Having just moved from California, I found myself missing the endless amounts of tasting rooms all over the area. I've been excited to start making my rounds in the Reno/Tahoe/Truckee areas and let me tell you, I started off strong! I was able to book a reservation when I Googled the tasting room. I wasn't sure I needed one so I made just to be on the safe side. Our reservation was on Saturday before Memorial day weekend so I wasn't sure how busy it would be. Our reservation was for 4:30 and we would would been okay without one. I booked a window view which gives you a nice view facing 4th street and beyond. There are so many seating options and you can't tell from the outside but there's definitely plenty of room! It looked like they have some outdoor seating as well! All three of us ordered a tasting flight and eat all shared a charcuterie board and a lobster roll. My flight was the Pinot Noir and I was very impressed! Each one was better than the last! The charcuterie board was amazing and something I'd definitely order again. The filling of the lobster roll was good but I wasn't a fan of the bread. Our server was prompt, personable, and so sweet, we enjoyed her very much! I love the different seating options and that you can look around at all the wines they have within the building. Our first experience was wonderful and I can't wait to return to try more flights and menu items. I feel this is such a nice place to celebrate, relax or enjoy a date night. Came here for our bookclub / surprise baby shower. It was my first time and I thoroughly enjoyed! The environment feels fancy and expensive. We had a table of 8 and received great service. I wanted a burger but the only meat burger option came with mushroom Brie, and I'm a mushroom hater so I was disappointed because I really wanted a burger. But the waiter was able to order me a veggie burger with a meat patty (I liked the toppings offered). It was delicious! I also ordered salt and vinegar tots with it and those were good too. I've never seen salt and vinegar offered before on fries/tots. Everyone else's dinner at my table looked so good. We had someone with the salmon, someone with salad and steak, someone with meatballs, someone with a Cuban. They all looked so good and made me want to try them all. Quality/Quantity - Today we got the following: Veggie Burger - My buddy scarfed this down?!?! Guess he was hungry since it was only 5pm when we got here. The Cubano - Good, but I expected more of a pressed sandwich. We each got the tot upgrade for $3 more. Truffle and Salt & Vinegar. The truffle was a little too salty for me and I like salt. But the Salt & Vinegar truffle was the better of two options. And to wash it all down, a bottle of Frank Family Cabernet Sauvignon. Ambiance - Personally, I loved their ambiance. I loved the wine libraries; see pictures. I love the "nooks" and all the separate spaces. We also enjoyed sitting at the bar. I appreciated the choices. Great selection of wines at reasonable prices. Plenty of private parking. The wine store is open 6 days a week from 11am to 9pm; the kitchen is open 4pm to 8:45pm. Stopped in on a weekend to try some new tequilas at the bar. They have a great selection and often have sales on select brands. I got the Casa Dragones, Anejo, and it is amazing!! Prices are competitive and staff and helpful and friendly. Place is a little crowded with seating next to some of the selections, but overall is clean and enjoyable. Didn't stop to eat here this time but have before and not been disappointed. Definitely recommend. read more

What a cool restaurant/wine bar - basically a huge wine cellar with tables spread around and a window area with beautiful views of the western mountains. Pro tip - if u have kids that need high chairs don't reserve a table by the window - those tables r high top tables and the high chairs aren't high enough - but these r the best seats in the house with the huge windows so leave ur kid at home - lesson learned Food was decent, not the best but they had a good variety - hadn't had duck or bison in awhile so that was nice Wine flights were a good price -$17 for 3 glasses - we had the red blend flight, they even have a whole page of non-alcoholic wines - but - do not recommend it tastes like grape juice with the sugar removed I'll probably have to come back to take pictures of the actual restaurant since it's so unique but my hands were a little full this time read more

