This spot is takeout-only, so don't plan on stopping by for long. Finding parking isn't difficult but might take a minute on busy days, as it shares a parking lot with the rest of a popular plaza. The store itself is easy to find as well, with a clear label outside. Walking in, it looks half-closed--their cakes are all stored in a large refrigerator, with nothing in the case on the counter. There is a sign proclaiming "takeout only" in slight disarray, and the seating is pushed to the side. That said, the service is friendly and the employees are quick to help you and show you what they have in stock for takeout. I ordered the 4" Berry Berry Light Cake for a birthday, and they were able to write a birthday message on the cake board, which I really appreciated. The cake also tasted very light and the sweetness was subtle, which I really enjoyed. The berry flavor in the sponge was a little too subtle, though. My main concern is that the cake does not fully resemble the picture they advertised online. It is missing the freeze-dried berries on top, and the berry glaze did not reach as far down the cake as was shown in the photo. Because the berry glaze is the main source of the berry flavor, this was a little disappointing. Also, the cake was not finished when I came to pick up the cake (and I was ~5 minutes late). I'm uncertain if this is for freshness or if there is another reason. Overall, I like the spot for the fresh and light cake. It's pleasantly unique compared to your standard sheet cake, and everything is rather cute. However, it may be a better idea to buy the cakes in-person to be 100% sure of what it will look like, though daily stock is definitely more limited than if you place an order online. My sister stumbled across Izumi Cakes while she was looking for something to celebrate our matcha loving cousin. Izumi seemed perfect given the fact that there are a good variation of sizes that could be bought. The design was simply but had a slightly fancy feel to it- exactly what we were hoping for! The parking lot isn't too big but is also seldomly visited due to its variety of businesses here and being overshadowed by the main Little Taipei mall down the street certainly makes an impact. The main draw for their cakes has got to be their lightness - the chiffon style sponge cake is executed well and will not be too filling to eat. The light texture of the sponge cake is perfect for those celebrations following a nice meal and the flavors infused into the cake are perfect complements to any cuisine. Flavor options are also a highlight. Their website supports pre-orders up to 24 hours in advance but since we were in a pinch for time, we called the day of our celebration at around opening time (11 am) and asked about reserving a cake. We were lucky as they happened to have their small hojicha cake ready by the time we were planning to pick up and the staff held the cake for us. Upon arriving, the staff at T4/Izumi Cakes were still working on other cake orders and fortunately, they remembered our phone call and we got our cake packaged up in no time. The size of the small cake was perfect for a group of 8 where each person had a small tasting. I'd imagine the larger ones could serve upwards of 12 to 18 people, however the larger 6 inch and 8 inch cakes will require advanced ordering. The hojicha cake was light and fluffy with strong tea flavor baked into the cake. The light cream and glaze added a bit of flavor and moistness to each bite but it was not at all too sweet. It was the perfect cake for our birthday VIP as they're on the more senior side and prefer lower sweetness levels. The prices are certainly competitive, however, it does seem rather high for the size of cake if you don't factor in the complexity of the flavor infused into the sponge cake and beautiful glaze decorating it. But compared to competitors, the cost is fair for what you are getting! Overall, Izumi Cakes will have you raving for their chiffon cakes as we became fans and very likely will be back for our next celebration. Being in south Fremont is a bit out of the way for us but it's worth the trek for their unique and strong flavors. Found Izumi Cakes on Yelp and was bummed at first because the soonest online reservation for a cake would be two days later. Husband called them around 11am and they said they were in the middle of making their strawberry cakes so they could add our order in for a same day pickup at 4pm. Pickup went well and the cake was so cute and it tasted great! Like the Chinese bakery strawberry cream cake with a moist sponge cake; not too sweet, just right. Might sound basic but it was done very well. Would 100% recommend. I don't know prices for cakes nowadays but I didn't feel bad paying about $60 for a cute and tasty cake (6", strawberry cream cake). I wouldn't bank on same day pickups, I might've just been very lucky they were in the middle of making their cakes but it wouldn't hurt to try calling early in the day if you're in a pinch for a solid cake. Randomly nestled in a boba place in a shopping plaza, most people honestly wouldn't know they even sell cakes unless you find them online, which is also the easiest way to make orders. Asking about stuff like ambience is pretty much irrelevant since almost nobody orders large cakes and eats them on the spot (honestly very based move to do so), but I would say that the service is fantastic. They do try to be very speedy and the one time I ordered my cake for a party two days later, they actually gave remarkably detailed instructions/hints on how to keep the cake fresher for longer (because they make each day to order fresh!). Finally, the cake itself is very good. Pretty much every flavor I've tried (winter bunny, oreo cake, and hojicha) has been super creamy and not overpoweringly sweet (like most commercial cakes are). This is pretty much one of the best cakes you can ever get for someone who goes "oh, nice, not too sweet." It also allows the flavor of whatever flavor you select to be pretty prominent. For example, the hojicha flavor had one of the most potent hojichas I've ever tasted. Also, the boxing is pretty nice.
