Whiskey Ridge is a local steak house that sources their beef locally. Overall the food here was really good. Starting with the Oysters which were fresh and the horseradish has a real good kick! Personally I prefer a steak to be cooked with nothing fancy. Here they add a butter on top on serving which is ok but not for me. Either way the New York strip was done as ordered and the filet was great. The best shareable is the mashed potato. The desert - a pecan pie with a dollop of ice cream was surprisingly delicious. The waiter was friendly and very attentive. Although getting a spot for Saturday was impossible the restaurant was wide open on Sunday night. UPDATE: Have been back a few times since my original review and they have settled in nicely. Ribeye was perfect, Broiled oysters are great. Poblano burger is bangin'. Wedge salad with bacon strips instead of chopped is a miss but overall. Love the place- updating to 4 stars. NOTE: You should go try this place. Enjoyed it more than 3/5 stars but being as objective as I can be. Overall we are very happy that WR is open and will definitely be back. The restaurant is great looking with a great vibe and design. The cocktails, especially the signature drinks, were very well done and reasonably priced. The guy next to us was very impressed with the frozen margaritas. Service is what you'd expect for a brand new restaurant that is slammed at opening and working out the kinks. The staff itself seemed a touch inexperienced (didn't know what a Manhattan was, returned to the table multiple times to confirm order details, etc) but nothing that was egregious on the side of poor service. Everyone was extremely friendly and approachable and it was evident that what they may lack in experience they make up for in effort and seemingly genuinely invested in you enjoying yourself. The food itself was a bit underwhelming but it was on the right track and I think once the kitchen and service find their groove the overall quality of the food will be better- but you could just tell the kitchen staff and bartending staff were a bit over whelmed. For example- burgers were a bit dry and over done, beef short rib and jalapeño grits were on the bland side- nachos and Reuben had cheese that was barely melted. Some of the cocktails were inconsistently made. Just things that seem to happen when a kitchen/bar is rushed. The deviled eggs with fried oysters were absolutely delicious and we are excited to try the raw bar next time we are back. All in all - definitely happy to have a place like this in the area. I visit Wimberley about once a month and love trying new restaurants in town. I was excited to check this place out after hearing about it, especially since the ambiance and decor are absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately, the food did not live up to the setting. I ordered the 12-ounce center-cut filet, cooked over oak, for $64. At that price, I expected a top-tier steakhouse experience, but what I got was disappointing. The steak came out with a burnt, charred crust, was overcooked, and was overly salty. It lacked the tenderness and quality I would expect at this price point. To make matters worse, there was no fresh bread like you'd get at places like Ruth's Chris, and the sides were underwhelming--the mashed potatoes were the best thing on the plate, but the green beans reminded me of something from Cracker Barrel. For a small-town restaurant, this pricing feels out of place unless the quality and service match a true fine dining experience. If you're going to charge premium steakhouse prices, the food, execution, and service need to be on par with that level. Unfortunately, this felt more like an upscale country bar serving a steak that should have been priced at $35-$40 instead of $64. Date night and we decided to give this spot a try. I have seen mixed reviews so I was hoping for the best and prepared for not the greatest. Boy I was pleasantly surprised. This place is wonderful! We had a reservation. We were seated immediately. The place was packed. The bar was as well. Big TVs on the bar area looked like they have a patio which I'll try next time. Inside is beautiful. The wallpapers in the restroom as well as the restaurant are unique and lovely. The big lamp shades that hang over you are cool along with touches of western decor are just a perfect touch. Everywhere I looked I saw something different. Our server was this lovely gal Alyssa. She was cheerful and welcomed us and gave us just a great dining experience. The food. Most important topic here. I had the tuna tartare tostadas to start. Delicious! For dinner my hubs had the chicken fried ribeye. It was huge and really tasty. I had the 12oz waygu strip it was cooked to perfection with a delicious crust on top. For dessert we had the apple strawberry cobbler topped with vanilla ice cream. That dessert took a few extra minutes to get to us with warning from our server. No complaints, it's worth the wait! It was phenomenal. No aside from the beautiful decor, amazing service and delicious food. I will warn you that it is a little loud inside. The ceilings are high and there isn't a lot to buffer the noise. Just make sure you speak a little louder to each other. It wasn't anything to make us not want to return, but worth mentioning incase you are noise sensitive or hearing impaired. Took my 7 year old here for a daddy daughter dinner. First thing she said was "this place is fancy". Sat outside on a beautiful evening and got to just talk which was great. Ordered the oysters on the half shell and when I tell you they tasted fresh, I mean it. I grew up on the gulf, and these were a solid 5*. My daughter ordered a burger. Be aware, no kids options. Waiter suggested just a burger which she loved. I had a wagyu NY strip that was great. I've had Japanese wagyu, and this is definitely not that. Still a great steak. I had Chicken fried chicken and my Mother had the bacon wrapped shrimp and Mac n cheese. All was really good. We ordered the brownie w/ ice cream and the pecan pie w/ ice cream for dessert. We were so stuffed that we didn't get to eat much of the desserts but what we had was delicious. Anyway, it is a great place to have dinner and they can easily accommodate big parties. The food was delicious, but a little odd. Steaks were well cooked, but à la carte. No side salad, or baked potato. Caesar salad was a great "split", other than the "Crouton" could "break a tooth". Sautéed mushrooms were great, as were the mashed potatoes. One of the few places I hat I didn't leave with a "I could've cooked this equal or better". If ordering the rathe "thick" filet/tenderloin, maybe one level up on cooking might be nice. Service was good, but not great. The ambiance was a little loud for the actual number of people. First let me start with