I chose this hotel based on its proximity to Crater Lake; it was just about 30 minutes (or 15miles) away from the North Entrance. The motel is located right at the junction of 97 and 138. If you're along 97, make the turn to 138 and the motel will be to your left. If you're coming from 138, it's on the right side just before you reach 97. On the day of our arrival, I called to let them know that we won't be checking in till about 10pm. Sheila, the owner, just told us to ring the bell and knock in case the door is locked. She was still up when we arrived and she checked us in promptly. Make sure you read the receipt especially if you're staying more than a night! It turned out she only charged me for a night even though she knew we were staying 2 nights. On hindsight, no wonder she told us to check back with her the following night when we return from Crater Lake. Of course we didn't because we were too tired to remember. When we were checking out, she explained that she only charged one night and casually asked if we wanted to charge the second night on the same card. It was embarrassing to think that we were ready to drive away without realizing we haven't paid for our second night. Sheila handled the situation so well that it removed any awkwardness. I normally would have rated this motel 2 stars because 1) the toilet's water pressure was so bad that you have to flush A LOT of times to clear the bowl, 2) the tub looked dirty because of grout 3) the electrical outlets were practically useless because the plugs kept falling off. I did mention the toilet issue to Sheila when we checked out. She was thankful for bringing it to her attention and said she will have someone look at it right away. On the bright side, they have1) a mini fridge and microwave in the unit, 2) free coffee and pastries in the morning, 3) free wifi, and 4)relatively cheap rate. But I think Sheila is really the saving factor in this whole scenario. She is friendly and genuinely nice that I can't help but root for her and her continued success.

Randomly chose to stay the night here and absolutely loved it. We stayed in room 8. In all ways, this place is a time capsule, and I hope it never changes. Do not expect luxury - expect a clean roadside motel room built from decades old locally sourced wood paneling, with an amazing movie selection to choose from, and a close drive to amazing nature all around you. The owner is super sweet and is aware and respectful of Covid-related concerns, and you can buy ice for your cooler and other necessities from her in the office. There is a bbq/picnic area in front available for use, and each room has a microwave and mini fridge for your own food/bev. Pet-friendly, and most importantly, welcoming to people of all colors and identities, unlike some other establishments in the area. Thank you for a good nights sleep, and good conversation over coffee before taking off for our adventures. I will certainly be back!

Approximately a week before I booked a room at the Best Western Newberry in La Pine Oregon, I was…read morenotified that my cousin was in ICU in Bend- to say this was shocking would be an understatement. I rushed to Bend to be at her bedside, she was only 51, and sadly she passed three days later. I drove approximately 200 miles home to pick up my husband and son and put together a few things. Also I booked a room with Best Western Newberry because I needed to go back to La Pine for an impromptu funeral for my cousin. Once I checked into the hotel and I had seen the room I was given, I was appalled! I then requested another room, but I was informed there were no available rooms, except for possibly one that wouldn't even be open until Thursday at 2, but I would have to be out by 11, then move again to a another room that would possibly be open on Friday at 2. You can see by the attached photos unsafe exposed ducting, wires, window screen and not mention the dirty moldy stall shower. The air conditioning unit sometimes worked and I did call the front desk to asked for maintenance. I was informed not to adjust the thermostat, there were problems with the unit and it would freeze over. Therefore it was either hot in the room or freezing. I could not even open the window to cool the room off due to window screen being so damaged that insects or whatever could get in and also I was concerned for my family's safety. The Wi-Fi was horrible! Completely unstable, it continuously dropped, I would have to re-login so often that I actually memorize the login and password. The Wi-Fi could not even support my own logged in channels on the TV. I was so fed up. I just used my own data so my son could watch shows and our cell phones could have internet. There were no power sources near the bed whatsoever so charging our phones, etc., was ridiculous. I truly did not feel safe in the room with all the issues, especially the exposed wires. Unfortunately, I felt had no other choice but to stay in the room I was given. I had to be in La Pine. I called the hotel and spoke with the manager after we checked out and got home. The hotel manager stated that the room that I thought I booked was misadvertised on the Best Western Newberry hotel webpage and I was actually booked for ADA room. Shel also stated that I should have expressed more of the issues with the room during my stay and because I did not she could only offer me $100 or $150 gift card towards another stay with best Western Hotels. I respectfully declined. I truly don't understand what difference it would have made for me to express "more of the issues" with the room, also not to mention I would hope that a guest who actually needed a ADA room would not have to accept the accommodations that I was given as their only choice. I would think at the very least some form of courtesy notice from the hotel explaining the condition of the room prior to my stay would have given me a choice to change the room or even upgrade before the hotel was completely booked. I was under complete distress and did not want to cause any other conflict that may have resulted in no place for my family and I to stay for my cousin's funeral. I chose Best Western hotel because I am a Best Western member and for over $700 for 3 nights I could depend on Best Western for decent room during this devastating, heartbreaking tragedy. Unfortunately this was not the case. Please check double check and even reconsider your stay with Best Western Newberry in La Pine Oregon

