It was a beautiful summer night and we wanted to dine outside, so we decided to give this place a shot. When we arrived, we paused and said "wait...this place looks familiar". We later learned that it used to be a Mexican place called Montage Grill that we had been to once - the current place opened in March 2020, which explained why we had never been here. The super friendly hostess told us that the wait for an outdoor table was 30 minutes and she grabbed a table in the bar area for us while we waited. While at the bar, we ordered a couple of drinks. They have a huge list of Old Fashioneds (hence the "whiskey" part of their name) - I got a peanut butter old fashioned which was as delicious as it sounds. My wife ordered a frozen margarita, which came is a glass big enough to swim in (slight exaggeration) and was only $8! While at the bar, we snacked on some chips and guac, which were good. When a table opened up outside, the hostess helped us move out there. We were glad to get outside, because it was pretty loud inside. In our new location we ordered some queso to have with our leftover chips and it was fantastic. By this point we weren't even that hungry, so we ordered modesty. My wife got the chimichanga - I tasked a little and it was very good. I opted for a couple of the street tacos (hence the "taco" part of the name)- the bang bang shrimp and chicken parm. I really enjoyed both of them. The inside part of this place didn't do much for me, but I would definitely go back and hang out outside again! read more

I had been here once previously, when it was Montage Grill, but it was like 65 degrees out (in March!) and my boyfriend and I wanted to dine out on a patio, since I'm still not dining indoors due to COVID. I asked around on Facebook for the best nearby patios, and someone suggested WTF (Whiskey Taco Foxtrot), so we tried it out today. Great location right on Main St. (5 minutes from my house!) and spacious patio. They started us off with some complimentary chips and salsa, and both were very good. We both got the $5 happy hour margaritas, which I believe runs from 3-6pm or 4-6pm Mondays through Fridays. My cocktail-snob boyfriend (haha, but he is ...) said the margarita was VERY good. Their menu is similar to Condado's in that you mark down what you want in pencil. We ended up getting three tacos each - the tacos are $4 which is a little pricey but not terrible, considering they are more gourmet than, say, El Guanaco up the street (which is also delicious, though). I got the steak chimichurri taco, the chicken with pico, and the fried avocado. To my surprise, the fried avocado was my favorite - it was fantastic - with the steak chimichurri being a close second, and the chicken one was okay. My boyfriend also got a steak chimichurri taco, a steak fajita taco, and a Cajun shrimp taco, and said he liked the shrimp one the best. Picked up a to-go order for lunch on Sunday--my first time trying WTF out per a recommendation of my bestie. No regrets! These tacos were delicious, flavorful, and still hot 10 minutes after I got home and dug in! I ordered three street tacos; my favorite was probably the chimichurri steak (steak, chimichurri sauce, raw white onions); the onions definitely add a bite, but mixed w the juicy steak and that chimichurri sauce--mouth watering! The shrimp fajita taco was delicious, and the shrimp was cooked perfectly! A no brained great choice! The pork canita taco was my least favorite, but I'm not a big carnitas person--just interested in their take on it. Our order came w chips and salsa, which we enjoyed munching on hours after lunch. Montage grill doesn't have a lot of pictures posted yet, which is a shame, because lacking pics of the environment made me question whether I should try it, but it was absolutely worth it! Ordering tacos like I would order sushi, I selected a variety of tacos to try and loved (!) every single one of them! We also had the complimentary serving of chips and salsa and ordered the Queso, both which I found good but... not quite mainstream (in terms of texture), which is not a bad thing! Montage has a nice selection of seating inside and out, and the selection of whiskeys is an added bonus! Not sure why this place has so many good reviews. We ordered the chip "trio" as the server called it but it came with four dips. Most of the chips were broken crumbs. The waiter was very kind and brought us new chips. The guac was basically one big chunk of avocado. The food came out at different times. The people who ordered tacos got theirs first and had finished by the time the enchiladas had come out. My dad ended up with a chicken parm taco, which he didn't order. I ordered cheese enchiladas with rojo sauce and it was so spicy I couldn't eat more than one bite. The rest of the family who likes spicy foods couldn't eat it either. I can't believe this is our first time trying this restaurant, so many of our friends have been here and we finally made it tonight. We came for dinner on a Friday night and it was very energetic! It was packed and all the tables are very close. We didn't have a problem with it. But some might. Our waitress was AMAZING! I I think her name was Samantha. She was so cool and took GREAT care of us. For dinner we had chips and salsa. They were delicious with a great smoky salsa. The tacos we ordered are Bang Bang Shrimp, Crispy Fish and Carnitas, and Buffalo Chicken. The carnitas and buffalo chicken were our faves. I hate to say it, but I had a terrible dining experience here. I was excited because the name was creative and it seemed like a fun Friday night spot for tacos and drinks, but it was a huge disappointment. Our service was AWFUL. It took about 30 minutes for us to even receive our drinks and then it took an hour from sitting down to receive our food. It seemed like there was a steady crowd, but not overly busy, so I wasn't sure why there was such a delay. Our server was also very defensive when we asked about our food instead of following up with us. The food itself was okay. It is very Americanized (similar to say, Condados). Since I missed taco Tuesday. I came here on a Wednesday night and was surprised by how packed and loud it was. I did not know Wednesday nights are lively karoake nights and while it was entertaining to listen to people singing it was also very loud and made it difficult to catch up with my pal I came here with. Food wise, I was a bit surprised as I asked the waitress if chips and salsa are provided as I saw some other tables had it and she said it is if requested- so just fyi. You can order tacos a la carte on a little piece of paper they give you or choose an entree ie. Quesadilla or sides or a starter. I got the taquitos to start which were pretty good. The queso sauce was ok - just seemed to not have as much of a the creamy consistency I am used to but taste wise was decent. I ordered 3 tacos ($5 each) which were your normal size street tacos. I really enjoyed the taste of the chorizo honey bee taco and the shrimp taco I got also. The chicken fajita taco was also decent too. My friend I was with commented how other taco places may wrap your tacos so they stay warm and that was a good point - but we were hungry and ate them quickly anyways. I did appreciate how this place is open til midnight or so on a weeknight so if you did want somewhere to hang out later and eat good tacos this is a great place to do it. They also have a pretty extensive whiskey menu and my jalapeño margarita was nice and strong. The tacos here are decent and deserve a visit for sure and the parking seems a lot easier compared to other taco places (parking in front or in back of the building), so I'd visit again. read more