a positive note: the atmosphere in the restaurant is quite lovely. I like how the kitchen is visible from the general seating area. Unfortunately, that also showed how nice and speedy food prep was and how many plates of piping hot food was left under heat lamps for an infuriating amount of time. By the time the food got to the table it was cold and soggy (despite the heat lamps). The restaurant wasn't crowded or anything so I couldn't comprehend why food was essentially left there to rot under heat lamps. Our food was bland and unremarkable. I ordered the chicken fried steak and their take on gravy was some sort of bitter tomato based sauce that didn't seem to match flavor profile of the steak. The steak itself was good beneath the soggy breading that was no longer crisp because of how long it deteriorated beneath the heat lamps. The Mac and cheese was bland and cold. The mashed potatoes tasted like the powdered kind you just add water to. The food was not worth the price at all. Maybe I needed to order the whiskey so I could've been intoxicated enough to have my taste buds dulled to enjoy the food. Overall I would not come back, but I understand the appeal because of the nice building and it being the only restaurant in the middle of nowhere. My husband and I split the cowboy ribeye and the steak melted in our mouth. Don't miss out on the coleslaw!!! Fantastic and unique side dish. For dessert, we had a peach and blackberry cobbler served with a king's serving of vanilla bean ice cream. It was a perfect balance of tartness and sweetness. Finally, our second language is whiskey. I sincerely hope the owner reads and listens to peoples concerns and issues on here, because they are legit. The food is just too expensive for what you get. Either there needs to be a change in the kitchen, or the menu price needs to be lowered significantly. The meats for the grill are just not of the quality to be charging that price. I mean that sincerely. Steaks are not great and pork chop had zero sear--just a big hunk of pork with little flavor for $41. The drink menu is good, but drinks are inconsistent and pretty average. Went to whiskey ridge last night. John was our waiter and did a great job. We had 4 of us. We split the gumbo, crab claws, guacamole and Wedge salad to start off. All were wonderful. My brother had the pork chop which enough for 2 easily and was cooked perfectly. My sister in law had the shrimp another wonderful dish. My wife had the salmon. It was a little salty but still very good. I had the chicken fried rib eye. Another sharable dish. The chicken fried was perfect with a awesome gravy on it. We shared the strawberry and apple cobbler with vanilla bean ice cream. So good! The owner Doug came by our table which was a very nice touch. We waited a few weeks after opening to try this new restaurant that opened in our area. We didn't have reservations and it was a Friday night. It was packed. We waited outside and had a cocktail. It was in the 50s so not outdoor temp eating. The manager came to check on us and put a heater behind us to keep us warm. I was impressed that they he led on us several times. Most placed forget about you when you sit outside. They were super friendly. We got seated about 30-40 minutes later. The exterior look fits so well with the area. There are ample parking. The outdoor patio is large with two fireplace and lots of heaters and screens to block the wind. They have outdoor sofas with blankets for cold nights. The inside has a modern decor with modern country furnishings. The kitchen is open. There is a bar with large TVs, indoor dining and outdoor dining. The menu was not too large but I like it that way. They have items from the grill like a steakhouse, burgers, salads and seafood. It's a mix of American with a few Cajun and healthier potions. They have an extensive liquor menu and about 8-12 beers on tap. We got the Rueben, deviled eggs with oysters and bacon, gumbo, grilled shrimp wrapped in bacon. The food tasted different from what we were expecting especially the Rueben but it was very good. We got several drinks from the whiskey menu and they were excellent. Service was excellent. I would recommend them. If you tried them when they first opened and may have had a not so good experience, try them again. I believe they got the kinks worked out. read more

First-time review based on their Sunday Brunch Buffet: The buffet was nicely stocked. Here are my thoughts on some of the items I tried: Biscuits: Really good with a soft texture. I wished they'd have had some jam options to go with it. UPDATE: Went back the following weekend, and they had jam packets available. Chicken Tenders: I love a good tender, but this missed the mark due to its complete lack of seasoning on the chicken and the breading. Sausage: Homemade sausage was delicious! I was concerned when it mentioned having sage because some restaurants that add it go overboard. Not this place, though. The seasoning was well-balanced. Texas Ranch Casserole: Another successful dish. It was well seasoned and had a little kick. They could wrap that mixture in a tortilla for a to-go bite, and I'd be tempted to go out of my way to get one. Chicken-n-Dumplins: Oh my! This was comfort food at its finest. I could have a bowl of that once a week. I will keep that dish in mind if I ever need to be nursed back to health with some hot, delicious, hearty soup. Adding celery and carrot pieces would be nice, but really, they're not needed. Jar this up to sell, and I'll be a repeat customer. Guacamole: Very well done! Seasoned throughout and had a nice pico de gallo with it. Cinnamon Rolls: Soft and fluffy, but in desperate need of more icing on top. I noticed when I got there that customers before had picked the ones with the most. This could be avoided if all the rolls were coated evenly or give the option to add more by placing some off to the side. Bubbles Bar: I found this confusing. At first, I thought it was an all you can drink/serve yourself option. Instead, the price was per glass. The wait staff brings you an almost full glass of bubbly (much appreciated), then you take it up to the bar area to add whatever juice and fruit option they offered to your drink. I would have preferred to order what kind I wanted at my table instead of having the customer foot traffic of going to the bar area. Overall, this was a successful brunch buffet. As mentioned, I would have tweaked a few things. It would have also been nice to have a French Toast or pancake option. This buffet was very savory forward. I didn't mind it because I usually opt for a savory dish after 11a, but adding what I mentioned above would have made this buffet perfection. We will definitely be back, not only for brunch, but are looking forward to trying their dinner menu. Great job! read more