Came here Friday night for a date. I ended up making reservations for 7pm and I'm glad I did because the house was packed! We started with two wine flights, a white and a red. We really enjoyed the Riesling and the Chianti. We shared the charcuterie board which was a healthy amount of food for two people. An assortment of meats, pickled veggies, bread, cheese and crackers. So many yummy combinations to make! We also shared the mussels & clams (not pictured). They were served in a red curry type sauce which is different than the typical garlic and butter you usually get. Definitely a change of pace but delicious. We made reservations for Valentine's evening dinner and we were seated right away. We did sit at a small table close to the entrance, so if you'd like a more romantic feel, perhaps request a table in the back. The service was just ok, but the food was much better. They have so much wine for sale! So many options. They also sell bourbon if that's your flavor. The atmosphere was really nice and made for a peaceful setting. I ordered the Cuban and it was very tasty. I'll definitely order that meal again. It's pricey, but for a special date night or a treat to yourself, it's worth paying them a visit. read more

I've been coming to this location for quite sometime as in many many times over 5 years but not recently thrilled with the services of the service on the patio. Arrived before 800 and the waitress left us at end of her shift with another waitress without any introduction. Literally abandoned our table? The other waitress was attending to a large party next to us. We had good food , sliders, tots, duck tacos, wedge salad and ordered a fantastic bottle of wine. Wine didn't disappoint! The food and wine remain consistently good other than lacking silverware or plates to eat it? I'm frustrated and disappointed as this was a fave spot. I mentioned this to the new waitress when at 9 pm brought us a check to rush us out and clear our plates including my wine glass that had a couple of sips left in it and told her that we frequently come here and she said sorry and hope they do better next time. I was hoping for some kind of appreciation and a little time and care while she made time to take pics for the other party. I needed a nice night out and it would've taken very little for her to offer some little token, a smile, eye contact, a small free item or gift card to try them again? etc. The ambiance is nice on the patio and that's why I wanted to be outside this night and my heart is unhappy to find out that one of my favorite spots has its flaws. Visited here a second time as I was very impressed the first time I came. I wanted to bring my husband for a date night. The menu has really great options to choose from. I went with the Ahi Tuna and my husband ordered a Cubano sandwich. We really liked that they had such different options that appealed to both of our tastes. The Ahi tuna had a wonderful umami flavor. It came with a side of sesame crisps that really elevated not only the look but also the experience. I thought it was more on the innovative side and it paired well. We ordered a bottle of their Whispering Vine pinot gris. The waitress was friendly in serving it and she also gave great descriptions of their wines when we were trying to choose. This establishment can be a dress up or down vibe. I loved the earthy warm tones with all of the wood and wine bottles etc. around. They do also have a shop attached where you can purchase wines. It's a pretty decent size. I thought it was interesting that they also have dining tables throughout the shop. I'm sure that makes for a great people watching experience. Michael T. recommended Whispering Vine when I was looking for Kosher for Passover Wine for a Night 6 Shabbat event in Carson City. I had called ahead and Brian helped me with some options that ended up in a modest order of a mixed half case of Fume Blanc, Chardonnay, and Cabernet. Gayle and I picked up the order on the way to a mid-day Reno aces game, of which I was surprised how far out on the opposite end of 4th Street it was. The pick up was really a non-event as the half case was ready and payment was smooth. In the meantime, I got a look at the place and was overwhelmed by the selection of wine that this place carries. And lots of near or below winery direct pricing too. We may come back and try out the restaurant, which features am impressively stocked bar and a casual elegance ambiance. We always enjoy our dinners at Whispering Vine. This is both a restaurant and a "liquor store." They have a great selection of wine, whiskey, etc. As you walk in, the building is separated into three rooms intermixed with liquor to purchase and tables to dine and wine. They have a large bar for your libation enjoyment. The ambiance is nice and cozy. The back main restaurant has dark wood trim and high--and low-top metal tables. The bar area has large windows and plenty of table and bar seating. The staff is always attentive and personable. The drinks are fantastic..., with the Spritz being a personal favorite. The food is fresh and tasty, and we like to share dishes for a fun variety. I would definitely recommend making a reservation, as it fills up quickly. On a side note, Whispering Vine makes AMAZING gift baskets. Many are available for quick purchase and are located throughout the restaurant. Whispering Vine is one of my favorite Reno staples. It fell off my radar for a while but in the last 6 months we've been visiting pretty frequently. I love the