I absolutely love Whiskey Taco Foxtrot. They have a great little spot here in downtown Clawson. The service is always quick and friendly. They have a great patio along with a fun little bar. I can't help but be disappointed in my first WTF experience. The best part were the drinks -- I had the jalapeño margarita and my wife had the guava árbol margarita, and both were quite good (I usually don't like restaurant margaritas because they're too sweet). However, the food was disappointing for a place that claims to make authentic Mexican street tacos. First, the corn tortillas were definitely not fresh as they crumbled when I picked them up -- anyone who's had a fresh tortilla knows this shouldn't happen. And out of the 3 tacos I had, only one was good (chorizo). The carnitas and fried avocado tacos were basically flavorless, and there weren't even salsas or lime on the table to make it better -- a huge fail for a "Mexican" restaurant. The worst part was the service. The man who was assigned to our table almost seemed annoyed that we didn't have drink orders ready literally 30 seconds after sitting down, then didn't come back again for a solid 10 minutes. Then everything took forever to come out -- we literally *only* ordered tacos and it took no less than 40 minutes for them to come out... TACOS! I don't know if I caught them on a bad night, but I can't in good conscience recommend this place. Want authentic carryout tacos in the area? Go to Taco Tienda or Super Taco in Madison Heights. We each got three tacos to try. I got the fried avocado, spicy shrimp and blackened fish. The fish taco was very fishy and I wasn't able to finish it. For all three, I got the corn tortillas, which I wouldn't recommend. They were semi fried, not crunch but also not soft and very chewy. They were almost hard to bite through. Not sure if they were meant to be hard shell and we're not deep fried long enough, but I'd definitely recommend the flour shells over the corn, in this case. My husband ordered the chimichurri steak, roasted poblano pepper with beef, and I don't remember the last one but it just tasted like a regular ground beef taco with both hard and soft shell. This is one of my go-to places in Clawson. I have a gluten allergy and never have an issue when coming here and eating. I just let my server know and they make sure to keep my tacos separate for anyone who is eating gluten at my table. I always get the beans and rice with no issues. I have eaten the chips but be aware that they are in a shared fryer so if you have a super sensitive allergy, don't eat those. But they have soft corn tortillas and amazing margaritas! As you can see, it's still carry out... only for a week longer! Let's start with the slightly negative, the chorizo and the fish, way too salty. There was good flavor underneath it all but it took a lot of raised eyebrow chewing to get there. That was the only negative. The bang bang shrimp was by far my favorite. Great flavor and perfect mix of savory and sweet. The shrimp had great bite to it. I would get this one again for sure. The next best, the potato and avocado! What a simple yet amazing taco, and there was no meat to talk about. There's the perfectly subtle hint of spice with each bite. The potatoes are in little cubes so you get some in every bite. My next favorite was the soft crunchy soft beef. Not much to explain here because everyone knows when you throw in a soft shell around a hard shell, you're already winning. This one is a must try as well. The carnitas could've been fantastic, but it was just a lump of carnitas and nothing else to spice it up or make it more flavorful. But all in all, I'm sold on any place that gives me a variety of tacos. And I cannot wait to actually dine inside with some bang bang shrimp in one hand a fancy cocktail in the other. read more

