes from my workplace, it's an easy stop whenever I'm craving fresh buns. Despite the slightly higher prices and average service, I enjoy the quality of the baked goods and will continue coming back.

I thought it might have been tax, but then I asked for an itemized receipt, and it turns out they charged a $0.15 cent credit card fee! The cashier did ask how I was planning to pay, cash or card, but never mentioned anything about charging a credit card fee. One would think they would have signs stating there is a fee when using credit cards, but I didn't see one. Anyhow...besides that, I didn't feel as if the chocolate honeymoon cake bread was worth the price point they are charging. I'm not sure I would come back. Skip.