However, I was surprised there was no central sanitary dump as I assumed and most reputable camp grounds that offer RV sites always have a dump station regardless of individual site connections. You should know that if you need to dump your RV tanks and reserve a partial hookup site, they will charge you $20 to use one of the full hookup sites sanitary dump. If those full hookup sites are full you are shit out of luck. Also know the laundry facility is $10 for the room key. Machines are no cost (if they work). So do as many loads as you can. Bathrooms are relatively clean. Expect to wait a while if the park is full as there is only one shower. Opps! Beware of charges to your credit card. There are many review comments abroad about this facility potentially scamming customers with faulty or dishonest charges without their permission. Check and double check your current and pending charges on your card (before and after) leaving the resort. Websites can be deceiving: Resort website says Crater Lake is 7 -8 miles (not correct) from resort as well as 30 minutes. It's actually approx. 22 miles. Not a big deal but that should really be reflected honestly. Note to business owner Matthew: Lots of negative or oddly worded back comments from him to those customers with less than positive reviews. Thats definately not a good look. And yes, people do read them and make decisions based on those negative reviews. The ladies at the front desk: Wow, I had to walk on egg shells. One was complaining about another customer when I entered the door. Again, not a good look. It seemed as though they both were bothered by check-ins. Love the community pizza oven and gas grill. Did not get a chance to use them. This is a great place for your dog to romp in the grass Nearest grocery store is 8-9 miles away. The Resort Store has some dry goods; canned junk and frozen things. So be sure to come prepared. Especially if you want to eat healthy nutritional.

The environment itself is beautiful,…read morequiet, rustic, and surrounded by nature, but there were some serious gaps in communication that affected our stay. The on-site store had very limited essentials and only accepted cash. We were told the card machine was down, but another family checking out after a multi-day stay said it had been broken the entire time. There was no prior notice about the cash-only setup, not even an email, and that made things unnecessarily difficult for travelers just passing through. The mosquitoes were relentless. My sister, who is allergic, got bitten all over within minutes. There was no warning or signage about the bug situation and no repellents or advice offered during check-in. We ended up buying Benadryl and bug spray from the store, which thankfully helped, but it was expensive and wiped out all the cash we had. The man working at the store was incredibly kind and tried his best to help us, which we really appreciated. Inside the cabin, the space was cute and cozy but basic. There weren't many toiletries provided, so definitely bring your own shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. That said, we were really happy to have an oven and a sink, which gave us the option to cook and clean on our own. After days of road trip meals and takeout, that felt like a luxury. We also saw birds foraging near the cabin and got to canoe on the creek for free. That ended up being one of the most peaceful and memorable parts of our trip. My mom and I shared a quiet moment on the water that made the visit feel special in spite of the rough patches. This place has a lot of potential and could be great for people who arrive fully stocked and prepared. With better communication about the cash policy, mosquitoes, and what amenities are or aren't included, it could be much more welcoming for short-term visitors.

The unit I stayed in was generally clean, neat, and tidy for first impressions. Naturally the place is quite dated and could do with a Birthday. But at prices that low for perhaps a passers by, I'm not gonna be very picky. I'm very pleased at least they had a nice toilet, a shower with good water pressure and lovely hot water... I think the bathroom may have had some work done recently as a few things looked surprisingly newish. Room also came with bar fridge and microwave. A dressing table with a huge mirror, which is welcoming. Along with the nice vanity and mirrors in the bathroom. In another corner was a table with two chairs, along with a dripulator coffee machine. We had ground coffee stashed away in luggage so that was a welcoming thing. Other things are a digital clock by the bed, a chest of draws, a flat screen TV with some cable channels I'm sure. Not sure what but I'm sure there is. One downside is there's no air con for those summer months. But they do provide a fan for all those warm blooded humans!! There's also some type of heather in the wall that looked fairly old, which I didn't touch. So God only knows whether it worked or not. Could be worth a risk in winter. The bed was okay. The mattress was quite hard which I didn't mind. Thin blanket and quilt were used, so keep that in mind if you freeze at night. Pillows were also quite thin. Overall was clean. Honestly, I would say do it if you're a passersby and don't intend to stay more than a day or so. It'll do you justice. Plus on top of that there's a gas station next door which have a Subway attached and a convenience store. So food and goods literally meters away from your room... an added bonus!!