Went here after discussing new restaurants with a co worker. They heard it was good. We thought we'd try it out. In driving there noticed 3 Mexican restaurants in the immediate area. El Guanaco we love, so this place was up against a high bar. This restaurant was OK. Decor is bland without any character. Food was good, not El Guanaco good, and really expensive. Like really pricy. Adding salsa to the 15$ chimichanga was $5.00. Overall, it's OK. But El Guanaco is sooo much better. And cheaper. We won't be back. Nice people work there though. read more

I don't know where to start. Came in here last night, and it was a beyond awful experience. So they are trying to rebrand themselves again. They brought me out chips and salsa. The chips were in a bag. Wow ok. The chips were not crispy for lack of a better term. They were more like Jawbreakers. They were god awful. I ordered 3 Tex Mex tacos with beans and rice. Pretty simple order. After about 20 minutes, they brought me out of my Tacos. I had to hunt down my waitress, and she seemed pretty surprised that I ordered beans and Rice. I was like you took my order and wrote it down. The Tacos were god awful, and the beans and rice were lack of flavor. So let's talk about my server. She was beyond awful not only did she make me wait to order and waited a long time to come back and check on me. When I was trying to cash out, she held me hostage, and then she disappeared with my debit card. So to add insult to injury, She charged my debit card an extra nine bucks on my card. Wtf! I called today, and they gave me some bullshit excuse about how she thought I gave her a nine dollar tip. She is delusional. They did credit my account back. But this place struggles with an identity crisis that you should stay away from. read more

I've ordered carryout from here during the pandemic and it was good but I didn't get the full experience from carryout. My friend and I ate in at WTF yesterday and the dine in experience was fantastic. Nothing beats fresh out of the kitchen perfectly warm tacos/stuffed poblanos and massive margarita for $8! Huge plus - the staff was so kind and friendly! 100% try the fried avocado taco - it's unreal The ground beef stuffed poblano was a surprise favorite for me! The quest was so good - not your cheap canned cheese but real quality cheese! And the margaritas- don't even get be started on how good these were. I had the jalapeño margaritas which was great and the mango frozen which was unreal and get this only $10 and $8 for these. It was just "ok", overall. I don't know that I'd make a trip back specifically, but perhaps I'd try it again if in the area. The chips were VERY salty and thick. But worse than that, they tasted like they'd been cooked in old oil or FAR too long. Their salsa was also super smokey tasting to me, not a personal fan of that. I like the premise of small plates and trying different things. I got two tacos and liked them both, but they are not lazy about spices. Everything was super spicy to me, and I like spice! My mom was completely unable to eat her nachos because the queso was WAY too spicy for her. She had a Miami Vice drink that was delicious, though. My dad got a burrito and LOVED it. He did think it was odd that the burrito had beans and rice in it AND he got them on the side, too. He had asked about that but I think his question just got lost in translation. The street corn was ok, I've had better. Not what we thought this place would be. But we should of kind of expected it not to be great since it was the only outdoor patio in the area that only had another table seated. The appetizer was diced up velveeta cheese with some pico on top. The chips were very hard and greasy. The burrito was an absolute miss, it was stuffed with rice, beans and steak and was served with more rice and beans on the side, absolutely no flavor to it whatsoever. Same with the tacos, no flavor at all. I have never had taco shells the texture this place served. Oily and kind of crunchy, and they were actual corn tortillas. The vegan portobello taco wasn't even salted, I asked for a small side of salsa verde and they brought it to me piping hot and also charged me $2 for it. The only reason they got 2 stars was for the super friendly service. The staff was very nice, always smiling. But no I would never return here again, nor would I recommend it to anyone. read more