ever-changing wine tasting menus and the seasonal cocktails. I've never been disappointed by any drink from here or a tasting. The food is good but the menu is due for some new items, or to reconfigure some of the existing items with new flavors or accompaniments. The seating areas are so fun, from around the wine, in the bar, or even outside on the patio. Still not a fan of the large back room seating area... mostly because it lacks atmosphere compared to the rest of the restaurant and because sound echos really bad in that space. It makes conversation with dinner companions super challenging and unpleasant. The service is good and consistent, and quite a few staff members have worked there a long time. Also, if you're a fan of whiskey, make sure you ask for the whiskey bible to see the menu of one of the largest collections of whiskey in Reno! read more

They do have a limited menu, so I'd assume people come there for the alcohol and not so much the food. We met friends for dinner at 5 pm. It is mostly a wine bar and they have some excellent wines, but the place is so noisy. The noise level is a 10+, so it was difficult to have a conversation without shouting. The menu is a list of small plates and several larger offerings mixed in. Our server was accommodating when we asked for four menus instead of using the QR code to look at the menu on our phones. I guess that should've been our first clue that this was probably a place designed for a younger crowd. Our entire table ordered the burgers, which were pretty good, although on the small side for the price of $23 with a little cup of french fries. We also ordered an appetizer of the escargot, and when our burgers were delivered, we asked about it and eventually canceled our order because it was never delivered. We also didn't receive some of the ranch and ketchup with our burgers, but our server promptly brought them to us. Friday night is obviously a busy time for servers and the kitchen for accuracy in your order. I think maybe I'd try on a less busy night, so I'd be able to enjoy the company of my friends. We chose Whispering Vine for our New Year's Eve dinner and we were not disappointed. We love Whispering Vine and hadn't been here in a while so it was great to be able to get a reservation a few days before New Year's Eve. The parking lot and place was packed so it was definitely an advantage to schedule our reservation online. We also reserved a window table which was very nice because the view from the restaurant on 4th Street is breathtaking. We discussed what wines to have and as they did not have our favorite that evening we ordered a House Cabernet Sauvignon which was very good. We also enjoyed a martini and a vodka tonic. For our appetizer we tried the brussel sprout bacon flatbread which was absolutely delicious and I highly recommend it. There were three of us in the party and it was big enough for us to share. For dinner we enjoyed the wedge salad and the cioppino. Both were delicious and generous portions. For dessert we had the chocolate mousse which was rich and creamy. Our server was great and we were not rushed, even though it was New Year's Eve and there were people waiting for tables. We had made a 5pm reservation and we're taken right to our table in the back room. Service was pleasant and she came around just often enough to be helpful without intrusive. Between the three of us we shared the charcuterie board and the ahi poke. The meats and cheeses on the board were fresh and delicious. We ate up the little bit of baguette quickly and they happily provided (no cost) more to finish off the rest of the ingredients. We were very excited to try this place as it seems to always be busy when we drive by. We would come back for drinks and a side to share, but probably not have a dinner here again. Also it was listed as a tapas bar, to me that means sharing dishes, but their menu & dishes were that of a normal restaurant. The duck confit tacos were very juicy and had all the elements you want- string cheese and pickled onions. And the steak was creative with the delicious corn salad underneath. But both dishes were just missing something, they could be excellent but still need a bit more work, and maybe some salt. For dessert we had the Cointreau crème brûlée, my favorite dessert, but it was probably the most mid crème brûlée I've ever had sadly. Both glasses of wine we had were delicious- the whispering vine Chardonnay, and a red from Oregon. And we will be back for some drinks or to buy some to take home, but not for a full course again. The staff were very friendly and attentive, and the overall ambiance of the restaurant was amazing. Like I said we'll be back for drinks and a starter to have a good time. The restaurant itself is set up a bit odd, as you are essentially walking through a wine cellar with aisles of wine, but there are some spots that make it feel like a private section of the restaurant. The food running service was not very good this day.
